[Q] How smooth, compared to the S4 is the new S5 ? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear Friends,
I am thinking about upgrading from the S4 to the S5. I wanted to ask you guys what your experiences are when coming from the S4. Is the S5 really noticeably faster ? Where do you feel the difference? Would you recommend the upgrade ?
I am quite upset that the S5 is stuck on 2GB Ram - I expected an upgrade here i must say that I am a bit jealous of the Xperia Z2 because it has 3 GB. Does it make a difference in terms of Performance for everyday use?

In a lot of reviews it is said that 2GB or 3GB makes no difference, the phones do not even use more than 2GB RAM for some reason, though that might change in the future of course (with new Android versions).
I cannot answer the part about getting the S5 over the S4, as I came from an S3 and that difference is huge, but no comparison against the S4 of course!

Should i buy this phone?

hey all, im thinking of getting either a galaxy s3, the htc one x or the galaxy note.
now iv read that the htc one x has serious overheating issues so im not going to bother with that now. so that leaves me with either the galaxy s3 or the galaxy note.
some reports are saying the galaxy s3 has heat issues too but nothing certain.
question is, does the galaxy note have any issues that i should be aware off? if its prone to overheat or failures of other kinds then please let me know and i will not bother to purchase it.
thanks all.

Well there is the emmc issue, which basiccly means if your wipe/factory reset your devices while on a stock ICS rom it can brick your device, other than that no issues really
S3 has the best hardware, fastest CPU and probably the biggest life span since it's newest.
Note has big, amazing screen, great hardware and amazing battery life.
One X has terrible battery life, can't replace battery, no sd card and not that great performance for a quad-core device.
I just got my s3 and have to say speed wise it leaves the note well behind no lag and very smooth overall.
However.
It feels like a toy compared to the note the screen is not all that on the s3 and the note feels a better quality device.
Ive played with the s3 for a bit and now its just sittig there for work duties. the note deffo jas the edge in my books

I'd get the s3. Who knows if Samsung is going to update the note anymore beyond ics... also the s3 has a better processor, it also has a better camera and is certainly more future proof. I'm actually thinking of dumping my own note for the s3, buying two. One for me and one for my partner. I played with it in the store and boy does that device fly. It's just so fast and it seems like it's a lagless device. The note isn't a bad device. But we're talking about a 2011 device vs a 2012 device. Also the new flagship device. I really hope Samsung does keep updating the note because this device is awesome as it has an awesome screen and the pen which originally I found useless but then I started to use it and it's grown on me to the point where I'm not sure I'll be able to survive without it. Haha. How about that? Lol.

Not sent from an i phone....cos im not a fanny
really it depends if the s-pen matters to you or not.
if it doesn't, then just go for the latest and greatest device.

Yes I agree about the lag and smoothness; but only if we're talking about stock roms. Flash your note with a custom rom (CM9), and you won't find a difference plus you will have a wonderful big screen:good:
very tempted with the note, the s3 does seem like the logical choice since its newer has faster tech in it but the s3 forums seem to be complaining about overheating issues. im just not sure if i want to risk going with the s3 for those reasons. iv used the s3 in tescos and it is truly a fast device. im also considering getting a google nexus 7 so not sure if the galaxy note is ideal for me. although it does look amazing since the screen is so big.
main thing is that im worried about the reliability of these devices. if there were no reports of overheating of the galaxy s3 then that would have been my first choice.

[Q] Is a good idea to buy now a S4+?

Hi,
I am looking to renew my phone now. First I was thinking in the S4 considering the price is quite good now the S5 is out. But then I thought maybe is more wise to get a S4+ since I plan to use the phone for a couple of years. But it seems that there is less support for the i9506 than for the original 9505 in terms of ROMs. What should I choose?
I have also cosidered the S5 but the price is too high and the only plus I see from it is the camera + dust/water protection. It feels better an S4 with the black edition back cover than the S5...
I would really appreciate some opinions/tips. Thanks!!!
i think S5 doesn't bring anything new to the table besides little cpu power.
its bulkier larger heavier. for me it;s no,no. s4 is large as it is.
you can have I9506 which is snapdragon 800 edition of s4 which is almost the same as s5 processing power.
Yeah but when u get i9506 u r stuck with stock firmware there is currently minimal development for it, and there is no 4.4.2 kk for it yet.
I wish I had gone for the i9505

i did use my S1 for years - from 2.2 (and after rooting and costum ROMs) to 4.2 - its still very good usable ..
i would say nearly as fast as on stock 2.2 when i bought it
only web rendering went a bit slow on some pages
so as long as you are not a gamer or massive picture editor you wont need the extra cpu power for years (my guess)

Note 3 or Galaxy S5

Greetings everyone,
I m planning to buy a new phone. Can anyone please tell me which phone i shohld go for, note 3 or galaxy s5, and if possible, reason also, why should i go for some specific phone?
And one more thing, since many here would b already using galaxy s5, so please confirm me, is 2GB ram okay for multi tasking in S5 or is it less? One good thing that i find about note 3 is 3GB ram, tho its a very big phone in size.
But anyway please guide me, i m confused.
Thanks
Check out this wealth of info on precisely your exact dilemma: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Galaxy+s5+vs+note+3

my mom has a note 3 and i have a s5 duos
... tell you mate my battery is much much much better on s5 it lasts about 5 hours on screen time in 24 hours gaming music wifi all sort of this
while she gets 24% at the end of the day while she uses wifi only and calls
reasons for s5 :
-waterproof (for me its good so i can walk in rain so fine )
-size is handy u can use one hand for full use
-camera is better on s5
-screen resolution is better (not that better)
reasons for note 3 :
-bigger screen
-more internal storage 32 gigs instead of 16

Thank you my friend for ur reply. And i have noted ur points, but one important thing is RAM of both devices. Note 3 has 3gb and S5 has 2gb. Does this 1gb less in S5 cause any issue with multi taksing? I like specs of both phones, the only thing i dislike about s5 is less ram, and the only thing i dislike about note 3 is its big size.

I bought my S5 at the end of January so it's been around a month now. If by multitasking you mean opening a few programs (NOT GAMES) and expect them to still be loaded when you go back to them then yes, the S5's 2GB RAM is enough (I always have at least 300MB free). But if by multitasking you mean opening tens of programs and playing high end games at the same time, then I think even the Note 3's 3GB won't be enough for you
I too thought that 2GB is pure **** for a 2014 phone seeing as a variant of the S3 had 2GB, but I was wrong. Phone flies through whatever I throw at it

Jumping from the S5 over to the Note 4 worth it ?

like the title says, i am currently owning the Galaxy S5 , my question is ,
is the Note 4 worth getting when i have a s5 ? i would like to experience the Note phone as i never had one before and i like the spen thingie looks cool.
did anyone here had a s5 and jumped to the Note 4 ?
i dont really want to get the S6 nor the Note 5 mainly due to no Removable back for battery swapping and the use of msd.
yesterday i had sell my s5 for a note 4! it is really better for performance battery camera everything! for me is it a good option!!!

awesome thanks, but how much extra did you pay on top of it ? i think if i sell my s5 in the city here i would barely get 200$ for trade in and would need to pay about 250$ for getting the note 4.
my biggest question is the screen bro,
how is the screen in your eyes??? i saw the note 4 screen from a friend and i didnt like it like MY eyes hurt from looking at it , as it is a QHD display will you get used to it ?? its sooo sharp ,
thanks for the feedback
I sold together with the gear neo 2 so I did not pay anything. an affair!
the screen is much larger of s5, MUCH! and everything is very clear ..sharp! the best display for me. the brightness is very high, to not have problems I keep it to less than half !! if you can buy it!
the memory is 32 gb ..i have 32 micro sd therefore at the top with removably battery!

nice , i am thinking of getting the 910F variant so i can have CM installed on it
thanks for the feedback, so in your opinion it is defintely worth it and it is much better than the s5 in everything ?:fingers-crossed:
I've had s5 for a year and I think it is much better. pictures at night for example are really the best.It is reactive with the TouchWiz !!! good buy!
ps i have 910F european version!
I didn't have an S5 but I did upgrade from a Note 3 to the Note 4.
In my opinion the Note 4 is a fantastic phone- the camera is superb and the screen is face-meltingly awesome.
However, just it can be laggy at times- I'm pretty sure it's a common issue amongst Note 4 users (I have lag and I'm running SimplRom- which in my experience gives the smallest amount of lag in comparison to other custom ROMs I've tried).
The battery life is pretty good too.
Personally I'd make the upgrade but just be warned- there is a fair amount of lag.
Perhaps have a look at review videos etc on YouTube? There's bound to be a comparison video somewhere.
Good luck!

yep i do look at many videos thanks for the feedback !
and i think you should try CyanogenMod if you own a QualComm Note, the n910f < CM will give you zero lags bro , TW lag is in every Samsung phone XD

Hmm, difference in performance from your S5 to a SD Note 4 will be very minor. Specially because the display has a higher resolution.
Quite frankly, official 5.1.1 by Sammy is looking glorious. Phone is so ridiculously fast that I find myself playing of opening and closing apps.
I used CM variants at my S3 for 2~3 years straight, but apart from the cleaner look I honestly don't miss anything about it.
If you're dead set on using CM then the 910F is going to achieve daily driver level much sooner, but the 910C is a better device.

i see.. well i like CM alot, i had the Exynos S5 900h and i swapped it with a QualComm 900f, i really dont want to do that again, since the 910c is a Exynos based model, i think there isnt much of a difference personally.. cause i know this from owning the exynos/qualcomm based s5's.
how much do you like the Note 4 ? is it a very fun phone , like more fun than the smaller displays e.g s3/s4/s5 etc. the ones ranging from 4.7'' - 5'' etc. ?
oh and one more thing, how long will it take me to get used to the sharpness of the n4 screen ? the qhd is the thing that hurts my eyes, when i looked at the one from my relative his n4 hurt my eyes, it is non fake , he has the 910h < exynos one.
will my eyes adapt to the huge sharp screen in a matter of days ?

s5 mini vs alpha vs ..

Hi
I'm trying to find a good sub-5" smartphone for ~$200. Looks like my options are s5 mini, galaxy alpha, a3 and sony z3c. I don't want another glass phone after having nexus 4 (way too fragile), which rules out a3 and z3c.
What are the opinions on s5 mini vs galaxy? As I understand galaxy is not water-proof, has smaller battery and no SD, anything else? What are the main problems of s5m?
Thanks!
What is the exact model of the other Samsung model? Even S5 mini has more than one variant... Do you need a Dual SIM device?
In any case there are sites that compare models, just search on internet "model1 vs model2" and you should get a few comparisons.

galaxy alpha on either exynos5 or snapdragon 801. g800f for the s5 mini as I need LTE. Dual SIM not needed.
All the sites provide just basic feature to feature comparisons, saw all of them. I'm more interested in real life experience like durability, real battery performance, buggyness etc
The Galaxy Alpha costs significantly more than an S5 mini from what I gather (100$ difference in some cases). If you're after performance the Alpha is an obvious choice. It's only downfall seems to be it's tiny battery. The S5 mini doesn't fare much better on the battery front but it's bigger and the device will consume less by comparison. The S5 mini will also evidently be much more rugged, plus it has as much gimmicks as it's flagship older brother(Good or bad). The Alpha on the other hand has a better camera, bigger screen, more RAM and appears to come in an LTE version despite what you claim. The choice of these two depends on how long you intend to keep the phone and how well you'll take care of it. The S5 mini will perform well enough (not perfectly) but can be more readily replaced if broken, whilst the Alpha will be much smoother, but won't survive the accidental dunk in the pool.
