[Q] USB 3.0 Issues... - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok i seem to be the only person having this problem, im not sure if its my computer (i have never used the usb 3.0 on it before), the phone or the cable (brand new).
When i connect my phone via the usb 3.0 i get a notification message popup on my computer tell me that the device can perform faster if plugged into a super speed usb 3.0 port.
Problem is i have tried all of the usb 3.0 ports and still the same message, i checked in device manager and it says it is plugged into a usb 2.0 port which it isn't and its only charging at 98ma.
How do i get the usb 3.0 to work?

Have you done this?

Yeah it only shows the top two options on mine the usb 3.0 one doesn't appear.

I sit in a similair boat. I don't get the option for USB 3.0 either

No one have any help with this? I have been trying to solve it for about a month now, I could try a different cable maybe a genuine samsung one but I cannot find them anywhere.
Sent from my SM-G900F using XDA Free mobile app

I've done some testing on the speed differences between file transfers on USB 2 and 3 and the difference seemed really minimal (yes, I had the correct options set on the phone). Has anyone else compared speeds?

Yes I know about the speeds, but please if you could refrain from taking this off topic as I really need help with this issue.

Hmm, when I connect phone with USB 3.0 cable (tested) in my USB 3.0 port on PC nothing apeared in notification bar except info about charging current (450mA) from Galaxy Chargin Current!! Strange....
EDIT: I changed port on PC and notification finally showed, thanks for help!
Cheers

Can you give further details on what you had to do to resolve. I am experiencing this issue and I have tried.....EVERYTHING!!!
I have a Windows 8.1 machine 64-bit, and have USB3 plugged from the motherboard. I have a USB3 pen drive which operates at superspeed without issue (so I know the USB hub, etc is in good shape). I also have a USB 3 card which is a PCI express and have tried connecting this to a Windows 7 64-bit machine and I receive the same results. I have 2 cables and both give the same result. So I am stuck.
On both machines it reports that the device can operate quicker which would suggest Windows knows that this is a USB 3 device. Any ideas how to obtain the USB 3 option on the phone?

I would guess, cutting the +5V wire from USB would help. If you don't want to cut your cable, buy an USB extension cord an cut off pin 1 from the female plug or mask it with tape.

Charging without Sync
I would like to do the opposite.
i.e. Charge but not sync.
Anyone know whether it is possible to add a switch to allow a sync when required only?
My phone is plugged in all the time at work however active sync keeps switching on the device. i just what to sync at the end of the day.
Just disable usb in File->Connection Settings

Disable activesync (options --> disable USB loading). It will show in grey color in the system tray.
Re: Charging without Sync
I am very interested in charging the battery sometimes without sync, how can I do that ?
You said

but where do you do that ?? there is not such options in ActiveSync on the PocketPC.
ActiveSync on the desktop
But if I disable USB charging on my Hermes, would it still charge with the normal charger??
Thanks
Alex
Anyone tried doing either Regedit mod or cutting pin 1?
I can't find: Registry "HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\usbfndrv" on my device.
Cutting pin 1 does not work, in fact PC can't detect PPC when pin 1's cut.

I can't find in my TyTN the registry key "usbfndrv"
Still can't get it to work.
Any progress?
We have only recently started developing for the Hermes and we need to stop it charging while we are communicating with it over USB.
It appears you have to supply 5V before you can communicate over USB (ActiveSync). This rules out cutting the cable.
The registry hack sounds ideal but there doesn't appear to be such an entry on our device.
It appears to stop charging when the device is turned off so we should be able to enable and disable charging with software.
Did anyone have any more suggestions?
You can try to create the registry key and see if it works.

Are you using stock firmware or custom one?
It doesn't work because you bought a micro B to usb A cable but you need a micro A (with 4 right angles) to usb A like this :
.
I know that because I bought the same type of cable than yours and it's not working .
@mavasilisk: stock firmware
@Starman: i am not sure it would fit. cable that was in package when i bought tablet was with this type of connector that i have now.
Yes and that is for connecting the device to a computer.
What you need is called an OTG cable and that looks exactly as starman said.
The Nokia ca-157 looks similar to the cable you bought but is has the right "end".
Well, today i have tested this nokia ca157cabel. Doesn't work.
Sent using Tapatalk 2
Then either your usbport is broken, or the device you want to connect tells that it needs more then 100mA.
When i connect my tablet with my computer, file transfering works i both way, computer recognize it normaly. Is there any other way to se if usb is broken???
Sent from my A70S using Tapatalk 2
No, then your stick needs more ( or at least tells the archos ) more then 100mA.
Did you try a powered Hub?

Powered hub is something that i was planing to do next. Usb stick is not so important because there are always sd-cards, but i want to buy one of those keyboard with leather case from e-bay and i am not sure if that will work.
Sent using Tapatalk 2
Try the hub, if that works, then it is the powerconsumption of the stick and the keyboard is working.
Or try UrukDroid, as this raises the output and is able to use most sticks.

ok, i have UrukDroid & i have nokia cable ca157 and it is still does not working.
problem is that every powered hub that i find is HUUUGE and have 5-10 usb ports, and i don't need that much.
EDIT
i did it. i made my own "usb powered hub". ok it is far from it but actualy it works.
in micro usb i connected pins 5 and 4
only thing diferent, is that i put external power on vcc. and.....it works.
nokia ca157 DOESN'T works so don't use it. waste of money

USB OTG to our GT540

Hello !
i have one question to developers...
do we have usb host /otg compiled in any of our kernels?
seems that p500 users managed to get it eventually work
thread about that
if not, can anybody compile them.
i'm ready to test kernels and so... (i'll make otg and y-cable in few days)
cheers
EDIT: ok, i cutted original lg cable, and it seemed that it already have otg enabled (pin4 and 5 are connected)
so i made y cable to provide external power, but nothing happened.. no new inputs in dmesg and apps from market also didnt make it mount. (tried with 2 diffirent usb sticks , external hdd, usb mouse...)
maybe there is something with kernel ?!? can anybody compile new kernel where is otg drivers inside , so i can test them out.
drivers what p500 users used is zte blade -s .. (bcoz it haz same cpu msm7227) (http://sven.killig.de/android/Blade/usb_host/)
Its the hardware, the USB devices like a memory stick needs power to work so the device needs external power to power to the USB device to be order to work.

if you can, read my post again. i told that i've provided external power to usb stick, but nothing (i think that there is something with drivers or etc..)

Yes, you would have to include drivers in the kernel to make it work, like with any hardware. I don't think any of kernels available for our devices have OTG drivers, so you or someone else should compile kernel with these drivers included but that doesn't necessarily means that everything will work.
Wingrime's kernel is open source

let me see if i understand we need to "cook" the OTG support in some Kernel and then add the drivers to the room so they work and with the original cable we are good to go?

What about the external power though?, the LG GT540 does not have such hardware.
Unless we can get a external powered OTA USB cable, we can probably do such thing

you can buy them if you find (Y-splitter cable).
but i made my own.
it just needs power (5v)
eg. from pc usb port.

Since few days I'm having an issue with the usb cable i got from lg. When i connect it to pc or a charger, both show charging slowly.
And it doesn't give me an option to change the connection type when i connect it to pc either, so pc is not able to recognize it.
When i use the cable i got from Nokia, it works properly.
I'm thinking it's something with the lg usb cable, but I'm not sure because it's not damaged or anything. It's still in a great condition.
Can anyone suggest what can be the real cause of this?

Well there may be 2 reasons.. your phone might be set to "Charge Only" mode or you might have a Charge Only USB cable.
I haven't touched Lollipop yet, but try going to Settings > Storage > Click the 3 dots > Choose USB Computer Connection, then check MTP. If that doesn't work.. read on..
Most USB Data & Charge cables contain 2x 28 AWG DATA wires, 2x 20-28 AWG POWER conductors and 1x DRAIN wire, giving us 5 pins on each side of the Cable (USB to Micro USB)
If you look closely on your USB Cable you may see some small print. On my official LG Charger/USB Cable that came with my G2 I see the code "28AWG 2C".
28AWG is the specification of my DATA wires.
2C is telling me I have 2 POWER CONDUCTOR wires.
Do you see any kind of model number or code on your USB Cable? If so.. google it or share it here.
Fun fact: The lower the AWG value (in my case, 28) the faster charge you get since it will have less resistance.

I think I'm in the same situation, but I swear mine started when I did USB tethering for the first time. Now when I plug in it always says USB tethering even when that is turned off, and I have nowhere to select usb connection mode. It happens the same way on any laptop, not just the one I tethered that one time.
Were any of you able to resolve this issue? I'm having the same problem.
Thinking a reload would address it. but would like to back up the device first, kinda annoying.

Are you saying that you get the USB connection type charging, mtp, to, midi when tethering in enabled?
Hello
From past 2 weeks i am wondering on internet for a solution . Hours and hours of surfing and articles but still
Hope some one solve this issue.
Okay. First i m using LG G2 F320 K update to lollipop . Non rooted. It was working fine . I can transfer files in MTP .
But about a month ago i get an update for my phone . And after some days i need to transfer some files to my phone , i wonder when i connected my phone to computer nothing happened . No notification on mobile for changing PTP MTP option . Also nothing happened in Computer device manager..
From that day i am unable to connect my phone with windows 10. It always charging mobile.
I uninstalled all drivers in device manager and installed from LG website. I updates windows N and NK MTP update from windows for windows 10.
I changed different data cables and different computers and different ports . All stuff i can do. Still no luck.
When ever i plug USB data cable it always put my Mobile on Charging . No notification on Mobile. Also i go in setting > storage> and there is no option in upper right corner to select USB PC connection .
I am in developer mode and debugging mode is on also. Also USB tethering option is Disabled .
Kindly some one help me regarding this.

I'm wondering how I could possibly find a driver for my rooted S5... or
maybe find someone who could make one for me and I could pay them.
thanks!
I've got an AX88772B base adaptor. power and LAN LED both light up (S4 mini they stayed dark)
but the S5 provides no indication that it recognizes the Ethernet interface.
Wrong adaptor or is S5 unable to use USB-Ethernet dongles at all?
Is there any USB-Ethernet adaptor known to work with an S5 ?
Um, you can just plug the phone straight in to your comp with the charging cable and enable USB tether, no additional adapter required.

How do you plan on installing a driver in Android? If there was one
Pretty sure it would have to be baked into the ROM in the first place, although being rooted might allow it, but I've never heard of installing drivers in Android
Not to mention, the huge description of the item on Amazon states "For Windows Tablets & Raspberry Pi Zero"

All true, I'm sure. I'm searching for experience with a Ethernet-USB chipset that DOES work wiht the drivers of an S5, just like there ARE Ethernet chipsets that do work wiht the stock Nvidia android tablet.
Maybe there is none, because Samsung didn't bother to include any usb-Ethernet drivers in their ROM.
Or - perferrably - I'm too much a noob, to know that Samsung Phones support only XYZ chipsets.
So I'd need either
- a trick / hack / secret 8-times tap to enable Ethernet-via-USB
- a (list) of USB-Ethernet chipsets other than mine (AX88772B) that ARE supported by Samsung S5 w/o fuss.
Got any pointers in these directions?

No idea if it works with the S5, and you'd need a Male MicroUSB to Female USB adapter too
