Half-Life 2! Portal! - M.O.J.O. General

Just released to the Tegra Zone! When can we see this on the MOJO? Thoughts?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nvidia.valvesoftware.portal
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nvidia.valvesoftware.halflife2
Wait...Were they just released, or am I just noticing them because they were updated today?

They were announced at the end of last week. In the announcements it was stated as released for the Shield only for both. I'm sure at some point it will be available on other Tegra 4 devices.

Dang. That's what I get for not hitting my usual news sites in a month. Thanks for the heads up, though.

They were just release afaik. Someone needs to rip the APK and try it on the Mojo. Or, we need a way to spoof the Play Store into thinking the Mojo is a Shield. I'd buy it just to try I love Portal. I am sure it would work fine on the Mojo.

I have a ripped copy on my Nexus 7 flo, it crashes getting to the menu.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

I can confirm, HL2 is working on the TegraNote 7 with a MOGA Pro controller attached via Blutooth
Not working on Nexus 7 (2013) and Galaxy S5 (native and with GLTools).

has anyone tried it on a Tegra 3 Device? Ouya anyone?
Just ordered a Shield anyway but it won't arrive in the next 2-3 weeks. (Shipping from Hong Kong) ...

They ie.portal/half life 2 for tegra 4 are a waste of time for now on the mad catz m.o.j.o,they are not telling anyone next to the game icon on the list that they are only useable with android 4.4 kitkat, therefore i bet loads of these upcoming and current games are, also the shadowgun deadzone game i tried and says only for tegra 3 devices,it's a right @rse to list games but not tell you what they do/do not work on,bounty arms isn't working with the m.o.j.o controller either,so it does beg a big question that is why are mad catz selling the C.T.R.L as an android phone controller as a seperate item if the compatability is all but none existant in the current games, they really need to get to it and release 4.4 kitkat for the mad catz m.o.j.o and a controller compatability update to flash with software via the usb port under the batteres.

A friend of mine is supplying me with Portal from his Shied to test on the Mojo tonight. I will let you guys know if it works...I am very curious.

any chance for this to run on a non tegra device?
like the last hack made by chaineFIre wich was awesome and enabled me to run dead trigger at its full on my aging mali 400 :<
I really need to upgrade to a snaodragon 805,810 or an Nvidia K1:crying:
I really cant decide weather to get an Nvidia device or not since im in love with the galaxy note series but sadly they never come with tegra cpu's
maybe I should just get a vita and keep my n7100 for a long while since im in dire need for a gaming handheld
I wish somewhere in an alternate univers we get to see a note 4 with a k1 processor:cyclops:
but that will never happen lol

No, won't run on my snapdragon nexus 7.
From what if heard elsewhere you can't even install it unless you have KitKat.

running kitkat and no luck on mali 400 gpu
so surprisingly borderlands 2 gets ported to the vita but we cant run HL2 on a snapdragon 801 ?????
hmmm seems like a driver hack should do the trick

The problem is that Nvidia worked on it and optimized it for Tegra 4.
I'm not sure whether it performs just an GPU ID check or it actually does require Tegra 4-only features/extensions.
I don't think we can get it to work on other devices without a wrapper.

I tried Half Life 2 on my Tegra Note 7, but my game crashes when i try to load the first level.
The main menu works fine.
I am using an EVGA Tegra Note 7, Android 4.4.2 and a Xbox360 Controller.
Any tips?

Can anyone confirm if the crash is due to lack of RAM? Remember our Tegra Note 7s only come with 1 GB of RAM while the SHIELD and M.O.J.O come with 2 GB. It could be crashing because it couldn't load the entire level into memory.

Well half life 2 doesnt load maps like that. Its loads it section by sections so i seriously doubt they changed it for android to load the entire level that would require regretting alot of the engine. Online multiplayer games it will load the whole map but for the single player it did not thats why you got that loading bit while running or driving around.

Games look awesome on this & have yet to have any issues.
I'm currently playing FF3 & ME:I. I had to use a TiBU of ME:I to install though. Sadly, if you're a gamer, be smart & spend that extra $50 for the 16GB model. You won't regret it at all.
You have to be space conscious with a 8GB especially when you have to factor in your nandroids.

Onlive works really nicely on my Transformer Prime, so no reason it should be any different for the Nexus
I assume using the Onlive bluetooth controller will be fine?
although there are very few that have the nexus 7 right now, I'm wondering if those who have any kind of tablet have ever tried restoring a titanium backup of a game from their phone to a tablet. Is the apk vastly different due to screen size, or does it "adjust" itself for running on a tablet? It's not a deal breaker for me cuz I'm probably going to play tegra 3 games on the n7 but it would be nice to restore my mc3 or my mass effect which I currently have backed up on my EVO 4g LTE.

I have the Universal Controller and it works on my (now sold) Galaxy Table with Android 3.0 (HoneyComb). It also works on my friend's Galaxy Nexus with Android 4.0 (ICS), so theoretically it should work with 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
I've already bought Dead Trigger and have a list of Indie games to buy from the Play Store with my $25 credit as soon as my N7 arrives. I can't see how this tablet will be anything less than stellar running top games.

Best Device there is? fastest best ect?

whats the best android to buy, not bothered about budget as just sold my tablet to get one as i use in my room for downloading films and that, preferably one with 2 usbs so can you mouse and keyboard

that's what i have, just want to get JB on it.... didn't have time to play with yet, hopefully this weekend.
I have gk802. Gonna return it. Heat issues, laggy, no custom roms, usb does not work if not connected via ac adapter. Too many issues. I am going to wait fir Archos tv connect or get mk808b.
I have an MK808 and love it. It is super fast and handles games like a champ. I don't have the newer Bluetooth model and its killing me. I bought it for emulators (N64 and PSx) thinking I could use one of many USB-BT adapters I own. But none work.
So I'm stuck using a wired controller or a wireless 360 but I want to get the Sixaxis app setup and working with my PS3 controller.
My goal is to get 2 controllers setup for some Mario Mart 64 action.
The MK808B would fix this but it doesn't seem to be getting any dev love. The original MK808 that I have has several custom roms and development.
I'm thinking of maybe selling my MK808 and waiting. Bluetooth in these little sticks really seem flaky ATM across the board. I have 2 new USB BT sticks coming from china that supposedly work with the CM10 roms. Minus Bluetooth, the MK808 is great.
The GK802 looks good on paper and I almost picked one up but it really is having some issues with stuff. For a quad core... it has issues doing what the MK808 can do.
I might pick up my neighbors LG G2x Tegra 2 phone and just make it a dedicated TV unit.

We've got some roms over at armtvtech. A little custom with root and play store fix.(I've also got something special in the works heh)
I'm testing the usb fix right now.
We've also got full Ubuntu images.
The GK802/HI802 are a bit new atm. So please keep in mind that many people are just starting to receive them. It takes a little bit for people to get adjusted to a new system in order to make custom images.
I'd say that for the moment when it comes to custom roms the MK808 is king.
I expect the GK802 to take over the throne pretty quickly.

Any word on the mk809 II? I really want to het one of these devices but do not know which to chose. I did see the archos one and i do like the bulky remote for the use of the games. Are there any good game controllers to use with these devices for regular android games and emulators.
Which device is the best, fastest, and stable ?

I have several controllers that work. A corded SixAxis and a wireless 360 and a USB PC gamepad.
I heard the Archos is really bad... and in comparison to these Android sticks.... that's bad.
I have an MK808. I recommend the Bluetooth version for more options. Or the GK802. The MK808 plays every game I've thrown at it. I don't know how the GK802 plays but it should.

I have been following the progress on the development of these devices for a while and am glad to see prices have come down
it would be helpful if someone who knows could compile a table of the various models and specs. Atleast by the naming conventions and when they appeared on the marketplace, the hierarchy from high to low seems to be
MK809II-same as the 809 but has bluetooth?
MK809-?
MK808B-same as the 808 but has bluetooth?
MK808-Dual Core A9?
MK802-being the original A8 1 GHZ Single core version.

Gameloft games not supported

So I basically couldnt wait for the sheild to come out and I bought one only to find out that big gameloft titles like Modern combat 4, Nova 3 etc are not supported by the shiled controls :crying: why nvidia why, I would have thought that nvidia would have some kind of on screen mapping controls like archos gamepad but I was wrong, I hope soon that they will with some kind of software update because alot of ppl who bought this thing to play big Gameloft Tiltes are not happy plzzzzz nvidia fix this
Current devices:
Xperia tablet Z 4G LTE. (4.2.2 rooted on stock rom)
Xperia Z. (4.2.2 rooted on custom Rom monxDIFIED)
Galaxy S4. (4.2.2 rooted on omega Rom)
Galaxy Note 2. (4.3 CM10.2)
Nvidia Shield. (4.2.1 rooted stock Rom)
PlayStation Vita 3G & WiFi (collecting dust)
There are 3rd party apps that let you do that.
Also NVidia have no obligation to "fix" this when it isn't an advertised feature.
If anything the only people that have to fix things are gameloft themselves.

Just to let you know, Modern Combat 4 works just fine on the SHIELD. You can fire and ironsight with the R1/L1 buttons and sprint/crouch by pushing up or down twice on the left analog.
Try the Amazon App store, it's $6.99 there. The game runs very smooth and multiplayer works great as well.

Root your shield and download "Device Spoofer". This app does as it sounds and spoofs google play into thinking your shield is whatever you want it to be. This makes it so you are no longer limited to games available to only shield. I have chosen to spoof the system into thinking my shield is an Xperia Play. Now I have access to all Gameloft games on the Google Play Market.
I'm still testing controller support while spoofing though. Don't get too excited.

I went ahead and grabbed MC4 off Amazon App store...annoyed to have to buy again, but I was real curious about it working on the shield, and it does work well. The control mappings could be a bit better though, but maybe they are working it.
I also would like them to update Wild Blood - since I paid for that sometime ago but want to play it on my shield.
I wish they would quit releasing everything as freemium...I hope they DO NOT release MC5 as free to play.

drag down the top right notification and untick virtual mouse off, then it should work :good:
Think I found my first actual complaint with the shield and it's completely software related, possibly analog stick driver related. Could be corrected for in games, but after some testing all games are sort of struck by this.
You turn off mouse emulation and the analog stick movement in games is almost entirely static aside from the small zone in the center where you can make minor corrections. Movement hits "balls to the wall" max value very quickly IMO.
Nova 3 is brilliant with shield, a lot like a Halo 3 clone, I have spent many many many hours playing halo 3 so I was very excited. After playing for about 4-5 hours last night, one thing I could tell as being mostly different (aside from R bumper fire vs R trigger fire) was regardless of the sensitivity setting, the acceleration spectrum of the joystick isn't anywhere near the same.
You can turn down the look sensitivity and moving the stick quickly plateaued out on the speed you can look in any direction. You turn it up too high 3/5th-5/5th and it makes it impossible to make any kind of very sensitive minor correction. (no scopes) For me anyway, having it set to 1/5-2/5th sensitivity is perfect for the minor corrections in that game and getting those headshots with ease. But it makes making major corrections (looking behind you 180's) impractical. When playing on the xbox the more aggressive the stick movements the more it will accelerate your movement while still keeping minor corrections possible with minor movements. (I played halo 3 on 2/5th setting)
So, I went in and started checking other games, maybe it was just a problem with nova... and it's basically doing the same thing in every game. Spent a lot of time playing GTA 3 and same thing there as well. I didn't pick it up at first because for the other games I didn't have a good idea of "what right looked like" But other games like respawnables & shadowgun are sort of the same deal even though I didn't really have a point of reference for those.
I know it's not a simple thing to explain and ask for, and I bet a lot of people won't even notice it, or think it's just me. What is needed is the joystick equivalent to "mouse acceleration" in windows though.
EDIT: and there needs to be (or a bigger) deadzone in the center, that might actually fix both problems (push minor values outwards of the center some). I have found some analog stick ghost movements when my thumbs are off them.
I wouldn't mind trying order and chaos with controller support. If you use the device spoofer just to get the app downloaded then turn it off will the games run? The issue is mostly just getting them onto the device isn't it?

The spoofer is only needed for the play store, from that point onwards the app itself has very little it can do to prevent running on your device.

Working app moves games to sd card automaticaly for m.o.j.o

Found an app called GL to SD that works on the mad catz m.o.j.o,it automatically transfers your current games to the installed external sd card,i can verify that the space is regained when the apps are moved to the sd.It's a great app and it is free to download in the google play store, this should put an end to having to use folder mount and direct the app to the folders besides the fact folder mount did not work for me at all, another great thing is in the app when the games are mounted it has a play button next to them just click and play your games.I am unsure what will occur if you uninstall it and the space then used is above the space required to store the additional games you add to it?
If someone would like to test the theory what happens if games exceed the internal storage size when using GLto SD then you remove GL to SD app then please let me know the result of that test.
I'd like to say that before i used this app i had a mere 5.xgb left and now i have 9.7x gb left in the internal storage big smile

Not sure how many games you can add for free as noticed it has pro in the top right corner,so my guess is it may limit it to 2 games in free mode, just as you get in folder mount,i could be wrong for someone to teste this would be awesome. It's still good enough for me so far any way it has worked flawlessly with 2 games listed.

No, it works with multiple games. Pro version does not seem to add much more to the plate, but supports the developer. I have added 12 games. Not every game shows up on the list, but who cares. This saved me 10GB!
Edit: Pro version adds mount on boot and 100 custom slots. Not necessary to purchase, but I just did as I support devs who make good applications

That's some great news, but a little bad with the missing games although there's not much that helps with storage in terms of apps that can read the m.o.j.o well.So it's a major bonus to have such a fine app for it.
Careful with this app...there are some issues. I discovered tonight after moving a few games over that if you try to access your games before your HD is completely mounted (I rebooted and tried to launch a game before the HD was fully available) all mount settings revert back to the internal storage. In other words, no games would launch as they were looking once again at their original locations for installation. I tried to fix this in the app settings by re-pointing the games to their storage area on my HD, but the app would not allow navigation outside of the internal storage. Long story short I had to re-install my games. I probably could have copied the data and obb folders from my USB hd back to the internal storage, recovered game list and moved them again, but I got lazy and simply reinstalled the 6 or 7 games I moved previouslyy. That said, I think I'll stay away from this unless absolutely necessary, or until the dev fixes some bugs and provides a method to move items back AND forth to avoid any headaches.

There always seems to be a catch with the m.o.j.o in every way for me,the games for tegra 4 coming out in tegrazone now aren't compatible until kitkat 4.4 comes out for it either now.Found out shadowgun deadzone don't work says for tegra 3 devices only? It's getting to be a pain,i blame the os a bit and nvidia and mad catz for taking the [email protected] bringing kitkat onto the device. There doesn't seem any of the gaming to play when that's what it was designed for and sold for.
Now we have a problem with the only half decent storage moving app i could find for it,someone needs to make a bug free os for it or mad catz need telling straight to get kitkat out asap.As you can tell i'm venting my disgust. Thanks for letting us know about the app problem though it's good of you to test it.
What i'm prodominantly interested in right now is will a bluetooth headset use voice control on it? Or is that another feature we cannot use?

This app problem is just that...an app problem. I do not think this particular issue is specific to the Mojo. It is just want to app did to me when the drive was not fully mounted. It needs to not allow a game launch until it detects the hard drive and saved folders are there.
There were a few versions of Shadowgun. A Tegra 3 only version and a "non-Tegra" version. I recall I had to run the "Non-Tegra" version on my Ericsson Xperia Play (due to no Tegra chip in it) and it worked fine. Looked exactly the same actually Look for the non-Tegra vesion.
If the game is designed for one chip (like the "Tegra 3 only" games) it is not the fault of the Tegra 4 or Mojo that they will not load. The game devs should be less restricting with the blocking, but I guess they are scared people will buy Tegra only games, try to run them on a Rockchip or some other processor and they will not work and people will be asking for refunds in droves
Nvidia is of course making these Tegra 4 games "exclusive" to their device first and foremost...it is their store and processor anyway I am sure you will see these games available for a wider array of Tegra 4 devices...that is when you start seeing more Tegra 4 devices on the market. It is still relatively new.

I know it's pretty scarce at present for games i have to say that, but these newer games should be a stark warning to mad catz being as they are 4.4 kitkat only so surely they need to think about moving quicker with the impending update they promise to release.
I have just found no bluetooth headset works on it that i have can't fathom it out,on there forum they put plug in mic in headphone port tried a standalone mic as well in there but no reaction voice controll wise and no audio over bluetooth?

Cool list. You should contact Nvidia and all of these manufacturers individually and ask them why there are Tegra 4 Shield only exclusives, and why they have not been allowed to run on ALL of these alternate Tegra 4 devices. Thank you for helping to prove that this issue is not specifically a Mad Catz Mojo issue, but rather an issue of Tegra 4 supported games being opened up to other Tegra 4 devices.
Still, the fact is that Tegra 4 is still the most powerful chip on the market (don't start talking about Rockchips that have yet to be released please) and the Mojo is the most powerful set-top box available for purchase today. Point me to another (that IS available) and I am all ears. If you cannot do that, please stop hijacking threads with nonsense.
What was the purpose of your post? To point out that the Tegra 4 was not "brand new"? It is under a year old...I consider that new. I don't give a rats ass if you don't. The other chips out there currently are as old or older.
We are talking about Tegra 4 game support in this thread, so again, keep it on topic or simply go Guru meditate yourself.
And, it is "Amazon", not "Amazone". Please use your spell checker as you make these typing errors quite often.

Please don't say b*llsh*t the Tegra 4 is NOT still the most powerful chip on the market, the GPU in the Snapdragon 600 is as fast as the Tegra 4, just
look at all the benchmarks out there, and the Snapdragon 800 and 801 is faster then the Tegra 4, so please don't tell fairy tales that the Tegra 4 is a Über

And the Mad Catz M.O.J.O. set-top box is not the fastes available for purchase today, because the Amazon Fire Tv is about as fast as the Mad Catz

No, no, no. I am very sorry. You are not convincing anybody...and you are not staying on topic.
While you are at it (ruining threads that is), why don't you tell people what the downsides of the FireTV are:
1. Proprietary custom android. Forget Playstore..you can't get it!
2. No root!
3. No sideloading!
4. No keyboard support!
5. Sub par performance compared to Tegra 4!
6. No support for Tegra accelerated games (no Tegra!)
You were probably the guy who told everyone to buy a Radio Shack Coco3 at the height of the C64 era. Go away now.

Here is a link to the Mojo for you to repurchase it:
http://www.amazon.com/M-O-J-O-Micro-Console-Android-Not-Machine-Specific/dp/B00FM5IS48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400013378&sr=8-1&keywords=mad+catz+mojo
Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you repurchased it after talking so much smack.
I have to say if you look at the time it took for large numbers of games to emerge on the tegra 3 specifically for a tegra 3,well then it is absolutely no surprise that it appears the same is happening with the tegra 4.It does take time,i am for one loosing patience but i am sitting here waiting none the less although i have to say venting about it as well, lol.
So it's i think more a case of kitkat fixes a lot like for shield and i am assuming with the m.o.j.o,and maybe that is why they are taking their time, not to mention the ouya everywhere project,i imagine it's going to be in preperation for a huge update which may introduce better controller compatability as well i hope it does any way we need that big time to.

I just got a new Shield tablet, what are the first things I should do?

Hey guys,
First of all, Im a new proud owner of the LTE 32GB Shield Tablet with the Nvidia controller after watching some youtube videos.
I was such a noob that while I was searching the web, I kept getting Nvidia Shiled and Nvidia Shield tablet confused! I didnt realize that their names were so similar which made searching for Roms compatibility a bit difficult.
Some of things I noticed:
1. updated to lollipop right away after I turned it on and deleted FB app and instagram app (just in case) from what I read here. Feels snappy enough that I dont think I need to do a factory reset.
2. Tried several of my App games but many didnt recognize the controller. Bummer.
-Need for speed hot pursuit didnt
-MC4 right analog wont turn my head so its impossible to aim
3. Installed PPSSPP so far the best emulator so far on the tablet. The aspect ratio seems to be very similar to PSP so it makes sense.
4. Snes 9x is good for the SNES roms but I dont know what happened to that other SNES emulator that I downloaded many months ago but no longer appears under my account. I forget the name of it but it was way better than this SNES 9x emulator.
5. Great overall tablet. A bit on the heavy side. Power button is probably the worst I've ever experienced. However, once I get the case, Im sure I wont need it as much.
6. I have a library of games on steam but disappointed that I have to rebuy half life 2 and portal to play it on my tablet.
7. Lack of library games on the Nvidia Hub.
Questions:
1. Do you guys keep your tab on at all times or do you turn it off at night?
2. Are there other android games I can use the controller with? If so, how do I get it so the buttons are configured correctly?
Thank you so much!
First thing? Buy the cover, it's awesome. There's magnets in it so it does't flop around open or closed and when you prop it up, the magnets hold the wedge in place.
But yea the power button sucks. First thing I did was upgrade to Lollipop then second thing I did was downgrade to Kitkat lol. No xposed and the single notification pull down were the deal breakers.
Haven't tried too much gaming but I do keep mine on at night, it's my alarm clock. Battery is great for me, my thing says I'm good for 5.5 hours use of battery and 5 days of standby.
Root it of course too There's a volume mod I found somewhere, for me Netflix is very quiet. Plus you need to unlock write privileges for the SD card.
64/128 gb SD card obviously too.

If you are in kitat and rooted (towelroot, easy...), I use:

I think Lollipop needs to mature, so I will wait to 5.0.1, I hope soon...
You should never root a device as soon as you get it. Wait a few days first to make sure everything works before you start tinkering.
I rooted my device as soon as it was powered on. I get your point but without root I don't have much use for the tablet

Same here but in the case of the Nvidia Shiled, I chose to suffer a bit to wait out any issues that might come up before rooting it.

Reasons for rooting vary. For this Tablet these are the things I needed root for so far
Using titanium backup to restore app data for games my kids play
Installing modified file to allow my ouya controller to pair and have buttons mapped
Installing folder mount to fix writing to external sd and move allot of my larger game files to external which is 64gb vs 16 internal. I would already be over my internal capacity without this
In the future if nvidia leaves issues in firmware that a developer here can fix it is nice to be able to have the freedom to try

2. Are there other android games I can use the controller with? If so, how do I get it so the buttons are configured correctly?
Thank you so much!

Hey guys,
First of all, Im a new proud owner of the LTE 32GB Shield Tablet with the Nvidia controller after watching some youtube videos.

How did you upgrade right after getting it??? I'm not being prompted for a system update and it tells me there are no further updates and developers.nvidia.com doesn't even have them posted...
I got Lollipop on day #1 ...which for me was back in November. 5.0 has been out for a while...
<Edit>
... That being said ... oh gawd I miss KitKat. Lollipop was a laughable upgrade. I don't see any major performance improvement. The single notification is a mess. Memory management seems worse. And I hate to say it but I miss xposed.
I don't feel like the tablet is my own anymore. Google has made the experience just so generic. Kind of Apple-ish. Maybe if they are ever able to port xposed to ART, it'd be better. I don't know why, but somehow, I doubt it's going to happen.
I'll probably downgrade again soon, but don't know that nvidia will continue to support KitKat anymore.

Some apps (Tasker, Titanium Backup, etc) require root.
Having root also allows you to uninstall the bloatware that eats up the storage you paid for.
"Because I can" is a valid answer as well. If you can't root it, you don't own it.
Get yourself a controller mount ASAP and you will love the tablet.

Do you have a recommendation?
Art blows dalvik away in performance gains. I like the new drop down. But I have been using lollipop since June. I just got this thing today and the thing runs circles around the nexus 9. The big thing lollipop brings is a ton more security checks.

The Ipega http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OZEO576/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is amazing and since it can do both orientations it wins every time. However if you got the offical controller there is always http://www.shapeways.com/model/2843...controller.html?li=shop-results&materialId=25 which fit perfectly and does a very good job but will only hold it in widescreen which makes it a bit weird to do DS games on it.

Thanks!
I've seen the Shapeways one and have almost bought it in a couple occasions but it seems like the weight of the tablet would be uncomfortable with it being so far on top. The Ipega one looks interesting. I like my Shield controller though. How does the controller portion compare?
