Galaxy Note Pro 8.4 Kernel Source Needed - Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, 10.1, 8.4 General

Samsung has not released the kernel source. We need as many people as possible to bug Samsung to get the source code released . We need the source to get a custom recovery.

I have tweeted them from my twitter account.

Get people to retweet it as much as possible.

the tab pro 10 and note pro 12 kernel source went up a couple of weeks ago.
their opensource page is at
http://opensource.samsung.com/
and there's a web mail form there that lets you make a request directly to the open source team which is nice.

I registered on the site and requested the source for the Pro 8.4. I would bet the issue has to do with Qualcomm as they were the issue with the KitKat system images for the new Nexus 7.

The system images for the N7 were held up by the binary blobs that Qualcom didn't want to see released, IIRC. Weren't the kernels available for the N5 before the system images?
Kernel source is or should be a whole different thing.
But it's an interesting thing that the exynos kernels released before the snapdragons did.

No the kernel source was the issue and they were not released for KitKat early on the 7, not sure about the Nexus 5 since I have Verizon. The Exynos is made by Samsung, so I am sure that is why it was released.

Haven't bought the device but, I would like to if there is support for it. I went ahead and Retweeted your tweet nrage and sent out my own tweet to them.

CM9 (ICS) coming to 10.1...any hope ?

Steve Kondik said this on G+ on Monday November 21th : https://plus.google.com/100275307499530023476/posts/hVw7ykmsvrx
So the 10.1 will have its official CM9 support as expected...it's good news anyway but it's not to say we'll get ICS that easily.
Our options are two :
- the CM team offers official support to the 10.1v as well. Don't hesitate to mention our device in the G+ post I've linked to.
- we'll get ports from the 10.1 CM9 ROM.
Our device just can't die software so soon...
finger crossed
In fact, we've got this time the kernel of ICS. So the dev doesn't need to build a rom from scratch, like previous.
As you an see on XDA is that there "plenty" of New ICS rom, for example i've got one on mu SGS...
We just need a dev. And the lib for the 8mpx camera.
So cross fingers

I know I don't have this device but I have seen the statement that says every version of the galaxy tab will be getting ICS officialy

Well, getting ICS will be late in February/March time (at least that was the timeline given.) However..CM9 is just a totally diff story
A Cyanogenmod developer would have to take up the cause and have access to the device.
ISI wrote, and i qoute...
" I see there seems to be a version of the GT-P7510 (thin wifi) in the works by CyanogenMod, so if that get’s released I will have a look at it again."
Send from my rooted 10.1v
The 10.1 will definitely have CM9 support (see today's CM blog post) but how to get an official 10.1v support, I wonder...
Wow... I had no idea this 10.1v model existed and just read up about it. If I had bought one of these I would never purchase a Samsung product again. Officially it was never updated to even HC 3.1 and still runs 3.0.1? WTF?
It's mostly done (and it's awesome), only non-working thing right now is the camera. There is a non-technical issue that needs to be sorted before we can release anything for Tegra2, though.
You're talking about the 10.1v?

it will encompass all builds that the current hc3.2/3.1 kernel supports, with v and 7500 coming slightly later, as i round up testing for those devices once all is ready.

tegra 2 issue
I am a big fan of CM; and think this is what sets Android apart from Apple (infact beats the **** out of Appy...lol)
I am intrigued to ask though; when you say "non-technical" issue - hope this isn't a license/patent kind of issue?
I also heard, there was some issue with the GPU rendering? Is that correct?
Cheers.

ICS source code and ROMs

Anyone heard any news on the source code being submitted yet? I'm really holding my breath for either AOKP or CM to be released for us as while ICS is nice and all, I'd still like a few more key features like extra softkeys/lockscreen tweaks.

Same here. Brazil, ZTA... not even an announcement for a far away release of ICS.
I hope Samsung hasn't hidden any secrets away from the released source code (like code to very specific drivers). If they have, having the sources won't suffice for a properly working ICS Galaxy S 2.
on the other hand, this may be an indication that Samsung hasn't been able to correct bugs still present in their pseudo-official ICS release, and this is their last resort: release the code so that the developers community can fix bugs Samsung hasn't be able to fix. Not that Samsung didn't have to make such release - they should and it is high time they do so.

We know for a fact that there are bugs that Samsung is too clueless to notice/fix... But they are also too clueless to pull the fixes from the community.
See the fuel_alerted wakelock bug for example... Fixed for around 6 months by the community, still broken in Samsung kernels.
WTF!! really
this is great news.. wow cant wait for the fully working AOKP release
awesome, might now be able to get a decent kernal...and CM9 fully working on this bad boy!

From what I understand from reading a few articles about this is that the 2014 date is for manufacturers to ship it pre-installed on the phone, whereas it is released next month for the Galaxy Nexus whether it be the source code or a prebuilt image, but as it uses the android kernel and drivers so I wouldn't be surprised to see unofficial ports in the next few months for many of the high end devices including the Note 2.
Why a fail? I'm interested in seeing it! And playing around with it! It looks pretty cool. I'm sure when Android first came out everyone thought the same thing, but look at how it flourished.
Sounds awesome to me. They are clearly struggling to get OEMs on board, so I think releasing images to let the modding community have a play is a great way to build momentum and gain feedback.
It's how MIUI got started, and I hope it works for Ubuntu.
With a phone as powerful as the Note 2, it's a shame it can't run anything more than android for docking & use with monitor/keyboard/mouse.

Looks very nice! I have been following there progress for sometime...They really need to get this O/S on board with OEM's in 2013, but like said I am sure we will see ports soon, hopefully for the N2!

Ubuntu Phone OS on N7000

Hey folks, I'm keen to start work porting the gnexus image for Ubuntu to the N7000 when it's released later this week. Is anyone else keen to join this effort?
While very familiar with the linux commandline, servers, desktop linux, and flashing my phone, I haven't compiled much code before and am unsure where to start. I would appreciate any advice you might have.
Looking forward to getting this os running on our original notes.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Deleted sorry wrong post.
I would love to see some support here. Push!
I'm presuming you're going to need to build an unbuntu compatible kernel for the note, mobile devices don't tend to work in the same way as desktops, so the pretty much universal kernel model used on the desktops don't work too well here. (size being the major consideration).
Not really looked into what they are doing, I'm presuming they will release source under gpl, so at least you will be able to diff a standard gnex build and the ubuntu. You can then use that as a basis to rebuild for the note.
"Porting" an image if that's all they release is going to end up quite messy.
EDIT according to techradar they will release source http://www.techradar.com/news/softw...galaxy-nexus-nexus-4-coming-next-week-1131567
But doesn't it run on android kernel without any modifications?

You think every android phone runs on the same kernel? Think again.
It's always a possible that they will use an Android kernel for the gnexus or n4 builds, but it's unlikely, as Android has some features that don't play too nicely with a mainstream Linux build.
Not seen this yet, nor code for it, so can't say exactly what they are doing yet.

See what happens when it comes out then, but would seem from the information Canonical is presenting that they are using standard android kernels. Will be interesting to see.
