[Q] LG LS980 big problem - bricked? D801 firmware - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a big problem with LG G2 from Sprint (LS 980). I've bought on eBay for using in Europe. When I bought it, one of very few optionw to use it for GSM carriers was flashing Justin's ROM - it is stock T-Mobile ROM modified for Spint G2. Everything worked well except NFC.
After some time new (and permament) method for unlocking Sprint G2 arrived, so I wanted to do it that way. I've made factory reset on my LS980 (with D801 T-Mobile ROM from Justin), but I didn't know, that I had to go to recovery (Vol - plus Power) for wull wipe and didn't do that. My phone is now in bootloop (T-Mobile animation goes still around ) and phone doesn't boot up. I don't know how to get it back to stock.
What works:
Download Mode (Vol + and Power), Unknown Mode (All three keys together) - there are options ON, OFF and Cancel (Answer Call and something with alarm)
What doesn't works:
Fastboot, recovery, boot
I've tried to get into recovery many times, but with no luck. I've also followed many instructions how to get it back to stock. As the main manual I took this topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960
Sure that with Sprint LS980 flash files.
It is basically same as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Everything went pretty well until flashing part. LG Flash Tools don't want to flash my phone because of model number mismatch ...I have LS980, but it thinks that I have D801 (T-Mobile version).
It there anyway from this mess?
Thanks for every suggestion.

Not a bad idea, but Verizon and Sprint models don't use KDZ files if I'm right.
THX anyway

And i have some ides
You may use dll from other kdz and flash with your tot file
If you have luck will be ok
If is not i may say it is about you
Sent from my LG-D802 using xda app-developers app

And if I don't have luck, I will completely brick my phone
From which KDZ file should I obtain .dll file? Sprint version doesn't use KDZ files ...and using .dll file from KDZ for other version is not a good idea I think...

dont give up

I have reshearch and found dll from kdz is a free dll and i found your model number LS980 on My d802 kdz dll
First you should try reset by your recovery mode
If no luck and try using dll frm VS980 kdz first or use dll from d802 kdz
And if you have vs980 kdz dll please send it to me
i will check your model number on it

...dude. I have LS980 model and D801 ROM in it...So T-Mobile software (modified) in Sprint LG G2. Not D802, which is international, or VS980, which is for Verizon.
And I'm not able to get into recovery, I've tried it maybe 1000 times
I'm also pretty sure, that information about correct and same .dll and TOT or KDZ files written in "Back to stock" topics is written there for very good reasons

You have luck
To day I can flash lg D820( N5 ) tot firmware in to my LG D802 using my dll from d802 kdz format
It is a free dll
Try to flash your lS980 tot with d802 kdz dll
Good luck

As I expected...LG Flash Tool won't let you do this, because it will find out that model number in DLL and TOT file is different ...I've just tested it.
KDZ extractor is also useful, because TOT files don't contain .dll

I've tested many combinations of .dll files with no luck.
D801 dll file + LS980 TOT file = error in different BIN a DLL file
LS980 dll file + LS980 TOT file = error in different model numbers
8974 dll file + LS980 TOT file = error "Cross DL D801 to LS980"
When I look at the phone in Download Mode, it shows D801 10c firmware.

Are u using dll from kdz file ?

dll from kdz should name as LgUp_XXXX
IN you error cross dl d801 to ls 980 just like me when i have try flash d820 tot to my d802
it show me cross dl d802 to d820
but i have change my model namber in build prop to d820 and it flash ok
let try d801 kdz dll and d801 tot
It will replase all partion on your phone and your phone will stuck on fastboot mode and yout download mode will gone
After
let erase your laf.img and reflash your own laf.img to get your download mode back
after you re get your download mode
just flash your phone with your ls980 tot and dll given with your tot file
It will be ok
I am not a rich man but i never afraid my phone will 1000% brick and will lose it
You too do not afraid
You can try any Of your idea
if you are not hid your phone with hummer
Your phone will never brick

Sprint USA need True tot file and dll
LGLS980_20130925_LGFLASHv151.dll
LS980ZVA_01.zip

There are no true dll files since Sprint version uses TOT files and these files don't use dll
Anyway...I've tried all combinations and also Sprint files...no luck...I wrote it maybe three times in this topic

Still no progress with the phone, any ideas?
I am considering LG autorized services, maybe they could help...

I have the exact same issue and I have been working on it for a week straight. I have tried every combination of everything possible and no luck yet. I have even tried flashing it to think it is the d802 to no avail.
I understand if it were possible to edit the build prop to be the ls980 that it would actually work but im stuck on how to do that as the only way I can get the phone to boot is in an environment where I have no adb or keyboard and the phone reboots every 30 seconds so its basically impossible to edit that.
that might be a possibility for you if you want to give it a shot but for me I suppose ill have to keep looking.

there are several different methods which have worked for other people so I don't know if you have tried any of those methods but if not definitely do some digging around.
as far as mine I haven't worked on it for several days I've just been thinking about it and I have not going a solution yet.

Make sure you don't have it charging when trying to go into recovery.
Sent from my LG-LS980 using xda app-developers app

Fixed it
Check this out.
I decided to reinstall the only firmware I could... this caused random reboots, sometimes 30seconds... sometimes a few minutes.
During a reboot,I put the settings app on my first Jellybean screen (while rebooting, it was easier to get to). Then, go activate Developer mode, then put on USB debugging, and plug phone in... Mine was a little jinky, so I had to take USB out a few times, try to enable... what you are looking for is a prompt that says Allow this computer (type of thing).
Mine had a checkmark box, which said ALWAYS allow. So, that's what i did, and hit ok. After than you should be able to get into recovery.
This is the file I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545456
and mounted SYSTEM.... now, to install recovery, was a little problematic. I used this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545456
And, all the recoveries failed, (they have 4 options). Tried all of them, finally phone rebooted into PHILZ.
adb reboot recovery (I used this command, since I thought it was catch recovery better)
In Philz, I had ADB Access, so I just left it there (besides phone doesn't reboot).
in commandline (I am a linux user), I typed:
adb shell
cat /system/build.prop
Which allowed me to see the file
Then, in another commandline window, I typed:
adb push /build.prop /system
Now, your /build,prop might be in a different location, so don't use mine exactly.
:crying:
Hope that helps!!! When you are done, make sure you tell recovery to boot you into download mode -- this isn't required, but for me it was easier.
There, you should see the LG G2 build type, when you plug in the phone and start LGFLASHT (tOOLS.
Remember, I used the LGUP_8XXX.dll (the one for trouble)
and, the NEWER TOT, not the one in the package (it's above the package one).

[Q] [REQ] DLL for flashing D805 10B TOT file through LG Flash Tool 1.6 - Please help

Guys, I really need to find the LG DLL file database for flashing .TOT files.
The DLL file I need is for the LG G2 D80510B_00 or LG G2 D80510A_00 TOT file firmwares, to be used on 1.6 LGFlashTool, for Brazil unbranded variant of the phone. I believe it will work for all D805 models.
The .TOT file I intend to use is LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G+0.tot
I have scoured the internet for over a week and found none other than in a chinese LG G2 forum, the link -- http://bbs.gaodi.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=662769&extra=page=1&filter=typeid&typeid=2381 -- and the file was no longer available for download. I registered on their forum, but the file was showing an error even after proper registration.
I have not found this DLL anywhere, is there a database for it? How did people come up with the AT&T and Vzn DLL versions? I haven't been able to extract it from the KDZ files either, and the DLLs generated from the KDZ during UpdateTool does not work.
I had bricked the phone originally by trying to use Scott's Clean Rom on it, and it bricked into fastboot mode. I flashed something wrong on fastboot, I can't even remeber what, and rebooted, and fastboot was no longer accessible...
I can get into download mode, and factory reset from stock recovery, no custom recovery available, it is gone. I try to flash KDZ files, many versions besides my D805 one, just for the sake of trying, but all of them get stuck on the 49% point. I have set up port 41, disabled modem, reset phone before trying, selected many different language combinations besides my own Portuguese one. Nothing works.
On LGFlashTool 1.6 it seems like it can work, but it errors at 1%, when I use the DLLs for D800 or D802. I need the DLL for D805. I even managed to find the proper TOT file.
I have also searched for about two days on how to reenter fastboot mode from where I currently am stuck.I even did a DIY Factory Cable on an micro USB I had lying around, soldered it all right, but it did not work, and the cable got very hot. I think these cables will not get G2 into fastboot mode, like it seems to do on Kindle fire and Motorola devices. Maybe my DIY was not that good, but I think it should have worked, I made sure the soldure was set and good.
I am downloading Android SDK to try to get back into fastbood mode from there, if there is a way, as it seems to be. I would try to reflash boot and other partitions in an attempt to fix my phone... Is there a way, or another faster path back into Fastboot?
Download mode does not show the version of the firmware on the phone in the box that displays information in the bottom while fdlashng KDZ files. It leaves a blank line where it should be. I believe it is part of my problem, that LGFlashTool does not see a version on the phone at some point, and fails. Or the phone rejects the PC pushes.
I am almost going to the tech support guy with a flash box downtown, but that would be my last resot, and then official LG support, if all else fails. I don't want to go to LG yet because download mode shows ROOTED in red, and they would see it probably, and my warranty become void.
Thanks for any ideas, guidance or help... Cheers guys.
Read this carefully may help you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595
Yeah, that was the guide I used when I landed on fastboot after a bad flash from CleanROM... I flashed some boot.img and recovery.img that didnt work out well.
After I flashed these I rebooted and fastboot mode was no longer loading, instead, I am now on bootloop of the LG logo, with no animation, just the first logo that shows on boot, and I can access stock recovery to factory wipe and also access download mode. My download mode shows rooted warning, and while I am flashing a KDZ, does not show the firmware version I currently have in the middle of the box - before I flashed those .IMGs, it did show the version.
I now a, after a .DLL for D805 10A .TOT file, and I cannot find it. I think the flash method from LGFlashTools 1.6 will work, with .DLL and .TOT files, where the LGFlashTools 1.0.5 did not work for me, with .KDZ.
Or if anyone knows of a way to get into the fastboot mode for G2, pelase let me know. Then I could reflash some .IMG files and hopefully get my phone back online...
Try to flash other version even this is 802 or internetional version. At least you can proof your phone completly brick or not.
I only have all TOT file link of F320 and D802 if you need to try.

I took long to post this, sorry, I had some interner problems...
Turns out there's already a thread explaining how to do it.

I went to LG Mobile Support Tool and >Options on top right >Update Recovery.
It had to download, so I did it at a friend's who had 50Mbps internet house, to fix this.
I am sorry that I could not manage to do it offline. I even had the KDZ file to flash, but it was only possible through this option in LG Support Tool...
Best of luck to all in any similar problem, I know I was kinda without hope at some points. I spent 2 weeks trying to fix the phone.

Thanks to all that tried to help me! I appreciate it a lot! Thank you so much!
My only solution was to try short the capacitors following this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/lg-g2-unbrickable-fix-real-hard-brick-t2904404
Thanks God I don't need to mess with the board!
My problem was that I tried this ROM LineageOS 17.1 with latest version of TWRP Blastgator. Everything was running fine until I flashed Magisk and installed some Mods, then the device rebooted and I get stuck at logo!
No System and no Recovery access, only Download mode! :crying:
Then I followed this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
I used to install some custom ROMs like Cloudy G2, LineageOS, Resurretion Remix and AOSPX Pie and tried to this new one. I never had any problems!
This time I realized that my device was forever bricked, my last hope was to short the capacitors but I tried all ways to back to Stock because in Downlaod Mode my device was recognized by Windows.
I tried this in Windows 10 x64 but no success, then I formatted an old HD with Windows 7 x64 to try again!
Old Flash Tool get me stuck at 2% or 4%... no success in both system with all LG drivers available... NO SUCCESS!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53313255&postcount=5400
LGUp only gives Unknow Device and never start but it's seens the device on port 41 - that I changed following the tutorial.
My last hope was New Flash Tool but I needed TOT file for my Device - D805 not D802 and the correct DLL. initially I didn't find anywhere... Like this guy:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2583851
I give a lot of tries... a lot of different files, DLLs, tried .KDZ and .DZ, only errors and errors... a lot of "Failed to Load()"...
I'm getting frustrated until I see this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
And found this mine of gold of Downloads:
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/
And again, thanks to all, there is a hope in the D805 folder!
I get the TOT File: BIN_LGD805AT-00-V10a-724-05-AUG-23-2013-16G.zip and tried the LG Firmware Extractor (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575) to get a new DLL (LGUP8974.dll).
And voilĂ , like a charm that WORKED!!!!!!!!! :fingers-crossed::highfive:
It installed Jelly Bean the with the Official LG Updater I installed Kitkat and finally Lollipop.
Later I'll try this LineageOS Rom again!
I hope I can help someone in need like me!!
I thank this forum a lot!!
And please excuse my English!
Thank you so much!

accident flash D803 to D801 lol

hi everyone
if your like me and like to flash and flash stuff by accident things that shouldnt be on your varient lol. (my phone is D803 rogers and i managed to flash t-mo onto it and got stuck in fastboot mode. no download mode no recovery possible at all at this point no matter what button sequence i tried instantly fastboot)after hours of research and trial and error. i managed to use a couple programs that helped me boot my phone D803 which now thinks its a D801 and fully boots as T-mo and at this point it booted and my simcard is not a proper sim it says.
anyways the story is i was able to create a zip that turned my D803 which turned into a D801 back into a D803 and save my fastboot bricked device woohoo.
if any1 needs info on how this was done i will write it down when i have a little more time on my hands.
and also i will thank all the people i can that made the forums and tools that were needed for this to be done.
thanks Jester

D803 question
Hey, kind of related... I'm considering upgrading to the G2 (from Samsung GS2 LTE aka: skyrocket) but i noticed that there isn't a 'D803' or 'rogers' section in the forums. So if i want to flash a custom OS, which versions should i be using? 802? are there dedicated 803 roms and I'm just not seeing them?
Any info would be appreciated.

most roms youll see d800/801/802/803 etc. most cm and aosp are fine i found. just dont do any off the stock kitkat flashing. thats what i did and i got lucky once... i fixed it. but the second time i killed my phone
this site has a few roms made for d803 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2611749
Hey what's up. I had this issue happen to me and it was a big pain for me to fix and there is no official fix. This is what I did in order to fix it. You basically need to adb pull your build prop end change the model number to your original number and place it back on your SD card and change your system over to rewrite able and push the new build prop to your system and bam!!!!! Fixed

hi everyone
if your like me and like to flash and flash stuff by accident things that shouldnt be on your varient lol.

The DLL doesn't work for the d800 I know that for a fact but not sure about the other models

im guessing my issue was a bit different. as i couldnt even get a download mode.
what i did was use
fastboot used erase laf then flashed all the ones im gonna mention. d803 laf.img flashed that and since i was already flashing laf i flashed all the rest i could find such as recovery aboot etc.follow this thread to do all this if you have lost download mode and but have it stuck in fastboot mode
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477595 thanks to cms88168 for this step by step. just download all images for your device. mine was d803 so i downloaded all d803 imgs.
then you can head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483043 and get the DLL file he has made which works with any version i tried 801-802 and 803 tot file. . thanks to AndroidUser00110001 for making this dll file.
you will need to get your model tot file and LGflashtool which can be found it the thread posted above. but please make sure you have your proper tot file. flash that and your good to go. sorry im sure my instructions are all over but should be in right order. im just used to doing not explaining for others. good luck and hope you fix your device

I have optimus G pro 2 build, no recovery mode, the touch screen is off so it's difficult for me to maneuver around the phone, I can get it into USB debugging mode, I'm not sure if the factory reset remove the root or not. when I hold all three buttons volume up volume down and power key it goes into this mode asking me if I want to use the volume keys to answer the phone. as I think of the rest of the problems I will post them. thanks in advance

Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
Not sure but try this http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flash-unbrick-lg-g2-back-to-stock.html
What is your g2 model number
If your g2 is ls980 and lg flash tool think it is d802 try flash with d802 tot file first
note . You must use dll from kdz firmware
Extract dll from kdz using kdz extractor
Dll name must name as LGUP_XXXX
Flash with d802 tot
After you g2 will force to fastboot mode
That fastboot we need
If u are on fastboot
eras your recovery and flash your original laf.img using fastboot (You can find this tut by google suck as lg g2 fastboot)
that will make your download mode came back and now u can flash with your ls980 tot firmware without error

I've never tried that with ls980, but I've done it with my vs980 a bunch of times. Should work the same for ls980.

ok thanks for the reply. I just got my g2 2 days ago wasn't paying attention and pulled a dummy move and formatted data instead of formatting system and erased everything off the phone. erased my nandroid, efs, etc. I still have twrp but since my efs partions are gone my thinking was I should just go back to stock. I could side load but I really wanted to figure this out so if I ever have a warrenty issue I will know how to get the phone back to out of box stock. I got the phone brand new with LS980ZVA on it. any suggestions? should I side load? what about efs? also I don't mean to hijack this thread. thanks for any help in advance

I've done the exact same thing that you did and I found it was easier to revert back to stock but I guess it depends on how familar you are with the process of doing so. It's definately worth learning as well. Plenty of good forums on how to do it.

ok I appreciate the advice, but all I can find is a LS980ZV7.tot. not a LS980ZV8.tot or a LS980ZVA.tot. ive been researching this literally for hours and hours now. my brain hurts. what I really want to know is if I do the LS980ZV7.tot, go that route, will I be able to get back to LS980ZVA (latest update) thru OTA update? also how do I know the .tot file I have is the 32g and not the 16g? that's making me nervous. ive read where quite a few people have done this and thought they were using the 32g version or whatever and they flashed and then their phone was only 16g and lost the 16g of storage. idk man. im coming from a lg optimus g and the development over there on that phone and procedures and all of that is way more easier to understand and cut and dry. over here on the sprint g2 as far as trying to find clear answers, its just not as easy I guess. maybe im not looking in the right places.

updating to LS980ZV8 as I type. super stoked. the link u posted @stillwaiting255 is the post I had been reading over and over again all day long. lol. so just for anyone interested once u go back to ZV7 stock u can then update OTA to ZV8 then ZVA.
I don't have twrp or any custom recovery :banghead: why wont mines fixxxxx

here is a stock ZV8 http:slahslashdownloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/LS980/Stock_Firmware (Thank, autoprime), I know ZVA is floating around, just search and you should find it.
Also just a little piece of info I picked up along the way, I used the correct .dll (LGLS980_20130904_LGFLASHv151) and renamed it to the reported models .dll (LGUP_8974), after doing this LGFlash Tool then ran the update, as normal. best of luck!

stuck....ls980 thinks it is the d800

my ls980 thinks it is the d800 and I can't seem to flash it back to the ls980.
I flashed a custom ROM thru twrp and I got an error. I tried restoring the backup and the system partition would not mount. after poking around for quite some time I tried restoring the phone in download mode. apparently the computer thought it was the d800 and flashed the system for that phone. when it restarted I saw the at&t boot screen and when it started up it was not working correctly.
I put it back in download mode and tried flashing the phone again. the computer was sure it was the d800. then I tried flashing manually using the DLL intended to convert this and the tot file for the ls980. I get the error saying I can't convert from the d800 to the ls980.
I then tried flashing thru adb from both windows and linux. both say they cannot find the phone regardless how I try connecting.
since I flashed the factory files the phone will not start in recovery mode I have no clue why.
so now I have a phone that:
will not flash the ls980 tot file,
will not connect to adb,
and will not boot into recovery.
now what?

Dang dude. Harsh. I almost ended up in this same situation after downloading files for the wrong device and noticed literally at the last second and was able to pull the plug, literally, and save my device.
I've been looking for ways to fix it in case it happens again and I don't catch it in time, so if I find the answer I'll let you know. There has to be a way to trick the computer into thinking it's a LS980 like it's supposed to be the same way it thought the phone was a d800.

I was told that there was a DLL file that could be used when flashing it to trick it into thinking it's the ls980 but all I get is an error message I forget exactly what the message says but something to the extent that I don't have the right files for the phone that I have.

yo man have you tried using LGNPST, we're in the same boat, i'm waiting for my some downloads on firmwares to try, i'm using LS980 but it thinks it's a VS980 still working on figuring out from my end. i've also heard that the LG mobile support tools can be used to restore the firmware but you gotta do some funny hot swap lol

woops im a little slow here. what is LGNPST ? I solved the issue by manually editing the build.prop file and that tells the lg mobile support tool that it is a different phone. that was a whole different complicated story of its own but it worked.
sorry I didnt see your comment until now.
def sounds like you used the wrong dll or just the stock lg dll which works with some phones, but others need their specific dll to match the tot and such to make a proper bootloader flash over i believe.

LG Flash tool doesn't detect model, please help.

As you read. After a whole day of searching non-stop from day 'til night, I finally give up and ask for help.
I've tried to flash a Lollipop ROM, which resulted in my LG G2 D800 having a soft brick.
I already had this issue once, so I knew what I had to do. I used a Kitkat 20c TOT package to return to Stock Kitkat. However, I kept recieving an error;
Device Model Unknown, Check Model or DLL. Or something similar. Upon my first search, I found out about the custom DLL.
So I tried it. But I get another error; CrossDL [Unknown] to [D800]. I tried 3 different DLL files, modified the TOT file (Hex Editor paste write)
I also ended up flashing some img files I don't remember which post it was exactly, but it was from here.
My device no longer boots up, it gives me, however, the option to either reboot or go directly to download mode once I power it on.
Please note; before and after the img flashing. I kept having the same issue.
So in short, I have no idea of how to flash the tot file because it keeps giving me a Device Model error. It there truly a way for the LG FLash tool (1.8.1 I think) to simply ignore what model it is before flashing?
Also, I tried this on another computer, but no luck, same result. I'm doing this on my PC with a Virtual Machine (I run Linux Mint as a Main OS) so I'm truly unsure if it's that, though the first time I did it when I first had the issue, it worked just fine...
Any ideas, suggetions?
Edit :: Another reason why I'm posting this is because a lot, if not all people with a D800 with this issue, their posts are either ignored or discontinued. So if I get this fixed, I'll make sure to specify how I did.

Did you flash that g4 port ROM you were looking at? That wasn't for the d800.

I actually flashed This ROM
The first time I had this issue, it was because, I flashed CloudyG2 3.3.
Both the D800 Variants of the ROMs
It seems the issue is that I didn't have the kitkat bootloader (though, my device has Kitkat by default, so, why does it have this issue?)
