[Q] Equalizers that work on GS4 / Viper4Android - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I'm new here, and first off I'd like to state a few things, just so we're clear:
MusicFX / Default Equalizer doesn't work for me.
My S4 is rooted.
I don't want to reflash / can't upgrade / lose root
I've gone through all the necessary steps and backed up my phone with NANDroid backup and Titanium Backup, I don't want to have to re flash or update and lose my root, but all I really need is a working equalizer for my music.... since my headphones aren't giving 100%, I need a bass / volume boost... Now to the point, I downloaded Viper4Android sound mod and I'm just wondering if this'll brick my phone or not? Running 4.3 MK2 SW...
I'm doing a full backup just in case but can anyone please confirm that this works or not before I irreversibly damage or brick my phone? I just don't want to go through the agonizing hassle of reflashing my GS4 since it's so complicated, and at this point Kies won't work for me here so I'm bent out of luck if my phone gets bricked...
If not, can anyone list any good working equalizer / bass booster apps for the S4?
I'd be more than happy and I'd appreciate your help, guys.
Thanks! -Dan

Viper4androidFx is amazing...... It is the only audio mod you need, ever..... As long as you have made a nandroid backup there shouldn't be an issue...

yes Viper is amazing and it wont brick your phone! but it consumes more RAM. One more thing, did u tried the ADAPT sound feature of default music player? It gives real clear audio quality! Just try it before Viper u might like it.

[Q] Noob needing help updating and backing up

Hi all...sorry if this is very noob but hope someone can help me out...
i got my galaxy s4 for att and its been great so far...i did root it and got rid of all the junk stuff on the phone which was nice to do... but a little issue now..there is an OTA update and its trying to apply it by rebooting but it goes to my console screen i guess and i know even if it applies it it would get rid of root.... is there a way to apply this without having to reinstall all my emails (5 emails) and my apps and keep the root ability on it? I would love to get the feature to send apps to my SD thats the only reason i really want it.
again im sorry if this is very noobish to some of u but would like a nice guide if possible how to do it.
Thanks in advance
What device? Thats important, and DO NOT let it do the update. if you are rooted, you could freeze the samsung updater.
I would get off stock and flash a custom rom.

hehe I know you stated galaxy s4, but I needed to make sure, US version right?
Use my rom, mine is totally stock, with a few modifications, and FAST!
or you can go any TW rom.
here is mine..
[ROM] ViSiON-X v1.0|AROMA|4.2.2|MGA|TW|[08-03]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391142
then you will not have to worry about an update, until someone finds a patch for the update...

I use Infamous S4 as well, I love it. It's pretty stock feeling.
When it comes to the backing up part, I suggest Titanium Backup. Get the pro version and you can batch install all of your apps from a backup, otherwise you have to do it one by one. It also saves all app data and system data and accounts, so you can do a full wipe when installing an update or a new ROM (always a good idea,) then just let it completely restore the phone from a backup. You can use it to back-up everything, except for the home-screen layout (android limitation apparently.) Plus you can backup right to the phone if you have space so you don't have to wory about using the computer. I recomment getting a microSD card for 10 bucks at Staples and backing up to that. When you're restoring, make sure that you check what you're restoring. Most of the stuff in red are system apps that don't need to be restored (as newer or the same versions may already be installed from the update.)
For restoring root priviledges, CWM and TWRP custom rrecoveries have a tool for this.

Need some advice regarding my new S4

I bought my S4 in Korea. It is a SHV 300S LTE device. Octa core sold through SKT.
I would like to remove all the bloatware, maximize battery life, and use nova launcher with the click UI icons.
Should I root my device? If so why? What are the top 5 ROMs?
Also what is the best / easiest method for backing up my device? (apps, info, ect)
Also, is there an app or software to which I manage my music preferably similar to itunes and iphone? Would like for the phone to be able to automatically add new music to my device and keep it up to date.
Sorry for all the questions. Any and all advice will be much appreciated. Thanks
Idk if your variant has any roms but the best roms on i9500 are Omega, Wanam and Crash ROMs. Theres Cyanogenmod too but thats in alpha I think.
You can remove bloatware with Titanium Backup after root and you can backupw ith it too. And CWM backups are good too.

How can I find out my variant? All I am seeing is SHV-300S.
Also I have not updated to 4.3. Should I do that first or after a root?

Removing bloatware is possible only after rooting your phone.
If you want to backup your device after rooting, you can do it if you will flash custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)
For backup without the root you can try Helium app from PlayStore.
I don't know if there is any custom ROM for your variant of S4, i'm sure if there is, you will find it here on xda.
I also don't know any app to sync music automaticly, simply i never needed one.
Hope that helps a little bit.

Have you considered if it's a hardware issue? Intermittent issues can be hardware. It might explain why no matter the ROM you have this common audio cutout problem. I just had my phone warranty serviced because whenever I would record audio or audio and video upon playback I would get these weird audio artifacts like popping and static sounds. The tech told me they resoldered the audio pins to try and correct the problem. It is now fixed btw. (The same repair had them replace the proximity sensor too but it seems to me they actually replaced the entire main board b/c my board serial number is different. To my understanding the proximity sensor is a module and the audio chip is soldered onto the main board.) Would warranty service be an option for you? If not, there is a good tear down guide on iFixit.com and others on Youtube.
As for making a flashable zip I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1207467

[Q] Samsung galaxy S5 Plus SM G-901F Custom recovery mode + Audio booster

Hi,
I am trying to install a custom recovery mode for my S5 Plus G901F, but i can't find a good working one.
I've tried 2 custom ones but both didnt work or got installed, one got installed but softbricked my phone.
The recovery mode got ruined and didnt wanted to boot up anymore.
I can succesfully root my phone but i can't find a working recovery mode.
And i wan't to boost my audio(speaker&headphone).
Is there any mod of both thats suitable for this version of the S5.
Its a S5 from Vodafone NL.
Kind regards,

Hello,
Please search before posting, several identical questions here on xda.
- For recovery, only one "working" in china language and does not support aroma interface, for infos it's here post #21 and #23

for DL it's here

- For boost audio, google for bass boster (pro version has to be paid but GIYF), it's here
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.desaxedstudios.bassbooster&hl=fr_en
but there are others apps to do that. Bass booster permits you to amplify sound but also level sound. Try it

No, in posts #21 and #23, it's about the recovery.
No, you're totally right.
Moreover, this china recovery is ok for backup, restore and all wipes (all tested).
OK for flash zip without aroma interface (2 aroma zip failed, on zip without aroma passed).
Waiting for cwm or other "proper" recovery.
And DL link is for china recovery.
To unzip and flash with ODIN.

Hmm, Thanks ill try it at home but now i tested the program. That doesnt really boost my volume. Saw some volume booster setting so bought the pro version, but its kinda a waste of money
I've tried also manually adding the mixer.xml of the audio booster on this forum that normally should be used with recovery mode to install it.
But it worked but when i was called and picked up i couldnt hear the person.

Only thing that i need is an updated version of this tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729652
I hope the owner can edit V4(with headphone boost) for my G-901F.
The one that has been published does boost my audio on both speaker and headphone, but the problem is i can't hear any signal when i call somebody or when he/she picks up the phone when i used the tool.
Even if i restore it with the restore tool it still doesnt work, thats why i had to reinstall the stock firmware over and over .
It is such a great phone, and since im an audiophile i like loud music.

SoundAlive help?

I had an old Note 3 lying around and decided to root it. I had modified and flashed the hell out of my old Galaxy S2, it died last year though. I remembered the absolutely killer audio I had with Viper4Android on a modded version of KitKat.
Now I've got a rooted Note 3 running Lollipop, so I flashed the latest version of Viper and had issues, it didn't want to work - at all. I searched for solutions and it all pertained to Selinux, and since I'm running a stock ROM that's a pain in the ass. So I eventually gave up on Viper.. Now, I'm stuck with Viper Audio libs instead if SoundAlive libs for audio effects.
I've obtained the right audio_effects.conf file for Lollipop and replaced the one that Viper edited for it's effects. Sound is working, SoundAlive opens when I launch it, but no sound effects are present when changing the EQ.. any advice you guys can offer?
