It still is May.

As this is finally stated in a real honest-to-god press release from Samsung (and not on the Facebook page of the assistant receptionist for a Samsung retailing in Kazakhstan), I think this time the date can be believed...however, isn't it ALREADY mid-May? So it is rolling out any day now?
Also, looking at the list of phones Sammy is updating I think I understand better why they pulled the mid April update. Beyond needing a little more baking, they also wanted to roll out the Gingerbread update to all their relevant devices all at the same time to reap the PR noise (such as the Engadget article). Consider the mid April release a limited test run in a couple markets, I guess.
This press release are good news for many, I am sure. Me, I will continue rocking the CM7 2.3.4 goodness, thank you very much.

For the last week have been getting the message to upgrade my firmware to PDA:JS8 / PHONE:JPY / CSC:JS5 (O2I) but keeps on failing, so hopefully it will be sorted this week...;. but BTY is the 16th not the middle of the month?

But it rolled out several days, almost weeks ago? :s
Ah, maybe for XEU and others? Since XEE and NEE got JVH already.

Let's hope its soon xeu

The Nordics got it two weeks ago now, with no apparent problems. Why are we still waiting for a UK rollout?

The article says "after encountering a little hitch with its mid-April Gingerbread delivery"
Maybe the hitch was the UK not being able to get it

Is JVH Beta then?

Well no, if it's still on Kies for XEE and NEE.
It'll just be deployed in other countries as well. Scandinavia has always been the first to get updates.

Samsung shd giv a schedule on which date which countries will get the update . . .

Is it possible they meant to state "Mid June"? It seems very odd to announce a release past the middle of the month for the middle of the same month?!
Just a thought.

Guess what - its June tomorrow

...and what does that mean?
Sod all, I imagine
And it doesn't mean what we all wants... 2.1... it simply means that HTC will delay the release further and further... and ultimatley not at all...
Well Sprint and Verizon did get them...........
Well, at the end of the day I won't use the official HTC 2.1 ROM.
I'm very happy with Cronos Droid which gives excellent speed as well as root access, the latter never available with stock ROMs.
Some of the unofficial 2.1 ROMs with newer kernels are getting so good now that for those who root it really matters not. For me SenseHero is spectacular.
So, its June.
Where do we download the official 2.1 from then?
There will be no update to Eclair in June.
HTC will postpone the second OTA update to July, then to August etc.
We've been ****ed with and have to accept it.
HTC has stopped supporting GSM Hero. That is the bitter truth.

+1 for this, we're ****ed up with a support-****y company... but whatever, does any1 have the link with the official (and i mean the real official) News about the Hero which should get the 2.1 Android Update?
Regards
I don't know. I had the info from the E-mail support which, clearly, lied to me.
They said "early June" so let's wait for a few days...
Why not sign the 'Eclair Update Petition' on the Market? or join in the #wheresourheroupdate on Twitter!

I agree with bluesax, there is a lot of negativity to HTC's support - whilst I agree it is crap, we have given them 22hrs (using the international date line...) so far to provide from the start of June. Yes okay, they have messed us around, but it is too soon to start saying that they haven't given it to us yet, so we are obviously being fobbed off.
I trust (don't know why...) that they will give us the update, and hope they will releases patches as time goes on.
But that's just me.....

This is for the galaxy s.... IN SPAIN. This does not apply to people with the vibrant. I would assume the U.S. is more of a priority to Samsung, therefore froyo should be out before then.

Well, Samsung is a Korean company first off. Second of all, carriers don't lock/change their handsets like the US does, so it gets much easier to update when you take the carrier out of the equation. This is why Europe/Asia get new phones and the updates for those phones before the US.
That is just how it is.

And simply by the first launch day, US version of the Galaxy S is much later than the regular i9000, so it is not hard to guess the U.S. variants would get it later than the international version.
Holy crap will everyone just shut up about Froyo. Enjoy the damn phone that you have. Its not like our phones are piles of crap. People are making Froyo out to be some mythical unicorn update. But I'm sure once we get Froyo the same people will be complaining that we don't have Gingerbread yet because the Nexus 1 is getting it in December.

Damn straight! I wish I were mod, then I could lock each and every thread about Froyo.
Lol whats funny is that engadget also reported that the UK Offical Samsung Mobile twitter page reported that
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/t-mobile-says-samsung-gps-fix-coming-in-september/
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/samsung-testing-gps-fix-for-galaxy-s-phones/
See two pieces of proof something is coming in September, we still have 10 days so lets see what happens.
So We do have like 3 Dates if you want to call it that.
One is September 23, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is supposibly for the International Galaxy S. Maybe it'll be compatible with all. Who Knows?
Two is September 29, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is for Galaxy S, IDK if all phones or Just International. IDK. I got this date from T-Mobile TODAY. I Called acted like i didnt know Anything about Android and was asking questions about The Samsung Vibrant. The guy said it comes with Android 2.1 but it'll get Android 2.2 soon. I asked if he knew a date, he said hes not for sure but he Read on a Forum somewhere about September 29, 2010. We'll See.
Three is Late October 2010. Which was told TODAY by Samsung Spain and posted on Engadget. So we have 10 days til September is over we'll see what happens. Thats all i know for now.
I'm Really eager like the rest of you to find out when our phones will get 2.2. Not only for Speed Improvement but for GPS Fixes (if implemented), 3 button hardware fix (if implemented) and of course Flash 10, Chome to Phone, the New G-Mail, Google Voice, and Tethering etc.
As eager as I am to get Froyo, I'd rather wait a little longer and let Samsung do it right than have them push something that's been rushed and running like crap. Based on the recent leaks I've seen, the most current Froyo builds have been buggy and not optimized at all.
I think late October/early November is my limit though. If they push it back further, I'm not supporting Samsung anymore. I'll switch to the G2. I can trust HTC will for sure push Gingerbread over to that phone. Who knows what Samsung will do with the Galaxy S then.
Fanboys need to stfu. You do realize many of us have buggy devices, and the fixes are being held up for froyo, right?
Dom't be idiots. Use your brains. The OS is a small issue right now. We want oir phones to work as advertised.
Yes, these buggy devices ARE complete and utter crap.

T-Mobile's Official News of OTA

Posted in their forums.

Samsung Vibrant OTA Update Starting 10/7/10.
Posted 10-07-2010 08:03 AM
We are pleased to share that starting October 7, T-Mobile and Samsung will begin to send an over-the-air (OTA) update to Samsung Vibrant customers, which will provide a number of benefits and improvements, including optimized GPS performance and new access to the Samsung Media Hub, which offers a robust collection of movie titles and TV programming for purchase or rental.
The update will be sent to customers in staggered waves and we anticipate all customers will receive it by the end of October. Customers will be notified of the OTA via the Android Operating Notification Bar located at the top of the Vibrant phone screen.
..

Was thinking the same, plus they seem to be miles away from a good fw release, since day one the major issues have been the AOS bug, the pink spot camera, the gradients, all still present in KG3, which even added more bugs like the fc while playing flash content...

Keep in mind the tweet's from samfirmware, not Samsung. Since May, he/they have posted about five "X is coming by X" messages and they've been wrong all five times. With phone's already shipping with 2.3.4 in some parts of the world I'd say we'll start seeing updates soon. Maybe I should tweet that - it would be as accurate a guess as samfirmware's.

Why should they? They've committed to nothing at the time we bought the phone and publicizing dates and then potentially not hitting them would just piss people off. Besides, this way, it's kind of like Christmas.
Now August, it was July first. Ehh..
Can't wait !!!
I was talking with Samsung today and I asked "so we can expect the 2.3.4 in next 30 days for sgs2" and Sammy guys told me it will be before but they dont know exactly when still no information... They dont know the date ...
Also they said that they are planning to release Ginger for SGS next month (or this for some countries dunno) and 2.3.4 version in september - October
which firmware KIES need detect to make the 2.3.4 available?
2.3.3 with 2.3.3 kernel and 2.3.3 CSC??
i am interested in the answer to that last post also.
i updated my s2 to KE7 through odin as KIES wasnt offering it to vodafone handsets quick enough. will kies even offer it to me when it is available?

So SamFirmware stated via twitter that there will be no releases for now =/

I think only Poland in Europe has it (can't remember which) so far.
I like (the unofficial) KG6, not in any rush for official release, except for my country of residence's language keyboard.

Since May, they've been correct with dates or information about 10% of the time. They're also intentionally cryptic so you have no idea whether they're speaking for themselves or implying that they're speaking for Samsung itself.
They (Samfirmware) are a good source of info (sometimes) but only SAMSUNG know what SAMSUNG is doing not SAMYFAMYFIRMWARE
