does the fingerprint scanner contribute to Google system drain - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got a pretty big drainage on my battery yesterday and after making some adjustments to syncing, changing location to battery saver, and some minor things I'm hoping it improves. I did notice though that Google systems was the main culprit and was wondering if unlocking the phone with the fingerprint scanner drains more battery than the traditional way. Anyone know?

I am having the same drain...I dont know what's going on.

battery life here has been amazing. far better than what i was getting with my S3. i wouldn't think that the fingerprint scanner would use more battery than say pattern or pin unlocking. but i do not know that for sure. i kow i can unlock my phone, respond to a text message and shut off again faster with fingerprint scanner than i can with pin code.

[Q] i9505 battery draining overnight

Hi
i don't particularly have problems with the battery life of my s4, but sometimes i get weird drains, like 25% overnight. The weird thing is i deactivate every toggle except for flight mode and battery saving mode. I thought it's rather peculiar that my battery drains in what in my opinion should be like the most battery friendly mode i could think of.. anyone any suggestions on how to solve this? On the first picture i dont really complain about the first 2 drops because that could be caused by gaming, but maybe it's in there too, the last one however is with all toggles off from a certain point (you can see my wifi and screen turn off), but there isn't really a change in steepness of dropping... the second picture is my toggle setup. Any help would be appreciated

I have exactly same problem! Any ideas?
well as always... first check your wakelocks with better battery stats (free on xda forums).
i had a drain over night too. even on my s2.
it was my routers fault... bought a new one and drain is fixed.
but maybe it's just an app for you which gets your phone out of stand by. so check out better battery stats
Same here. Already used better battery stats. Nothing suspicious which could've drained the battery that much
Send from my Galaxy S4 packed with awesomeness

[Q] what functions use most battery?

Gaming ofcource. I know.
But im wondering what "gimmicky" features are the most power sucking.
What about hand gesture during standby? Does that leave camera on?
What about finger hover?
What about the rest?
Wich are not heavy on battery and wich are?
Thanks.

The screen of course.
To maximise battery life, it is recommended, you do not use the phone at all.
I guarantee you will have outstanding battery life if you hardly touch your phone at all.
I haven't done extensive testing, but I have noticed that even though I get incredible deep sleep over night (95%), my phone still uses a lot of battery over an 8 hour period (15-25% - as opposed to my SGS3 which would use <10%).
I thought at first maybe it was the Air gesture -> Quick glance feature, as it will have to monitor the gyroscope constantly and if the phone is flat (which it is over night for me), then it'll have the gesture sensor on as well. Last night I tried turning that feature off (actually i turned all motion and gesture, smart screen, and air view features off), and there was no noticable improvement in battery life overnight, so it seems that my problem is still there, but also that the gimmicky feature doesn't actually appear to use too much battery.
Note; the gesture stuff doesn't use the camera, it has it's own sensor.
the Air view (i assume this is what you're referring to when you say finger hover) feature won't use more battery as it's only active in certain apps, so will only use more battery while those apps are active.
Ok that sounds actually quite good made by samsung then...although weird you lose so much battery. Maybe the rom and kernel you have?
Maybe some applications you use ? Try WakeLock Detector or Greenify from Google Play Store
i think the most power battrey goes to screen. and second goes to signal mobile network.if the signal low, that will consume more battrey because always search for better signal
The screen and signal. As above, the phone will consume extra battery searching/adjust the signal to make sure you have a good reception. There are different schools of thought but I have most battery life when on WiFi.

Well let me place it to you from the most to least :
1-Screen
2- CPU Runs (any apps using too much CPU )
3- signal and 3g/4g
4-Smart Features and camera
5- music , and mostly all the rest

Please help me troubleshoot Smart lock and Doze issues

1. I just got my Nexus 6p yesterday and upgraded from my Nexus 6. I left it on the side table last night without putting it into battery saver mode or anything like that, expecting Doze to take care of my battery saving needs. I lost around 35% battery overnight, which is as bad or worse than the Nexus 6 did without battery saver mode turned on. Chrome and Android OS were the top users, but I expect that the Chrome use was my using it before bed, not overnight? What could cause that kind of drain, especially when Doze should be making it way better, not worse?
2. Smart Lock never really worked for me on the Nexus 6 at home. I was really hoping that the 6p would fix it, but I still get asked for a pin or fingerprint all day while keeping the phone here. How can I troubleshoot this?
In case it matters, this is a stock phone. No root or anything other than applying OTA updates and restoring apps from my old Nexus 6 using the Google restore feature when it first booted.
Well over this past night I didn't lose a single %... so the first night was fluke I guess...
Any ideas on the smart lock situation?

smart lock sucks so badly. I could never get it to work at home both on n6 and n6p. what's worse is that on my n6p fingerprint scanner brings up the pattern lock very often.
Smart Lock for locations is a hit and miss.
Good to read the batter issue solved itself.

Android system - stay awake time question.

It seems like my phone is having a problem going to sleep. For example my S7E has been staying awake for 7h19' out of 9h26m on battery. Can someone please look at my screenshot and tell me which of those might be causing this problem? I use and s7e and an iphone 6+ at the same time and my s7e's battery life is much worse compared to the iPhone. Please help.
You need to use Wakelock Detector., That screen shot tells us nothing
@Galactus does it require root? Cause I don't want to loose my warranty.
Use gsam for battery monitor , is it exynos or snapdragon aod on? Also there are other threads stating the same, go read first.
I found the problem. It was the bluetooth and wifi scanning to improve location accuracy. Turned those of and nowmy s7e's battery life is even better than the 6+'s. Cheers!
]Just found it in Location setting.
Hope that can fix this problem.

Significant motion sesor causing tons of wake time/battery drain

Hello,
A month ago my SM-G900T on the Mokee Nougat rom was doing great then just started draining the battery a lot while not in use. I'd lose about 10% of battery in 12 hours with the screen off, wifi on, and no movement at all. Then it started draining ~50% in the same time, also no movement or use. I didn't add or remove any apps or change any settings. The app Better Battery Stats blames wakelocks caused by the significant motion sensor. I wiped it which didn't help and tried other Nougat roms that previously did great with battery usage without installing anything but Open GApps micro and still I get tons of wake time with the significant motion sensor being blamed. Greenify with hibernate, Aggressive Doze and Doze on the Go all make no noticable difference. There are a number of sensor test apps and all of mine appear to be working fine.
Any ideas?
I am having the exact same issue with samsung significant sensor motion.. But i havent changed roms yet to test in other roms. I am getting sometimes 10% drop in one hour without ever touching the phone. And all status seem to blame this motion sensor. Have you found some solution or explanation on this?
did anyone find a solution to this? i started having problems with it on s10+ exynos A11
