The Z2 shots seem to have better dynamic range, a tad sharper, and a wider FOV than the Oppo. HDR is more exaggerated on the Oppo, which, I think the Sony could do better at. Z2 camera package is clearly better IMO.

yeap.. i find out that the Z2 is easier to handle in the night where as the oppo in the day (Due to the super fast AF). Oppo is a disaster without activating the slowshutter mode during the night, turns out blur without any support or tripod, pretty usless i think then..
BUT,
Oppo - $599SGD
Xperia Z2 - $988SGD

Any other observations on the Oppo besides cam? I think it's great that we have all of the choices for different devices!

Oppo feels better & slimmer on the hand, Z2 weighs more and feel more solid
Camera Auto Focus on the Oppo is Super fast, even faster than S5. But tends to blur sometimes due the capturing straight after tapping the screen, LED flash is super bright.
The Oppo's front 5mp snapper is the best i have ever seen, Low noise, & support SCNES MODE!! (So you can take a selfie even if ur back is a sunset) Better then the S5. Z2's front snapper is...... LOL.... don't mention..
Oppo Screen is larger, sharper & very WHITE.. Z2 has a warm display, but has more dynamic range colors then the Oppo. The Z2 display just looks more appealing!
The Oppo Home & UI is NOT appealing to me, despite TONS of themes. I still prefer the Z2 Home & UI (The best i have ever seen so far).
Gestures on the Oppo is a PLUS point and the double tap wake function is very good, 98% success. The Z2 is...LOL.. been tapping the screen to wake the Japan giant up... Sleeping ...60% Success only..
The Opp sounds fuller to me but the Z2 has the stereo speakers
The Fast Charge is True, battery went from 12% to 75% in just 25mins . But only with its HUGE BLOCK charger.
The oppo does not support 5Ghz wireless signals from my router, the Z2 does.
The Oppo stock Chinese keyboard only support traditional Chinese input
So my conclusion is...

Wow great balanced assessment! Good luck on your choice!

Warmer whites are more accurate The Oppo is most likely cool and blueish which is what we usually think is white but isn't what is actually accurate

not i am biased.. I still prefer my Z2.....LOL..

nope, in fact it only loses 3% the max overnight. About the same as Z2 in stamina Mode. But oppo drains faster then the Z2 during heavy usage. In terms of battery life, Z2 still better then the oppo

7a's pics look blurry, I like it's camera a lot more anyways, z2's pictures look washed out, just not as good.

The picture of the Ship is clearly in Oppo's favor, Its a much better picture. A very good picture. All of the others i would give to sony.

Yep, oppo's HDR mode is very good..
And for oppo's price tag, I feel more worth it then the Z2... The Z2's camera could be better, I heard its because of the separation department of the hardware & software, they did not work together

Quick question about the Oppo. Do you happen to know if it supports MHL or Slimport? I sent Oppo and email, and they never got back to me.

OPPO 7a standby time is a better now after their latest update, but still needs a lot of work. Also losts of complaints of yellow tint across bottom of screen. Two reasons I returned the phone.

Z3 or Z2 should I save the money?

Ok... So I told myself I would wait for the iPhone to come out before I buy anything, well it did and it sucks. Now I'm on the fence. Buy the Z2 for 530 with dock and headphones. Or wait for the Z3 and pay 799.
I know this is a great problem to have. But what you gonna do.
Any thoughts. Are the extra features of the z3 worth the extra 270 dollars.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Note 3 user here, I also waited to see what the iPhone had to offer and the off contact price alone ($1000) for the 5.5/128 is just plain crazy. Z3 looks awesome, note 4 did not impress either.
Can't say though, I'm a tech junkie and I say get the Z3.
I was in the same boat as you, just picked a Z2 and I couldn't be happier, the battery in this thing is amazing
Sent from my Xperia Z2
both will make you happy.
I'll opt for the Z3 because better screen, slimmer, better waterproofing (nice if you have kids) and possibly even better battery performance.
Z3 also can brighter and save battery than Z2.
Sent from my ST26i using XDA Free mobile app
Problem with the Z3, is that it will hit the market at $799, at least that's what never-msrp has the presale on eBay for. Where as I can get a Z2 with cradle for $530. That's a $270 dollar difference.
I'm very dissapointed about the iPhone, detest the camera in the HTC One, and hate the Plastic of the LG G3, Can't do touchwiz. So here I am, debating over the Z2.
The iPhone 5.5 64GB will be 850 off contract... Way to rich for my blood, for a device that has nothing on the $530 Z2 or $799 Z3 + 40 for an SD Card.
For me it will depend on how much better the Z3 is at low light photos.... Most of the time I'm taking photos with my phone I'm out at night so it would be great to finally have clear photos and not fuzzy faces.
I'm just going for the Z3, it's not much much better than Z2, but it's better and newer with improved "things"
I use my Phone for messaging, calling, a lot of music listening over speakers and with headset. And making a lot of pictures with it.
depending on specs. and words from people it is an overall improvement so that made my choise.
I'm getting it with a 2 year T-Mobile contract so I do not have to pay €650 at once, when a new Phone comes out (and it will after 6 months I guess) i'll sell the Z3 and buy the newer one if it's a lot improved over Z3.
we'll see, good luck with your choise, Z2 and Z3 are both Sony and both amazing machines

I feel the same. If the HTC one had a half decent camera, it would be my number one choice - for sound and the metal back namely. It seems silly that the camera function is my main complaint though. But 4MP is just ludicrous. I keep expecting something better each new model, but nothing. I mean FFS, they are so embarassed about the poor resolution they don't even list in on the specs for the device on their web site. And to add insult to injury, their front facing camera is higher resolution (5MP). What an utter joke.
iPhones are just so overpriced, and so lacking in options. At least now they have two form factors. How revolutionary...
I detest waiting... But I think for now, I will hold off with my iPhone 5S. Until the Z3 is released. See where we are after that. I like the idea of the bumpers and the higher rating for the water proof is an added benefit. I will wait and see... Maybe the Z2 will drop even more in price when the Z3 releases... We shall see..
I say wait fro battery review, maybe loudspeaker review and audio review before deciding but on paper. I favour the z3 the design aside from speaker and notification light is better and the high res audio sounds good and its newer.
I was about to buy the Z2 but Z3 Was announced so i may aswell wait
This might be useful to you. I literally just got a Z2 off contract it was grade A and I paid £330. Then the Z3 gets announced. While there may not seem a lot of difference, here's what I find important.
Improved audio through headphones.
Rounded design
Smaller USB flap (the Z2 covered the sim card tray too, I was like WTF!)
Better screen
Improved battery life ( I currently get about 1 day 7 hours on my Z2)
Improved water resistance, Always good
Thinner
Slightly better performance.
Just that brand new Sony feel.....mmmmm
And that is why I'm selling my Z2 and getting the Z3, hope this helps you in some way!

Its on par with the HTC M8 if not better. I need to know if the screen and battery life is as good or better then I would def get it.
Battery should in theory be better. I have a feeling GSM will rate it at 105HR. 110 would be mindblowing.
The LCD is brighter but are the colors and contrast just as good? We'll seeeee
Broke down and ordered from handtec...
@totaltoanage
thanks for the vid share. that is exactly what i wanted to know/hear.
sounds like Sony did their homework, and made significant improvements to the dual speakers!
@AM Radio
So it looks like the Z3 has about the same if not better battery life then the Z2.
Z3 has ~30mins more time browsing but Z2 has ~30mins more time in Video Playback. This is pretty much equal. I rather have more time browsing anyway.
Z3 has 1 hour more than Z2 in talk time.
Z3 wins in terms of better battery performance!
I'm sold. Btw I'm coming from an iPhone4 LMAO

Z3 vs Note 4 Battery and Camera

I have sony z2 i get bored of devices really quick and it's time for a upgrade. I only care for camera and battery life the most. So which out of these 2 devices you guys think will be great device for camera and battery life?
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Go check out the blind camera test comparison on Phonearena. The Note 4 did well the Z3 not so great. Consider the fact that the Note 4 and iPhone 6 and Plus all use Sony camera modules and take better pictures. The Z3 is just as capable but needs a software update to compete with them.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...comparison-iPhone-6-is-distant-second_id61676
As for battery life the Z3 and Note 4 are both great, however if you surf the web alot the AMOLED screen will actually use a lot more power than an LCD and also AMOLED is prone to screen burn as the organic phosphors wear out. The blue is the one affected typically having 8000 Hrs to 1/2 brightness. I have seen 2-3 month old phones with burn in (Display models are on 24 hrs at full brightness). If you are a casual user the Note 4 might be better but for heavy users you will most likely get noticable burn in before your 2 year contract is up.
This table is a bit dated and both LCD and AMOLED have come a long way but still useful.

Overall I think the Z3 is the best option right now, I am sure they will make the camera better in the next update. I like Samsung but hate AMOLED so I am biased in a way.
Note 4 for Camera
Z3 for Battery
You shouldn't really be upgrading from a z2 unless your not bothered about spending money. The z2 is as good as the note 4 or the z3.
I personally would go for the z3 because touchwiz is just too much ontop of android wheras Sony just keep things almost stock like.
That ontop of the fact that quad hd screens are pointless. They actually have too many drawbacks like frame drops higher battery drain. They just aren't as smooth as 1080p displays yet.
If you're bored easily go for the note4. The z3 isn't that different from the z2 and unfortunately sony screws up with the camera software (and there is no reason to believe they'll improve it that much given the past.) Note4 wins on camera overall imo.
Z3 wins in battery but note4 shouldbdo fine there as well...

I don't agree. Also, it's true Sony makes all of the sensors, but the Z3 camera uses a 1/2.3" sensor whereas the others use a 1/3" sensor
Are you basing you opinion off of one review site? I don't think that's a good assessment.

That link was only a blind camera comparison not a phone review by the way.
I mean Note is not bad at all but for me AMOLED kills it. I keep 2 year contracts so I get OCD about burn in lol. Just my opinion by the way.
Battery life varies based on what you use it for, webpages LCD is much better, videos oled.... LCD of current generation are getting close to oleds in efficiency in videos etc.
Battery: Z3 better about 1-1.5h Screen on time
Camera: Note 4 better accept extreme low light.
Samsung TW heavier, lagger but much more functions.
Note 4 will have much more custom Roms, Kernels, Mods so you will improve battery with after next some months.

Never did happen with older sammy phones
Z3 is much better than exynos n4 in battery and is as good as snapdragon n4
In display, no phone can beat note 4 in it (except brightness)
I prefer z3's camera over note 4

I already used Snap N4 a week. I'm sure that Z3 battery better, atleast 1h SoT.
Display: N4 is not the best, of course very good. It has a bit yellow tint. I compared N4 next to Dell UltraSharp calibrated.
It also is not good for your eyes due to too high contrast.
The Note 4's 16MP rear camera flaunts the fastest focusing speed owing to its latest ISOCELL sensor technology which is boosted by Galaxy S5's phase-detection auto-focus capability.
The new Note 4 also features optical image stabilisation feature for its rear camera and a 3.7MP front camera for capturing selfies as well as full HD video recording at 30fps.
In contrast, the Xperia Z3 sports an imposing 20.7MP rear camera with 8x digital zoom and 3x clear image zoom, and a compact 2.2MP front camera for capturing 1080p (Full HD) video at 30fps.

UK Oppo Product Ambassador for the OPPO Find X5 Pro

First of all i would like to give a big thank you to OPPO and the OPPO Product Ambassador Team (Eleanor) for giving me a spot among the first 20 selected global OPPO Product Ambassodor Team. Im currently still waiting for my OPPO Find X5 Pro and hoping that DHL don't delay it more.
In general i'm really excited to be part of that experience and can't wait to lay my hands on the new OPPO Find X5 Pro. For myself i have always been using android devices which currently im using a Samsung s22 Ultra and this would be my first time trying the OPPO flagship which i heard some good reviews already on it and being the one of the best smartphones at present.

Photography and Video Comparisons
So im a photographer based in London and keen to be testing out the cameras with Oppo's first custom imagining chip which are color calibrated with the tech collaboration Hasselblad on the OPPO Find X5 Pro. As a photographer i know Hasselbrad colors are one of the best which i'll be showcasing photos taken during daylight, night and my daily routines. Having the s22 ultra as well i will do a comparison between both phone's cameras and seeing who does better. Also i'll be testing the raw capabilities of the images in post-editing with comparison with the s22 Ultra. For my normal routines as posting stories on social i'll be testing out the quality of video which can be taken.
Tech Side
In terms of tech with the new snapdragon 8 Gen1 which can be found on the latest flagship phones, in which i'll do a benchmark of the performance in my general daily usage and during heavy usage like taking photos/videos or even playing games. I'll be having a comparison of performance with the new s22 Ultra which i don't know if is possible anymore to do benchmark with the recent controversy. Also Oppo includes a charger in their box (Some brands which are selling it seperately now) with the new fast-charging 80W which i can't wait to see in action with 12mins only to be fully charged! Their new 120hz AMOLED screen which i can't wait to see as it is dynamic in terms of hz which is good for battery life.
Software
For software the OPPO Find X5 Pro is using the ColorOS 12 in which i heard it was greatly improved now and would do comparisons with Samsung One UI. But in general i heard it was smooth and well optimized so can't wait to test that out.
Support
As a OPPO Product Ambassador i'll now be looking forward to push the OPPO Find X5 Pro to the global market which i know is not well known at the moment specially in the UK. In the UK market where Apple/Samsung is dominating, i would say OPPO is a underdog which a very good contender to be one of the best. So can't wait to show you guys the results of the comparisions and the review.
Any questions or any queries regarding the OPPO Find x5 Pro, please do ask in the comments or even message me. I'll try my best to complete those demands.

Really looking forward to your comparison, especially as you own the Samsung s22 ultra and you are a photographer so your feedback will be appreciated.
BTW you mentioned it take 12min to fully charge the oppo which is incorrect, I believe it takes around the same time as my oppo find x2 pro of around 38min but the new oppo has larger capacity battery and new battery health management which should allow 1600 cycles (over 4 year of charging everyday) life.
The dispaly is an LPTO2 AMOLED screen hence why it can do dynamic 1hz and all the way up to 120hz save more battery etc.
The display also uses pixelworks memc chipset for the sdr to hdr scaling and picture processing features.
More info here.

It will be good to see if there is banding issue when the brightness is cranked up both phones, past experience will I found the Samsung suffers from banding issues on videos with brightness cranked up and my oppo find x2 pro no issues what so ever. This is also the case with the new samsung tab s8 ultra which I own.
Anyway looking forward to your feedback.

Thanks a lot for the information on the specs.
I have not yet received the phone but yea i'll put the battery in real life test to see.
As you mentioned the display screen has that new dynamic 1hz-120hz which i'll test to see if it actually saves more battery.
For banding issue on the new ultra s22 i don't think its an issue anymore but i'll sure put the OPPO find x5 pro to the test together with the s22 Ultra.
Thanks. I have the oppo find x5 pro and will be getting the Samsung s22 ultra as I have few issues with find x5 pro (notifications) and not a major upgrade over my oppo find x2 pro bar the camera.
Hmmm....there seem to be a million Oppo ambassadors around the world, it's becoming like The Stepford Wives. Personally, I avoid reviews from "ambassadors" as there is absolutely no way on earth they are going to be even remotely neutral.
I've got an Oppo X5 Pro myself and it's a very good phone, but it should be at the price.

I would try my best to be neutral as i said i'll do comparisons between my own phone S22 Ultra and see which ones come back better. With the price i do agree like the S22 ultra offers way more cameras and better quality for the price but also in terms of performance both of them are at the same level and battery life S22 ultra could be better than the Oppo pro find x5. Plus with the release of S22 Ultra with the exynos chip, it had so many issues with the phone bugging out on lockscreen and randomly have to shut it down due to it being frozen in apps. But the Oppo hasn't experience something like this yet but also they using the snapdragon chip.

My Review as a Photographer for OPPO Find X5 Pro

Hi All !
So today I am here with a detailed product review of Oppo Find X5 Pro as a Photographer POV.
First of all let me introduce myself to make this thread interesting.
My name is Abhishek Yadav and I am the only Oppo Product Ambassador for Oppo Find X5 Pro in India.
Firstly my expectation with this device was way too high from its first teaser as its the top most flagship product of OPPO this year till now.
I received a Glaze Black color variant which looks super classy in all the lighting condition as the ceramic is so well polished that you can use it like a mirror and the super cool thing about glaze black variant is it adapts in all the lighting conditions to look super premium every time.
Have a look at the device first.

Hope you can feel the flagship class of this device through my product photography.
Now let's talk about performance .
This device comes with a Qualcomm® Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 which is Ground-breaking innovation in terms of AI, photography, gaming, and connectivity in todays day to day life.
With this we can play high graphic games super smoothly with good FPS and no doubt about the RAM and Storage Capacity as always OPPO did a great job by providing 12 GB + 256 GB variant LPDDR5 @ 3200 MHz 4 x 16-bit RAM Type and UFS3.1 @ 1x2 Lanes HS-Gear4 ROM Type. And it does not have any SD card slot with is fine to keep it speedy and secure at the same time.
In Terms of Display It has a massive 6.70" QHD+(3216 × 1440) AMOLED (Flexible/LTPO) Display with 92.70% Screen to body ratio with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus which has a Brightness level of 8192.
The display uses a dynamic refresh rate switching technology which enables the display refresh rate to dynamically switch to lower refresh rates to save power and keep your system running smoothly.
It works on a minimum 1Hz to maximum upto 120Hz with a touch sampling rate of 240Hz with 1.07 billion colors (10-bit) of Color Depth and with Pixel Density of 525 PPI.
How can we forget to talk about the OS (The Amazing Color OS 12.1).
So the OPPO Find X5 Pro runs on Android Version 12 on top of Color OS 12.1 which gives so much of customization to keep our smartphone look and feel amazingly smooth.
And as its my personal review I can share some of my personally loved feature of Color OS 12.1
>Multi-Screen Connect
>Flexible Windows
>Personalization
>Camera and microphone toggles & indicators
>Oppo Share
>Reverse Wireless Charging
>Omoji
>Air Gestures
>Super Recorder
>O Relax
>Bionic Eye Protection
>O1 Ultra Vision Engine
And the most interesting , as a flagship device this also comes with IP68 Water and Dust Resistance
The speakers are also decent enough to provide you deep bass and clear sound experience. One you start listening to the speakers personally you feel the flagship level and richness of this device.
And In the battery compartment , This OPPO Find X5 Pro comes with a massive 5000mAh Battery with 80W SUPERVOOC which delivers 50% charge in just 12 minutes.
And to provide flagship experience oppo added wireless charging with 50W AIRVOOC Delivers 100% charge in just 47 minutes which is amazing in terms of high graphic work which can drain your battery faster so we don't have to worry about this now.
Customized Cooling System
-A next generation heat-dissipation system, with a super-large vapor chamber which is nearly 75% larger and cutting-edge 3D graphene films, helps the phone stay cool even during intensive tasks with about 75% Larger vapor chamber.
This device has a X-axis linear motor by which user can Feel the vibration of every goal and point scored. With O-Haptics, you can even set different vibrations for different friends and contacts.
So last but not the least one of my favorite part of this Review.

OPPO Find X5, Step 3: Let's move to the review Part 3

Hello Everyone,
The last part with my final thoughts.
The first one is here.
The second here
The third one is this thread.
Camera
For the camera review. First, 2 weeks of snow, rain, wind, cold weather. Not the best for going outside, taking pictures without gloves, or having incredible scenery to shoot.
So, I will go further later.
But so far, I am still trying to understand why the primary camera is only 6P when the UW is 7P. And why only 110° for UW. And why only 5P for Telephoto. And why no x4 optical zoom. And why only 2 axis stabilization? And where is the microscope lens from the X3.
And why an additional imaging NPU when nobody uses all the functionalities of the triple Snapdragon ISP?
Okay, it's a lot of why? But if you come from the X3 series, you will definitely ask yourself these questions and see if the X5 is worth the update.
Spoiler alert: I won't be able to answer that.

First, the MariSilicon AKA Imaging NPU:
4K Ultra (AI) Night Video
Ultra HDR
Hasselblad science
18 TOPS for AI Computing (11.6Tops/W)
20Bits Dynamic Range
Realtime RAW
The MariSilicon is made of a NPU, an ISP and a Memory Subsystem (8.5GB/S DDR).
It should be 20x faster than the ISP From the X3 Pro (meaning the ISP from SD 888). But Denoise (Noise Reduction Algorithm). They compare the 20Bits vs the 18Bits from SD888 bringing more contrast and brightness + a RGBW Pro Mode.
Okay, SD888 has three 18Bits ISP, got a Scalar, Tensor, and Vector Units, can process 0.1 lux video, capture 4K HDR videos, got AI-Based AF and Auto Exposure, got 26 TOPS of power processing.
So, on the paper, I'm pretty confuse. Okay, it's the trend, Google with its Tensor, Xiaomi with its C1 and soon C2, OPPO with MariSilicon, and VIVO with its V1…
Okay, it might help OEMs dev bring the same libraries and computational algorithms to whatever the SOC you use from Qualcomm to Unisoc via Mediatek and don't care about their ISP capacity, from mid-range to premium flagship.
But you need to feed them, with data, scenarios, and for now, it's only on the X5 and X5 Pro under Qualcomm and even the Mediatek variant doesn't have it.
So, so far, is MariSilicon working at 100% of its efficiency?
I don't know the same, but I don't think so. New technology always needs at least half a year in the wild to be better. It should be interesting to redo all the tests in September or before the end of the year with all the updates done in between.
Concerning the app, you will find the usual modes like Night, Video, Pro, Photo (AI, HDR, and 50Mp), Portrait, and the extra ones like Pano, Movie, Slo-Mo, Time Lapse, Long Exposure, Dual Video, Sticker (kill me), Text Scanner and the Hasselblad XPAN Mode.
For the XPAN mode, you have a color or black and white option, even if you don't have any B&W dedicated sensor. So, you will only have the 42/45mm mode and not the 30mm (for now, who knows).
For the color's restitution, we are close to the one in the OP9 Pro under Oxygen OS 11, meaning good even perfect for many users of this device. However, as usual, different lens construction, different aperture… meaning different color restitution between UW, Wide, and Tele…
And guess what, because the UW got a better construction lens, the photos taken with it are better than many flagships. And that's something that drives me crazy. If the UW would have a f/1.8 7P and the primary camera also the same thing (or even better a f/1.7), the Sony IMX 766 potential might have been exploited. But let's remember, we just received one and only update so far. And usually, there is always a gap, for the best or the worst, after a few OTAs.
Now, if I had to compare… Xiaomi is offering way more options, including for Vloggers and Bloggers, different long exposure modes or even videos modes (movies effects such as magic zoom, time freeze, // worlds, etc.), 8K, and Google a better computational AI and tech for skin restitution, portrait, night shots (plus an x4 optical zoom).
If OPPO can include functionalities from them or compete with them, Bingo.
Here are some pictures taken below. No fancy photography, no artistic one, at first, I try the phone as 90% of us, you take out of your pocket, you point and shoot, that's it, ready to go in your IG, WhatsApp group, or to your mom.
The folder with untouched pictures (and more shots) is here.
And don't get me wrong, I am one of those who think before having a cutting edge DLSR or Camera, know first how to shoot, compose your scene, and have a vision. It's not because you have a fancy camera you will take fantastic shots.
So far, excluding what the NPU is marketed for (Ultra Night Video, Photos, and so on, I will continue to shoot at night when the weather and the conditions are available), it's a good camera… for early 2021. So far, I will say my OP9 Pro or P6 Pro or Mi 10 Pro or Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders are doing the job precisely the same or even better.
So, what are the plans here?
Take pictures at night, people, colors, landscape, city
Use the Movie Mode and do the same also at night
Having a clear sky at night to see the moon and shoot it.
Post some samples.
Play with long exposure for light painting or even taillights.
Battery
I talked earlier about the battery life or the super power saving mode and not having an issue for the day for it.
If I have to go further in this part, the X5 comes with the SUPERVOOC DVT 80W, it is compatible with 80W/65W, etc fast charging, 30W AIRVOOC, and 10W Reverse Wireless Charging. Too.
So you will have from 0 to 50% under 15mn.
It means it's fast for charging and has no heat issue as the 80W is 40Wx2 at peak times. You only have a 2/3mn difference between 80W or 65W fast charging anyway.
Wireless charging is compatible with current norms, and I am flawlessly using my 55W wireless charger. You can even choose what kind of charging you want, like slow/optimized for bedtime, the same for wireless.
There are 2 Cells 2340/2400 mAh.
No heat issue while charging; as I said, it's 2x40W, and it's now a while OEMs developed fast charging. 100W on one cell is reachable, so less than the half in 2022… easy peasy.
As usual, you can choose between different profiles to save more power in case of or depending on your usage. Why run full powerhouse if you're just watching videos on a social network.
My thoughts
So, at the end of the day, I need to dig up more ColorOS, and dig more for the photography part, especially at night.
So far, I see the OPPO Find X5 as a 2021 flagship under Android 12 with an NPU I am still trying to figure out the utility. No offense here; it's just how I use the smartphone for the past 2 weeks, I didn't have the opportunity to shoot vibrant HDR at night videos. I got rain, snow, cold, no parties or trips to the city past two weeks. It is on the checklist. But I'm thinking, in that case, I am using the smartphone as everyone else here, depending on the occasion and the opportunity.
For the rest, it's a nice rounded, balanced device. ColorOS is a surprise, mixed with nice and why questions, but as I said, hard to jump into a new customized OS you never used before (even on OP, as I stayed under O2OS 11).
However, despite the OPPO/OP framework on top of the Android One, the addition of many OPPO Apps (that need to be separate from the OS and moved on the Play Store BTW and allowed to uninstall), the system is responsive, have a great battery life, some nice customizations and still looks like, sometimes, as a clean OS (looks like, not is). There are still some glitches here and there and some UX details that I'm not used to (and don't know if it is intended this way or bugs).
For the camera part, UW is good, Main can be better, and Tele is under competition. I need more options in the camera and gallery app. It's a solid day-to-day photography phone, but there are better 2021 devices in front of it for now. That's why I'm curious about the following updates for the firmware and the NPU.
The build quality is present. The X5 is too light for me. I feel back I was sent a few years ago. It's a 6.55", meaning it's not tiny, but I can feel and see the difference with the 6.7/6.78" inches smartphones I've been using for the past year. However, it is pleasant to get this size, as it is well balanced, under 200g (7.41oz). Flat-screen, thinner would have perfect for me.
Okay, people will say no SD Card, No Jack port… Well, I don't care personally. Yeah, I prefer a 512GB variant, but I can deal with 256GB, and I am using Snapdragon Sound for wireless Audio.
For the price, in Europe, the product is around 999€ VAT included (meaning $999 taxes excluded in the US if we should imagine a retail price). For this price, 12GB instead of 8GB, a better construction lens for the primary camera with better stabilization. The same for the Tele camera, better camera and construction lens, and add a B&W sensor for the XPAN Mode. And maybe I will consider buying it.
So far, as a European living in the US, I see the X5 as an OP9 refresh, a little brother of the OP9 Pro. In Europe, the prices are between 619 and 919€ currently, with the addition of the 80W, the MariSilicon and switching one IMX 689 to IMX766, 749 or 799€/$ seems more the sweet spot for this model.
So, keep it posted; fav the threads; I don't know yet if I will update this one or go for another thread with the new information about this OPPO Find X5.
And here we are, at the end of this review. Again, thank you OPPO and @OPPO Ambassador Team for this opportunity.
