Thanks to @zxz0O0

Looks good. Although why do you need to back up the DRM keys when we aren't touching the boot loader ?

Not a single file = no data loss.
I am now doing installation of apps that required root, i.e. what I missed without root

It says what you can do, not what you should do. (i.e. it's not required to backup DRM keys)

I wanted to install dualrecovery, downloaded the installer.zip and executed the .bat.
My phone boots, but not into recovery. It seems it didn't work.
What exactly do I have to do there?

Probably you need to download tr.apk separately and place it to files folder before using tool, just an idea.
and btw, I also installed separately adb drivers from latest flashtool, if its helps.

I try with windows.

Root Checker told me it would be root. But I think it wasn't.
Dualrecovery didn't work.
I started from the beginning. Used the Easy Root again and rooted it again. Installed Dualrecovery. Clicked on Vol+ after
rebooting and got into recovery. There I installed the zip (Update SuperSU) and everything works now.
Great thanks

[ROOT] Root Mate 7 with SuperSU

Hi guys, I found a new method to have a fully functional root with SuperSU instead of Kingroot.
1- Download Kingroot 4.5 from https://sites.google.com/site/androidxdacom/file/Kingroot_V4.5.0.722.apk?attredirects=0
2- Install app and root the phone with it
3- Install Super-Sume from Play store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersume), open it and click on the button with the white android: the app removes all Kingroot apps and installs SuperSU.
4- Reboot and enjoy!
If Kingroot app is still present after reboot, just uninstall it by Titanium Backup or another uninstaller; you can also uninstall Super-Sume after the work is done!
SOME ADVICES (carefully pasted and adapted from Super-Sume app description........)
- This is the process that you MUST follow in order for this to be successful !!!
- Once your device is rooted with Kingroot install Super-Sume, do not install it prior !!
- If you have TEMP root OR are on Kingroot PRIOR TO 4.5 you will need to unroot your device first, re-root with KingRoot 4.5 and then install Super-Sume AFTER you are rooted and run it.
- If you are on KingRoot 4.5 or higher you should be all set to just install it and run it at any time after root.

Supersu is well known by all apps that need root: for example if you have Kingroot and open Titanium Backup it says that you'll may have problems with Kingroot...this not happens with Supersu.
Supersume uninstalls all apps installed by Kingroot, even Purify. If you don't like Purify, but you desire to keep root by Kinguser, you can uninstall it manually!

Unroot for apply OTA

Hello,
I'm French sorry if my english is not perfect.
If a OTA arrives in my rooted Zenfone 2, I know I won't can apply it without root.
So I will need to unroot, and I think this is easy with the option in SuperSU app.
But I installed many apps like Xposed and modules which need the root.
So if I unroot, will them be deleted or just be unusable ?
And if I unroot, can I apply the OTA without make a bootloop, then apply a second time the root?
Thanks
Envoyé depuis mon Zenfone 2 ZE550ML
When an OTA comes just do this things:
1. remove xposed framework files using uninstaller.bat by connecting phone to pc
2. uninstall xposed installer.apk
3. unroot from supersu.apk
No need to uninstall xposed modules
4. now you are good to apply ota.
after successfull updation. u can again root, install xposed framework and installer
Thank you for your answer.
When I will reinstall Xposed, the modules will be install automatically or I must do that manually?
(or better they won't be uninstall? )

You have to completely remove all the mods before applying ota or else you might get a bootloop or brick .

I should be ok for mm update... I checked through stock apps... Maybe I didn't delete anything but I'll make sure I move those third party applications out of system and then unroot via supersu.. So we need to have all bloatware system apps, unroot and also flash the stock recovery before OTA.
What if we download the full firmware and dirty flash the zip file?
Or, if we're on TWRP, wipe (system, cache, data...) and then flash?

@muaaviya If I were you, I would follow lennyz guide then remove KINGROOT, you can probably/hopefully unroot/remove in the app, then flash SuperSU.zip in recovery to root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
It may not remove it completely, haven't tried kingroot. In the future only use one-click apps as the last option, if at all. Not the safest way to root, IMO.

Help us to get Marshmallow beta - How to do a backup if you are a beta tester.

So, the general thread about the beta is a real mess, so here's one who will talks ONLY about the backup.
Only the people who have been selected as beta tester are supposed to reply in this thread, other don't have anything to do here!
Here's how to backup the firmware for us:
istux said:
Ok guys,
I managed to get recovery and root on this beta
Now it's late here, so if someone else want to dump through a TWRP backup, here is how:
1) Unlock the bootloader
2) Flash the last TWRP via fastboot
-here is the recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3313889
3) Enter recovery -many thanks to @shoey63-
- Power off the phone
- Restart holding power button and volume down
- Release power button when you feel the single vibration whilst still holding power down
- Phone should enter recovery
4) Make a backup of system+boot and share it.

If you haven't already installed the beta BUT have been selected, do a backup of your TA partition: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
If you have already installed the beta, you can still backup your TA partition but you will have to flash an old Lollipop ftf first, root your device and then backup the TA.
Once done you can unroot and wait Marshmallow OTA who will come back
If something isn't clear or if you need help for any parts, just ask
Soooo, I wrote a nice tutorial...

But it works, I just backed up the boot and system

Hey guys, I have a problem. My IMEI nullified after I flashed a Marshmallow custom rom. I followed this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/help/config-factory-partition-backup-t3316469 . My IMEI is back. After, I updated my zenfone 5 via FOTA, and from the last kitkat firmware I updated to Lollipop. IMEI is gone. After, I followed again the tutorial, and restore my lollipop backup from twrp. IMEI is gone again. I tried too restore mymmcblk0p3 backup from kitkat, but nothing changed. What I do please?
A BIG SORRY for my bad english.
EDIT: baseband null too
EXTRA INFO: My IMEI nullified after I restore a lollipop backup (when I quitting marshmallow)
Me too, after flash rom 6.0.
In LP5.0; Imei,baseband has lost

If anyone is facing this problem then Download Firmware from Asus site. Make sure it's same sku and variant, flash or sideload or install it from sd card method. After installation, power off and charge ur phone for 5-6 hours. Boot into phone let it Complete the boot process.. Check ur IMEI it would be fix.
