Free alternative to TiBu for freezing apps - Droid Ultra General

Found it here on XDA the other day! I didn't really want to pay $7 just for one function. Give it a try, seems to work well for me so far!

Not entirely, some apps can't be disabled. A lot of system apps don't allow disabling and you need need a separate app with root access to freeze them.
Just wanted to share this with others who might have the same opinion about paying for TiBu pro just to get the "Freeze/Defrost apps" option.

If said app has option to disable in settings menu its basically the same. If said app does not allow disable through settings(most system apps do not allow this) then you must use TiBu pro or some other form of that to completely disable or "freeze" it.

Nothing really, carriers just don't want you disabling bloat apps that generate revenue so that option isn't given in the settings menu for most of them. A lot can be disabled through the settings menu but for those that can't be you need an app that can do that same function the OEM doesn't allow by default.

To the extent the app allows disabling through settings, yes, because if the app does not allow disabling by default technically its not the same effect. You need to either rename that app in /system with a .bak extension(as far as I remember that's how its done) or use a separate app to freeze(disable) it.

From what I can see the only difference is a disabled app is shown in Settings-Apps-Disabled, whereas when you "freeze" it, its as if you uninstalled it from the system.

Well if you take OTA while app is either frozen or disabled it works no problem. If you uninstall it it will fail.
Also uninstalling a system app will free up space in ram. Suggesting that is gone. Freezing/disabling will not.
Explain how these are the same.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. When I said "as if it was uninstalled from the system" I only meant that if you browsed the apps in the settings menu said app would not exist anywhere in that menu, but the actual file would still be in /system/app or /system/priv-app, that is why OTAs are not an issue as the system verification sees the files are still there.
"Freezing" will not free up any user storage space since most apps you freeze reside in /system which doesn't count as user space. but it will certainly free up RAM as the frozen application is not allowed to run.

This I think is wrong. Every third party system app that I know of can be disabled. All of the Amazon apps can be disabled. Ingress can be disabled. IMDB can be disabled. The evil Caller Name ID can be disabled, as can NFL Mobile. VZ Navigator, I think even Gmail and Google calendar - all can be disabled. I am pretty sure that the only system apps that can't be disabled are critical apps that aren't third party bloatware. Maybe there is one or two, but surely most of them can be disabled.

The joys of Lucky Patcher

No, this is not associated with piracy as are most cases with this app. After many weeks of extensive testing I've learned that Lucky Patcher can drastically increase the battery life of Android devices. There are a lot of apps out there that stop ads in applications but that doesn't stop the application from waking up your device and sending a request for the ad. I would barely make 8 hours of battery life with that happening and after using Lucky Patcher to remove Google ads from apps that had them my battery life has tripled. Test it for yourselves.

So wouldn't that make things like Ad Free and ROM Toolbox illegal since they almost do the same thing when it comes to blocking ads? Those apps stop you from receiving ads while lucky patcher stops the apps from sending a request for them. Both stop the ads while lucky patcher stops the apps from sending a request for them which will increase your battery life. A while back I read something on MSN news about how these ads diminish battery life and this is just a way to stop that. Either way, lucky patcher AND apps like ROM Toolbox and Ad Free would technically be illegal because they both stop the ads. It all depends on how you use them. That's like saying apps like Root Explorer are illegal because you can copy data you've downloaded online for a paid app and use it for free when most of us use it in different ways.

So you're saying Ad Free and ROM Toolbox are illegal? There's no difference between between not sending a request for an ad and not receiving an ad. Either way, the ad is not being shown and the people who made the apps are not getting paid. So just about every ROM out there is illegal because it contains ROM Toolbox?

I think the major issue is "cracking other apps". AdFree simply blocks ad urls (via HOSTS), it does not block the application from requesting the ad from the internet. The app in question modifies other program code to remove the ad functionality, etc - this is the licensing issue....
Edit: I don't use ROM Toolbox, but its description does say that it blocks ads by IP as well, same as AdFree. Blocking Internet traffic in/out is one thing, modifying other licensed code for this app's reason is quite another. While I understand the battery life issue and it does make sense, you agree to the ads when you install the (quite often Free) apps.....
Edit2: Don't get me wrong, if you use it and it works, use it - it is your phone. This is simply the reason you won't find it on the Play Store!
god damn it... read carefuly, it's just examples... using ROM Toolbox isn't illegal to use, but you have to get rooted phone. If you have rooted phon you have violated the guarantee

LOL and this too :good:
That's the problem in itself. Yes. Free apps. They get paid for the advertising. So modifying the app or just blocking it via host files does the same thing. Stops the ads. Meaning that both are technically illegal.

No problems, always happy to help. I tend to go back through once a month to remove the crap from there, stops it getting too ridiculous. I try out so many apps that it would be a pointless list otherwise. That is interesting information, but I don't believe that article specifies what is safe to remove (just what the consider removing). Also, the ATT framework may not behave exactly as the VZW might, which is my specific question.
Edit: consider using titanium backup and freeze as an alternative to uninstalling entirely. Should give you the option to restore if needed.

Correct if you want to uninstall them, but you can "disable" bloat from the applications section in the settings to free up memory and to cut down on unnecessary processes without needing root.
I'm not sure how the US carriers will handle this issue, but all of my carrier-specific apps were uninstallable on my Korean Note 4. Samsung and Google services have been hit-or-miss. But then again, there was specific legislation passed here on this very subject last year.

Like that stupid flip board app.
Sprint has been pretty good about being able to straight uninstall all those useless programs they load once you activate. The rest has to be root uninstalled to remove. I've been using Samsung devices for awhile and most have to be rooted to remove their extra features.
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Can't you just disable them? They'll still take up space but they won't run.
uninstalling some of the applications, especially from google or samsung could break other things seemingly unrelated, so much better way is to freeze them, but you need root. greenify has some option to stop apps from starting on boot up, not 100% sure, but I think it works even without root.
greenify is limited without root, but it is a start.
Does anyone know when the ATT note 3 was able to root?

battery Life on H872

For a while i was getting bad battery life due to using a LG app called LG Aura. Now that it's gone I've been seeing great battery life on my TMO G6 (H872).

What seems to be the issue? I'm assuming you have both apps installed?
Then you'll want to force close both. Then, you want to go to Settings - Fingerprints & Security - Phone Administrators and then check make sure LG Service is active.
Then force close everything (recents clear all) and run Package disabler.. It should work now. Simply check the box to the right of the app you'd like to disable. If you press the app name it will also show you more info about the app and give you the ability to uninstall it there.
I understand the Package Disabler app has been removed from the Play Store but you seem to have it.
I'll also upload a copy of both in the next post in case someone else would like to try them as well..

Thanks that worked now if you could provide a list of your disabled apps lol and anything else that would help with battery usage
I can't reupload the apks. But I did it in a thread on the V30 forum.
Check it out here:

Here's whats disabled on my V30.
I use Google Apps over LG apps. Like Calendar, Keyboard, Gmail, etc..

Have you encountered this problem? I haven't been able to get this to run because LG service throws me this error.

Nope. Someone in the thread i linked above had mentioned that error. They seemed to remedy this issue with a restart.
Edit: Apparently it was you....

Okay @Polycarbonate I tried on my other v30. Yes I had the pop-up if i tried running the service app. But if you simply activate it in settings - fingerprints and security - phone administrators it works fine.

Lol yeah, it just came back to me after enabling it on phone administrador, it just won't work, I forgot this is the same thread, this app just won't work for my T-mo LG G6, I'll call it quits then since it just keeps coming back.
Yeah i guess it doesn't work.. works on my V30 & G6 that installed from the Play Store....

That's probably why it shows the error, anyways thanks for the app, I'll just disable stuff manually.

Yeah it doesn't work for me either. I keep getting the same error you are getting. And the things I tried to disabled doesn't stick.

Well, it seems the app is back in the PlayStore... However I already paid and this isn't showing that I paid.
But only $1.49 for it. I'd say do it and make sure you keep a backup with LG Backup..
