sooo, let me get this straight about the nook color... - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i did the sd card theory with my nook color. i did 10.0, 10.2, 7.2. they all work great, wifi works, touch works, etc... but am i supposed to actually install it to the internal storage and wipe/format the nook itself or just run it off the sd card? if i am supposed to install it to the internal storage and wipe my nook then how do i do it?
thanks in advance...

That solely depends on what you *want* to do. You have the *option* of installing it to internal storage (emmc), but you do not *have* to do it that way. You can have a dual boot system with stock internally and CM on sdcard. Of course, you can also do the reverse.

I don't know what you mean by "supposed to". There is no "supposed to". It is your choice. Run it on SD like you said you did or choose to put it on internal memory. It works either way.

Does it run faster on the internal memory? Not that I am expecting a speed demon.

Only if you have a bad SD. If you have a good SD you will notice no real improvement going to internal.

I am stopping off at Radio Shack (strangely one of the cheapest local sources and generally have real SanDisk) on my way home. Not sure if my Kingston one is giving me issues.

I got a sandisk and now it is working much better.

As others have said, there's no speed difference and the choice is yours. I chose to move from SD to EMMC (internal) because I wanted to free up the SD for extra storage capability, so moving the operating system to the internal was my reason..

Since I mainly use the SD card to store large books and encyclopedias, I have a class 4 SD. There was definitely a noticeable speed movement moving to boot from SD to EMMC.
Then again, most new SD cards are class 10.

Preparing micro sd 16 gb for the desire hd

Hello everyone,
I just bought a new micro sd 16 gb for my desire hd, I just want to know how ro prepare it so I can use the same app like nothing have been change, the same data, setting pictures
Thank you in advance

What sd card is it?
I have a class 4 Sandisk of 16g and I only had to format the regular way. The camera records without lag so I didn't need to prepare it in any way. But if it's a slower card you can change the format settings to improve performance.
You can just copy everything from your old card to the new one and everything should be fine.

to format yr new card, put it into the phone, go to settings, sd and phone storage, unmount sd card, format sd card. then copy all the stuff from your old card to the new card and u're done.

Well if it's class 2 it's wise to format it to 32kb for smooth video recording. That is what I meant. It's a setting when ofrmatting it. You should do it on you PC with an adapter.

Is there a way to format internal SD? It seems after all these rom flashes I lost space.

The CDMA Tabs only have 2GB of internal memory, all of which is allocated to Android partitions, so effectively they don't have an "internal" SD card in the same way GSM Tabs do.
To the OP - have you applied a lagfix to your Tab? If so, it's likely that is where your space has gone.
Regards,
Dave

Ahh now I see, I assumed the CDMA had same hardware as GSM and was only software difference. Glad im in EU then and got GSM plus a 16GB internal SD
I will look into that...thanks.

Ummm...I just got my Sprint CDMA Tab, and it comes with a 16gb. SD card. The option to format the card is greyed out however, but why couldn't you just format it in a PC?

Help! Restarting after insertting a micro sd card.

Hey any time I insert my micro sd that has more then about 300mg of stuff on it my TF will keep restarting and not read whats on the disk. It works fine on the computer and I've ran a virus check / reformatted the card and I still can't figure out the problem.. any advice? It's a Class 4 Duracell micro SD.

Yeah pushed the wrong key. And yes apparently they do. I'm wondering if it's the quality of the card?
Also what file system does the TF accept? I've been formatting the card to FAT32 (the one my computer automatically chooses)..?
what class? just for for a test try another micro SD card and see if u have the same issue

Yup just did that, swapped it with the one out of my phone. Formatted both, loaded them up and the duracell works fine in the phone and the the other which has been perfect in my phone for months is doing the same thing to the TF. It seems that if there's too much stuff on the the TF goes holy **** **** too much! and crashes / restarts.
EDIT: it's a class 4
I'm going to try putting movies on instead of music... maybe it's the mp3 files...
Ok so now my TF is barely even recognizing the sd card... it'll say preparing sd card when i insert it but if i click on the file viewer there's nothing in it.. then 30 seconds later the little icon disappears and no more sd card found... **** this is getting annoying.. and im far away from civilization for work..
i was going to downgrade to 3.01 from the leaked 3.1 now i can't even do that.
Quick question. Can I format SD and microSD using the Transformer? I'm guessing this would be the most compatible alternative. I'm not yet rooted.

I can't find an option to do that no.

HD+, CM10 vs Rooted stock?

I'm playing with CM10 on a 16gb class 10, its dog slow compared to a properly running device (like my GS3 on CM10.1). Before I spend a few hours getting the stock rom rooted, gapps, side loading, etc.. enabled. Is it faster.

If you are running on a decent SD, CM10 is not slow. I can't say there is much difference between CM10 running on a good SD and stock. By good SD I mean a SanDisk class 4.
And it does not take a few hours to do those things to stock. Once you burn my CWM card, it is minutes to do all those things.

Sorry to jack the thread, but what speeds should you be seeing on a sandisk class 4 or any sd for that matter to have "good" speeds, I know random writes are most important, and for some reason I only get about 0.5 mb on my sandisk class 4

Look at this thread. It is all about running Nook Color ROMs on SD and the cards that work best. It has benchmarks for many brands and classes. And is very applicable to the HD series.

I would like to benchmark my EMMC with crystal mark but havent figured out how yet :/
As is though, I am using rooted stock 2.0.5 from leapinlar's guide. Its pretty dang fast. A lot faster than was shown in the review videos. Still not up there with my GS3, but about as good as my GS2 was (yes I realize those devices have less pixels to render, but its all I have to compare to). Regardless, its fast enough that I don't ever feel like I'm waiting and it has enough functionality to do basically everything. Thats enough for me to be happy with the device and use it till it falls apart. Too bad theres not some magical way to have this thing run from a small SSD over USB.
Do you need an SD card to be in the nook to run rooted stock? I'm interested in seeing how much faster it is than cm10, you can still access the stock reader right? And can you install paid apps from your Google account?

No need for SD in slot unless you want one. All stock stuff available plus paid apps if you flashed the gapps zip and registered with Google.

Yes you can. I have the zips hard coded to install my zips to stock. Usually you can't but in this case you can.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab running Tapatalk
Just a note on doing the rooted stock thing, i was unable to get any of leaps cwm sd card images to boot. Could be my card, could be my reader, etc.. whatever. However the cwm images for installing CM10 did work, so I just wrote one of those images to it, and then replaced all of the files with the files from the image that can write to emmc. Probably something technical to do with alignment but whatever, it worked. Just an option if you have trouble getting it to boot from your card.

[Q] 16GB Owners, What are you doing with the low space storage problem?

I did not paid attention when people started to complain about the low memory matter and ended up buying a 16GB i9500, now that I know what's the problem is there an alternative for this? what do you recommend ?

Yes I got a 32GB Samsung, but the thing is with the installations and all the bloat, is there something I can do? With my S3 I used aroma debloater it was awesome it left my phone free of non useful stuff.
Brother i am infact using sandisk 32gb class 10 micro sd from past 20 days and its great no problems at all.

Use onboard storage only for apps and move media (photos, songs, videos) and documents onto SD card. But dont cheap out to buy any no name or cheap class 4 card. Class 10 is a must.
Root ya phone and grab titanium backup. You can uninstall about 900mb of crap such as eye scrolling etc...

As the others said, get a SD card. Also VERY helpful is Folder Mount as it lets you remap the /sdcard/Android folder from the internal memory to the external SD card which gets around the problem that most apps want to store everything inside those folders or directly in /sdcard.

32 GB external SD Card
Move anything that isn't apps (music, movies, any extra files) onto the external SD card. Get at least a 32gb and you should be golden.

get another 16/32 Gig card, that should suffice.
i am suing sandisk 16 gig for the past 1 year and no issues till now, and most of the times its a life saver as i keep everything in my sd card (music pic etc)...
My setup which 16gb users might like.
My phone is 16gb
My sdcard is 32gb
But thays not enough space so i added an extra 64gb via usb
The method to mount usb is OTG in a modified case.
(*please note just use the usb when you need it as it obviously drains battery faster)

This didn't work for me.
/sdcard is a link to /storage/emulated/0
that's internal mounted fuse
/storage/extSdCard is real sdcard mounted normally.
It's 4.2s storage problem
in previous versions it was as.simple.as editing fstab.

I don't really put a lot of stuff on my phone as I have a separate mp3 player on me at all times, so the space taken up by bloat wasn't really a problem. I already had a 32GB card on me though so I slapped that in.
