[Q] Out of sync - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there... I had a Samsung Galaxy S3... so I decided to buy the S4 at a very reasonable price. It came to me yesterday.
So excited...!
When I started configuring the device, my nightmare began.
Preliminaries:
- Firmware was upgraded to 4.3 and no other updates are available.
- I don't want to root my phone (not yet).
Problem:
I can't login to my google account: I keep getting the message:
Sync Error.
"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".
Specifically I can't sync Contacts and Gmail and Picasa (couldn't care less about this one).
What I have done so far not exactly by this order:
- Cleared cache of Contacts and Contacts storage;
- Went to my Gmail via web and exported and deleted all contacts;
- Factory reset;
- Tried the Samsung Contacts Fix;
- Deleted and added the Google account (like 223 times);
- Removed all application passwords from Google verification;
- Downgraded all Google applications and Google services;
- Checked out time and date on the device;
- Went through the Google troubleshooting process.
To no avail.Sometimes I get the ok for the Google contacts but no contacts show up.
Now I can't go anywhere from here... No contacts, Not able to use Google Play...
What a complete turn-off...
Any genius out there with a solution to my case?
Thanks a bunch!

[Q] Google Calendar NOT syncing

So I searched the forums for any solution to this problem but to no avail. I have a tf300t that is unlocked, rooted and updated to 4.2.1. Up until recently everything was fine until I realised that my google calendar no longer syncs. Neither does the default asus calendar. I have tried many things but nothing has worked. I've tried uninstalling calendar, removing google account, readding but nothing has worked. I think the problem started when I tried to use ASUS sync with it on my laptop (the calendar and contacts was greyed out on the asus pc sync software). Any suggestions as to how to correct this? I really would like my calendar to be working again. Now I'm considering just doing a clean install again to get this thing to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
When you go to Settings, select Google under Accounts, and select your Google account, is there a check mark next to Calendar? If so, is there some kind of error message? It's possible that when you set up the ASUS sync software, it just set your sync settings to no longer sync your calendar and contacts with Google since it assumes you'll be doing that with the ASUS software instead.
Otherwise, if there's an error, it could be conflicting with the ASUS software in some way. In that case, you could try clearing the data from, and disabling, the ASUS apps, clear data from Google Calendar and People, and resync. I know that when I used MIUI on my Evo 4G, if you used the built-in MIUI Backup app to restore contact info, it conflicted with Google's contact sync. That could be happening here, too.

Lumia 620 - GMail sync error after Amber

Hi all,
First of all: I've searched for a while on google and all I found is relative to GDR1, not GDR2 (aka Amber).
After the Amber update I can't retrieve my messages from gmail. The account is setup correctly, the contacts and calendars sync with no issues but not the mail. Sometimes it stays "Syncing..." forever, sometimes I get an error message that says it's impossible to sync and sometimes it says it synced but no message is fetched (and I know there's new messages because I see them in webmail).
Does any one have this issues? Is there any way to get back my mail synced on my phone?
Have you tried removing and reconnecting the account? Does it still sync calendar and contacts, or does none of that work?
Hi,
Yes, I tried to remove the account and add it again. Tried to add the google account as a Microsoft Outlook and the error persists. I see on the web that uninstall skype should address this problem but didn't work too.
The contacts and calendars are all syncing well.
Just the e-mail doesn't work.
I'm a bit frustrated with this. The amber takes a few improvements to WP8, but my e-mail is very important to me.
Thank you for your kind reply!
The simplest next step is to try a hard reset - this will almost certainly fix things, but at the cost of all your data on the phone which isn't backed up. Best case, you have to wait a while while your apps re-download and so on, worst case, you discover there were files stored in some app that you really need and now can't access again.
I'll let you know if anything else I can think of seems plausible. One possibility is to reboot the phone between each change (for example, remove the account, reboot, add it again, possibly reboot again). That's probably not going to do it, though. Sorry I can't help more. I sounds like you've already done the research on this (thank you for doing that, by the way).
Thanks, man!
I feared it was necessary to do a hard reset, but facing the situation I believe it worse a try.
Just one more question: I should do it in the settings/aout/restore or by the combinations of keys at start up?
Should I allow phone to restore my settings at the first boot after reset?
Thank you very much again!
Ok, just did the hard reset by pressing the key combination on startup. My phone was back to the factory settings and after the initial set up was done the first thing I did was add my Google account.
Unfortunately (and it's very frustrating) the phone can't fetch my messages again, but I noted that if I perform a sync on another folder (or label) the messages are fetched correctly, what means that this problem is Inbox relative only.
It's a very cool way to start the weekend! :silly:
Update: I set up my google account as a MS Exchange account and it worked! All my e-mail (with instant notifications), contacts and calendars (after some time all my calendars was fetched) is now working. At least until google definitively shutdown the google sync service.

[Q] Contact unable to sync with Google

Anyone has any issue with Google Contact Sync? It says "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly".
Several methods I've tried before:
1. Delete the Google account and add again
2. Clear data from "Contacts Storage"
3. Enable all google related services that I have disabled before (Google Newstand, Google Book and etc)
It seems that I can only download the contacts the first time I add the account, but any edit I make on the phone won't sync back to Google.
Can't find any other new method from Google result...

Go to contacts (not with phone but contact app) go to settings then account and see if Google is there
Yes it is there, along with other stuff like Whatsapp, Samsung, Facebook etc. I have tried removing Google, re-add again, and then tweak one contact on my phone, and then go back to the setting > account > google to check, and there it is, "sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly" on the Contact part..
I was wondering if you got anywhere on this when you had the issue? I am having a similar problem.

[PLK-AL10] Android 6 - B325 or B326 - Google Contacts problem?

Hi all,
I recently received the B325 and B326 after a while (Android Marshmallow) update via OTA.
Everything works fine, except the Google contacts sync.
I tried to update the app of Google Contacts to 6.0 but no luck.
I also tried to remove and reinstall Google play services, but no luck as well.
It's just me or someone else have the same issue?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

Glad to know I'm not alone
No sorry, I have no workaround for now on tap.
Another guy says he's using Google Contacts v. 0.5 (the old one, not updated with hi-app and works perfectly)
We should try with an older apk of Google Contacts, but make no sense.
There is a new B326 - Installed but I still have the problem.
I do not have any trouble.
I am installing this way:
1. Downloading and installing the Google Play Store, Google Calendar Sync and Google Contact Sync with HiApp.
2. I opened the Google Play Store and I set google account - then turn off the Google Play Store.
3. Go to Settings - Apps:
**** a) the Google Play Store - Storage - and clear data and cache;
**** b) the Google Play services - Storage - (clear cache) - Manage space - clear all data;
**** c) the Google Calendar Sync - storage (and clear data and cache) - Permission (Calendar on) - Set individual permission - check the Trust this application;
**** d) the Google Contact Sync - storage (and clear data and cache) - Permission (Contacts on) - Set individual permission - check the Trust this application.
4. Ponownie open the Google Play Store and accept the Google Play Terms of Service.
5. Restart the phone.
6. Go to Settings - Accounts - Google - and sync now.
That's all.
Thank you, in your way works!
Before I never tried c) and d) point (didn't knew about them)
Thanks a bunch!

Galaxy S5 (SM-900I) Sync Failure after Marshmallow Upgrade

Marshmallow (Android 6.0.1) was released recently for the Galaxy S5 in Australia.
All appeared well after the upgraded until I noticed that new calendar entries were were not being synchronised between the S5 and my Google account. I checked my Google account in the phone and found sync had failed for Contacts, Calendar and Tasks.
After a trying a number of different things with no success, I finally decided to do a factory wipe and reset. Everything looked OK until I installed Business Calendar 2. After a little time, I started to get sync errors again.
The only way to recover from this mess was to uninstall Business Calendar 2, remove my Google Account, delete both the Calendar and Contacts storage data and then reboot the phone. Once the phone finishes rebooting, sign in to my Google account. The phone starts to download calendar events and contacts. If you install Business Calendar 2 again, the sync function is again crippled and you have to go through the reset process again.
I have contacted the Business Calendar 2 developers but they haven;t been able to help. I also installed Google Calendar but found synchronisation unreliable. Sometimes calendar events would not synchronise. However, there were no error reported!
At this point, I have had to resort to using Samsung's S-Planner app which is very ordinary. Better than nothing I suppose.
I have done quite a bit of research and there are many Samsung S5, S6, S7 and Tab S2 user complaining about similar issues after a Marshmallow upgrade. Some have suggested disabling Power Saving but was not a solution for me.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Regards
John
