[Q] Galaxy S4 Clone MT6572 Help and Advice - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone. Congratulations for the wonderful forum you have here.
Before you read my post i suggest you arm yourselves with some pop corn/ tortilas/ chips/ because i will keep you here for a while.
I have searched for quite a long time and tried a couple of things which i found in the forum but didn't work before i ended up signing up and posting..i might have missed the right answer, so please forgive me if i did.
A friend of mine accidentally bought a fake/clone galaxy s4. (Phone info on first photo)
When he came to show it to me i could see that the phone was running really slowly and laggy (lot of fps drops even when sliding through the apps pages), and despite that he only managed to put just one application which was less than 500kb, he would constantly get the message of 'low storage' so he had to delete it to free up some space. I checked his storage through phone settings and he had total space 16GB and from these, 13GB would be used up by apps but since he hasn't downloaded so many apps yet it seemed illogical. Same goes with the phone storage, 16.53 GB total space and despite this it would show that he has used up a lot of it on apps pictures videos etc. We hadn't taken any photos yet so it is again weird. Please have a look at the second and third screenshots. (i also put a 4gb sd card which was almost empty, and it would show that i inserted a 16gb sd card which had about 2 gb free memory :/ )
So i offered to try to format the memory and do a factory reset. I did it since i had some experience with my galaxy s2 which is original.
Guess what, it would show the same storage as if i never touched it, run really slow, PLUS 23 hours a day there is no signal and can't make any phone calls. And even if there is little signal once i try to make a phone call the signal gets lost.
I have managed to download cpu z and hardware info and as you can see from the rest of the screenshots the actual storage is 137 MB internal and 12 MB (!) external.
What is going on exactly with this phone? How can i make the phone run faster and not so annoyingly slow and laggy? How can i get the signal back to normal? And is there a way to make the memory be 16GB for real? Maybe this firmware is 'masking' the phone's true memory capacity? Or is it really just 137MB and there is no way to expand it's capacity? Maybe a root or some new firmware? The only experience i have with rooting is with my original galaxy s2 so if there is such a solution please tell me in detail the procedure as i suppose it would be different from original phones. Looking forward for your replies. Thank you for walking with me so far.

Unfortunately xda doesnt offer any support for clones/fakes.

SORRY to confirm this a clone and we can't help you in any way.
no worry you surely paid for what you get. a good phone clone!

I have some expirience with S3 i9300 clone wich was almost identical to this one specs and after 2 days playing with it i can tell you this you cant install almost no apps on these phone and this is if the phone use some old android cause most of these replicas use some made up OS and only says android they cannot be rooted you cant do anything to improve it you can use them only to make calls well i guess you cant do even that with this one so better try to get your money back cause there is no hope for these clones

Thank you for your replies guys. So i guess it is not worth any more of my time.

I think mine started with 6.8-ish free. It's a T-Mobile one.

That's because it automatically has 5% reserved for phone content. Emails, photos, office docs, apps you want to download on the go etc. You can increase of decrease this amount in the zune settings. It's not really needed as you don't need any reserved space to do any of the above but it just acts like a buffer.
well i just spent the whole weekend converting all my MP3's from 256, to 128 bit rate, and i was suprised just how much space that has saved, i can live with the difference in audio quality,
one thing i will never advise is if you have over 400 albums to do this, its pain staking!
lol, anyway im happy with the phone, 600 songs on it and still 3gb ish left over!

Yeah, mine was about the same available space. It's more than enough for me
Yeah, just drop it down to 0% reserved and it still gives it around 600mb for all the apps/emails/pics ect, and leaves 6.5+GB for whatever else. I Sync daily whenever i'm charging and it takes them off the phone and syncs to online storage/skydrive ect so i can view pictures wherever in a browser. *love that feature*
I had a similar problem. I wiped and set it to 0% and it reserved 800MB. It's still sat at 0% but now it has reserved 1.4GB!
It's pretty bad that I have no way of reducing the reserved space. I can't set it less than 0%...
That is strange. Guessing you don't have over a GB of e-mails or pics or apps as apps/e-mail/pics ignore the reserved space i thought if needed and gos over the reserved space anyway.
Messing around with my phone today, seems to be Games that are using the reserved space, really annoying that they label it so oddly.
Based my findings on not being able to copy media to the phone as I was out of space, resetting everything I could find and no change but then eventually deinstalled some of my games and low and behold suddenly more storage was available.
Think I cocked up getting an 8Gb Omnia, thought it was 16Gb when I bought it but was my mistake so not much I can do.
Ho hum....
Think this OS has a real future but really depends on how MS approach the next update. If they lock it down and ignore feedback it ain't going anywhere, if they open it up a bit and listen to feedback they could get the stability that is missing from Android and add some real kick ass performance and functionality. MS - are you listening.....?
WP7 is new, and as i have said before i think cost is the issue, this phone has SAMOLED, 1ghz, *buckets of ram*, these are amazing devices you shouldn't mix up quaility with quantity.... this phone of the WP7 range is the only Nand style storage and is the way forward as it's getting large enough in a small enough space, but it's expencive for these devices *HTC took the cheap route as they know what "most" people want, even i love htc, but nand does it for me, 16 sec game load times, vs 40+ htc on SD storage*. Give it a while and cost will come down and storage will go up, This first wave of phones are built around the Zune function mainly for content. *delete, redownload. whay* no having to keep songs anymore on the device. 3G downloads, 2 min, got it again *fasttttt ziiiiiiip woooooolop*
Someone pose as Stephen Fry on the board and they will listen
But MS will i think listen this time as even him above said himself. "If MS listen they will go far this time around..."
So there is allot! of eyes on this one... and MS future image is at stake now i think so this isn't going to be a light battle from here out, There is LOTS of choices now, and between the heads of these corps a good few years of creative "fun" change is on the cards i'm guessing

UK DVP users - what are your experiences?

I ordered my DVP from Clove on Thursday and it arrived on Friday - I decided to go with them rather than Dell directly given the various communication issues people have had with Dell.
My DVP is 8GB - I'm assuming there is only one version of the phone for the UK market, I haven't seen any option to buy a 16GB version. So far, everything has worked smoothly - it came loaded with firmware .7350 if I remember correctly, I then got the prompt to upgrade to NoDo pretty soon after - that was done very quickly, nothing like the 23 minutes that Microsoft suggested.
All in all, I'm happy - no crashing whatsoever, interface is very smooth and quick, etc. My only complaint so far is the lack of custom ringtones - this should've been addressed in NoDo and its pretty obvious that Microsoft has held back on this to try and make money - the only simple alternative is to get ringtones from the Marketplace which Microsoft of course makes a commission on. Oh yeah, my other bugbear is the battery life - it's pretty horrendous, I'd say I struggle to get a day out of it! Is that normal?
These small things aside, I'm pretty happy with the DVP at the mo.... any other UK owners having a similar problem-free usage?
I am an Omnia 7 owner but I've been thinking about switching. Just a couple of points:
- Dell is selling the 16GB as far as I know, someone else can confirm that.
- Battery is something that improves overtime, you need to go through a few charging cycles. During the first days I would suggest letting the battery die before charging the phone rather than straight when you hit low power.
Can you comment on the issues the US phones are having (Wifi connection, poor camera, etc.). And also, is the SD card slot still accessible?
Cheers

I have the 16gb model (uk) which is the model dell sells directly. if you buy throgh a third party you can only get the 8gb model at the moment.
can good in light but poor in the dark (bluring)
the sd card has the black tape over it and the manual says not to remove it.
i only get crashes/hangs when downloading large files from the marketplace and when trying to download a video through the youtube apps.
I can't believe after all this time they're still producing the phone with the same camera issue. What have they been doing with all the feedback?! I know they have an upcoming update but it should have been one to fix the firsts phones with the new ones being flawless. Dell needs a good kick.

I can second the comments re the camera, it isn't particularly good in the dark.
I didn't realise that Dell was selling the 16gb model - and its only £20 more than what I paid for the 8gb. That said, if the difference is hangs and crashes I'm not sure if its worth it. Ganondolf, could you give me an example of what apps (or large files) you were downloading - I'd like to test and see if I have the same crashing. If I don't then I'll probably stick with the 8gb.

if happens alot when i download big apps live xbox live games 30 - 80mb in size. crashes/hangs abot 70% of the time. I have noticed if i leave it on the download status screen till it downloads and installs it crashes less.
small apps up to 10mb dont usually have a problem.
I also get it within the youtube apps as they have large files.
I am about 99% sure that it is the micro sd card as when download big files and i go to my apps list it sometimes does not show the app icon and only a dot like temp icon and sometimes apps wont load whilst downloading.
Also if download has a problem it buggers the wifi and needs to tuen the machine off and back on to fix. of note it does not need a battery pull to turn it off, holding down the power button for a long period (10 secs) turns it off.
I think it was a good thing you got the 8gb as i may need to swap the sd card meaning i will buy a 32gb card so it would not have been any different if i upgraded from a 8gb.
PS. I sent a msg to linoel at dell on twitter and he thinks i have the newest firmware and there will not be a new one released for the uk.
apart from that the dvp runs perfect so if a sd card swap will fix the problem i will do it in the near future.
So the newest firmware still has a rubbish camera. It's sorted then, I'll keep my Omnia 7 for now and see what comes at the end of the year.
hi guys im new to the dvp forum.
i have a dell venue that i bought online from a guy in USA which is unlocked. when i got the phone i noticed that the black sticker wasnt there so im guessing the guy attempted to swap the sd card....the phone works fine tho.
the problem i have is that it wont restart!! when i go to about >> reset your phone.. nothing happens. is there anyway to fix this?? i hope someone can help as i cannon download any apps from the market place and assign my facebook =(
thanks
There is no carrier to the UK DVP phone is it? That makes future update quicker. And I hope it has 512mb ram. Guess the US one did has 256mb ram, games crashes constantly on the US device, which seems not happen often on others.
The US one has 512MB RAM.
I don't want to start the discussion again. I believe it has 512 but currently only 256 is recongnised by the system, when the software uses above 90m ram it will crash by itself, ie some games. This doesn't happen to the htc mozart but happens to DVP. If you believe now it has 512 and its fully used then believe it, since it doesn't affect your usage.
In response to the 256 v 512 discussion - I certainly saw all of that discussion with the US DVPs. My UK DVP shows 480mb free and so is presumably recognising all 512mb RAM. Somebody else mentioned that the UK DVPs already have the new upcoming firmware preloaded - so maybe that's addressed the problem.
My battery life has also improved greatly - not sure whether it's because of going through some powering cycles or because I disabled both checking for updates and giving feedback, but its lasting a lot longer than before now.
I also have the 8g UK DVP model through expansys, mine also reads about 480m free so im assuming it has the 512ram. as well...
As for problems ive had none,
NO crashes,
No freezes and NO resets yet....
All in all im loving the DVP and the battery is good better than my HTC Desire that i have left behind without a second thought!!!!
I got my phone from Expansys and it is freezing constantly when using WiFi and downloading apps. Indeed 480 MB of RAM is reported.

Did you change the SD or you use the one comes with? I'm thinking to call expansys for exchange...
I have lots of freezes and hangs on my UK 16gb model (from dell.co.uk) when using wifi.
I changed the sd card to a sandisk 32gb class 4 (I here the class 2 version is best for dvp) and have not had a hang or freeze using wifi.
Works flawlessly know.

Question on your WiFi hangs.....I've been looking at WiFi issue. During the course of a day I may pass through and use, many different WiFi AP's. At home I made a modification of my AP and now the reception on my Dell is far better.
I'm wondering if the hardware in hte Dell is simply inferior....in a way that it works best with specific settings....as opposed to alot of devices that work fairly well regardless of the AP settings.
I've noticed the closer I get to a pure N setting, the better my device runs. The amount and length of feezes and hangs decrease as I approach that complete N mode.
People who experience the hangs and freezes at home. What are your AP settings?
Dont think it has anything to do with AP settings, my phone will crash without connecting to any wifi signal, just with wifi enabled.

Im using wifi g at home and work and it works with no problems. the only thing i would say the dvp wifi reciever does not go as far from the router before disconnecting than my brothers iphone 4 and my old xperia x1.
have not tried connecting it to wifi n but have not had any problems on wifi g.
What do you mean by "AP settings". are u talking about the phone or the router?
I've ordered a 32gb class4 sansicc from amazon.co.uk but it seems to be a fake one... It freezes the device even more than the original SD card. 3 months ago I had one from the same seller and it was ok, now still in my US DVP and works perfect. The 2 sds do look different. BE CAREFUL when you buy the sd card. Just too many fakes...

Any felt the need of sd card yet?

I'm thinking of buying LG Nexus 4 but before that i wanted to ask people whether they felt the need to have an extra card slot for the phone. Also how much out of 16 GB is available for personal use...any general comments about the phone itself would be helpful...
Cheers!

I think about 13 was available? A quick google might answer that question more precisely I'm not using the phone for music or lots of movies. I don't expect to run into difficulties in that area.
16gb is plenty,
NEXUS 4 USER
To be honest, 16GB is too much space for me. I have around 1.3 gigs of my dev stuff, some apps (NFS Most Wanted People complain all the time about how they need 32/64GB of storage but the only reason I can think of needing that much is for music and movies. You can stream those as well so it's not a big deal.

16GB is probably enough for most, but you can always get a wifi storage device if you need more.
i just bought a pqi air drive and put a 32GB class 10 sd card in it for movies/ music etc.

First of all, I don't own nexus 4 but a galaxy s3 with expendable micro sd slot. But I do want to get nexus 4 as well!!
From my personal usage, 16gig is simply not enough. I play lots of heavy games most of them from gameloft, each will take >1gig space and I do shot pictures videos and have tons of other applications installed as well.
I put videos, pictures and musics on sd card but still, only 2.3gig left on internal storage.
I know maybe vanilla android will be smaller than touchwiz but considering >10gig video and pictures that I have, 16gig just won't be enough .
Of course, you may not be like me and can use cloud storage. In the end, it's how you use your phone for the most, and regardless nexus 4 or other phones, it will be the same.

I've not installed any games yet, but I imagine once I do, the space will begin to go quickly. Music I'm less worried about, I stream mainly from YouTube etc. Video recording will be interesting though.
I would have preferred an SD card option, just because it's a fallback. An SD model would have probably convinced me to go for an 8GB N4, but no SD meant I had to go for the 16GB one.
The lack of OTG on this phone is a worry, but at the end of the day, considering the relative ubiquity of WiFi/3G internet in most developed countries, I don't think it's a big problem for streaming video, music etc, so really it's just games and what not that might be the struggle. I'm thinking of setting up a dropbox, (First time for me) which would be good for videos, and music and what not. I'm just not convinced of the price thats all. 2GB isn't very much, and as I have a pretty unlimited web server I could take advantage of that.

I m coming from SGS3 16Gb+32Gb mem card.
And I had to adjust. I have some music (had to choose what I m not listening to too often, haha).
About 1.5 Gb of nandroid+5/600 mb of rom and flashable stuff.
I ve had to stop walking around with whole seasons of TV, that s for sure But it's doable.
In the end, no matter how much space you do have, it ll get filled up with things that you don't actually need, so that s OK to pick and chose I ve got to say that I m not having any issue thinking about apps or not, I just get all in there and it fits!
So that s my experience, all in all, you have to think how to adjust, cause you ll have to do so.
Also, cloud storage? I ve got 1.8 Gb of data/month on my plan so yeah, that won't work. Since it s not when I m near Wi-Fi that I need to be mobile !
I wanna say that before I had the Nexus 4 I was thinking that 8GB is more than enough! And in my country there is only the 16GB version but boy I am glad that this was the case! On 16GB you have 12.92GB (don't ask me why theres 3GB less I don't know how system can take more than 1GB) and on 8GB you have only 5.67GB!
Now i have like 2,5GB free space left on my 16GB version! It is okay I wouldn't mind having more space though I didn't have any problems yet. But I noticed some games are very big if you are a games 16GB might be too small (I'm no gamer though most of my space is taken by music).
AW: Any felt the need of sd card yet?
My storage was full. but after getting rid of all the junk.. old roms etc it was ..ok:thumbup:

It has been a compromise for me. I'm also a musician and like to carry my entire music collection with me. I wasn't a fan of using the cloud because when I'm underground in the subway and I want to hear a song and if it's not cached I'm screwed. It has taken a bit of adjustment. I have a 32GB GS3 with a 64GB card and between music, videos, movies, pictures I filled more than half of the 64gb card.
I also don't have as many apps installed on my N4. I've definitely had to scale things down a bit. Although, I am having an easier time dealing with it then I thought I would.
I have 8gb and what I miss from my s2 (16gb + 32gb sdcard) is all the backups, roms I had.. Besides that, everything is fine
I bought the 16 GB version and haven't needed one yet. I ended up buying a 32GB Nexus 7 which is mainly used for heavy games like Vice City and NFS, leaving me with quite a bit of storage left on my Nexus 4. I stream all my music from Google play since I have unlimited data and Wi-Fi is pretty much everywhere I go.

use google music. even when i used sd i couldnt put my collection on it, i had to cut it in half. with gm i have my entire collection with me whereever i go. i live in two countries with long travels in between without connection - its as easy as tapping on the stuff i wanna listen to while being offline. you can make it even easier if you use playlists. i wasnt sure about cloud either but the way i see it, it works pretty well. i'd even say better than cutting my collection in half to fit 32gb.

Yeah I did. But I don't know if I'd want to carry it around with me. For that I could just carry my GS3 with me
I really was turned off by the lack of storage on the N4(I wasn't going to get one for that only reason) but I'm making due. If anything it keeps me on top of keeping my phone tidy and organized because instead of just leaving everything on the SD card I now clean it out every couple days to remove stuff taking up space. And instead of having like 50 games installed I only have the ones I'm currently playing installed
isn't there a way to unscrew the thing and replace the inner one? I think there's an inner sd card which can be replaced...I mean, my friend has htc mozart and it also doesn't have a proper slot for external card however if one unscrew the back, there's a card deep inside which can be replaced with a bigger one...Isn't it the same with Nexus 4?
For me 16 GB is plenty of space, the only thing I miss the SD slot for is easy transfer of files. I don't have to plug the phone in to transfer files.
I haven't tried the NFC / BT or WIFI (can;t use in corporate network) for file transfers.
Other than that I have been very happy with this phone, no root, stock ui, I am loving it.
PHR
I have my nexus 7 for the movies and honestly I don't understand people watching movies on a tiny screen.
I also don't understand people who "knows" more than 2500 songs.
And the ones who can play 5 different game loft games on a daily basis.
So 12 isn't enough for obsessive compulsive people who has to have everything with them.
I bet they carry a huge bag stuffed with stuff as well. In case they suddenly happen to go on a holiday or something.

Android AIO's

Does anyone have any thoughts on the latest models of Android AIO's?
Personally I'm falling in love with the ideer of having a huge android on the angled table in front of me.
Many of them also doubles as an external touch screen for a pc with easy switching between function modes.
The one I look to buy is an acer DA223hql from amazon.de.
It's a bit pricey, and only has one gig of ram, but the size seems good for my reach and I like the 1080p resolution.
No argument that higher resolution is better like the acer TA272HUL's 2K or Lenovo ThinkVision 28's 4K, but those are both out of my price range and to big for for comfortable use.
The DA223hql seems to be the best compromise so far.
In my searches I stumbled upon a maintenance manual on Lenovos website which shows how to disassemble and replace the ram and hard drive on the Lenovo N308, and the components look like regular pc parts which makes me druel of the thought of a cheap Tegra 4 device backed by 4 gigs of ram and 1 - 1.5 TB of built in storage.
But the N308 is a 1600x900 TN panel with IR dual touch, and rumor has it that third party file explorers can't access the hard drive.
So I'm not sure i could live with those limitations.
I've not yet been able to find any reviews on the DA223hql and it seems to only be on sale in Germany so far, but several times my fingers have clicked the "add to cart" button.
I've just not been able to click "proceed to checkout" yet.
Please, someone give me some insight into these AIO's.
I trust android to be right for me in this category.
I trust that 18-22 inches is a good size if placed correctly.
I don't have much trouble living with android 4.1 or 4.2
I can manage to live with one gig of ram, though more would definitely be nicer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the latest models of Android AIO's?
Personally I'm falling in love with the ideer of having a huge android on the angled table in front of me.
Many of them also doubles as an external touch screen for a pc with easy switching between function modes.

don't have much input, but they are tempting me too. I may be wrong but I think android is currently maxed out at 2gb of ram and cannot handle any more. If you get one lemme know what you think, I am hoping it would be better than a chromebook experience.

Just ordered an acer DA223hql
As far as I know android is based off of a 32 bit Linux system and is able to address up to 4gb ram.
probably 5.0 will be 64 bit which should allow ram in the terabyte range, not that I think anyone would need more than 2-3 gigs for a long time.
My Note 3 has 3 gigs, the LG G3 comes in a model with 2 gigs, and one with 3 gigs.
The Acer I've ordered has only one gig, which in my experience means I'll need to manage how much I'll have open at once.
A bit annoying but what's a guy to do.
With a little luck the ram will be replaceable.
Apart from that, the snapdragon 600 should be plenty fine for running a mostly stock android.
Unless of course the software is poorly optimized.
Not much hardware in the world can save you from poor software.
That's the scary part of being an early adopter.
At least it's not Acer's first attempt at this, so they have a little experience.

4 gb would make sense since it is just a 32 bit linux after all. Not sure where, but I read the 2gb thing somewhere previously. I had heard that most of those aios also used standard ddr3 so my guess is that it should not hurt to try. With the extra hdd thing, I'm sure the problem could be solved via software. Most apps on a stock kit kat build cannot write to the ext sdcard, might be the same problem you heard about regarding the added hdd.
Anyway lemme know when it comes in, if you have root and an unlocked bootloader I will most likely order one too.

It'll unfortunately take a few weeks to get here.
I'm Danish but live in Cyprus.
Sadly Amazon.de wouldn't ship it to me down here, so I had to order it to my dad's address in Denmark and then when it arrives there he'll forward it here.
Sucky way but at least I'll get the one I want.
As for the limited access to the hard drive in the Lenovo model, I have no idea.
It runs 4.2 JB so it can't be the kitkat thing.
Did you get it?
I was thinking about doing similar but ended up getting tab pro 12.2.
Got it, yes
And have been playing around with it for a few days.
Here's the quick and dirty of it.
First of all the screen, as nothing about it is as prevalent when dealing with a 22 inch tablet.
It's bright and with excellent viewing angles.
Resolution is a bit on the low side considering I watch it from about a foot and a half away.
The snapdragon 600 happily chugs along on a nearly vanilla built of Android.
There is a tiny bit of lag here and there, but I chug that up more to the single gig of ram.
An interesting little side note is that the screen Wakes up when touched, so no need to fumble the side for the on-off button.
The 16 gigs of built in storage fills up quickly so an SD card is definitely a must.
As the port is a full size SD you have the opportunity for cheap and really fast cards.
I have my eyes on a 128 gig, so I can get my 64 gig micro back in my phone.
Another way to do it is to mount a USB drive, but that option is better as a secondary.
It easily reads both exFat and ntfs, so no problems with my old 750 gig USB drive.
Another side note: a big USB drive will be good for videos.
Remember that I said that I sit close to the screen?
Well the negative side of that is that ANY lack of quality in my movies show up like sitting a few yards from a nuke.
I'll need to upgrade much of my media to 1080 versions with a good bit rate. Wich incidentally means I'll need more storage.
The problems of the developing world, right?
But playing a high quality movie right in my face is awesome though.
The speakers are OK, and more than enough at my distance.
For acting as a music system I have it connected to a Phillips Bluetooth speaker, which works fine.
The biggest problem with audio is watching movies with 5.1 on stereo speakers.
You turn up the audio to hear what they are saying, only to wake up the whole house as soon as any action starts.
Maybe someone can suggest a cheap and compact surround soundbar? I don't have room for a full speaker system.
Or would a small 5.1 amp with just the 3 front speakers connected be enough?
Mostly I just need the center channel so I can hear the dialog.
Unless it gets updated to "L" it's options for audio out is pretty much limited to a mini jack.
That's as much as I have time for now.
Later I hope to get into the issues of multi tasking like floating apps and the likes.
Bonus: towelroot worked flawlessly on this one. Full root privileges, but don't forget to install superuser yourself.

Should not be complicated. I hope...
I installed this apk: https://www.dropbox.com/s/a2h75gcp8y1r6us/TowelRoot.apk
Ran it once.
It rebooted my system.
I installed supersu, and updated the binary.
And it was done.
Have not posted a link here before, so if there is any problems pm me and I'll mail you the link or file.
I'm not next to my acer right now, so if you need to know it's firmware version I'll have to check it later.
But start with the towelroot I used.
Hope it helps.

hi
I will give it a try thanks.
Be advised 128 GB SD card is not supported....

EDIT it works with towelroot v1, I was using v3.....
Thanks again....
No problem.
Did you try a 128 card?
Often when they write the card size limit is to avoid customers calling them and asking the where to get a "1 terabyte card" that the written specs say would work.
But it is a micro SD-XC port and unless Acer screwed something up or set a deliberate limit, the SD-XC standard reaches all the way to 4 TB, though I doubt that we'd find such any time soon.
Hi
Yes
tried a brand new Kingston 128 gb , no luck ,
formatted with a Windows pc , no luck,
partioned at 64 GB, then formatted and it works...
May be it is my card....but is strange....
Scary news.
Did you try to format it from an Android device?
When I first bought a 64 card for my original Note I had to format it in the phone before it would read it.
But I also saw a guy Frankenstein'ing his Note 2 to run a 256 GB card, and that one is rated for 64 gig max...
Of course to connect a full sized SD to a phone you need a special adapter.
Hi
I tried from the Acer Da223hql at first but formatting was an endless process....it took about 20 minutes before I surrended...and switched to Win8 for the format operation. But then the card was not readable for the Acer....so I went for the partitioning.
I suspect that 64gb is the maximum allowed on this machine...
If you want more details here I am...

I also use this device as an external touchscreen monitor for a win8 laptop and it is great...
works without a glitch....
On the Android side I installed Floating apps and Floating Browser, so I take advantage of the large screen...
Try it
And the hits just keep on coming.
Dared to take it apart today (pretty scary), and it turned out that the ram is not replaceable.
Live with the gig you have.
Ah well, it was a good dream though, 4 gigs...
Have mounted a 3tb USB drive though, with no trouble what so ever.
And I connected my laptop to the hdmi for the first time.
It works but has some weird behavior.
The picture shrunken but the touch sensor works correctly, so the further from the center I touch the more offset it registres.
Both my acer and my laptop run at 1080p, and I set it to mirroring.
The laptop days it's sending 1080p at 60 hz and the Acer says the received signal is 1080/60 so I don't see the problem.
The Acers settings screen does have a section marked by a square with arrows going out. But it ain't selectable.
Haven't seen manual resizing since crt and analog monitors anyway.
Any ideas?
Hi
you are very brave trying to open it!
As far as I know these devices (based on Qualcomm Snapdragon) have integrated/soldered RAM, so I never thought to check it by myself.
By the way 1Gb is plenty in my opinion, then it depends what kind of application you have in mind (photo editing and such can be memory killer)
As external touch monitor it worked fine for me. I have a 2in1 Asus Transformer Book Win8 based and I use the extended desktop mode.
The Acer was immediately recognized as a monitor and touch input device. No issue with screen resolution and/or its alignement.
Would you like to try that setup and see if works well? If no may be is your Acer that does not work properly.
I did not touch any setting on the OSD menu.
Furthermore I installed Xposed frameworks+XHalo floating windows manager and now I have a Windows-like multitasking.....check it, it's worth the test. Several windows at the same time (Chrome, terminal emulator, Youtube) and no lag.....unbelivable.
Looking for your comments

Thanks on the bravery comment
Just sad it was fruitless.
I feel limits when moving my big files around in the background , and think more ram would have eliminated that.
But I'll live with it.
My laptop is an Asus u38n (the ultrabook with an AMD instead of Intel).
It connects fine to our TV without the weird scaling.
I guess I'll try sending Acer a mail and see if they have some advice.
I've only just started experimenting with the multi window funktions.
Juggling 50 hour work week with being a husband and father sometimes means that things move slower than I'd like.
But even without multi window I am pretty happy with it.
I knew from my wife's old gPad that the snapdragon 600 is no slouch.
Do you know a popup client for hangouts that works the way chatheads for Facebook messenger works?
I don't use Facebook much but love that concept.
Just haven't found a hangouts client that does it that elegant.
Hi
Being an husband and a father myself I fully understand
Concerning labour hours, my yesterday working day ended after 14 hours, so......I'm done! But we are lucky to have a job nowadays.
Back on topic I'm not a Facebook user, neither my wife, therefore the only app I can suggest, which can have similar functionality, is Lilypad Hd.
You can find it on Playstore. Hope it will suit your need!
Cheers

Interesting little tid bit.
I needed to empty out my 64GB micro SD and chose to format it in my note 3 (running stock).
After formatting the acer told me that it was faulty and offered to format it.
I chose yes and like yours it just stood there for half an hour with no result.
So I put it in my laptop and formatted it from there ending up with the same "faulty" message.
So finally I put used my original gNote (running CM11) now there is no problems.
somehow, somewhere, there is a difference in the way different devices do it

Hi in my experience Samsung Android devices have "bad" attitude in respect of vanilla Android.
They probably have some changes in the code which are not limited to the interface (TouchWiz), resulting in incompatibilities.
This is the Android fragmentation people often blame.
However when I formatted the SD card in my laptop, the Acer accepted it without assle.
I would try again formatting the SD with the PC and see if this happen again....sometimes magic happens

Noob Note 3 storage clarification and install errors

Hi,
Ive just been handed a Note3, 4.1.2, gt-n2700 for work, never having even barely used an Android device before, although i know my way around win phones.
Of course ive just installed a ton of free apps, assuming i would have lots of space, but am now getting install errors quoting lack of install space - Ive 200mb left of 2gb space. Now the phone says it also has 11gb of USB storage (no idea where from, this is how it was given to me), and the phone is listing a few apps as already being there, as well as on the 2gb space, but not taking up room.
Ive read i can move apps to SD, but it says no SD is installed (so assume this 11gb is not an SD card?), and i dont have the option to choose "move to USB storage"
Is it possible to allot some of this USB storage to the main install 2gb partition?
Or to allw me to move apps to the USB storage?
Finally, if someone suggest a flash (i should have really known to check how old OS was and do this first), is there an easy way to do a full backup
and re-install as have jest spent hours getting everything setup...
This is a fake note 3. No one can help you here you don't have a note3 in your hand.
Wow, really? How can you tell? It has a working stylus and everything about it seems pretty solid (well in so far as all Samsungs ive had are).
Will a photo or something cobfirm for certain?
1. No note 3 came with 4.1.
2. Gt-n2700 is not a note 3 model number
3. Minimum storage space for any real note 3 is 16gb. Not 2.
4. No storage is listed as usb storage, unless you connected a usb key via an otg cable.
You have a fake device. Sorry about your luck.

Sheesh.... well it's stull a fairly decent device so far as any fakes ive seen are concerned! If they had sorted the storage then this would be as good as the real thing, seems amazing they put this much effort in to not finish the job! Lol
Will inform the boss and the seller...
I also just found a spare 2gb micro SD which isnt being recognised. It came from a Windows phone though so might it just need fornatting on a PC or Linux box in Fat32, or can i just expect that not to work either?
Are there any forums dedicated to these fake devices then also..?

Have just read this and my pen works perfectly, with hover action and button gestures.
Are the fakes doing the pens now as well? Hmmm....
Yes and also hovering sensor.
fair enough... I don't want to go on about it, but there also seem to be a of videos / reviews for the GT-N7000 on youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=note+3+gt-n7000
I have also just plugged it into a PC, and the USB storage is browseable, and a real 10.9GB
is there a real cut and dried test of it being fake (e.g. serial number etc.?) - this thing genuinely seems too good in performance and all other aspects to be a fake - are they really this good? sorry but new to Notes and Android, and am genuinely suprised!
