Quad Core devices are already available
i own an mk802III and i'm very happy with it. for what i read rikomagic is the most reliable company providing updates and solving bugs... i just hope that some dev will put some interest into it...

I've just got the mk809 , no trouble with wifi my router is in another room and I get good signal., device is quick and paired with my Logitech k400 wireless keyboard it make a great combination.

I have an MK808 and love it. It is super fast and handles games like a champ. I don't have the newer Bluetooth model and its killing me. I bought it for emulators (N64 and PSx) thinking I could use one of many USB-BT adapters I own. But none work.
So I'm stuck using a wired controller or a wireless 360 but I want to get the Sixaxis app setup and working with my PS3 controller.
My goal is to get 2 controllers setup for some Mario Mart 64 action.
The MK808B would fix this but it doesn't seem to be getting any dev love. The original MK808 that I have has several custom roms and development.
I'm thinking of maybe selling my MK808 and waiting. Bluetooth in these little sticks really seem flaky ATM across the board. I have 2 new USB BT sticks coming from china that supposedly work with the CM10 roms. Minus Bluetooth, the MK808 is great.
The GK802 looks good on paper and I almost picked one up but it really is having some issues with stuff. For a quad core... it has issues doing what the MK808 can do.
I might pick up my neighbors LG G2x Tegra 2 phone and just make it a dedicated TV unit.

We've got some roms over at armtvtech. A little custom with root and play store fix.(I've also got something special in the works heh)
I'm testing the usb fix right now.
We've also got full Ubuntu images.
The GK802/HI802 are a bit new atm. So please keep in mind that many people are just starting to receive them. It takes a little bit for people to get adjusted to a new system in order to make custom images.
I'd say that for the moment when it comes to custom roms the MK808 is king.
I expect the GK802 to take over the throne pretty quickly.

Any word on the mk809 II? I really want to het one of these devices but do not know which to chose. I did see the archos one and i do like the bulky remote for the use of the games. Are there any good game controllers to use with these devices for regular android games and emulators.

I have several controllers that work. A corded SixAxis and a wireless 360 and a USB PC gamepad.
I heard the Archos is really bad... and in comparison to these Android sticks.... that's bad.
I have an MK808. I recommend the Bluetooth version for more options. Or the GK802. The MK808 plays every game I've thrown at it. I don't know how the GK802 plays but it should.

There is no logic to their numbering schemes. The MK808 is getting lots of love and the 808b is following suit. Look at the forum traffic and pick.

I see that mk808 is very popular, but it seems to have a lot of glitches, especially with the wifi. thats what really holding me back in general. I am still debating if I should go with the 808 or 809 yikes!

Yh I know what you're taking about , the USB drives are trending nowadays but I hardly can figure out a reason for them with 1.0 Ghz and 512 ddr2 ram which I believe is the maximum specifacion those USB form factor can go. They’re limited to arm instruction set , which means arm software and not x86
so nothing will work instead of android , however I have heard of Ubuntu ARM port.But I believe installing Ubuntu or any other Linux on that USB will be hard to implement
and I think after you install ubuntu you can customize it to make it more like XBMC

I think it looks awesome even compared with the $25 Raspberry Pi's out there. I'd like to get one, but then again I can use my GS2 for just about everything I need and it'll have more power. It'd be good to have one of these little guys in case I went to someone's house for a weekend or on vacation and needed a basic PC to browse internet, etc.

I have been looking at cstick as well, but the lack of information makes me consider it a dead project.
I have ordered a Tizzbird N1, which is more focused on being a media player but will have Google Market (with custom firmware) and the possibility to run apps.

i'm also using the mk802.. had it for about 2 weeks now. didn't do much with it other then install XBMC for android on it. and a few pluging to stream my movies and shows. it gets laggy at times

Thats a really good price considering they give you some nice accessories to go with it. You could attach it to a monitor and keyboard/mouse and have a really cheap thin client desktop running Android.

Decided to go ahead and get 2 of these. Basically give someone a cheap computer for mostly browsing and email. Very portable.
There are some bad reviews online with that seller, they say do not purchase from them and they are affiliated with some other stores bad stores as well.

Personally I've not had any problems with geekbuying.com, but as always if you're not comfortable then don't order from them.
You're more likely to get what's described from them than you are from a random aliexpress seller.
IMHO many bad reviews for chinese sellers are for cheap tablets. People expect way too much out of those tablets.
I bought a wireless mouse/keyboard which is recommended with it and it worked at first but the mk802 won't see it now. I've also tried 3 or 4 wireless mice with most not working. Is that normal?

just got my 2 today. a first there was a wifi lag problem but after fixing that everything working great. youtube and netflix working perfect. would be nice to have bluetooth on this but other then that it would just fine. also they sent me my order twice so instead of just getting 2 I got 4 of these for $75. Was $80 but use the $5 code. so 4 of these for $75 can't beat. 1 for my mom; 2 for the kids and 1 for me. Saved me form having to buy tablets.

just loaded jellybean on this thing and it's great. out the box everything works great but don't expect much of a wifi strenght from this thing. Most phones have a much better range. After putting jellybean on it definitely worth it. Smoother, more responsive; more options. no change in netflix but much more control in youtube.

Can anyone tell me if IP can works full screen on this ?

Very easy. From everything I ever had to root and flash this was very very simple. I did the first one and my 10yo daughter did 2 of the other ones. Takes around 5min from start to boot.

Yes you can use a usb mouse and key board or use a bluetooth dongle and use bluetooth which is what I'm doing now. So far the only problem I've seen with this thing is the range from the router. My phones and tablets and computer have a much larger range then this.

Makes sense, its hard to fit a decent sized antenna in there, and at $40 I doubt the money is spent engineering a great antenna setup like inside phones. There are USB to ethernet adapters out there that work with Android, I wonder if external USB wireless adapters would work.

If you update the FW dont flash the MK809II Firmware onto the MK809. TV-Dongle runs but some important functions will not work anymore.
Have just tested it to see if i can get Bluetooth support for my MicroBluetooth dongle.
- Antutu 3.0.3 result without tweaking or overclocking: 7983 points
- Controlled by a mini Keyboard Rii mini i8 or the MK802iii remote client app from the PlayStore.
- Runs with my phone charger 5V/1A without problems. But to be on the safe side i also bought an extra 5V/2A power supply for 8bucks.
- Quickly rootable with Zhoudashi tool.
- MX Player shows all FullHD test-vids i tested from blender.org smoothly (Sintel / Tears of Steel)
Resolution 1920/1080/60 using MX players new HW Decoder. Using HW+ i had system freezes causing me to power off the system.
- Cant say anything about digital audio output due to missing equipment. But check the MK809II thread, there is a discussion ongoing.
- Connected devices using a passive usb-hub: 1TB HDD, 16GB Key, RF-Keyboard, USB Gamepad
For sure you can find more custom roms out there for other models, like the MK808.
I also cant say anything about the MK808 but for my needs (as a PC-replacement connected to a big screen ) the MK809 serves perfect.

i got the MK809 with 4GB. (Model HTC-T002-V0).
4GB is the only limitation so far. I already started using Apps2SD. Bluetooth would also be a nice option.
I have a 2nd MK809 Dongle here (same model) which has some glitches on the HDMI output. I will use this one to play around with Finless ROM and will try to get my USB-DVB-C running. But i will lose WiFi i think due to missing RTL8188 support.
Will report later.

Finless is just tweaked with some cool features and prerooted.

it helps that the finless rom is rooted because a lot of the best adblocking software available is for rooted models only. it also means you can use titanium backup to drop any of the stock programs you won't ever use either.
it also gives you significantly more space for apps - i have 2gb free now, where I had ( i think ) about 500mb free with the stock rom

I have the mk808b Bluetooth model and it works great.
I've read somewhere that it has a different Wifi chip compared to the mk808 and I haven't experienced any problems with poor Wifi. I've got my router in a different room some 8 m away and behind concrete walls and a steel cabinet, still some 70-80% signal.
It came pre rooted so all I had to do when I got it was to add my Gmail account and I was good to go.
No heat issues, it gets no warmer than my phone while watching movies and during normal play it's just a bit over room temperature.
I use a Logitech K400 keyboard with the tiny receiver plugged right into the mk808b 's USB port.
It's been running for 3 days now and no glitches what so ever. Only complaint is that Google Currents is impossible to read, the text is ridiculously small, but that's not the mk808b' s fault
I got the mk808b since I wanted Bluetooth and it was cheaper than the others.

I think MK809 is best.
As mentioned previously i now flashed the Finless ROM 1.7 onto my 2nd MK809.
I works perfectly, from what i saw until now.
I have the HTC-T002-V0 PCB with RTL8188EUS WIFI. I have no issues. The WIFI runs like before. Fast and stable.
I am using the CPU1272 Kernel which is a little bit overclocked.

I just bought one of these, and I love it so far!! I was wondering about loading Linux on to this..I know you can load a version of Ubuntu on to arm processors... Will it work for this?

This is good to know, I have been debating on whether or not to purchase the mk808 due to wifi problems. I didn't even know there was an mk809 available.

Haven't found a setting or player yet that can do this.

Yea i dunno. I got excited about the dual core Cortex A9 CPU until i read the tech specs and it isn't a Cortex but an Allwinner which is meh. I love how it says 1.6 CPU then the specs say different.
The external antenna and Bluetooth is nice but I'd stay away. The different chip probably means little to no dev support.

Flash runs great on the MK808 which are the same thing as the 809s I believe, just with Bluetooth.
Ubuntu is coming but I don't see much of it. These guys run Android pretty good and I'd stick with it. Android is much better geared at this stuff and the apps look great on a TV.

I have a micro usb to HDMI adapter, I think its a MHL plug. However it doesn't fit.
The Nexus 7 does not support HDMI, MHL, or any type of direct connect video out, period. The microUSB port can be used for USB OTG duties: keyboards, mice, USB Flash memory devices, even USB hard drives if necessary, but not any form of video output.

The PCI express lane is located near the sata 3gbs port, unfortunately Google didn't give us any 6gbs ports, really sucks because I wanted to use an SSD.

Actually I did, I've been eyeing the Nexus 7 for a couple of months, reading up on it and looking at reviews. However I never read about HDMI out on it until it occurred to me today.
A reasonable question posted on XDA sometimes receives snarky responses. Not all of them are with ill intent, but this (XDA forums) isn't the most friendly environment. That little ribbing was quite nice though
Just get a MK802 and flash CyanogenMod on it.
You could use a custom rom like the Android transporter to mirror ur nexus 7 to a screen.

same happened to me. i bought it right after watching the keynote this guy mirroring the device... too bad i dont know how he did it !!!!!!! .. money back!!!

Well that's quite interesting and I'll be the first to admit when I'm apparently wrong - I'd never seen that video before but it is quite obvious there's some video out going on, and even if it's just mirroring it would still be better than the "nothing" we currently have with the N7. Hell, my laptop has a 1280x800 screen in it so it's a perfect match when I remote in with the N7 anyway... would be nice to do things the other way around.

After watching that full intro video I'm suspecting what they had there was a modified Nexus 7 just for that capability, aka a demo testing unit, but who knows what's possible at this point.
I'd suspect if Google has intentions of a new Nexus 7 "upgraded version" sometime this year - that's the big hope, of course - that perhaps we'll see some extra goodies thrown in for good measure.
But when you really take the big view of things I don't think we'll see a Nexus 7 updated with a) any form of expandable storage (sadly), b) a back camera, c) a video/MHL/HDMI capable output, and d) a change in screen resolution.
If you watch that intro video they are very specific and precise in stating they wanted to make a "perfect content consumption device" and if all you do with the Nexus 7 is "consume content" that means it's going to remain basically as it is right now, perhaps with optional models for more storage (64GB will probably be the max), and they may even stick with Nvidia for a Tegra 4 version, I don't know but I can speculate pretty readily given what we do know from the current 1st gen Nexus 7 models and what Nvidia has announc--errr, leaked about the Tegra 4 so far.
Yes, I do love this tablet, but also yes I wish it did just a tiny bit more in some respects like the ones I pointed out above. I wish the dock pins supported actual data transfer instead of just being charge-and-audio-out capable, but that's just me I suppose.
Regardless, considering I paid $25 for this Nexus 7 of mine, believe me I'm one damned happy camper these days, especially with 4.2.2 now out and battery life even better on the stock kernel if I want it.

They could mirror their nexus 7 display because it had hdmi out on their unit. They didn't add this feature on the nexus 7 because this would raise the price of the nexus 7.

MK808 is much faster. Highly recommended! Plays games like a boss.
However there is no video out capabilities on the N7 in a last ditch effort to shave off costs.
They are working on wifi streaming... but nothing yet.

Ok so im completely new to this and would love to get an Android stick or box for the living room 50 inch TV to stream mainly netflix.
Theres just so many choices!
Im just looking for a good reliable smooth HD playback on Netflix and also playing HD from external HDD would be needed.
Budget is around $80 £60 70Euro
Ive noticed a CX919 that seems good but is there a better, newer stick just released?

Why you don't choose TVBox instead of Stick, you'll have much more options and better performance.
I can advice you to CS968 / CR11s (Both same), the price about of 65 euro.
Internal camera is not awesome but enough for skype with good light ambiance.
Ofcourse there are other models but I recommend you to choose a RK3188 based device with 2 gigs of ram.
Atleast, CS968 has a few firmware sources.

No, not at all, even same chipset based devices might be slight different than each other, it depends on pcb called REFERENCE BOARD, which released mostly by manufacturer or company self.
Aftermarket manufacturers generally uses that referenceboard for their devices.
And the brands and models:
Actually, there are not many particular brands, only a few may be more.
But as far as I know only Minix provides regularly(!) firmwares and sources for their devices, but they are much expensiver than CS968 like devices.
Of course you can find a firmware for other devices, for CS968 there is Cloudnet and sometimes other sources.

I have it, and for me it is best tvbox at the market rightnow, performance is similar or even better than Tegra3 devices.
I can play a few games with my ps3 controller (aftermarket one) wirelessly, even emulator games, 40 mbps video from network drive is very well and also has native 1080p support.
Itsn't an ultimate device but meets basic (means not simple) principles of a Multimedia center.
I also modded a firmware for this one (2 mpx version).
But...
I can not say to you to go for anything, because everyone has different expectations and view, its your choice.

If you intent on using the mini PC for video chat, Minix Neo X7 doesn't work properly at the moment. Hangouts doesn't work at all for video. Skype works some times. Lot of people have complained on Minix forum, but they always say that it is a Skype issue.
There are some android boxes now with miracast and I think you can link t.r phone to it? Has anyone here tested one of those?

Does it play 1080p mkv perfectly?
I'm having issues with another rock quad core w/ mali 400, the framerate is a little low from usual, around 18fps, enough for the eye to notice.

Outside xbmc it plays 1080p perfectly using the stock video player, mx player, bs player and many third party players

Does this still mean there is no currently available Android TV Box or stick that plays true 1080P flawlessly (and with 24Hz support) from XBMC?
Many boxes claim 1080P but render using a 720P framebuffer.

I believe that only tv boxes with amlogic mx chips play 1080p flawlessly via xbmc.
Maybe allwinner a10 can do this too

The Amlogic MX boxes I have seen still output 720P. I don't know about the Allwinner A10 but would be thrilled if anyone could point to a specific known box that properly does 1080P... I still don't think one exists with Android.

How to use Netflix outside U.S

I am a Minix Neo X7 owner since august. So far, their support during the last 4 months has done a good job, the device is way more stable and the Freaktab community has put a good research on it. I personally use a custom finless rom with slightly overclocked parameters, and the device is rock solid, however, no matter what RK3188 device you will choose, you are going to face loads of problems. Unless you are not willing to actually help yourself with the community, there is no way your are going to be happy with it, just the fact that it has a Quad-Core CPU and 2GB RAM makes you notice that it doesnt feel like it's a turbo machine, any phone with similar specs rocks in performance, my X7 beats the Note 2 in Antutu, yet some alpha effects from custom launchers lag the soul out of it.
The real problem however is RockChip, their main market is cheap tablets and they are not giving much a damn for the TV section. They havent updated their TV SDK for quite a while, and as i read, whatever source is out there, it is ICS old ported somehow to JB, probably just to convince people like me and you to go for a 4.2 device, or like 4.1 a few months before.
Just recently a KitKat test rom was made public by a manufacturer who uses RK chips, and the kernel still dates back to ICS, 3.0.36. I remember 4.2/4.3 were released with a 3.4 kernel. I personally have no idea what those versions mean, all i know is that outdated code is being used, note sure how i can judge here but somebody else hopefully will explain that to us better.
Few things i have learned at Freaktab and i must point out, the X7 has loads of overclocked options availabile to flash due to the fact that the devs doubt the device itself is underclocked from Minix. Apparently the RAM is 800 mhz, and it is underclocked to 400 by default, based on chip readings. The CPU can handle 1.8 without a problem, but 1.6 is enough, the problem is, its lowest state, Minix leaves it to 300mhz, custom roms gain performance by leaving the minimum freq to 1200, which i found to be a game changer.
There are ways to squeeze the device, and dont feel bad about it cause it has performant guts, i personally think have hit a solid device when i got it, but there are people reporting the X7 just dying.
My Setup is as follows, X7 with a Logitech K400 keyboard that recognizes the touchpad as a mouse, connected to a LED TV, i have routed the sound strictly to the Headphone jack since i prefer Stereo AVRs, excluding the network connectivity, thats about it, you'll enjoy the device like this with no major problems, BUT people who insisit having DD or DTS output through new AV Receivers, you will face some problems "passthroughing" them.
If these devices dont shine until the next 4 months to their full capabilites, i dont see a point investing on one, but right now, they are all the same, all that differs is support and community attention.
