Significant motion sesor causing tons of wake time/battery drain - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
A month ago my SM-G900T on the Mokee Nougat rom was doing great then just started draining the battery a lot while not in use. I'd lose about 10% of battery in 12 hours with the screen off, wifi on, and no movement at all. Then it started draining ~50% in the same time, also no movement or use. I didn't add or remove any apps or change any settings. The app Better Battery Stats blames wakelocks caused by the significant motion sensor. I wiped it which didn't help and tried other Nougat roms that previously did great with battery usage without installing anything but Open GApps micro and still I get tons of wake time with the significant motion sensor being blamed. Greenify with hibernate, Aggressive Doze and Doze on the Go all make no noticable difference. There are a number of sensor test apps and all of mine appear to be working fine.
Any ideas?

I am having the exact same issue with samsung significant sensor motion.. But i havent changed roms yet to test in other roms. I am getting sometimes 10% drop in one hour without ever touching the phone. And all status seem to blame this motion sensor. Have you found some solution or explanation on this?

did anyone find a solution to this? i started having problems with it on s10+ exynos A11

[Help] Battery Drain issue in One Plus One

Hello Experts,
My Battery is draining like crazy. I tried almost everything to figure out what is the issue but could not figure out. Below are the details I gathered from the things I tried.
My battery started draining almost 30 % overnight. Initially I thought it was due to the Unofficial Marshmallow Rom, I could see Wi-Fi to be cause of this drain. Hence I tried different Roms (Cyanogen Mod, PA, DarkObas, Sultan ROM, and stock Cyanogen OS ( Past 3 versions, including latest one). but the battery drain didn't stop.
So I decided to flash PA rom again, installed OpenGapps PICO (Only Google play service nothing else). I installed CPU spy and left it over night in Airplane mode. When I checked in the morning (after 7 hours) battery drain was of 25 %. This was surprising as nothing was running on my phone and only the minimum apps were installed. At this time, CPU spy showed no abnormal wake locks and was in Deep Sleep for almost 93% of the total time. The stock battery usage showed only Mobile Stand by and usage of 50 mAh.
Can you please help me figure out what is causing the battery drain.

Did you try to disable Location>Scanning>Wi-Fi scanning & Bluetooth Scanning? I had a similar situation and started using amplify + greenify on Resurrection Remix and now I have a very good battery life...

Thank you for your reply.
Yes I already tried that. The strange thing is Battery drain is observed in Airplane mode also, while minimum apps installed(Stock apps with PA rom and Opengapps Pico package). Do you have any other suggestions.
It's really hard to judge what could be your issue, you can try different methods to find out who is the actual culprit.May be an app eating your battery or device might have nasty wakelocks, alarms etc or the battery itself would be damaged etc.
Anyways,Turn off ambient display, install BetterBatteryStats then run a full cycle and analyze entire stats of your battery, you'll get know the issue or at least a clue. If you couldn't find out the issue after BetterBatteryStats test then clean flash the a ROM(Recommends CandySix or Darkobas ) w/o GApp and give it a try
Firmware
Try a different firmware version. Here's a link :

Sounds like your battery cannot hold its charge anymore.
How old is your OPO? May be your battery life is about to over.
And this battery drain suddenly started or gradually increased?
Try diagnosing by changing the Location settings to device only. It's some weird bug with COS and CM that's making it to the latest builds of 6.0.1 . I saw that older builds in May don't have this problem.

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delayed response. I was getting New Battery
Unfortunately, Problem still exists even with the Brand New battery. Can any hardware issue cause this issue? It's certainly not Battery problem and not software problem as well.

You really should have taken my advice earlier and diagnose before making any decisions. If your battery truly was dying, then apps like 3C and Geekbench's battery test would've picked this up as they've linear-regression curve data from aggregate sources that you could've compared to. In your OP, you stated that you saw WiFi as a culprit, but did you also know that Google Play Services (depending on version) can do location requests up to 78 times within the hour on stock apps alone? I used to have this similar battery issue, but that was related to location-requests from Google Play Services that somehow propagated to other sources based on CM13's July commit, meaning that kernels also based on this could've been affected as well. What I eventually settled for, in the meantime, is using SultanXDA's 08082016 build and so far everything looks good on Wifi regarding what I expect for typical battery performance. If I learn something, I'll come back to report on it.

I did took your advice and checked Location services. The problem occurs even with Wi-fi, 3G and Location desiabled. Also in Airplane mode with almost nothing installed (only gapps PICO package and CPUSpy)
i suggest trying old version it may help

You might wanna try that. Possibly MM eating through. I still use Lollipop too. I find no need for MM yet. Also MM feels anti-dev to me for some reason :/ Needs all workarounds for things that were previously much easy to do. Oh well. Try Lollipop and see if it helps? It'd have been my first step for troubleshooting before buying a new battery

Yesterday, I left my phone in Recovery mode (TWRP 3.0.2.0). In less then 5 hours, I observed battery drain of 20%. Same amount of drain is observed when running MM rom. I don't think changing to Lollipop will help. To me it looks like some hardware issue, can any hardware beside battery cause such issue?

Sensor battery drain

Hey guys,
I know that there are too many people with battery drain problems in the forum. But I'm getting frustrated with the battery life of my S7E in the last few weeks. So I hope you can help me.
I'm using the latest Super Stock Rom V.2.4 on my Exynos S7E, connected to a Gear S3. Over the last few months I was able to get 5-6h SOT with any rom I used. But in the last few weeks I'm having strange battery drain. I'm having the battery issues with every rom I tried after a few days. With and without a connected gear
Issues I notized in the screenshots:
1.) Wifi was deactivated 80% of the day. But why is BBS showing me, that Wifi was running for the 100% of the time?
2.) The usage of the Proximity and Grip Sensor seems too high for me. What could cause this activity of both?
3.) 5000x RILJ wakelock? What the?
4. 1500x Android System Wakelock (things like Imsservice, *alarm*, motionservice and so on)
Some screenshots.

Battery Drain on galaxy s8

I have now had my galaxy s8 for over a year and i have noticed my battery life hasnt always been that great.
I have noticed that over a total day i only get 2-3 hours screen on time.
For an example when i go with the bus home for 25 min my battery often drains over 10% without even using the screen for 25 minutes.
Once i installed another rom called lightrom or something over the renovate ice rom and it got much better the first day but second day when i got more apps on it begun to be bad again.
I then went back to renovate ice rom and i was back to bad battery life again when i installed all my apps.
BUT in this case i have an app called greenify and i greenify all my apps in the background but i still have a massive standby drain
I have never found out what has caused my problem but for sure it cant last a whole day
I have this thought that it can be weak signal but i have disabled the option "Keep mobile data turned on" and followed multiple tutorials of how to make battery life better
AOD off, Location off, Wifi off, bluetooth on ( for gear s3), nfc off,
So i only use bluetooth and mobile data.
I apreciate all help

Since the problem starts when you install your apps, I would start with checking which apps are the culprit. Apps like snapchat and Facebook are notoriously known for unreasonable high battery drain in standby.

Personally I have auto sync off, no battery saver, amplify, and display set to WQHD but I also use dark themes via substratum and my average battery life is roughly about 8 hours SOT
Edit: Sorry meant to quote OP

I have deleted Facebook a couple of weeks ago and that made no huge difference. Though I think snapchat may be the one. But I often have it hibernated

Trying to track down cause of recent battery drain issue.

Hello all,
So I know there's various discussions all over the web about the Galaxy s10 and battery issues on both Snapdragon and Exynos variants. It seems people are experiencing a wide margin of difference in avg battery life..
So here's my situation. My wife and I both have S10+'s through AT&T. We got them the first week they came out. I looked though the forums and performed several battery optimization tweaks on both phones and since then the battery life has been really impressive... No complaints really. Until this last week.
We both recieved the March security patch and fingerprint scanner fix about a week ago. My wife's phone seems unchanged by this. Everything working as expected. My phone however has been draining battery MUCH faster both in SOT and standby time. I'm losing 2-3x more battery % overnight. In the last 20 mins of just reading through threads on the XDA forum app, I've lost about 10% battery. I'm sitting in the dark with my screen brightness very low too. (down another 5% since I started typing this!)
My wife and I have very similar phone habits. Since both our phones are optimized identically, and we used most of the same apps a play the same games, I started looking through everything different I've done in my phone since this problem started. I installed Adhell3, which seems to be setup properly and working. Mike B. from Adhell's Discord assured me that Adhell shouldn't be draining my battery. I'm mostly using it just to remove a bunch of basic bloatware and block some ads.
The update seems to have worked fine otherwise. My FP scanner is much better now, but something is definitely wrong. I've tried wiping the partition cache afterwards. I've tracked down others experiencing issues after this particular update, but cant seem to find a way to fix this problem yet. I saw something about Deep Sleep problems after the update when someone uses a VOIP service like Skype or WhatsApp, but I dont use anything like that. I can't even find a good tool to use to see more information about my battery usage, as the built-in battery monitor lacks a good deal of information. CPUspy doesn't work on my version.
If anyone has any ideas of what could be the culprit, what else I could try, or what tools I could use to try and track down what exactly is causing this sudden increase in drain, I'd really appreciate it.
Which update do you have ASBA or ASCA? This is rather weird, Battery drain can also come from restoring from backups. I lose 2% every night and my phone is on airplane mode, not connected to anything except location. I do not have adhell, and last time I tested before the fingerprint update I had 10h SoT on wifi purely. When I got the new fingerprint update I checked if the phone went to deep sleep and it does, so I really do not know what might be your issue. I have an exynos variant btw. Also I charge my phone constantly from 80 I let it drop to 40 and charge it back, I do not use fast charging options. Since unplugging my phone now on LTE fully I have lost 1% in 30 min, I have my fitbit always connected, location on, max resolution, I have a semi black wallpaper and brightness around 40-50%.
I will see today how much SoT I can get from 80% part wifi, part LTE, I will update.
clear cache helped a lot of people
Update 1
Reset all phone settings to factory. Don't do full factory reset, just all the settings, fixed my post update battery drain issues
Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Update 2
Hrrm. It seems I don't have ASBA or ASCA, I have ASD3. The March update.
I'm really hoping I don't end up having to factory reset and manually install everything... Because I did do a restore from backup with AT&T Transfer, because it seemed really convenient and time saving. I had no idea that so many people have had issues with restoring from various back up services (AT&T, Samsung, Google etc.)
I did the same restore from backup on my wife's S10+ too and she's had no problems. Her battery life is phenomenal. My battery issues only started after this last update.

Well that seems rather strange to be honest, you can eliminate possibilities by just testing and see what works. Last possibility can be that factory resetting and installing all new, but then again, it could be that it solves your issues or not. You should be having rather horizontal lines to prove your phone is truly going into deep sleep in my opinion, but also you can check with CPU Spy
Sorry it will be this pic
Try to log too safe mode and check the battery drain
If stopped then it was from an application that have a problem
If not I think it might be a system app or something
So. I'm starting to think that some of my problem has to do with wakelocks. Unfortunately I have limited access to wakelocks statistics since my phone is unrooted. However. Last night I fully charged my phone right before bed and then took it off the charger to see how much it would lose overnight. It dropped a whopping 10% vs the 1-2% it used to.
I looked through some of the battery info and noticed several apps running in the background for very long periods of time since last night. Chrome(2hrs) , Discord(2hrs), Google Play Services(a whopping 13hrs 30mins running in background) and Google Play store (5hrs)
Somehow Discord was responsible for draining 7.6% battery in that time!
So, could this be a wakelock issue causing my phone to lose so much battery overnight? I know that's only half the problem, because I'm also experiencing higher drain than usual while using certain apps too. But I'm trying to figure out one thing at time.

You just need to tweak your settings more, put which apps do not run on the background or go to sleep, how many days you need to wait to put unused apps to sleep. Is all tweaking the settings.

Then I don't what you can do, either do a factory reset and so not restore anything from backups and see if that works. I usually set my phone that way, clean no restoration from any backup all apps are installed manually, and I do not even use adhell to disable most of Samsung crap apps and services.

Fingerprint scanner.... battery drain

Curious how much battery does the FPS drain?... generally speaking? has anyone noticed significant battery improvements with the FPS disabled?
I have seen some fellow users complaining about it in other threads too. Kindly comment if you are facing the same issue or have found a solution to it. Moreover I was looking for some means to bring this issue to the attention of developers, kindly inform me if there's any way to do
I am also facing idle battery drain while using fingerprint sensor, at night my phone drained 15-20% while fingerprint is on. But after removing fingerprint data registered on the device i am not facing idle battery draining. Is there any fix for this issue. My friends are also having fp battery drain issue.

Are you on the latest official firmware (0.59)? It seems like the standby battery drain has been solved on the latest update.
Yes i am in 059. Today i flashed sysconfig patcher and installed naptime and i think after installing naptime there has been a huge reduction in idle drain due to fp.
im on 58, i didnt notice any drain because of fp not enabled vs enabled but something else is draining my battery when it is idle even when my phone has no user app nor anything is open like internet and gps. This is no way a normal battery drain because it was like 1%-3% an hour and this is a phone with 5,00mAh (4,900mAh rated battery)
