what is FM Radio functioning??? Is this the radio sprint offers? Or is it a FM transmitter inside the phone???

where is there a FM radio?

NextRadio app can pick up FM using headset cable as antenna. Built right in.

I have been reading in other threads that all GS5s have the FM 'on the chip'...
It is mechanically disabled (shorted on circuit board) on every variant EXCEPT SPRINT.

This is something I missed having on the S4. Didn't make sense to leave it off. Glad it is back. They must of had some complaints maybe?

Oh you mean that app I uninstalled immediately having no idea what it did? Ha. reinstalled. Great news! Thanks for this thread. :highfive:

Wow, that's.....interesting! Wonder why Sprint wouldn't tell us the phone can pickup FM? Or for that matter why would the other carriers remove that function? Seems odd...

NextRadio!!!!!
Just downloaded NextRadio app from the play store. Turned OFF my wifi and data and the app worked with no issues. Thought it was gonna be some internet based app but it work solely on the the FM transmitter. SWEET!!!!

Whoa! Is this absolutely certain?
Why would other carriers remove this?
Maybe it interferes with their data reception?
This requires further investigation.
I do like that we're regaining full use of the Galaxy S5, despite attempts from the carriers to opress us, at least with Sprint.

I know this is is a few months old but I cannot get my rooted 900P's FM receiver to work.
I emailed next radio and the guy said there have been some problems with rooted GS5's being able to access the reciever.
Any one have any input/solutions?

Stock rom ? did you install any headset volume mods ?

I was looking through the CSC codes and ETC codes and noticed that there is a line on the SPR(sprint) xml that has the Samsung FM app blocked, I downloaded the international S5 fm radio apk and installed it but to no avail.

Stock rom, "The_Governaa_v0.2" kernel, and "s5 volume boost''

Sweeeeeeet! Moar 1.1, installed NextRadio and voila, FM Radio for those times when signal in gym is ish and I am stuck not being able to listen to anything decent!

Well I just did the ne5 firmware update today and re-rooted and now FM antenna is working perfect

I know this sounds lame and maybe off the topic but anyway to use AM radio frequencies on the gs5? I like to listen to midday baseball at work. Thanks

Fm Radio: Yes or Not ?

Why in technical specs of Galaxy S4 fm radio is not onboard? In future i'll hope to see it
Good question. I did not see anything mentioned of an FM receiver. It would be weird if they included stuff like an RF blaster, temperature gages, and more but not the ability to receive FM frequencies. If I find any info to confirm or deny this, I will share it on this thread for you
No

3's showing a fm radio
My first reaction was WHAT! NO FM Radio ...!
But to be honest I have never ever listen to FM Radio on my S2.
I use Internet Radio, so no big loss for me if it turns out that S4 dosn't have one

They copied it from apple, no FM radio..its not a good sign, for me it's one of the basic feature that any smartphone should have inbuilt. .external Internet radio app is a different issue all together!

[Q] Included Headphones for VZW G2?

This is going to sound like a dumb question, but does the VZW variant come with a pair of headphones? Mine didn't, and when I Google it, it seems to suggest that LG was bundling headphones with its devices. I just wanted to make sure I didn't lose them somehow when I was transporting my phone from the store.

App request: Xfinity TV Go app that works with T-Mobile 4G

Like the title says, trying to use my T-Mobile Note 3 to stream movies via Xfinity app but apparently only Verizon users have this privlage. That's pretty messed up, may drop Comcast if I don't find a solution. Is there some kind of FCC rule against this kind of thing?

Would love to see if there is an old app that works before an update or if there is a hack to trick fake wifi over 4g
Ohhhhh man.. same here bro. . I have att now and my note 3 will not stream on 3/4g like it did on verizon. I am using Android tuner to adjust permissions to see if I can get it to work. Will report back

S7 got FM Radio

T mobile S7 got FM Radio support via a software update. So this confirms the theory that the hardware is disabled for no reason and can be activated. Hope the S6 get its FM radio chip activated: http://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_s7_a...mobile_brings_fm_radio_support-news-18089.php

It's likely that the update simply enables the chip, but you have to use another app to actually listen to it.
Something like NextRadio

FM radio

On the point of buying S7. I really need FM radio. I saw that there was an update that enabled this.
Was that all models? Otherwise what to look for when buying (shop assistants are clueless)
Thanks

My S7 Edge (SM-G935A) receives FM radio using an app from the Play Store, NextRadio. You have to plug in earphones because the wire serves as an FM antenna (but you can listen over either the speaker or the earphones).
The SM-G935A has FM due to the Snapdragon SoC but is disabled by software (and thus there should be hacks to circumvent that), however, Exynos devices (e.g. SM-G935F) have no FM chip included and will never be able to listen to the good old radio.
I don't know about this.
Hi, ok, thanks guys.
have done some more reading and the update was official Samsung, not hack.
Pretty sure now its only Snapdragon that has the feature.
Back to shop around to check actual model numbers.

Oh, yeah, you may be right. Some time ago I've seen a FM app by Samsung, however, it did not work on Exynos.
