[Q] LG G2 NFC transfer becomes bluetooth after kitkat update HELP - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

LG G2 NFC transfer becomes bluetooth after kitkat update HELP
everything started after updating my phone to kitkat 4.2.2
every time i send a file it will automatically turn on the paired phone's bluetooth and send the file via bluetooth, sending takes long because it is sent via bluetooth instead of NFC
never had this issue before the update, had the same issue transferring files on 2 phones, one GalaxyNote3 and another LG G2.
please help

NFC is only used to negotiate (pair) between two devices -- it's always been that way, as NFC is very low-bandwidth. Actual transfers are accomplished via BT/WiFi. See:
en[dot]wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Near_field_communication#Bluetooth_and_Wi-Fi_connections
en[dot]wikipedia[dot]org/wiki/Android_Beam
If it wasn't done this way, given the size of many files, you'd need to keep the devices held together for the duration of the actual transfer. BT/WiFi eliminates that need.

but why did this just happen now just after the update? it was perfectly fine before the update

Files have never been transferred over the NFC link -- there's simply not enough bandwidth to do so. Perhaps older ROM versions didn't activate the BT icon, or maybe they used WiFi direct instead.

Data Plan-less Vogue

I got an HTC Touch from Verizon because I wanted to get away from the clutches of Verizon's lousy software they cripple every phone with and it was the cheapest WinMo phone they sold (I got it for $40.) I got the phone and stuck with my current plan ($10 add-on line on family plan.) I am cheap, my family is cheap, so we have no data plan. We can't afford a data plan, so gettign one is not an option (sorry, maybe someday in the future.)
Is there anything good I can do with my HTC Touch that doesn't require data? Is it worth flashing to a custom firmware? Is it worth installing Android? Or should I just forget it all and stick with the stock configuration?

Without data, you can text, call, listen to music, take pics, and download movies to the SD card from your computer.
Is this guy slow or something. You can do anything that doesn't use data, so the obvious things it can do were mentioned by the previous user. C'mon man, what a waste of time.
Well, actualy, pretty much anything "Android" is needing data, so stick with WinMo.
And then, you still has a GPS with Camera, music and video capacity. Pretty neat on it's own!

Well, the GPS isn't much good if you can't download maps.
You can still use it with TomTom or Garmin.
Ok, Android is out of the Question due to it's heavy reliance of data.
Is there a better Camera or video recording app than the one included? It takes decent photos, but the gallery is pokey. Video recording is lousy quality no matter what setting I put it on (hoping to get QVGA resolution at 15-25fps.)
If I want to use GPS, is TomTom or Garmin better? Which flash file is best for allowing use of GPS without Verizon navigator or some add-on service.
Also, is there any flash that helps to minimize memory card corruption? I have an 8GB microSD card and it seems to corrupt anytime I write files through the phone. I can take it out and use an adapter to load music and movies, but installing apps is usually the death of the card.
Sorry if I sound like a rookie, I have messed with RAZR flashing and game console soft-modding, but not much Windows Mobile experience.

I am with you brother as VZW BLOWS!!! Unfortunately that is who my work plan & I don’t have a choice. I was going to buy a Touch Pro without a data plan but the pricks wouldn’t activate the phone without a data plan which I still fail to understand.
I believe that NFSFAN’s 6.5 ROM does have a slightly better camera & video camera option. It is the same software & only the registry settings are tweaked.
GPS is whole another issue & be prepared to do a lot of reading. Again you are going to want to use NFSFAN’s ROM for GPS. Just trust me on this one. GPS will work with the stock ROM but you will have to soft reset your phone every time you want to use it. These threads should help you out.

I have not had any memory card issues. I take mine out & put it back in all the time. I could be just that you have a bad card. Some of the Kingston cards do have this issue.
Also note that flashing a custom ROM will void whatever warranty you may have.
I'm not too worried about the warranty, if I was I wouldn't be here!
Anyhow, sounds like I will get the best mileage out of flashing the NFSFAN WinMo 6.5 ROM and then activating the GPS ala instructions found on this forum and a wiki page I found while searching around.
I still need to read up a bit about the flashing process. I flashed a few RAZRs to play around, but they weren't activated and the process for WinMo is quite different.
For very cheap you can also get a usb bluetooth for your computer, then setup activesync via bluetooth, which will provide you pass-through internet over bluetooth while in range and connected to activesync via bluetooth. That means while in your home (generally in the same room) as a the bluetoothed computer, you will be able to use any internet services on the phone as well.
Is there a guide to setup passthrough internet via bluetooth with ActiveSync?
I already have bluetooth built into my laptop (it's a Macbook Pro, running Windows 7 for for ActiveSync and gaming) so essentially it would be free, but I don't want to accidentally go on Verizon's data (I am on the pay-per-MB plan because I signed up online and couldn't choose no data.)

If you're willing to come off of VZW, another possibility is PagePlus. It is prepaid and uses the VZW network. You can stay on it for as little as $4/mo.
As far as data... You can do pay as you go for data, OR, the service gives you free QNC (free slow data), but you have to figure out how to get your device to use QNC (14kbs). People have successfully used PP QNC with Treos, Moto Q's and HTC 6700's.
I believe there is an app that allows you to toggle data usage on your phone so you can avoid getting charged by accidentally using data. I believe it is linked in Codybear's FAQ and you may need a custom ROM for it to work.

I am in the same situation! I purchased the phone 2 months ago and I just wanted a smartphone i.e. something to download programs on to that I don't have to pay for. I really like NFSFAN's winmo 6.5 ROM. The latest version is very good and I would consider flashing. Btw Stock config really sucks at least flash to something aesthetically pleasing!

You mean like Android? (No, android isn't flashable yet, but it can be booted from any GPS-enabled WM ROM.)
Android is good, I'm running it on my Vogue. I don't have a data plan either... and Android really makes you wish you had one.
A good program for WinMo for those without data plans is SmartTouch. It gathers all sorts of SMS services into one and does all the Google SMS stuff, Facebook, IM, Yellowpages, etc. I have unlimited texts and no data so when I was using WinMo I relied on that a lot.
You guys are gonna kill me, but I don't have texting either. I got to choose the phone and have no say over the plan. I have pay-per-text and pay-per-data. My plan is the standard $10 add-on line for FamilyShare 700min basic plan. We have 5 lines total, so we are pinching pennies hence no text or data.
On a side note, I seem to be having trouble finding a guide/sticky on how to flash NSFAN's 6.5 ROM and setup my phone after the upgrade to use it on Verizon (I know with RAZRs you had to do some crazy crap with reprogramming and Seem edits and such, which I never did get since I only flashed a de-activated phone.) I know it deals with something RUU or RRU or something. Any pointers are appreciated!

how can i do this!? my phone only need bluetooth correct? because the sprint vogue "doesn't have" wifi
You need to buy a USB "Bluetooth Dongle" for your PC. This will allow your PC and phone to connect via the PAN (Personal Area Network) capabilites of the Bluetooth stack.
Bluetooth dongles are incredibly cheap thru Amazon. It is a little quirky to set up but works great.
Buy the dongle and install the drivers.
Install ActiveSync.
Turn on the your phones Bluetooth and make it visible.
Go to ActiveSync on your phone and under "menu" select "connect via bluetooth"
Now you may need help figuring out how to make it all connect, but do the above first... then ask questions if you are unable to get it to setup correctly.
I have this setup working flawlessly on my Samsung i760...
I will admit I am having trouble getting the Vogue to connect "flawlessly", but that is likely due to the "quirkiness" of this kind of connection.

how to download or send any file with BT on the LG Optimus7

hi!
I use LG Optimus 7, I would have to ask that kind of experience with BT can not I download or send any file. If someone has let me write or whether there is a program that must be inserted into the phone
Greeting
This is not possible at the moment on any WP7 phone and there are also no apps that allow this.
Using Bluetooth for file transfer is simply not possible on any WP7 phone as of now. Hopefully this will be adresses in one of the upcoming software updates between now and fall 2011 (along with a file explorer of some kind). However, there are other methods, some legit, other requiring unlock that will allow this, and many are in the works. We should see a lot more hacking by the end of January, all of which would probably be broken with the first update ((
Here is the response I got from LG (UK) on the issue of bluetooth file transfer -
The LG E900 handset currently does not currently support the bluetooth profiles needed to connect and transfer with various devices. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause. We can however confirm that within the next few months the handset will receive an update that will allow these features to be accessible.

The update in the coming months...possibly the second update in the first half of 2011? That sounds like good news...

Downloading via 3G and interruptions

Hey, recently I've been making use of my unlimited data plan and been downloading everything via 3G. A few questions.
My 4.3 update downloaded automatically via 3G. Could that have caused a problem, or is it perfectly fine to use 3G as opposed to wifi - even though it's slower. Same with downloading and updating apps?
Secondly, when I'm downloading something, and I get a text or a call or something, could that harm the download?
And how do I set custom ringtones from my music?
Anyone?

I download and update apps though 3G sometimes and its fine if you have uninterrupted network all the time.Sometimes if you resume and restart a download due to bad network the downloaded file might turn out bad.
As far as i know,2g / edge stops when you are making a voice call.3G allows both data and voice at the same time.So no harm in that.
Create a folder called " Ringtones " in the sdcard with a file explorer.Paste your music file in that.It will show up in the ringtones list.
If you are rooted, you can push the music files to system/media/ringtones.
Okay cool thanks. Wasn't sure because I've been doing EVERYTHING over 3G, and my 4.3 update downloaded over 3G - without me knowing - and was wondering if there's any problems downloading over 3G, you see.
Thanks, though I managed to do it via an app, 'Ringer Extended'; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.angryredplanet.android.rings_extended&hl=en_GB

[Q] WiFi Troubles?

Ok before I begin with this thread I'd like to say although I'm a new user, I have been on XDA for quite some time. My old account information has been lost.
Basically, my WiFi on my SGS4 I9505 is working when I'm at home, but I can't connect to the one at work. It used to work flawlessly, connected without me clicking the buttons, but now it says "Connecting" then straight back to "Saved"
What have I tried?
- New roms, different Android releases
- Searching forums
- Completely re-flashing the stock firmware via Odin
- Multiple modems via Odin
No matter what I do, I can connect at my home modem but not my work one, all of my work colleges are connected, I've had my friend try connect it (he was the man who introduced me to flashing ect) and he hasn't a clue.
Any advice would be appreciated & the reason I'm creating an entirely new thread is due to the fact my WiFi works at home so it's not just a bug there. Thanks.

Same exact thing happening to my S4 SPH-L720 (Sprint). Using NegaliteROM 4.4
Tried:
-Re-flashing ROM
-Updating PRL & Profile
-"Forget Network" and re-typed password (confirmed with IT dept password hasn't changed)
- Cleared google account ("Backup and reset" portion) then re-synced after failed login.
And as irscotty stated, wifi works EVERYWHERE else and it just goes straight to "Saved Secured"
Is there a way to reflash the Wifi card to an older Firmware? I don't recall updating it manually, and I believe that is the only way to update it (correct me if i'm wrong). If so, is this even advisable....
Thanks
The only other thing I can think is perhaps the contract provider has cut down the WiFi limitations?
Not sure if that's even possible but every other modem I connect to is just a few feet away, the one at work is perhaps 5-8 metres. But was working 100% prior to this, and the signal strength is saying "Strong" just wont connect

Yeah I'm literally 1 yard away from the router. What do you mean by cutting down on limitations? Blocking the amount of mac id's from the router homepage ?
No it has been known in the past for your data providers to cut down your WiFi range to force you into using their data, as opposed to WiFi.
Although to my knowledge, this can only be done through an OTA update on the original software (not custom)
My current solution to this is by changing my Mac address and have successfully logged back in. Seems like was I indeed being blocked. But have no confirmation yet. I use a program called MacChanger (requires root) and hard change my ID when I'm at work. Has been working for a few days now.
Good luck

WiFi truly sucks on this phone. Keeps disconnecting
I've already tweeted to T-Mobile and John Legear to let me return my phone I've had enough we're not getting an unlocked boot loader and we're not getting root
I have this issue with Wi-Fi on 2.4 Ghz, but only with certain things like downloading files from the playstore or local network file transfers. However, streaming media doesn't seem affected which makes it even more strange. At least turning off Bluetooth is a work around for now, not sure if it's a defect or software update can resolve this issue. All appears normal on 5ghz with Bluetooth enabled. Very unusual.

As for wifi issues with Bluetooth,i have not noticed any yet and I keep my Bluetooth on pretty much 24/7.
