A good one
If you think about the poor countries which people still just start to use year 2008 model phones, you will see that the market is very big. Note: Most of the people in the world are in that group.

[Journal] My Road to Becoming a Great Developer

My Road to Becoming a Great Developer
Intro
Hello I am Kifno. I have had my HTC Hero CDMA for a short period of time and I've fallen in love with it and everything about it. I love testing out other developer's apps, tweaks, mods, themes, roms, kernels, etc. I also have recently gotten into the modding and tweaking aspect of our hero's too. Some of you may know me from my tweaked build.prop's. But I have decided that I want to be known as a great developer for the HTC Hero CDMA. I am going to keep this thread as a journal during my journey to becoming a great developer, posting what I have learned, accomplished, created, modded, tweaked, etc. that is making me one step closer to reaching that goal. Hopefully during my journey you all will appreciate some of my work for our HTC hero CDMA devices.
1/22/11
- Working on v0.7 of my tweaked build.prop's
- reading the c programming language (chapter 1)

Developer for editing a text file values? Right, I wonder what programming that is? By the way, does Aosp know your editing his builds and redistributing them?

I'M ON A JOURNEY TO BE THE GREATEST DEV FOR THE HTC HERO CDMA
good luck, we already have the best dev's for it.

I'm new to becoming a developer. My first piece of work is simple, editing the build.prop from other developer's roms. And I'm learning how to program and learn the c language and learning java so I can do bigger and better things for the HTC Hero CDMA. And as a matter of fact not only did I make a editing build.prop for aosp but aosp as of last 2 updates to his new gingerbread rom has implemented my editing build.prop into his gingerbread rom by default so I'm pretty sure aosp know's i'm editing the build.prop to make the hero better for the community. That is why aosp is keeping it implemented into his rom by default. Please be positive here I'm on a journey to become a great dev and all great dev's started small okay. Remember I'm NEW to becoming a dev.

Yeah I plan on sticking with the HTC Hero CDMA for a WHILE!
No need to be negative guys. At least he's going out and working for it. That's a lot more than 90% of people here can say. Most are too lazy to learn and want others to do it for them. Really can't believe that on xda we have at least two guys who who would actually try and discourage someone from developing. I think you guys need to check yourselves. Pathetic.
To kifno, goodluck friend and best wishes! I can't wait to see what you do!

Wow lets watch the negative.. Glad there are still people who want to progress the hero.. And he isn't taking claim of anyones rom he is editing the build.prop giving people some extra tweaks to make our phones quicker.. Kudos on your hard work kifno and there are some big shoes to fill around here and someone needs to do it.. I plan on trying but its hard to make time with life right now for me, so thank you for giving it a shot..

We aren't trying to be negative. Our point is that you haven't developed anything in reality. Just editing a properties in a file isn't developing, but it does take some knowledge to know what you are going to edit . Nonetheless, you are trying to become the greatest developer, but really you are in the 1st chapter of your C Programming book. It's going to take you maybe another 3 - 5 books to actually understand what's happening. Instead of striving to become the "Greatest" developer, why not focus on just becoming a developer at first

[IDEA] I've had an idea for our phones [IDEA]

Hey all,
I'm not trying to force the Devs into anything, or try to pressure them, I've simply opened this thread to see who thinks that it would be a good idea, if anyone is offended by this post, or thinks that they should try to flame me for it, then basically, you can get F****d. I've got a lot of respect for the Developers of the Galaxy SII and I know and beleive that they have the right to both their own opinions and their own choice.
I was looking through Samsung Galaxy S III section of this forum, to see what's going on around there and in the development section members were talking about how the developers of the HTC HD2 all came together and built ROMs as a team and ported Android and Windows Phone 7 OS together.
(Post Here)
Basically, what I was thinking, is why don't WE do that? have all or some of our developers work as a team to create something amazing? I know it's a long shot, but I think if it were to happen then I don't personally think that there will be many things that our phones won't be able to do.
If you guys could just post or vote on the poll with your thoughts/queries, I'd really appreciate it so I can get an idea of just how many people think it'd be something that we should or shouldn't do!
Thanks alot

It a poll to tell the Developers to DO anything or give anybody any hope, as the opening post says, I just wanted to see how many people thought that it would be a good idea, not because I want to force any of this in the Devs faces, if they want to do it then I personally would love it, but like I said, I'm not trying to push them into anything, I have simply opened the post for my own purpose to see how many people think it would or wouldn't be a good idea

I get that, I'm not dumb.
Btw, you may have omitted a "not" in the first sentence, unless you really are telling the devs what to "DO" (your capitals..).
My point is that since you're not telling the devs to do anything, what does the poll achieve?
For example, 300 people think it's a good idea. Then what? The same if 300 people say it's a terrible idea - so what?
As jj said, the devs decide, and they rarely post on this sub-forum.
A better idea would be for you to learn how to code & then either develop the things you'd like to see for the SGS2 yourself/with other developers in one of these 'teams', or link up with current devs & work on the projects they're currently involved with.
any devs that want to work together are doing so or are free to do so.
Yea its an idea but more one for those moments where you're sitting on the sofa scratching your balls, not for making a thread about

How about a poll?
"How often do you think about your phone when scratching your balls?"
Always, I have no life.
Sometimes, I have no girlfriend
Rarely, my balls don't itch
Never, I have no balls because I'm female/a Manchester United fan
I have no girlfriend & I have a severe fungal infection on my scrotum which makes my balls itch incessantly. As a result, I scratch them quite frequently. Interestingly enough, I seem to be thinking of my phone whilst temporarily relieving the prickliness most of the time.
Scratched my balls while reading the above two posts(true story)

How about assisting villian for B2G first I say. Then see if we can port other stuff. I am not sure on what the request is here anyway? Is it to port SGSIII firmware to SGSII or another OS to SGSII?
Confused ....its late I should be asleep lol
Akhm, you can't scratch balls. The only thing you can do when itching is to pinch the itching area . Sorry for bad english

FESM | Free Exynos Sources Movement

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We all know how hard it is for developers as codeworkx, Entropy512, and XpLoDWilD to work on Exynos devices such as the I9300 Galaxy S III. The reason for this difficulty is the lack of proper sources & documentation for the Exynos SoC. What Samsung release is kernel source, and a few parts of the platform source that aren't actually modified or really critical. The goal of this thread is to convince Samsung to release the needed sources & documentation for the Exynos SoC!

Dear Samsung,
A great device becomes GREAT only when software truly compliments the hardware. We, the development community, are striving very hard to achieve that objective. Many users of Samsung Galaxy S3 and other Exynos based devices want to make the phones released by Samsung truly inspirational and surpass any competition. This powerhouse will achieve its true potential only when the development community get the source documentation regarding the hardware components such as the resource libraries pertaining to the Exynos SoC and Mali GPU.
It not only benefits the end user but will also be highly beneficial for Samsung in the long run, as these customers will then get utmost satisfaction with their device and will then help in the word-of-mouth publicity of Samsung products.
A truly inspirational product is born when it inspires the masses and is able to mesmerize the entire world. With Samsung Galaxy S3, we are witnessing a paradigm shift in the mobile industry and need your little help in making this turning point even more monumental.
We hope we will not be disappointed by a customer centric company like yours.
Warm regards,
A true Samsung fan

Correct, nobody is getting hurt and nobody will lose any sleep over it at Samsung......but it might just get them talking about it. If you keep doing this for long enough, they will at least issue a response. If that response is "you can have it soon, but not now" then fine, at least we know. But the dev's have all contacted Samsung in Korea and been given either a bum-steer or a point-blank NO!
We are only being the equivalent of a fly that is flying around your head. If you want it to go away, you swat it, spray it, or open the door and let it on its merry way.
Marketing people hate negativity. They want a positive platform to work on - not people posting arguments as to why not to buy their products. They can delete the posts, and then we re-post them. Eventually we will get some form of response.
To those who disagree with this action, if there is another way, do let us in on it, and we'll all try it willingly no-doubt.

My name is Casey, in one week I'll be 21 and I'm from Canada. I'm currently using trickdroid but would be interested in beta testing. I've worked in cell phone sales for 2 years and this summer I'm doing app dev for a professor. I'm familiar with /system, not an expert but not new to me.
I'm 20 years old from London, England. I'll have a lot of free time soon as my last uni exam is coming up. I have rooted and flashed 1000's of roms in the past, you could call me a flashaholic What do you mean when you say familiar with the system partition. Are you taking about the system partition in root explorer? If so, then yes I have experience with with that.

Just, make a thoutful guess, what size do you think Blade for the HTC One is at?
Cheers

Looks like 300? Very slim Rom I like. Can't wait to flash when it's available lol.

I'm thinking of getting 1 or two developers too, since a few of you seem to be good developing

I actually wouldn't mind doing a bit of both. I'm doing application development this summer so I'll be up to speed with Java in a few weeks and if I had the chance to help with dev work I would love it

Wow I got in @[email protected] thanks!
Been waiting to get in for a long time, thanks very much!!
I'm in too but there doesn't appear to be any beta testing on with members and they just want to push HTC stuff on social media. A bit of a waste of time I think.

Yep that's the whole point of Elevate, at least currently they just want you to advertise HTC to social media by saying they give away stuff(not sure if someone actually got anything).
Seems that previously was beta tests but due to leaks to xda-developers they stopped it.
I myself joined in hope to get some early access stuff for myself I would not share outside of elevate forums =)

I will have done them a favor shielding them from being bombarded with HTC marketing crap for no discernable benefit. They are not missing out on anything in there imho.

I agree. I'm not too big into social media, but maybe I'll push something for a give away once in awhile. Even though they don't look too good lol. HTC gets a ton of free marketing in exchange for a pair of headphones
