Today I was working the shift from hell at CiCi's Pizza (8am-11pm) and two customers came in with Hero's. BOTH had the same software. I asked the first guy when he received the update and he said he got his yesterday. The second guy said he received it a couple days ago. I asked to see the firmware version in settings and they both said the same thing. 2.1. They both had the exact same rosie which was a unique looking espresso rosie and the weather animation in the homescreen with mutli touch.
I'm not trying to start controversy but two people with the EXACT same firmware and rosie's? If they were rooted and pulling my leg, what are the chances that they both had the same ROM and the same unique rosie?
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Where's 2.1?

Tell me about it... I'm 19 years old with 18 credit hours of school a week on top of 35 hours of ****ty pizza work...

Let me make it known that both customers didn't seem very bright so rooted phones did NOT seem to be an answer to this dilemma.
If they were together the chances that they had the same custom set up is probably more likely then a secret update.......
They weren't together... The first guy came in for lunch rush and the second for dinner rush...
Hmmmm, they could have both been rooted and using Zen's mytouch slide port..
You say they aren't too bright, but it's not too hard to root and flash a phone if you do a little reading. And the Sprint update will be using the Rosie that is in Damage's rom, so that is my guess.. That is still pretty crazy though

ok not trying to add more crap to this thread but i got my hero on march 23rd and after staring at the root guides for like a week i decided to root ,,well on saturday my friend who has a hero tried to go back to stock and got the error 110....and me like a smart ass gave it a try (ruu stock)when i got to 99% well gues wath error 110,,
phone wouldnt boot up only black screen.decide to take it back to best buy still on 30 days long story short took it to besbuy on sunday this sunday
(i asked the 2 reps are guys having alot of issues with this phone playing dumm..)they both reached into their pocket pulled out their hero and said no...
and proceeded to ask them about the 2.1 release date ..one of them said we already have right(told the other rep) the other guy nodded and with a weird look(wtf r u saying)and said no maybe until mid may,,,
i dont know maybe they where rooted or something just sharing my story...

Riveting tale chap!
I have a feeling we will be hearing this A LOT, and I mean A LOT come FRIDAY JUNE 4th. So I though I would facilitate the excitement into one thread... For us brave ones who had to patiently wait till JUNE 4th. Ill most likely be posting where I got my EVO, time I got my EVO, length of time in line and my overall first impressions of this majestic beast!

First of all I woke up with a hangover.....
as tired as I was I still woke up and drove to my local RS and I was the first one there. Eventually 28 other people showed up at 6:30 or so... I got my EVO first thing I did was throw a Zagg on it. My # has not yet ported so I havent even turned on the phone!!!!! I hate you AT&t!!!!!

Some of us werent as lucky as you, and had to wait till Sprint released these OFFICIALLY to the general public... aka "us" Its more for the people who are having to suffer these last 15 hours of horrible and unbearable wait to get our stuby fingers on this... there's a lot of excitment waiting to pop!

As early as this month doesn't sound too concrete or confirmed to me. They haven't even pushed the 2.1 update with gps fix. I hope I'm wrong though.
As far as I know, this is coming from a Samsung tech employee in Finland, and is only stated for the international Galaxy S. I wouldn't expect this by the end of the month for our US Vibrant.

I called T today to find out about the GPS fix that was leaked to come out today. I was transferred to T's Android Rep who stated that the GPS Fix is to be included in 2.2 and that he did not have a time for the release. He could not even speculate on the time frame for a release but that it was in the works and coming soon. I would not expect the update till late November but before Christmas. It could be pushed back even farther if there is any chance of there being some issues with the update to 2.2 The last thing Sam and T want is bad PR it would be a loss of sales and loss of customers. I believe they are going to test the crap out of the 2.2 update which will be nice to have a great stock rom.

Stop with your speculation. If Samsung waited till November, no one in these forums would still have a Vibrant. Every other phone to come out in the last few months has been updated to froyo (Droid X will be out soon, but has seen many leaked versions). Waiting till November would be a deathwish for Samsung. By then, Gingerbread might be out then the whole process would start over again.

you know what. im kinda tired of seeing these threads. I think Sammy And Tmo are gonna take there sweet ass time with this. Seeing as they alreay have your money from when you bought the phone ($400 full price, $200 New 2 yrs contract, or a penny if you got on the amazon ****) they dont really have to care. They provided a phone that worked. that was that. they dont have to update it. if they wanted to they could be like yeaaaaa **** it. and there is nothing we could do but cry and build our own roms for it.
Tmo has us real good tho. they get you for the monthly and if you ditch them before 2 yrs is up hey guess what your shelling out another 200 bucks for nuking the contract LOL. its all about money. theres rumours left and right about when its gonna get 2.2 - if it does it does if it dont it dont. not much we can do

The one thing WE CAN DO: sell our pieces o' **** for something else, i.e. a nexus one, iphone 4, droid x, etc. etc.

I almost agree with you here, aside from the fact they did NOT give us a working phone. Try your GPS on your stock Vibrant and come back and tell me it works

That's why I got no contract. I'll just mosey over to verizon or sprint or one of the many other carries with a Galaxy S phone once they come out with Froyo.

I went through all the Vibrant Facebook Pages and found the one mentioning Froyo and there is no way in hell that is a Samsung managed page.
a) They bag on the Captivate - Samsung wouldn't do that
b) July 14th - Said "I just played with one" - Why would Samsung say that?
c) "Their review" links to http://thetechninja.wordpress.com/ - Why would Samsung do a review of their own phone?
So, rumor squashed, there is absolutely no basis for believing anything posted to that page. The OP here should not have said its the official Vibrant page when it clearly isnt.

What's the point of waiting just for the next day to release the ota for n1? There's no real gain in that for google.

How about they sell more Nexus S devices because geeks can't wait to get their hands on Gingerbread so they rush out to buy the phone anyways? Surely we all know it's coming to the Nexus S but look at the thread title, people are going nuts for Gingerbread as it is! LOL
Surely they could just do what Apple does and release the update the day before for the older phones but i guess we'll see

There is a good reason to wait.
Now when the SDK is out all the developers can test their apps against the Gingerbread and fix all the bugs and incompatibilities.
What do you think would happen, if goog realeases their 2.3 update and some popular apps don't work anymore? This forum would literally explode with screams like "fix this immediately or else", "I hate google", "gingerbread killed my cat" and so on. Why google would do that to themselves?

I'm sure he's doing both just in case one yields different results. Supposedly I've heard that the Settings Updater doesn't always check, but caches the answer for an allotted time. Doing a "checkin" actually goes out and pings google (or wherever) and comes back with a result after a few seconds. The Settings app just flat out tells you no.

No there isn't. That section doesn't 'check' for updates, it tells you the result of the last system check for updates, which is done automatically, or forced through the dialer.
Going to that part of the settings does not force a check.

The point would be so that the Nexus S can be marketed as the first phone with Gingerbread.
Yeah they will probably either delay it to just after Dec 16th or release it some time next week. I'm betting on just after though.

True, but its not like they would lose any buyers anyway.
The N1 is only sold as a dev phone. And how many ppl have a N1? compared to SGS or others...
Also, like when they released froyo...many apps didnt work with 2.2 and had to be updated.
There are alot of devs out there with a N1 as a devphone. Giving out 2.3 before the NS release thus giving time for the devs to update their apps before launch would give android better publicity. And happier customers
I dont know if this is an issue with 2.3 though...

It still is May.
As this is finally stated in a real honest-to-god press release from Samsung (and not on the Facebook page of the assistant receptionist for a Samsung retailing in Kazakhstan), I think this time the date can be believed...however, isn't it ALREADY mid-May? So it is rolling out any day now?
Also, looking at the list of phones Sammy is updating I think I understand better why they pulled the mid April update. Beyond needing a little more baking, they also wanted to roll out the Gingerbread update to all their relevant devices all at the same time to reap the PR noise (such as the Engadget article). Consider the mid April release a limited test run in a couple markets, I guess.
This press release are good news for many, I am sure. Me, I will continue rocking the CM7 2.3.4 goodness, thank you very much.
For the last week have been getting the message to upgrade my firmware to PDA:JS8 / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JS5 (O2I) but keeps on failing, so hopefully it will be sorted this week...;. but BTY is the 16th not the middle of the month?
But it rolled out several days, almost weeks ago? :s

It'll just be deployed in other countries as well. Scandinavia has always been the first to get updates.
