Anyone know of a good place to get wallpapers for our Notes?
Apps such as Zedge and Flickie HD don't seem to keep wallpapers that are high-enough resolution, and most sites that stock 1280x800 wallpapers have landscape orientation ones.
Wallpapers
Found some nice ones at phandroid, http://androidforums.com/android-themes/937-official-wallpaper-thread.html
you can try googling images and specifying exactly the size of the image you want. assign the orientation through the pixel amount for height and width.
Wallpapers
Does anyone know if there's a place to upload images to xda?
interfacelift.com is great as well u can click on the pull down by download button, scroll down and should have a link to download for 1280X800 .

That resolution would not account for the scrolling wallpaper. I believe the native resolution of the Note incl. scrolling is 1600x1280.

(Solved) Youtube videos looks better on old Nexus 7 than on the 2013 Nexus 7

Hi!
I have both the new Nexus 7 (2013) and the previous one. Noticed right away that Youtube videos looks sharper on the old Nexus 7. Have compared the same video on the two tablets.
Is it simply because of the higher resolution on the Nexus 7 2nd gen?
1280x800 on the old one vs 1920x1200 on the new one.
Edit: Uninstalling the latest Youtube update completly fixes the problem. Thank you Tranceiver!

Dude im serious. They look alot worse on the new Nexus. Lower res and with jagged edges and stuff. Is it something wrong with the tablet?
For example this YouTube clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE4gFmCiYAU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Looks nice and sharp on my old Nexus 7 but on the new one the edges are jagged, especially on the name tags.

On the real here, I find that everything looks much better on my Nexus 7. Granted if you look at crappy encoded videos it will look like dingle berries on a baboons a$$. Simple fix, stop looking at the baboons a$$.
On the other hand, you could have a bad screen. Bring your tablet to your local electronics store that has a 7 on display. Bring up the same video on both and compare.

How does my linked video look for you? Does edges look jagged. Look especially on the two player name plates in the upper middle.
Let me check real quick.

There are more pixels on the new Nexus 7, therefore lower quality videos will look lower quality than they would on the new Nexus 7 with less pixels. I can see what you're talking about and it's simply because there are many more pixels on the new Nexus 7 as opposed to the old.
This is a common issue with high-res screens and lower-res videos.
If the scaling algorithms are not advanced it looks blocky and horrible.
If you have a single pixel and it now needs to occupy 4 pixels on the high res screen, the simplest way is just to make every pixel 2x2, but then everything looks blocky and you have stair steps.
More advanced algorithms will do a better job making things look smooth.
Videos almost always look the best on a screen that matches the resolution of the video, but can be made to look decent on higher res screens if done right.

It's not just you. I think the new Youtube app screwed something up. Playing the same video in BSPlayer looks far, far better. I'll try to take some screenshots for you to compare. :good:
It's also definitely not playing in 1080p in the Youtube app.

What sfhub said is probably the right answer. I bet Youtube isn't doing the best filtering when it comes to upscaling resolution.
The pictures I posted above are with HD youtube setting, and 1080p BSplayer setting.
I've tried switching in BSPlayer between Software decoding, Hardware, and System. It made no difference that I can see (though I can't take screenshots in hardware mode).
I would suggest watching youtube videos in BSPlayer until they fix this crap. You can do that by
hitting the "share" button in youtube
copy URL
start BSPlayer
hit the + button (top right)
delete the "s" from the "https"
done!
Edit: The older version of Youtube has better quality. You can just go into app settings and uninstall the updates.
Thx everyone for the replys and nice explanations!
Was afraid that there were something wrong with the tablet or something. Because it dont look good at all.

Between the BSPlayer and Youtube, that doesn't look like scaling issues, it just looks like the source material is different resolutions. Is the problem that the Youtube app won't use the hires version or is it telling you it is using the hires version but still downloading the lowres version.
Now even with lower resolution video, Youtube should be able to do a better job on the scaling, which is probably a different issue.
Are you guys sure you have HD enabled? Click on the three vertical dots in the upper right while a video is playing and make sure the white HD letters have a white cloud halo behind it. It's misleading because the HD letters are in white with no cloud halo when it's disabled. With HD enabled in YouTube it looks sharp like the BSPlayer screenshot and jaggy when disabled.
I can't believe not more people notice this. On the YouTube app, the overall picture quality is sharp. It's just the jaggedness that's all over the place. HD is enabled.
I thought it was the device's scaling issues so I tried to stream 720p and 1080p videos from my computer using MX Player and the PQ was as crisp as ever. I mainly use my Nexus 7 (both 2012 and 2013) as a YouTube device and I'm rather disappointed by this...

Camera seems capable some minor focus off's however I will refrain from earlier judgment because of quite versatile light conditions I find it hard to make my mind up .

There is reason the are cropped and small in data size, I have attached them rather than linking them, looks like there was some compression happened for the photo samples I added - correct me if I am wrong here.

Because you cropped them we have smaller resolution . That means we have less detail to stare at I don't think single image compression would affect images so much.

It shouldn't be a problem unless you bluetooth device has some mysteriously destructive compression way of transferring files. Are you going to upload your images?
I am actually surprised how good is overcast and low light performance. Dynamic range, color reproduction and detail are at very high standard.
No smearing or painting alike artifacts what so ever., images are sharp and clear. So far so good Nexus 5x!

That's the actual owner of the Nexus 5x photo album : https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/3p8bsy/nexus_5x_photo_album/
Anyone could tell me what is the minimum focus distance of the 5X's camera? (In the Nexus 5 it's like 5cm - 6cm)
Do you use HDR+ for all the photos? (I mean, it's a good mode for everyday photos? Like in the Nexus 5).
My story:
I've used a Nexus 5 for almost two years, took amazing photos. Now I've a Z5 Compact but I prefer the "average" Nexus 5 camera.. Specially when I'm taking short-distance photos.
So I think I'll return the Z5 Compact and go for the 5X.
I didn't like the Z5C camera quality despite of the reviews and all the good landscapes photos around...

Those are not my photos , last link will guide you to the actual owner of that photo album. He also mentioned some images are shot in HDR mode. From what I saw 5x camera is easy superior to 5. Look what overcast he had and how well lit images are.

Yes. At least all these photos seems to be better than the N5 photos.
So the 5X passed my "medium-long distance" photo test.
But I'll wait for some minimum distance photos without good light. To know how is the camera at those situations!

Here are few close ups from androidcentral : http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-5x/595823-mine-has-just-been-delivered.html
By the way Nexus 5x camera sensor is 1.55 µm pixels. By far largest in the 2015 smartphones at the moment. Low light dream

Something like this (close ups, most of them indoor, sometimes with artificial light, and always with HDR+, and the original size to see the photo at "real size"):

How to make Mi MIX camera digestible

Hi folks,
i wanted to share some of my insights from 2 days of usage of Mi Mix. As for most, camera was biggest letdown. I knew it was bad, but actual experience exceeded all expectations After some digging and thanks to some threads in xda forum i found a way to make quite decent photos with little sacrifice.
So few things first:
- I'm on rooted LineageOS with Camera API2 unlocked (to be honest i didn't have to unlock it - i suppose it is unlocked with LineageOS? )
- As some noticed before, the hardware isn't that bad, it's software that spoils photos with ugly postprocessing in most cases.
- I'm using Snap Camera HDR - i tried most of software in Google Play and only in it found something like Low Light Mode - if someone know software with similar feature - pls let me know .
So what i did is basically turning off all useless postpro in Snap Camera (sharpenning, denoising, post-processing, anti-banding) and enabled Low Light Mode in all photos . From what i understand i takes series of photos and compare them to make one clean photo. You can choose how many frames to take. More you take the better picture you will get but it will also take more time to process. The processing time is biggest letdown of this method. You can't take another photo during processing so burst mode won't work. I found 5 to be best compromise - it enhances photo noticeably and takes only 1-3s to process. If u can spare more time between photos u can crank it up to 32 - with that count i had really impressive results even with ISO around 1500-2000 but the processing can take 10-30s. Another letdown as you can probably guess is that you can have some issues with moving objects - the darker it gets, the more blurred will they be (slower shutter for every frame).
Now to main dish, examples
All photos taken in 16Mpx without flash or any tripod, all taken form hand for real life comparison. As photo is processed in Snap Camera the jpg lose photo metadata so i only write that data for stock camera, for Snap Camera i write how many frames was set for Low Light Mode. I know it's not very scientific but i take photos in both softwares almost at the same time, in same light conditions and on basic auto modes.
Stock camera on left, Snap Camera on right - I'm posting 100% crops, ill post full pictures if there will be some demand
1. [ISO 2500 1/15s] [5 LLM] - far objects in bad indoor lighting

2. [ISO 1250 1/17s] [5 LLM] - some fine details - fur, fabric, wood texture in mediocre light
3. [ISO 1600 1/17s] [5 LLM] - small details in mediocre light
4. [ISO 160 1/33s] [32 LLM] - outdoor in good light - i took more frames to show some extra foliage details
5. [ISO 6400 1/15s] [32 LLM] - most hardcore example, very bad indoor lighting. Snap Camera algorithm made some wired border around Marshall logo, but apart form that great job.
I hope my post will help some of you with Mi Mix camera, please post your own experiences with camera - maybe there is even better solution for our phones

Big Thx, i will most certainly try it:good:
I'm considering getting this device, but the camera is the main thing holding me back (besides price for last year's SoC...)
Does the Google HDR camera make this acceptable? I don't necessarily need the BEST camera, but I'd prefer relatively fast rate of capture and at least mediocre detail. The initial reviews of the device's camera make it seem like utter trash.
Also consider I want to root the device & install something Lineage based, most devices you sacrifice camera quality when you go this route (because of lack of API 2 / hardware source).

No idea if there is one for it. As i said I found it on AFH, but works on my mix. Perhaps re-downloading by another browser or app?

Unfortunately no, same with edge on desktop and yandex on mobile. Running rooted stock Global MIUI 8.5.5.0.

That's the file link, I thought there is a discussion thread where I could ask for help because of the error. I also got parsing error with other ported Google Camera apks featured in XDA news, other 3rd party camera apps work though.
It's not prerequisite to have Nougat ? Stock Global ROM is under Marshmallow...

Today tried it on Epic 7.11.9 and got the same error. Didn't really invest why.

Perhaps but see my above post. Anyway it's not a ''wow'' app, just saying.
Received the Nightly OTA today, updated to V9.1.1.0 . Now I am on Nougat, the OP5 port linked in this thread works now , other versions of the google camera get installed but will close immediatly. Just tested it in my room and can't say that I see an improvement, maybe when tested outside at daylight. But I use the google camera anyway because I'm using immersive mode + dpi changes which make stock camera working less stable.
Hi. I updated yesterday to V9.1.1.0 via OTA. I tried the OP5 camera and is does a better job in lower light and image stays in better focus then stock camera. Is the OP5 the same as the google HDR camera. If not, is there a version of google hdr camera that works on Mi Mix without root? Also is there there a way to turn on some type of optical stabilization on stock camera. If I hold it really still when snapping pic the image is a lot sharper. It's actually pretty good. Just not practical to take pictures that way.
EDIT: OK. I guess no OIS on Mix...
I got my mi mix a bit more than a month ago coming from a OP3 and I was shocked by the awful camera of the mi mix. Sorry, I have no other words for it.
The op5 APK seems to make it digestible, but it's still not great. I know that for a GREAT camera I should've picked a different phone, but I didn't expect it to be like this.
