common APK files for sideloading - Kindle Fire General

I know people are always looking for apk files to sideload on their KF specially Google apps. I've started a page where I have posted those common files. I'm also willing to add more upon request. Just leave a comment on the blog post page. This is for free apps only and is not meant to get around paid apps in anyway. http://androidcowboy.com/android-apk-files-download/

This is awesome!
THX :good:

I've downloaded and installed the Play store. When I open it, it gives me a popup informing me an account needs to be connected in order to use it. I click yes to set up my account, and the app shuts down. Any ideas?

You probably don't have Google framework installed. Use KFU (Kindle fire utility) to do that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399889 Questions welcome.

Thanks Cowboy - useful stuff

I use Android Drawer since it has mostly All Free Apps, that are essential for Android Users. Its got over 50,000+ apps, only free though, no warez. I use it all the time for sideloading when I am at Stock, and most are update as soon as updates roll up.

Hi, great thread. My daughter is getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I will be setting it up before the big day (well Santa obviously does that). I specifically want to add Google Play Music as I have just signed up for All Access, what additional APKs will I need to be able to sign in?

I think you'll need Google Play Services, and Google Play Framework if you're aren't rooting. Also, I am not sure but I think All Access is for Android 4.0+, but I am not sure though.

Thanks for the post. Got it installed and was able to get Rio installed too. once in the app you have to set up "one click method" in your amazon account. Guess you can dhis online too on amazon.com as thats where it sends you. But after that is set up you can download apps.
You have to have an account with Amazon and link your phone with your account and turn on the one click purchasing.
I really just wanted Rio. I'll never use their store, they don't make android, they don't make apps, they just want to profit off them. If I'm going to give someone money it's going to be the people who are putting the time, effort, and money into the product I'm purchasing. I played through a couple screens of Rio, it was pretty cool. I then deleted the amazon market and rio wouldn't start again. I'm just going to pay the $.99 from the market and keep the money where it belongs.

So much easier just to get sideload wondermachine and sideload amazon app store and when you download the program, you will get the security error.
Then plug up your atrix to your PC, grab the file and transfer it to your PC. Then run sideload wonder and it will put it on your atrix.
Been doing this daily and takes about 30 seconds to complete the whole process...

How do you get ICS only Apps on the Fire?

If I put ICS on my Kindle, how do I get 4.0 specific apps on there? Right now I use my android phone that runs 2.3 to access the play store, then I backup and install on the fire.
I dont think my ZTE99 phone can run ICS but if it can, will Google Play recognize this and allow me to download ICS apps?
what apps are u referring to?

If you put ICS on your Kindle, you'd need to flash the Google Apps which will give you the Play Store. So you wouldn't have to deal with the backing up mess.
Google won't let you download apps designed for ICS on older OS versions. Nor will it let you install them.

Yeah I know. I thought there was a work-around or some sort of app repository that no one discusses in the open.
Why use some shady repository when you can get it from the play store?
I use this sometimes. Not sure if it is considered shady or not. Only found out about it in order to get google maps onto my stock fire.

If you install CM9, then you can just download anything from the Play store as your device will be treated just like a standard Android tablet.

I know im a bit late for the party, but i use this site ( http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Latest_Version/Google_Apps) to install the playstore. It has a list of the different cyanogenmods and which gapps is best for it. Just download, then install with twrp. Reboot and download whatever you want from the playstore. Some apps say that you cant install them, do to you device and others because of your location. I dont know how to fix the local one. But with your device, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cssyIE4maZY

That is because a lot of those apps use frameworks/APIs that are no longer in ICS.

KindleFree (Free your kindle)

Within the last week I have been on vacation in Minnesota and my Dad has a Kindle Fire HD...after seeing how horrible the Amazon Homescreen is and all that can be done to help improve the device I decided to write an application that would help users perform general tasks on the Kindle Fire HD after rooting it that would make their experience better.
I have yet to test this on anything but the Kindle Fire HD. I know this will not work on the original Kindle Fire, but 2nd generation on up may be able to use this as well but I have not tested it as I don't have one of these devices.
I made two version, a free and a pro version. The free version will allow you to install a custom launcher and the Android market. Beyond that I'm asking for ~1.00 for the pro version (Well I get $1.00 anyways after Googles cut) to help development and buy me some StarBucks
Tip: long press on items to remove them from your device.
Here are the links to both in the Android market:
Pro - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stericson.KindleFree_License
Free - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stericson.KindleFree (I just published this one so it may not be up yet...)
I've also attached the free one as well.
Please let me know what you guys think and if you want to see more added to this.

When you replace the launcher it breaks the kindle book app. You can install the play store version but you lose the built in book store. If you update the Kindle mobile app it breaks the Amazon store search. This is on the 8.9 BTW.

The Amazon Apps are designated for otter. Which I assume is the device codename. The play store versions don't cooperate with the fire framework.
Do not update amazon books, music, shop or it will mess up compatibility! my idea for update warning

Thanks for the comments guys, I made some updates and uploaded the new version.
I bought the paid version even though I didn't need it (pretty much have Google and Nova fully installed already), but I'm looking forward to more options.
Just a suggestion, but maybe you could add more Google apps to it, like Google+? The Play Store pretends that Google+ isn't compatible so it won't allow you to download it, but it side loads just fine. There's a lot of apps like that, unfortunately, so maybe a build prop edit shortcuts could also be added, like one to mimic a more universally accepted tablet and one to quickly return to Kindle Fire HD for stubborn apps. These would obviously be for the paid version.
Also for the paid version, maybe you could add the voice search framework and apps too.
There's a ton of potential for this app, thanks for putting it together!

Just google the googleplay.apk download it to the device and open it with a file manager,

How to get some free apps from GPlay without root.

Have you ever wanted to get an awesome free app from Google Play on the HDX but you just don't have root? Well that is actually easier than you might think at first. I hope this will be useful, personally I use this trick a lot.
1.) Go to the google play store on the web and choose a free app (it only works with free apps)
2.) copy the URL and paste it in the search bar of the following website:
apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/
3.) click generate download link.
4.) choose which app you want to download the apk with.
5.) then click open file, and then hit install.
6.) Play the game!
I use this trick to download stuff that isn't on the Amazon market but is free, like the Buzz launcher and other games. I hope this helped someone, and thanks.
I think most of the xda users will know how to do similar things, but maybe there is a new guy out there who doesn't. like me half a year ago!

Cool, thanks man.Never thought of that, but I never had an advanced phone- no need. For my uses a nokia brick is good enough.
Or just sideload 1mobile market. no root needed for it to work just for the apps it cna download that need root just like normal playstore it has all the free apps that google play does. I assume its similar to those apk downloaders out there but just does it on the device and in an interface that works well and even allows searching and the like.
