hey guys .. my current milestone is totally fcked so i need to buy a new one ..
i came across this as an option .. i had sgs2 in my sights but its atleast $230USD more than samsung google nexus s in my country ( india ) ..
so i wanted to know is it a good buy ? .. even with the competion around are there better options ? r u guys happy with this phone ??
hows the battery gaming performance of the phone .. please any answers will b really appreciated .. thnx
You love this phone or you hate it. I can't really tell you why you should buy it now, but I can tell you why I think the Nexus S is great:
- It does everything great. Not perfect, just great. The phone works, let me put it that way. This is something you won't realise your first week. If you don't get what I mean: I totally agree with this blog
- It is unique. No one has it, that's for sure. The slick curved design, the fact that there's almost no text (at least not on the front), as little connections on the sides as possible: all good choices IMO. For me, this makes it not just another smartphone. If people ask what kind of phone it is, I don't even tell them the real name. I just say: a Samsung, with Android. People see it as Androyed's phone.
- I would NEVER, NEVER buy another smartphone than a Nexus. You probably know why.
- Custom ROMs. I don't think I have to explain this one. The fact that I was able to root and flash multiple custom ROMs and kernels without any problem, for me it says enough.
Besides this, there are some little things that you may find important. I didn't put these things with the reason why I love the Nexus S, because these are not unique features of the Nexus S. There are more phones that have an amazing screen and that are fast.
- The screen is amazing. Whether you take the Super AMOLED version or the Super Clear LCD version. I actually like the latter better, but there is no wrong choice with this one.
- It's very smooth and fast. Even if you stay stock. There is seriously no need for dual core phones, at least not at the moment (except if you like to play wannabe-3D games on your smartphone).
Why you might hate it:
- Google kept the Nexus S as clean as possible. It doesn't have many features. No SD Card, no notification LED, and no FM radio for example. No SD Card isn't that big of a deal, since the internal memory for apps is 1GB, and besides that you still have like 14GB for other stuff. No notification LED may be a problem, but with custom kernels you can use BLN. It lights up the software buttons when you get a message.
That you actually know about the Nexus S 6/7 months after it was released, and that you consider it as an option, I think it says enough.

- Speaker volume is OK (may be a little low), but the vibration might cause some troubles. When I have my Nexus S in my pocket, I often don't feel the vibration.
- Sound quality through headphones is very good on the Nexus S, and it's almost perfect when you get a custom kernel with voodoo sound. You won't believe what you hear then. I think I can say that it has the best sound quality of all portable devices (Galaxy S has the same sound chip).
- Sound quality through speakers is also not bad, and also gets very good with voodoo sound.
- Sound quality when calling is good. The Nexus S has noise cancellation software.

I was in the same dilema when I was looking for phone. Pickedup the phone online from letsbuy last week. Overall it is good value for money package.
I have rooted the phone and testing it. Overall except for connecting bluetooth to the computer it is working absolutely fine
If you are looking to upgrade in the next one year this is a good option.
If money is not a problem for you, then I would say go for the sg2. I am not saying the nexus is not worth but it's just the way tech evolves. This generation is about dual cores. Even Google is optimizing the next android ice cream for dual cores, n rumors of nexus prime coming with dual core.
People might tell you all over the forum that the nexus s gets updates first...... me myself I usually say that to people a lot but the truth is that it doesn't matter. Updates matters only if you are on stock rom which I do not think you'll remain. At the end of the day, both sgs2 Nexus s will get the ice cream through cyanogenmod,also Roms.....

One simple reason to get this phone:
The call quality is good.
Unless you get an E-series Nokia or higher end Blackberry you won't find anything else similar in the smartphone market. There are actually ppl using the phone for calls, so thx Samsung/Google for bringing a decent phone at that.
And yes, I'd still get it today, prices are dropping, below 300€ soon w/o contract, pretty sweet. If you're getting a phone on a new contract might want to think about a SGSII as the subvention will be pretty high, but w/o NxS all the way.
By the end of the year my decision would be different though, WP Mango (especially the Samsung one SGSII-style), new BBs, iPhone 5 and maybe even next Google phone already.

Samsung also gave a cm developer a free Galaxy S2 to dev on. But the part about waiting is not true. You would still kind of be waiting on the manufacturer to release the source code for that specific Android version. With it not being fully released the company is not obligated to release the source code.
Kernel without source code creates limitations in development on all fields. Samsung gets a lot of pre released leaks so having a Nexus phone is a plus since Google releases the source code to the kernel in a respectable time.

Call quality better than moto phones? I am using moto defy now, it has built-in hardware noise cancelling, i am very satisfied with the call quality.

I disagree with your stance about updates. They absolutely 100% matter because without a kernel source from the manufacturer for a certain iteration of the OS, the ROM won't function as intended. If the manufacturer isn't committed to an Android update, there obviously won't be a kernel made for it.
And when I say the OS won't function as intended, it means there will be missing features, bugs, and worst of all - terrible battery life. I will direct you to the Samsung Captivate version of CyanogenMOD that was developed without a full documentation for developers from Samsung. It was put together using the Nexus S' software/hardware as the phones are very similar. The end result, while very respectable, has many bugs and terrible battery life.
Anyways, in regards to the Nexus S, I just picked up this phone a few days ago coming from the said Samsung Captivate. Everything just "feels" better (physically and mentally) on this phone. The biggest driver that pushed me to upgrade to a phone that is fairly similar to my old device was that it has lasting appeal. Nexus phones will always sell well in the marketplace if you were to upgrade to the Nexus Prime (the Nexus One still sells for $250 amazingly) and we will still get Ice Cream Sandwich if we decide not to upgrade.
As a result, Nexus phones are always futureproofed which is always important when you are discussing tech. As such, buying a Nexus S is never a bad decision. At least better than buying an Atrix, G2x, Galaxy S or any of the high-powered but manufacturer specific phones.

+1 he pretty much said what I said but more briefly in detail. Usually Samsung Firmware leak internal early builds of the next Android OS. This reminds me of the Vibrant leaks using a I9000 kernel rebuilt for the Vibrant. It was terrible battery life. When using the leaked Vibrant kernel for Froyo, it was amazing battery life but it was not as quite as fast. All the Froyo builds were built from internal leaks.
Kernel source code is very important if you're into flashing ROMs.
i went to a store today to play around with these phones
1. sgs2 - well doesnt luk worth the price, luks brittle in the hand .. dint excite me
2. htc sensation - i found the screen better than sgs2 cuz sgs2 screen just seems too bright n coloury but htc is more crisp n realistic .. but bad battery life
3. lg optimus 2x - good choice .. about $100 usd less than the top 2
4. xperia arc - impressive but laggy at time .. best camera of them all .. but same
price i'm gettin sgs2
5. samsung nexus s - I LOVED IT .. especially for the price .. and according to me
4.3 inch is too big to fit comfortably into jeans as well
its about $230usd cheaper than sgs2 .. so i think m gonna go
for it

ive tried multiple roms and kernels. i always return to stock. great battery life, great performance. matrix kernel almost kept me.
I am gonna return my 3VO for the Nexus-S 4G, Wife has it and I play with it more than my EVO-3D. I dare say it is a tad bit faster than my 3VO.
Plus the screen is amazing, and i love the curved rounded design of phone, feels great in the hand and fits in pockets easily.
As far as waiting for U.S. Galaxy S2, I say no, might as well wait for the better Nexus-Prime by Samsung. But for now get the Nexus-S. Plus the 4" screen size is perfect.

I love this phone, all the talk about duel core is nice and is totally awesome that the mobile hardware is advancing so fast. But I use my phone for communicating by all venues, location based services, some light hulu plus watching, and occasionally some games.
Duel core will help out with pushing the gaming of these devices alot. But I am not having any issues with speed with the aspects of what I need this for.
You can probably get this phone off contract for a nice price and with selling your old phone.
in india we dont have contract systems ther by v are not stuck with the network .. we can buy any phone and use any carrier we feel like .. i love it tht way ..
I think it's really the litte things that make this phone so great. People can comment on the lack of dual core and expandable memory, but the stock experience and updates make it worth it. Good call quality, good battery life, working GPS, great audio quality with VooDoo, charging port on bottom(easier to use phone while charging), great GPU, and a completely blacked out look when the device is off
I joined this forum actually to get some android help from ya'll you see well I live in Brazil and my parents in the USA, so I dropped my iPhone 3G (yes 3G not 3GS) and the touch screen cracked, so I would like to know from you guys that have more experience with Android if the Nexus One is a good phone still - compared that I only had a iPhone 3G which is not that great nowadays lol. So like the title of the topic says, is the nexus one still a good phone to this day compared at least to my old phone?
The community is also very active with updating it to the latest android it seems, and besides all I do with my phone is send SMS, read e-books and play Angry Birds and other games of that type, and a better camera would be welcome also.

Yes, the Nexus One is an awesome today still, but something that's a tad annoying is the power button. It might start to fail relatively early or just completely die and a replacement costs as much as a used Nexus One.

No, the n1 is crap compared to new phones, buy the desire hd much better processor (1.5 ghz), Hd camera's, 1gb internal memory, etc etc.

I read online that if you root your phone, you can use the trackball to power it on and other methods, does it still apply to the latest version of android that N1 runs?

and is not about newer or such it is more about cost and as I am in Brazil, the phones here are expensive and I don't have much to work with anyways, so the N1 is a good and very affordable option and already comes unlock, well I could root the Desire HD but hey, the N1 already comes unblocked lol

To be able to unlock your screen with either the volume buttons or the trackball itself, you would need to flash a custom ROM.

I don't know what planet you live on, but it's not the planet called "Reality." I have a SGSII and it has all of these great specs, but quite honestly, it's an inferior phone to the Nexus One. The Galaxy nexus and the Nexus S just blow it away.
There are so many things you can do with native android that you either can't do or are just a plain old pain in the ass compared to my nexus one.
The only things the Galaxy S II has on the N1 are internet speed (only in certain areas), camera and screen size/brightness.
Get the N1 and don't listen to spec hounds. Specs don't mean crap.

I believe you're the one that needs reality check.
A phone with extremely annoying and non-repairable touchscreen problem, faulty power button construction that makes it vulnerable and prone to failure, lousy sub-par GPU, slow USB transfer speeds, and you're suggesting it over much newer and better ones?
And to the OS argument - plain Android OS, at least till ICS, is crap - and IMHO, ICS adds nothing in exactly those areas that need adding. Any overlay will add LOTS of capabilities to it - be is crappy TouchWiz 3, much better TouchWiz 4 or also much better Sense 3/3.5. I posted enough comparisons of my own that show exactly where and how pure Android or CyanogenMod fall short and can't reach, no matter how you try.
Shortly - for the price of used or new N1, there are MUCH better options today. Sorry to disappoint.
It's not a bad phone, and some of my friends are still using it. Its quirks are livable with, if you don't demand gaming capabilities, and if you don't mind to occasionally turn off/on the screen when everything messes up, especially during navigation. If you already have it, there isn't much pressure to upgrade, if you can live with it. But if you're making your decision today - N1 is a bad decision.
And personally, neither me nor my wife found its quirks to be livable with. I lived with it for a year, because there were no better options at the time. My wife moved to another phone after 3 or 4 months.
If you want a good phone - see what fits your network. Being in Brazil, you probably need 850/1900MHz band phones, and all good MSM8x55 family models (Desire HD, Desire S, Desire Z/G2, MyTouch 4G/HTC Panache) are 900/2100 or 1700/2100 band. If some of those models exist with the bands you need - the suggestion is indeed to move to one of those. It'll be completely another world from Nexus One.

Way to lose all credibility in four words.
There are plenty of phones that came out after the nexus one that are better candidates. As others have said, the nexus one has a few too many hardware flaws that make it really crappy as a daily phone versus being a nice tinkering phone. The buggy digitizer and abysmal internal storage are two things that irritate me daily.
I would recommend checking out the Sony Ericsson Neo. The mytouch 4g is nice too; also known as the htc panache. If your budget is really tight you can look at the LG optimus one or something equivalent. You will still get the Google services with tradeoffs of using manufacturers' skins.

As much as I love my Nexus One (power button and touch screen problems do not affect me that much), I wouldn't buy one now. Other phones with equal or better performance are in the same price range.

My iPhone 3G that I let it fall and crack the touchscreen -.- I mainly used it for sending SMS and calling, reading ebooks, and playing games such as Angry Birds, Jetpack Joyride, so nothing heavy on the phone, hell I barely used the camera since I always had my digital with me when I wanted to take a picture.
And I totally forgot about the BAND stuff, because when I bought my iPhone 3G to Brazil from the USA, I just unlocked it and voila I was using it, so now you got me, and I was reading a topic (not on this forum) about the Galaxy Europa (or Galaxy 5) and there is many differente basebands you can download, so I don't know if specific basebands only apply to Android phones or all phones, and I just got lucky with me iPhone 3G

Thanks mate, I will check on them, currently on eBay I see Nexus Ones going around for 70-100
mostly are around the 80s, so if I do buy one for 80 bucks is it worth it? The chances of having a headache with the phone are they common?
If there are any other phones in the same range @ eBay 80-100 (max 110) could you guys please help me out

EDIT: Internal Storage, but can't you use a microSD card and plug it into the phone and it will extend its memory, or is the SDcard only used for certains items and the internal for other stuff - but isn't there something that lets you choose the partition size?

nexusone in question is an HTC phone made carefully for Google for developing android os in its first days and was the best in those days and still it is one of the best ones i believe, you just have to bear crappy start button which in some phones fail to operate and the Sonys freaky super LCD screen seen on late models. in my option super amoled screens are waaay better which can be seen on first models which i believe are better in quality from the newer ones ı used both and the early model which ı still keep as a spare phone is still working with no problems while the late model one which i sold did had problems with screen digitization and start button and comparing two of them ı sold the newer model as ı kept the older one so if you are buying a nexusone it is like lotary you can be lucky or unlucky depending the factory conditions while it is been made if you ask me i would recomend to buy one with amoled screen and buy it by seeing and touching it fizically.. but with the money you may spend on a nexus you can get a samsung galaxy S 16 gb and it will run flawlessly the new versions of android and plenty of memory in it if you are in to games with its 3d engine it will be great for you while you can keep lots of books to read in its huge memory yes it is not good looking as nexusone but it will last longer because it is plastic and drop resistant because of it....coming from iphone you will get use to it quicker since they look similar goodluck
I have been checking the price of nexus one in ebay for the last few days, it seemed that the ones in the 80-100 range mostly have problems while a functional ones will cost you 130-150 at least. I would highly suggest you to get a mytouch 4g instead for around 150.

Today I found an AMOLED Nexus One on ebay for sale, and it says it is the T-Mobile one but it is still unlocked to other GSM carriers worldwide right?
The Galaxy S is bit to pricey for my budget at the moment.

MyTouch 4G I have not been able to find one for 150, but seen many 200 and up (way up)

Right now it is not the best choice. Definetly you can find better phones around. But we are talking about a smartphone quite old. But I love it, great community even if now the interest on this phone is gradually decreasing.

That said. The Galaxy S II Hercules would be a great phone if it had dev support or native android. Since it doesn't it loses a lot for me.
The Nexus One Desktop Dock is fantastic. There's no bloatware and the phone is pretty fast. Again, it may not have the specs of nearly all phones coming out today, but being a developer phone with native android makes it very competitive with most. When your talking about spending less than $200 for one versus $800 for the super phones of today, to me, it's a no brainer.
I'm using the GSII because it's faster and has a bigger brighter screen, but the bloatware & TouchWiz are just awful. After 48 hours with the phone, I rooted it and found that the choices for ROMs were paltry. I'm running "Dewizzed" and the battery drains in 10 hours.
No matter what the specs are I find these issues very troubling and dang near unacceptable.
I'm saving my sheckles for another Nexus. Either the S or the Galaxy...maybe both.
So is it safe to assume that on a tight budget of 80-100 bucks the best bet would be to buy a Nexus One (since it is already unlocked, and not a bad phone and great community support and hell even made it to use the 2.3.7) Also I would acquire one that was in good condition and with charger batteries and etc

I don't see why not? Specially if you're into customization and I don't mean just the themes for Android, I mean changing your roms weekly...I cant seems to stop flashing new roms over and over lol. With that said tho, it's never going to perform as good as a stock device, and being that the HD2's stock is a dead system you might wanna think about it.
Other then that, it has a huge screen, it does everything that most of new devices do, cept the really graphics intensive games, and some minor rom bugs, but what you get is pretty much best of both worlds of Windows Phone and Android, you dual, triple, quadruple boot it. Heck I'm still using it as a daily driver...threw my HTC Radar away and went back to HD2.
HD2 is a great device, but it lacks 4G, which is noticeable to me.
I've noticed the newer phones seem to have a better GPS, I have an HTC MT4G, and the GPS locks a LOT quicker than the HD2s.
Still, I don't really like the MT4G very much, so I starting to think what I would like to get next?

4G connectivity is not a huge consideration outside of the US yet, and definitely not in India (where the OP evidently lives).
@OP, I personally don't see the HD2 as being worth it any more. The hardware is too outdated, and whilst it's cheap you should instead get a Nexus 4 which has far better hardware at a very low price. My particular issues with getting a HD2 now would be the awful GPU (can't even run temple run smoothly) and the screen which is now at quite a low PPI and doesn't have proper multitouch. At the end of the day it all depends on the price you can get it for.
you can get them around nashville tn for $65 and at that price i would HIGHLY recommend it.
i just put the nexusHD jellybean ROM on mine (coming from windows 6.5) and it came back to life! it had been living in the bottom of a desk drawer and now its sleek and running an android OS maybe 2% of the world is using.
in fact i might get 2 or 3 more to have as backups...this thing is great just running without a SIM card on WIFI at home for streaming pandora or using as a portable web browser.
Get the nexus 4 from the play store in usa... see the nexus 4 Indian thread in the nexus forum about how to get it to India. ....

If you want to buy the HD2. My on attention guaranty. Mine was more than 3 times But I think I have god motherboard now and works almost 6 month, Remember this is pretty old device and have only 2 finger to screen control - more don't work and let me think what next. Battery sometimes sucks. If I listing music all the time. Phone keep battery enough 10/11h without using display(control music by volumes buttons) The funniest thing is is still faster than cheap tablets from hypermarkets and have incredible support from xda

Recently I've been thinking about changing my Xperia Mini Pro to something better. I just want to get phone that won't be laggy after some while - XMP is like that, no matter on which ROM and kernel.
I've got iPhone in my thoughts, but I don't have many friends with Apple product so it'd be useless - I wouldn't be able to use iMessage or AirDrop so functionality drops down a lot.
Next thing in my mind was Windows Phone. I think it's great alternative for Android, but when I had a fight with my moms Lumia 520, I decided not to buy Windows Phone so soon.
So my eyes looked at Android not-so latest smartphones and I saw Nexus. I felt in love with design of Nexus 4 and 5. My friend got N5 so I did play a little with it and I'd love to buy 5, but I can't afford that so the only alternative is to buy Nexus 4.
I've read that it has good hardware and Android runs smoothly even after a year of using - it's a must be for me, because it's going to be my phone for about 2-3 years from now. The only thing is that glass design - it's beautiful but isn't it vulnerable to scratches or even cracks?
And the best thing I'd love about Nexus 4 is that it's going to get Android L - it's the best information I've heard recently.

Not only the Nexus 4 has good hardware and everything runs smooth und fast but the community behind this device is great, gentle and helpful. Just take a look at the Nexus 4 threads here on xda. This is just awesome! :good:
With the vanilla android and open source policy of the Nexus 4 you can customize this device to your hearts content. Cyanogenmod, ParanoidAndroid, matr1x kernel, ak...just to name a few examples.
I also own a Nexus 4 since 1 and a half year and its runs like Usain Bolt.
Honestly you shouldn't buy the N4. The phone is very fragile. The glass on the back is thin and is not protected with Gorilla Glass. The Camera is not good, Galaxy S3 has a better camera than the Nexus 4. That is both video and still photos. The battery is average and will last you through a day, maybe two days if you use a battery saving kernel like HellsDoctor.
Lot's of games do not work very well on the Nexus 4, for some reason, i think it's bad optimization with AOSP, because the Quad Core 1.5Ghz CPU and Adreno 320 are strong enough to play every android game. The Nexus 4 also has thermal issues, because of an internal design flaw, the CPU can get very hot (up to 60C in games) if you don't undervolt it with a custom kernel. Than the temp peaks out at maximum 45-50C.
Now i don't mean to bash the Nexus 4, i have one! The design is very nice, it has a good display (With Obsanity_Amoled it looks like an OLED display!), and it has thin bezels. The Nexus 4 is also very very fast, it could compete with the S5, HTC One M8 and Xperia Z2.
But, here is what would I do if I were to change my phone.
If i were you, i would not get the Nexus 4. or the Nexus 5. I would get a Galaxy S4, but i would go for the i9505 or the i9506, the 4G Snapdragon 600 and 800 versions.
I know they are made out of plastic but i would have hard shell case on it so it wouldn't matter.

I heard about fragility of this phone but I'm trying to take care about my phones . So I don't think it would be a problem - if I'd buy N4, the first thing will be buying a case or a bumper.
When we're going into games - I don't even play games on smartphone. The only games I've ever played were Angry Birds, Flappy Bird, Drop and 2048, so I'm not that "gamer" guy. I heard a little about heating up. But which smartphone hasn't that problem? Even my XMP has a heat problem when I'm using it intensively and long. But it may be a little problem when it comes to heating up even when using WiFi or something like that...
And about that Galaxy S4 is the thing that I really don't like the whole Galaxy series design. It looks too much like cheap phones for me. I much prefer the Sony or Apple design - especially iPhone 4.
I thought about Moto G too, but 1 GB of RAM isn't very convincing and I looked a little at Meizu MX3 with Flyme OS 3 - it's beautiful OS, I think. But it's battery is horrible.
And here we come... Battery... And that's the thing. 4.70" screen and 2100 mAh battery... Nexus 5 isn't better. That's hurting me a lot, that battery life.
Maybe more users will answer in this topic - I do find it very helpful.

still rocking my nexus 4 naked , for about 1 year or bit more , no cracks but some scratches here and there because it keeps sliding randomly , besides that it can easily go through next 3 years without hiccup imo , i was in almost same boat as you but i really think 200-250 is wayy wayyyyyy too much for nexus 4 these days , 150 $ for 16 gb is reasonable in mint but used condition , even if you are gamer this baby will run anything you throw at it without any stutters or anything , battery isnt issue it can last as much as any other phone if you use properly optimized kernel and default display settings suck anywhoo if you can get htc one gpe that would be also great :good:

I completely disagree with you. Tell me a game that doesnt run well on the N4? I'm a hardcore gamer and there is barely any game that I havent played. Deciding for a phone for it's camera? If so buy a Nokia 3310 and some Nikon/Canon and you rock lol

Ever seen Gangstar game running smooth on any device? Even tho on the high settings i finished it w/o any lag with franco kernel. I tried all of the rest and gangstar lags but not with franco, you should try it too. Almost finished GTA:SA and it bugged my safe game also with franco kernel. Despicable me is known for its "optimization" and lagging for most of the devices. When u see bad fps try to see if other phones have it like Despicable me. And for most of the games u said are actually made by Gameloft who produce even unfinished projects so it should not make ur decision.Gameloft is like:

In your place, I would absolutely go for the N4. I'm using one myself. No matter what I do to the software (hint: a LOT!) I can always get it back up and running. I love the phone and wouldn't replace it with anything other than a Nexus 5.
I've owned a Nexus 4 since the end of August 2013 and even today I still love this phone and I don't feel the urge to upgrade. (At least not until the Nexus 6 is released.)
This phone handles everything I want it to do. Its fast, snappy and simple, one of the reasons I love pure Android as there is no bloat. My phone is still completely stock from day 1 as I don't feel the need to root it. The screen is still quality in my eyes. There is also a possibility that this phone will receive Android L officially from Google which would be fantastic.
However my major grip; battery life. It is horrendous. Hardly makes it through a day for me. I even use extensive methods to save battery, for example, no Google now, location services off, phone on flight mode when WiFi is on etc. And the battery life still sucks. Its a shame the battery is not replaceable or I would have installed an extended battery as I have done in the past for previous phones.
My brother owns a Nexus 5, and from what I've seen his battery life is much much better than the Nexus 4. (He doesn't even use any optimisations and battery saving tweaks)
Comparing the Nexus 5 side by side to the Nexus 4 I don't feel a significant difference to warrant to purchase of the newer model, so when I was given the opportunity a few months ago, I turned it down and I will wait for the Nexus 6.
Bottom line; Nexus 4 is a fantastic phone, but terrible battery life.

The Nexus 4 is a brilliant phone right now, but its ageing processor, lack of LTE and bad battery life mean it probably won't last another 2-3 years. It is a two year old phone, after all.
I just picked up a mint one for 170 and at that price to me its a great phone now yea its just a backup to my z ultra but I am still having a lot of fun with it. I mean just look at the Dev support, its crazy good and I got LTE working in just a few mins pulled 70 down and 25 up first try on T-Mobile.

You say you don't feel the need to root it yet you have bad battery life. Now go root it and flash HellsDoctor kernel..... you'll have about 4-5 hours of screen on time
And guys, what do you think about this Moto G. I've read a little about it.
Maybe this 1 GB of RAM is not that bad. Any experiences with that smartphone?
About support - I know and that's the best thing in the whole Nexus series - community support. And I'm still hesitating between N4/N5 and now this Moto G came into my mind... It's not so expensive and hardware isn't that bad.

I am considering getting a second hand N4 as it's still a great phone, especially if it receives Android L from Google. I have an S4 and have been thinking about selling it as with the money (around £240) I could buy an N4 (£120) AND a Nexus 7 2013 (£110). I have the 2012 N7 so would sell it also. Just trying to figure out how much I would miss having the expandable storage option and also the camera on the S4. The other features (sensors, IR, removable battery), I think I could live without as I have them turned off pretty much all the time anyway, don't use the IR remote feature that much and take advantage of a spare battery. I think an external backup battery could be a better solution anyway (much higher capacity, can feature multiple USB ports for several phones/devices.)
Thinking about the expandable storage, it probably wouldnt be much of an issue, as my S4 is a 16GB model but you only get 8-9GB internal accessible even after debloating, where as a 16GB nexus 4 has about 13.5GB available and I could use my 32GB sd card with an OTG reader when need be, I also back up photos using Google auto backup as well which helps. Sorry just trying to convince myself to go ahead and sell my S4..

I'm going with Nexus 4. Nexus 5 is too expensive for me. I won't get cash from my mother to buy Nexus 5. I'll lend some money from friend or brother for Nex 4. Nexus 4 is for about 200-250$ here, in Poland, used and in good condition but from my friend's friend . Through something like ebay maybe I could get one for 180$ but I don't want to risk broken or stolen smartphone.

The stock experience of Nexus 9 is not great (quite bad actually). But with good custom rom and kernel i very much enjoy it.
For me, it deserved a lot of it. Mine is still working but just had to do one of the required, every-other-month wipes to prevent issues (lag, reboots). The screen size (and quality) is still perfect for me which is why I moved from n7 2013. Altering dpi settings helped with some lag, esp. Chrome. I can't help but wonder if one more GB of ram wouldn't have totally changed how this device works. For the $, it should have been there. It seems HTC did a particularly poor job with policy/warranty repairs.

So Google have always said that they support their Nexus devices with official firmware for 18 months but does that mean from device release date or from when they stop manufacture and the device and cannot be purchased anymore?
It wouldn't be fair for someone to have bought the device last week only to find the official firmware would soon stop...
I know that the N9 will get Android 'N' but would that be it?

At this point I would consider it to be possible for the N9 to get O, but ultimately we'll have to wait and see
I don't think the device on its own is that bad, (apart from the lightbleed.) All the hate should be directed at Google for not sorting out the issues and not asking HTC for a 3GB device from day 1. :crying:
My N9 has been OK. A bit of light bleed but not an issue. Run custom Rom from new and it does everything goes I want it to do smoothly.
I love the device but for a tablet, I feel they kinda skimped on the specs a little... to a degree that its pretty noticeable especially with many of the latest changes to android requiring more processing power and the fact that a tablet ought to be able to easily handle multi-tasking. It almost seems like their design is more proof of concept based rather than user satisfaction. Either that or they are doing too much and drop the ball on some stuff.
I regret paying so much and getting so little. I will never buy a new device, only after 6 months!

The reason I'm not buying a pixel c, is because of my experience with the N9.

I enjoy mine, and I like large tablets. With the rumored new Nexus 7, I'll probably grab a pixel c around Christmas if there's no new large Nexus. 7" just doesn't make sense to me with the size of phones.

No. Though the stock firmware has a bad experience, we still have lots of custom roms and they're great.
If I would have paid $400 for mine I would definitely hate it, but I got it for around $250 directly from HTC in one of those flash sales and I've been pretty happy.
Even if it hurts to say it, as an android fan, for $400 I would rather save a little bit more and grab an Ipad. I had an Ipad 2 for like 3 years and that damn thing never quit, still lasted like 11hrs Sot and even months sleeping (for real). Finally gave it to my GF and her 5yo niece uses and abuses it and that thing still works flawlessly, it's incredible.
Whilst owning the N9 and running CM13, I also picked up a LG v500 for only £70. I put CM13 on the v500 and the performance shows up the N9 for smoothness, consistency and multitasking. This goes against all the benchmarks where the N9 is significantly faster.
With nothing running, the N9 is smoother. Load up a ton of things in the Ram, and it all comes crashing down for the N9 whereas the v500 is still as smooth and speedy as when little is in Ram.
As the N9 was gathering dust, I got rid. R.I.P. Nexus 9.
seems like disabling certain content providers and their corresponding services/receivers for the google play services app has made more than a significant improvement for me. I usually try not to mess with that stuff since it could really screw stuff up too. also, do not deny permissions for anything google. use xposed AppOps to control those. completetely different experience. sad that Google's objective is far more important than user experience.

I was using Pure Nexus
But I built myself AOSP so I'm using that at the moment
