[APP] Heartbleed Detector - Nexus 5 Themes and Apps

Almost everybody is aware about the Heartbleed bug in OpenSSL.
Lookout Mobile Security has released a Heartbleed detector to know if our Android device is affected or not.
If you are interested here is the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.heartbleeddetector
What is Heartbleed?
Heartbleed is a software flaw in the OpenSSL “Heartbeat” function that helps keep secure connections alive. This function was found to be vulnerable to manipulation in a way that allows an attacker to steal up to 64K of data at a time from the active memory of affected systems. The bug, found by researchers from Codenomicon and Google, and filed with the following reference number – CVE-2014-0160, impacts any infrastructure that includes the affected versions of OpenSSL.

Do you know if is there any possibility to upgrade OpenSSL manually without waiting for an Android update (Maybe fixed in future 4.4.3 OTA???)

We (regular Android users) can't do anything afaik.
The app says that I'm affected BUT I've read that only OpenSSL 1.0.1 of Android 4.1.1 is vulnerable (here)
FYI Openvpn Wiki

If you're using fr05ty rom then you're already safe

I find it hard so hard to believe an OpenSSL binary for Android hasn't been released yet OR someone hasn't created an Xposed module to somehow patch it. I'm none too worried about it because it does say it doesn't affect our OpenSSL on 4.4.2...but still security is all about being paranoid. But I wouldn't be surprised if Google extends the date for the release of 4.4.3 to get OpenSSL patched. I feel like Google doesn't like to NOT tie up loose ends.

I guess you misunderstood me, I meant a link that is not the google play store. A link that directly allows me to install the apk. I dont use Google services in my phone and therefore cannot use the playstore. I have no gapps in my phone.

If anyone wants to know how I did it, I used an alternative scanner called bluebox scanner, which used the aptoide store, which I have installed.
FYI, android 4.2.2 cyanogenmod 10.3 has the vulnerability but its not enabled.

Just curious why you don't use any Google services. Do you not have a GMail account? Strange to use Android and not use Google services.

Hi I just got my nexus rooted had to bring it to the nexus nurse in my local city ,must say it was buggy as hell before hand, now its really impressive. I assume you mean you can't download it from the Play Store, that's because you have have to download it manually then install the APK. Make sure you have your device set to allow unknown sources then you can install it. Last time I checked it was still working.

common APK files for sideloading

I know people are always looking for apk files to sideload on their KF specially Google apps. I've started a page where I have posted those common files. I'm also willing to add more upon request. Just leave a comment on the blog post page. This is for free apps only and is not meant to get around paid apps in anyway. http://androidcowboy.com/android-apk-files-download/
This is awesome!
THX :good:
I've downloaded and installed the Play store. When I open it, it gives me a popup informing me an account needs to be connected in order to use it. I click yes to set up my account, and the app shuts down. Any ideas?

You probably don't have Google framework installed. Use KFU (Kindle fire utility) to do that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 Questions welcome.
Thanks Cowboy - useful stuff
I use Android Drawer since it has mostly All Free Apps, that are essential for Android Users. Its got over 50,000+ apps, only free though, no warez. I use it all the time for sideloading when I am at Stock, and most are update as soon as updates roll up.

Hi, great thread. My daughter is getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I will be setting it up before the big day (well Santa obviously does that). I specifically want to add Google Play Music as I have just signed up for All Access, what additional APKs will I need to be able to sign in?

I think you'll need Google Play Services, and Google Play Framework if you're aren't rooting. Also, I am not sure but I think All Access is for Android 4.0+, but I am not sure though.

[Q] Google Hangouts / talk

Howdy,
I'm wondering if anyone has been able to get the Hangouts app to work on their N4. I'm running the latest nightly of CM 10.1. I went to install Hangouts from the Play store and it says that I have it installed. However my app is still called Talk and has the Talk interface. Has anyone had luck getting this updated?
Nevermind heh. I just used CM File Manager to move the talk.apk from /system/app to a backup location. Then I went to the Play store and tried again. This time it installed the new version.
I had the same issue. My solution was to go onto the Web store and install it from there to my phone. Seemed to do the trick.

Interesting, I tried that first but it didnt work for me.
I wish I could edit my title so it is more descriptive...
Just uninstall the original Talk app first (using Titanium or anything that's capable of remiving system app).
Seriously i rated this with 1 STAR.
It must say: "Replaces Talk AND REMOVE THE F$$$ING VOICE-CALL FEATURE FROM YOU Talk".
Its best to remove Talk and then install Hangouts.
Does anyone know how to get this working with the N4 if it's not rooted?

Nope - I have two stock, unmodified, new Nexus 4's... one upgraded no problem with the new Google Hangouts that properly replaced Google Talk... and the other, upgrades with Google Hangout but in the app list and everywhere else, still shows Google Talk but no Google Hangout. Under all apps, Google Talk is still shown. If you open it from there, the old Talk launches. If you search Google Play for Google Hangouts, it shows 'Installed' and if you open Google Hangouts from there, it launches the old Google Talk.
Very strange.... gonna try clearing some app data and what not to see if it resolves.

Should I also unplug it and wait 30 seconds?
I have the same issue as OP. I can't uninstall Talk (no root) and the play store is showing that hangout is installed. I open it and Talk comes up.

Please let us know if you figure anything out. I'm on stock as well and I'm starting to regret it because of updates like this. I bought this phone for updates but so far, it seems to be behind on that(4.2 OTA took a week). I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling google+ and that didn't work. I thought it might be tied to g+ since Google is trying to make it more involved with Android. I might root this weekend if I don't get it soon.

Google have addressed this as follows:
Google said:
NOTE: If you aren't yet able to install Hangouts on your phone or tablet, or the Play Store "Open" button takes you to the old Talk app, hang tight, we are rolling out Hangouts to everyone over the course of several days. Rest assured Hangouts will be available soon for all Android 2.3+ devices, tablets included!

I was having the same issue as others. It shows as installed on the phone (v 1.0.0.1) and via Play Store in a browser.
I was able to use a browser and install it to my wife's Nexus S though.
Here is the APK for v 1.0.0.678017 which I was able to side load and works fine on my N4.
Due to APK file size, I had to upload it in a ZIP archive.
Thanks mate, I had the same issue on my JB Xperia. Your APK worked.

Didnt work for me at first. Then i went to the web app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5nb29nbGUuYW5kcm9pZC50YWxrIl0.) and pressed install. Installation was pushed to my device and now it works great!

I made the same mistake. I removed the update "3.6.1.44747389", but now the market pushes "3.6.0.44338848" instead. Not sure what the difference is, but I side loaded a backup of the newer version.
The apk SpookyTunes posted worked for me, I have it on my Galaxy tab 2.

[Q] The new App Data sync. Working?

So with Google I/O finished and the new Play Store update. I'm wondering has anyone test the new App Data sync option that's under accounts? Is it just for games or all apps? I've tried it between my Nexus 7 and Droid X with no avail. No app data syncs.
Anyone have any more info for this feature or have got it to work?
I'm also very interested to know more about this. As a dev it would be a great new feature for some of my apps.
Can't find any info from Google about the subject.
Verstuurd van mijn Galaxy Nexus met Tapatalk
At Google I/O a list of game developers who have implemented that feature was displayed. Apparently apps have to be updated to take advantage of the feature, it doesn't work for all apps. Also, it was mainly intended for the 'cloud saves' feature of Google Play Game Services, so it's mostly for games. I'm not sure if regular apps can use this feature to sync data, but that will be great if it is possible and developers start to use it.

This feature is starting to sound boring now. Basically if I factory reset my N7 and all my apps reinstall I will have to start over again with only certain games containing my hard worked progress...Android in this area is moving slow :/ .

Yes both are set.
But is there any other os (mobile or desktop) that can do that right now?
Except for Chrome-OS maybe, but that is fully cloud oriented.
Somebody pointed me to this:

Not sure if that is the new app data sync.

If you watch the Google I/O 2013 keynote, you'll see the list on screen during the app data sync announcement. Yeah this feature would have been better if it was implemented by the system itself for all apps. Currently it only works if apps explicitly allow it.

Yep and this is one thing that keeps customers on Apple side. Not worrying about lossing your high score and level you at. Pick up where you left off when you buy a new device. Delete the game? just go to the App Store and redownload it and your data is back. Sad. Wish Google would wake up already and implement it. Thank god for Helium.

I hate to say this, but what exactly was the point of either of these posts? Neither answered the question (which takes about two seconds), and "sucks" is a huge matter of personal preference. Maybe OP happens to really like the new variants; either way, if Op wants to upgrade, that's their call.

Nothing in your post says what rom you use, let alone how you installed google apps. So it really depends. For example if you installed Slimbean + SlimGapps for example, your play store among other apps from that package will not update because they are modified from the official source, so there is that factor to consider.
