Imported C6906 US Warranty Service - Xperia Z1 General

Hello All,
After seeing how bloated some of the carrier phones are, plus longer update cycles, I decided to get an imported C6906 (Expecting delivery this week). I decided to ignore the Z1s. Do you guys know what if, any warranty service I could seek thru Sony in North America ? This phone isn't even sold in the USA so it's not like they've replacements laying around. I'm just very concerned they will turn me away If I have an issue. I currently have TMO but may need to switch to Att so the 6906 LTE bands made sense for me. Has anyone had to go thru this?
Also, I've seen mention of poor quality screens on some units. This is extremely concerning. Should I be worried about this?
I'm debating refusing delivery of the device so I appreciate any feedback.

LoL....good luck on sending your phone out for weeks to get it repair buddy. I'm getting Tmobile Z1S its because of the warranty.

I have other phones so a couple of weeks doesn't bother me that much to be honest. I'd just like to know if they will provide service.

I don't think they will. You will have to go thru from who ever you got it like expansys or negri.

I ended up rejecting the delivery of the device from UPS after not being able to get a clear answer from the folks at the local Sony store.
So all things considered, it seems that Sony has held out on the LTE flaghships (Z and now Z1) in order to avoid competing with T-Mobile.
Z1s it is I guess.

Decision on buying Unlocked or AT&T Brand

If I buy an unlocked version for AT&T where is the best place to buy one? I would want one with a warranty first and foremost. Also, is the home button one that goes out easily? Will the phone run as fast as the one that will come out on AT&T officially? I wouldn't want to spend a ton of money on an unlocked one to find out it's slower than the one that AT&T puts out for hundreds of dollars cheaper.
Next is what about warranty. How safe am I buying unlocked? I have read a lot on this board about yellow stains and stuck pixels. How common are these to get? I don't want to buy a phone that's so much money to be stuck with these problems.
Thanks all
AJ

Expansys-USA provides warranty support for phones they sell meaning they'll ship it back to the UK if it needs service. If you buy it from an authorized dealer in the U.K. it's covered by Samsung's two-year global warranty. Regardless, count on being without your phone for a couple of weeks if it needs repair. If you're looking for the safety and security of a direct replacement overnighted from your carrier and loss/theft coverage importing a phone probably isn't for you.

It seems sturdy and I don't think there were problems with the SGS1 which utilized a home button also.

Unless the AT&T version has an upgraded processor then it wouldn't be any faster. T-Mobile is getting a version with the same Qualcomm chip as the Sensation which hasn't benchmarked well. The leaked pics of Sprint's version appears to be a real SGS2. Nothing specific's been posted about AT&T's version so it could be a 4.3" display with an Exynos chip or a 4.5" display with a Qualcomm chip. They just announced there first LTE phone won't be out until the end of the year and code for AT&T's LTE network was found in one of the latest ROMs. This means their SGS2 might not come out for a while or they'll be releasing it sooner as an HSPA+ phone vs. an LTE phone.

There have been some QC issues with the screen and some variances in color temperature from device to device. If you but if from Expansys exchanging it would be fairly simple. If you buy it in the UK it'll cost you shipping. Stay away from Handtec, they were hassling people on display related exchanges.
You have been very helpful my friend. What would you do? Would you wait for AT&T? Or would you buy unlocked? I have also heard a rumor that AT&T is going to go with the 4.5 inch screen size is that true?
What about Newegg? Are they any good?
Thank you for your time.

Newegg doesn't give you a warranty with the phone and I also seen a lot of people saying it comes without a seal if that means anything.

I would get international version for faster updates or bug fixes. You get to have SGS2 before many people.
Also, is HSPA+ phone as fast as the LTE phone? Will I even notice that big of a difference?
So newegg is a no go. I checked out Expansys-US and it looks legit.

LTE only matters if you plan on keeping the phone for a long time. AT&T's only going to have 15 markets up this year. If you get an international phone you can get fake-4G for $10 a month. LTE, while faster, is $30 for 2GB of data and $10 per GB beyond that. And you can't tether at that price. I stream video and tether a tablet and have had no speed issues and I'm in a 3G market.
You sound really paranoid about getting an international phone. You need to think hard about the downside.
- Warranty work will easily take weeks.
- You can buy accident insurance from SquareTrade for $94 for two years but you can't get theft/loss protection.
- If there are QC defects out of the box it'll be a pain to exchange the phone.
The upside is you can get cheap unlimited data (via AT&T), upgrades directly from Samsung, and there's no carrier molestation with crap added or functions stripped out.
Personally, if AT&T gets the same phone T-Mobile is (4.5" display/Qualcomm chip), I'd skip it. Without the Exynos chip the 4.5" phone is an SGS2 for marketing purposes only.
Not paranoid just getting all of the facts. Is the att version going to be 4.5?

No warranty. Also, their phones have been sourced from some strange places including Russia. If you're going to mod the phone than where it's from is less important.

So do any models actually have a real US warranty? (I.e. Not the Expansys deal).
I didn't think Samsung offers any US warranty coverage since the GSII hasn't been produced for the US.
I saw the "International Warranty" model on Amazon but no one can prove it's actually warranted...they just assume it's covered in the US.

If you send a phone to Samsung for repair they'll ask for a copy of the invoice and possibly a credit card statement if they're suspicious about the authenticity of the invoice. Any phone purchased outside it's intended market of sale is considered grey market and therefore has no warranty. Same thing for purchasing it from a retailer not authorized by Samsung. Since no model of the SGS2 is intended for sale in the U.S. buying it from anyone in the U.S. means it has no warranty - no matter what the seller might tell you. Supposedly, because the warranty is considered global, a properly purchased UK phone should be repaired by Samsung in the U.S. No one's tested that though. Expansys, because they have offices in the UK, ships the phone back through their UK office for warranty repairs.
If I were to buy Expansys-US would be the place because they do cover it. Now only problem is what if I buy it and AT&T come out with theirs in two weeks LOL! Also, what's the fail rate on the screens, etc?

AT&T WILL probably have the Galaxy S II in a few weeks... if you can you are probably better off waiting to see which model you prefer. I heard US varients of the GS II were getting Tegra processors and of course AT&T will cripple the phone with bloatware and slow updates.. so I went ahead and got an unlocked one from Amazon that DOES have a warrenty. Who knows, maybe AT&T will surprise everyone and keep the Galaxy S II the way it should be.

I doubt there would be long lines, if any for the Galaxy S II at an AT&T store. Now the iPhone 5... that's a different story haha . But yea I don't know what to say, the unlocked Galaxy S II is awesome if you have some extra money to spend... otherwise wait and see what AT&T has to offer.

[Q] good place to sell Samsung Smart PC Pro?

Hello all,
So long story short I'm trying to sell my Samsung Smart PC Pro 700t and want to know a good place to sell it. Swappa does not support this device, I've tried to sell things on ebay before (including this one) but both times I've gotten a buyer who is in another country and can't pay through normal means (i.e. paypall on ebay). There is also no interest for this on my local Kijiji So does anyone know a good place online to sell this?

Xperia Z1 possibly on AT&T or T-Mobile

Just called Sony to get a new charger for my ion and happened to ask about the Z1. Apparently they have a contract with AT&T and that more than likely it will be released to them, if not T-Mobile. This could be another 6 months from now, but for those of you, such as myself, who have AT&T i thought this was good news. Hopefully it will put Sony on the map and allow them to release more high-end phones in the US on major carriers.

I see what ur saying about not willing/wanting to pay $800 for this phone, but i've had my C6903 for about a week now on T-Mobile LTE and all i can say is that it's nothing short of AWESOME. It's the first phone in quite a while that feels premium enough to keep for a while... and i've had ALOT of phones (about 6 just this year). And did i mention LTE! And another plus of the unlocked version: bluetooth internet sharing right out of the box! :good:

Great to hear! It sounds like you got the LTE version in time since it looks like T-Mobile is going to carry it, but not AT&T. Just out of curiosity, what kind of download/upload speeds are you getting and where are you based? I'm in NY, and on AT&T -- when LTE was first introduced here, I was getting 30 down and 40 up, but nowadays, it's about 10 up and down. I may make the jump of carriers if the speed and network is OK.
Based on the EVLeaks photo, it seems it's a slightly modified version that will come out with T-Mobile, so, we'll see. Man, it's great being a consumer in a competitive market -- it sounds like Sony may be coming out with a new flagship in early 2014 using the WhiteMagic panel (http://www.androidauthority.com/jdi-super-bright-full-hd-displays-282810/) and with that one, hopefully Sony decides to go full force in the US. I'm also liking the rumors I'm hearing about the Samsung S5 thus far (water-resistant/proof, octacore, etc.). Decisions, decisions, decision!!!
where did you guys ordered yours? do you need an account on Sony to order one? or did you order it here in the States?
Thanks
I just picked up a Z waiting for the Z1 to be released on T-Mobile and the rep said "soon".
So I ran across this on the T-Mobile UK site http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/sony-xperia-z1-black/
Why isn't this available on T-Mobile US?

Same here. Got a C6903 from Clove UK along w/the SW2 for free. i didn't opt for a warranty but take care of my phones.
so far it works great on Tmobile and good on ATT and 3G only. Tmobile you can get LTE/4G if you have it in the area.

Talked to Tmobile today regarding what to do

I talked to tmobile on their twitter help page and then called them. The rep told me on the phone I can keep the device if I like and when they get replacements in they will ship the replacement FIRST and then I can send them back my original Note 7. I ordered mine via the store so I have to deal with corporate. Tmobile help page told me the same thing I can keep my Note and simply swap it out but said I can have it shipped to the store too.
I hope this is the case and I can have it shipped to my house and simply send the old one back. The only store near me is always busy and their staff is a PITA to deal with.
I do have an S7 to use as a backup but hate the small screen and I don't want to get a refund then have to wait for that to be put back on the card.
I am watching the V20 too. I might be out next week BUT we know how the G5 has issues and turned into a major flop. I'd hate leaving the Note and it ends up the V20 is a POS phone and stuck with a worse phone.
I just called them, they said bring it back to the store for a full refund or a new phone. Replacements aren't even available yet , why can't people just be competent, not asking for a genius, just basic competency.

You mean the reps? I think Tmobile is being pretty straight forward, so far compared to the other carriers who are not even really sure what to do yet. Overall though I hate the reps especially the ones in the stores. Most are clueless. The store basically says if you ordered it you have to go through Tmobile and the store won't issue a refund.
What problems did the G5 have?

I hear battery life and the modules some were reporting they become loose over time and durability issues too I've seen people talk about. Overall a crap device that was hyped a lot before launch. I don't want to get a v20 and it has issues and is a crap phone. At least with the Note I know what I'm getting.

From a business perspective, this is not the result of incompetence. They know that trial lawyers are waiting around for the first Note 7 from T-Mobile to burn so they can hit them (and Samsung) with a class-action lawsuit. If that happens, the cost to T-Mobile will be huge, so they are trying to get the Note 7s back ASAP, even though they aren't ready for it. This is a totally unexpected event. They didn't stockpile alternate phones in the last few weeks in preparation for a bunch of people trading back their brand-new Note 7s.
They should allow a pre order replacement so not everyone is calling them or everyone going to the store at once when the new phones are available. It's gonna get chaotic.

Thing is there is no official time line of events. Who knows how the failure works and when, not saying most will be affected but saying it hasnt happened yet isnt really concrete proof it wont ever happen.
Like the ring of death on the Xbox 360.
Also no phone should explode if you are using a different charger. Thats again a failure of the manufacturer

I posted a similar post yesterday, I've seen it with HTC and Samsung where a few months into sales of a phone they seem to silently switch manufacturing to another vendor or use cheaper parts I guess to improve profits.....so my thought is now with this whole recall and it's cost to the bottom line will Samsung (A) Keep everything quality wise the same and take the full hit? or (B) Save every penny they can short of the battery pack? (i.e cheaper made camera parts from cheaper vendor etc)
You know someone on the boards the other day brought up a good point.
If the CPSC gets involved with this (as of now they are NOT) it will be illegal to sell a note 7 that has been recalled. So if you were going to sell your faulty Note 7 on ebay or something
it would be illegal.
So i would def get a replacement if you are planning to sell down the road.
My wife and I will trade ours in when they get the replacements in stock. We're not going to trade it in just quite yet.
its my understanding that T Mobile US might not be affected by the recall at all, and we all might not wind up needing new phones.

Lets also hope Amazon.de stock it too.
Are you also annoyed at handset manufacturers snubbing us please share your views and why you think this is happening more often.
Can't say I'm surprised, although it is disappointing. Apparently LG's decision was because they think Europeans don't like big screen phones. Hopefully, if there is a European release it won't have reduced storage like the LG V10.

I'm *really* hoping that Clove don't jack up the price to beyond reasonable. I mean they're providing 2 years warranty with it and are importing them too but if it's astronomical they'll only sell a handful if that and I don't know if it would even be worth it for them. I do hope it's fairly priced. Aside from that I'm going to check amazon.de and amazon.fr and I'll need to check my phone insurance will cover it since it won't be a UK released phone.
Such a shame LG aren't releasing it in the UK yet again....
Anyone know how one would approach the warranty situation if it's bought from Amazon.de or.fr? I'd guess just sending it back to Amazon wouldn't be too difficult within the normal warranty period for the device?
Waiting patiently for clove to release details also. With the debacle that is the note 7, I'm hoping a non UK release decision gets rethought.

One would've thought with all the note 7's being turned off and handed back, they would've wanted to sell it everywhere .

Blame Brexit - everyone seems to!
Disappointing we are left in the cold again. I was looking to V20 once I return my Note7 but if its not coming I'm not sure I will bother.

After the note 7 I might wait a couple of weeks for real feedback and to ensure no issues are present!

Hey mate. Where did you order the US model from? I'm interested in getting one but all I can see are Korean models for sale on eBay etc.
Darn !!! The phone has a faulty camera !!! The ois continuously shakes and the phone vibrates whenever I open the camera app... I purchased it from a seller who stated it was new ..BS they bloody would have known it was f#&!&#D . going through return processes now
On a positive side the sound was so good and loud I couldn't put it max. The Dolby atoms demo was friggen amazing. Screen is bright and very nice so no idea what some people are moaning about the brightness for as its similar to my G4. Couldn't test camera though !! Lol. Looks like this is a sign to get the EU model from Amazon.de then. Ha ha.
Never returned anything to USA before so let's see what happens with postage and custom fees.

There is Dolby on the phone it worked fine. Tested the demo video etc. Here is a video of the issue
can't see it was rooted or a fake device as it came with all the box and registration / warranty stuff and all serial numbers checked out . Seller has accepted return and he is going to do a warranty claim his end. Not really bothered as will get my money back. Shame I now have to get an eu model or go with the plan of getting a pal to buy one from USA but if it breaks warranty will be difficult with customs and delivery charges. Eekk

Sorry to hear about the issues with your handset, however, glad to hear you're able to get your money back.
THX for the heads-up on the Dolby Atmos , I'll be checking it out later today, when mine arrives.
