[Q] Is a good idea to buy now a S4+? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am looking to renew my phone now. First I was thinking in the S4 considering the price is quite good now the S5 is out. But then I thought maybe is more wise to get a S4+ since I plan to use the phone for a couple of years. But it seems that there is less support for the i9506 than for the original 9505 in terms of ROMs. What should I choose?
I have also cosidered the S5 but the price is too high and the only plus I see from it is the camera + dust/water protection. It feels better an S4 with the black edition back cover than the S5...
I would really appreciate some opinions/tips. Thanks!!!

i think S5 doesn't bring anything new to the table besides little cpu power.
its bulkier larger heavier. for me it;s no,no. s4 is large as it is.
you can have I9506 which is snapdragon 800 edition of s4 which is almost the same as s5 processing power.

Yeah but when u get i9506 u r stuck with stock firmware there is currently minimal development for it, and there is no 4.4.2 kk for it yet.
I wish I had gone for the i9505

i did use my S1 for years - from 2.2 (and after rooting and costum ROMs) to 4.2 - its still very good usable ..
i would say nearly as fast as on stock 2.2 when i bought it
only web rendering went a bit slow on some pages
so as long as you are not a gamer or massive picture editor you wont need the extra cpu power for years (my guess)

Hi Everyone,
I've got an S4, very please with it, but I just saw this OPPO Find 5 phone, which looks similarly spec'd to the S4 (but significantly cheaper).
What do you guys think??

1. Older and slower CPU! Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5GHz vs Snapdragon 600 1.9GHz
2. LCD TFT Screen vs. Super AMOLED FulHD Screen
3. OPPO vs.Samsung (this one is actually important when you look for custom ROMs and MODs)
4. Android 4.1 vs. Android 4.2.2 (for now)
5. 2500mAH battery vs 2600mAH battery
You decide....
I love my Oppo Find 5. I love the design, love the complete steel chassis design. No mucking around with plastic or even aluminum. They went straight for steel.
Display is great. Speaker is great. Frankly there is very little negative about the phone.
But it is totally outgunned by S4 at this point. You won't notice much in day to day use now but S4 destroys it in benchmarks.
But Find 5 is special. I am never going to sell this phone just to show people 20 years down the line that someone made phone like this.
It can't compete with S4 or One in pure performance but it puts smile on my face every time I use it. $500 phone with so many things done right.
Totally unfair to put it u up against S4 to be honest.
It is a good phone. Probably better made than One in my book.
From my Galaxy S4, in your face.....
H2H he S4 beats it at everything but looks. On the other hand it's still a very capable phone and at €400 it has an impressive price point in Europe.
Depends how well they have optimised the software on that phone. The S4 Pro on the Nexus 4 literally at the moment offers a much smoother and faster experience than the S4 with an updated CPU.

Yes, #3 is very important - a manufacturer that has been constantly acting in an antagonistic manner towards the development community for the past year and a half, vs. a manufacturer that is trying VERY hard to make developers happy. http://www.oppoforums.com/threads/rom-4-2-2-official-cyanogenmod-10-1.1715/page-21#post-33126 - need I say more?
Thanks guys,
I'm put to ease a little bit now, was feeling a bit down that this phone might be as good lol!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy i9500 or i9505

Hi Guys,
I'm planning to buy S4 but have found quite diverse feedback, like the issues with heat up, lagging etc. I had to choose between HTC One & S4 but the image quality in daylight shots, SD Card & removable battery was what I prefer the most.
I would also love to know which one should I go for i.e. i9500 or i9505.
I'll be playing some casual games not the most graphic intense games and that too for about 30-40 min at a time, will be always on wifi ON, emailing, fb etc.
I would love to hear from S4 users who are using it from quite sometime.
Thanks
Been using i9500 for seven months. Perfectly happy with the device. Never had a problem with a single game. After 4.3 update it has become extremely smooth. No overheating. All stock.
Thanks for your reply. I would also love to know if there is any difference between the two in camera shots.

If you are going to have to choose between a variant of the S4, then why not go for the i9506 (if it's available in your area). It has advanced LTE, Snapdragon 800 (faster than the 600 on i9505 and Exynos on 19500) and also Adreno 330 GPU.
I also compared the battery life and performance with a friend running the i9505 and it lasted about 1 hour longer and looked a tiny bit faster in opening games. This is the latest model of the S4 and if it's available, you should definitely get it. Also it doesn't have the annoying knox warranty issue like the i9505, so rooting it would not be a problem (although rom development is a bit slow)

Unfortunately, i9506 isn't available in our area. I have to choose between i9500/i9505
i9500 uses Sony Exmor RS sensor compared to i9505's Sony Exmor R sensor.
so, i9500 takes better picture to i9505
Camera is better on the i9500 from what I've read so far. But yes, custom rom development is much less than that of 9505. If that doesn't matter to u much, then go for 9500 as it is a little better than its cousin in almost every respect.
So, i9500 will be a good choice to choose between the two.
Can we expect the overall performance including battery performance to improve once we have official KitKat for S4?
I9505 for development. Ability to flash Google Edition Roms and there are many custom TW roms and AOSP roms. It is better supported by the devs if development is important.

Yes, I would want the ability to flash & custom roms, but if Samsung makes KitKat available for i9500/i9505 at the same time than I'll go for the stock i9500 as we didn't have 3G coverage yet (talking about 4G is over the moon here).
How different are the camera performance on the two. I have seen quite a few shots & found that sometimes I would see i9500 doing good & the other times i9505
Also can we expect the camera performance to get better with new firmware or KitKat.
Both cameras are probably on par. The I9500 has a newer sensor inside it. Firmware updates bring camera firmware updates too. Both should be fine, but obviously your not going to get picture quality when you compare to a digital camera or DSLR.
Both are adequate in good lighting conditions and compare to the other handsets currently out there.

[Q] Note 3 or S4 if I plan on running custom roms

I know hardware wise the Note 3 is better. What I am interested in knowing is, probably hard to really say, what the outlook might be on custom firmware for the Note 3's. There seems to be a vast selection for the S4...
With either one I would run firmware that would void the warranty.

Judging by the custom ROM ratio in Note2 vs S3 I would say that if you are a flashaholic you are better with the S4; for everybody else the extra RAM, screen size, CPU power and eventually the stylus might make the Note 3 a more tempting choice.
If you'd like to run the latest Kitkat 4.4 right now and customize every single piece, the choice obviously would be S4. Otherwise Note3 is much better according to the incredible specs. The stylus and related apps are very useful and work pretty well together. The rom can be modified as well, such as removing stock apps, remapping hardware keys, and so on.
In my opinion, Note3 is way better than S4 on every aspect except the higher price. I chose Note3 over S4 and Sony Z1 one month ago. So far I am very satisfied.
Pen or no pen is the question to you, decide that and you get your answer. Both devices are great for me with N3 a bit better hardware wise but not too much than S4 except the pen.

[Q] How smooth, compared to the S4 is the new S5 ?

Dear Friends,
I am thinking about upgrading from the S4 to the S5. I wanted to ask you guys what your experiences are when coming from the S4. Is the S5 really noticeably faster ? Where do you feel the difference? Would you recommend the upgrade ?
I am quite upset that the S5 is stuck on 2GB Ram - I expected an upgrade here i must say that I am a bit jealous of the Xperia Z2 because it has 3 GB. Does it make a difference in terms of Performance for everyday use?

In a lot of reviews it is said that 2GB or 3GB makes no difference, the phones do not even use more than 2GB RAM for some reason, though that might change in the future of course (with new Android versions).
I cannot answer the part about getting the S5 over the S4, as I came from an S3 and that difference is huge, but no comparison against the S4 of course!

I had a S3 i747 and I was pretty satisfied with it, I had it with CM11 and just love it badly and think that an S4 upgrade will be unnecesary because I didn't see why the people get excited when it was first launched.
Recently I had the oportunity of hold a S4 in my hands and I see that is not larger than a S3 and I liked so much its design, the size of the LED button, its screen size and the quadcore procesosr improvement also was good so I decide to go for a S4. I bought a second hand i337m S4 for about US 300 after sold my i747 in about US 250 so it was a no thinking situation for me. I haven't noticed any annoying bug on stock rom, the camera app was pretty cool with plenty of effects and WatchOn app was great to control your TV. I'm a hardened CM fan so I can't wait to see it on my cellphone so I installed it and so far (I have CM for about 5 days now) the only bug I have see is that while the phone is charging, you can't power on the cellphone (you just have to disconnect it and power on, not a big deal), for TV control I use Peel Smart Remote App and it works just as good as Samsung's app
In conclusion: I would say that if you feel good with your S3 you have no particular need for buy a S4 (probably get the same experience with some improvements) but if you have the oportunity of upgrade at a good price, then go for it

Hi,
some users have problems with Kitkat and some don't.
In general custom roms are running better than the original system. My guess. I'm very satisfied with S4 developed custom roms
It is your choice. There aren't any big hardware changes except full HD screen and camera quality.

I had S3 and I have now S4 (i9500) with Kitkat update, S4 have 2 GB Memory (S3 only 1 GB) & it is more smooth than S3, S4 also doesn't lag as much as S3 do.
in general S4 is a nice update for your current S3, but if you want my advice try to get S5, the screen in S5 is way more accurate and better than S4 screen, the battery also is more powerful.
it depends on how much you are ready to pay $.
Hi i also upgraded from s3 to s4 last October, i would. Recommend You to upgrade to s4 as it is a really good and compact device with 1080p display and thin bezels, unlike the ugly s5 which isn't compact.
