Getting a Note 3 today. Need build info as it pertains to root and rom. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all. I'm sure this gets asked quite a good bit but I am looking for some information on the Note 3 and it's current status of rom/root abilities. I have an S4 at the moment so I am fairly saavy with Samsung hardware and procedure at this point. I am going to assume that Verizon pushed out a locked boot thus killing everyone's ability to install roms and TWRP. If this is true, is there a specific build I should be looking for wen I go to get my phone? Also, what does the SafeStrap scene look like on this device? Is it relatively stable?
I apologize for not looking more but I am at work and then immediately going to pickup my girlfriend and head over to get my phone. Any and all responses would be greatly appreciated.

I bought my Note 3 about a week ago and it came with the latest firmware. I was able to very easy root with Kingo and install safestrap which is very much stable BTW.

After you install safestrap be sure to flash chainfires supersu 1.85 in recovery to rid the kingo Supersu app that kingo puts on your phone. Enjoy that Note 3 bro

good luck!

It will most likely come with the MJE firmware which is the latest. Root with Kingo and then flash chainfires SU and install Safestrap. There is a ton of write ups on the forums about the procedure. I came to the Note 3 from the S4 as well and it's all very similar.

My exact scenario as well, my Note 3 came with THe latest firmware right before MJE, I forget, but regardless neither version could be rooted with Root De La Vega. I used Kingo, my knox is still 00x00 and I have safestrap installed and running the Hyperdrive ROM. If you are worried about the superuser app that kingo installs you will probably be prompted to update it anyway which will replace it with the play store version. I'm not sure why you'd be concerned, but I've seen some chatter about replacing the superuser app.

I have an all incusive thread for start to finish rooting of the N3 in my sig. You can read through it and see the steps. If you get a Note 3 you WON'T be disappointed!
Safestrapp has bypassed the locked bootloader and offers the added awesomeness of being able to boot directly into different roms just waiting to be used. Ingenious and very easy.
Take the N3 plunge, you won't be sorry

[Q] Help root and recovery inst for Galaxy S4 ATT SGH-I337 Run Android ver 4.4

Good afternoon my friends,
This is the deal, I consider myself an OK guy when it comes to rooting and installing custom roms. However, I have hit a wall trying to root and install a recovery on my AT&T Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337) currently running 4.4.2. Long story make it short, my spouse updated through AT&T OTA and now I can't root nor install recoveries. I've been tackling this for over a week and it seems I can't get nowhere. What I got so far is that after the update is impossible to root and thus recoveries are near to impossible, is that true? I hate using AT&T bloated versions. I want to install Cyanogenmod 11 or Paranoid Roms. Help please! Thanks in advance!

You can't use CM, Paranoid, or any AOSP ROMs now. Look at the NB1 downgrade thread and the KitKat Magic Toolkit.

I am no expert, but I can tell you what I know. If you do the At&t OTA update it will update your bootloader to NB1. This current bootloader has yet to be exploited for a way to root. Just wait patiently till the time the developers out there figure out a way to open the bootloader back up. I have read of way to install safestrap. However I have also read mixed reviews of the safety of your device. Best of luck to you.
Thanks! I'm going to wait to see if the community exploit this bootloader soon. I have also read a mix of opinions from good to bad trying to downgrade so it can be rootable.

Sprint Galaxy S4 MK2 rooted with Towel how do I..?

I have a Sprint GS4 with MK2 (SPH-L720), waited a while to root and saw Towel discussed, tried and it worked 100%. My experience rooting is mostly with HTC products so this was my first rooting with the GS4 and it couldn't have been easier. Added SU, verified root, all seems good!
I have an update that was downloaded over the past month or so that I have denied installing and glad I did since it seemed very easy to root!
So what's next? I'm used to installing a recovery and ROMing away.. I have ROM Toolbox installed (pro) and noticed they have the option to flash a recovery for you and wonder if that will work? If so, what recovery is good for this phone? I'm very used to TWRP and hope that is still a good recovery choice. My main goals are to be able to take the updates and keep root. Im fine with the stock look and feel but want that option to add the bling and speed when I'm ready..
I'm not too worried about the Knox being tripped but confident it was disabled during Towel root.
I always search, just can't find specific information on my phone and there are many many differences it seems. I figured compiling some answers would benefit others that bought the GS4 a while ago and never rooted until now. Any help or direction is appreciated!
Thanks!
For anyone in the same situation, I was able to avoid using Oden by utilizing ROM Toolbox, it flashed the newest version of TWRP successfully.
To summarize:
Sprint GS4, MK2 and never took an update for almost a year since purchase. Full root with Towelroot, installed Super User, granted and installed Root Checker to validate. Downloaded ROM Toolkit and flashed TWRP newest version. No issues, no crashes, no tripping KNOX. All good.
Seems there are a lot of people asking for help and while 'search' is useful, there are so many variables, so many threads to sift through its almost impossible to find what you need. Hopefully this helped someone.
Still determining how to take updates and if I will lose root. Still running stock but I am about to try my first custom ROM on this cell.
to my knowledge u can root every varient easily but even if u flashed twrp without tripping knox have u actually loaded it yet to see if recovery flag trips? and once u flash a rom it would deff trip the counter.. but who cares about knox anyway.. i tripped every counter within the hour of getting this phone
I have and it didnt but like you said, I didn't care if I tripped kmox etc. Thanks for the reply! So you believe it is safe to take the updates? Im really just trying to have tether working. Thanks!
If you're wanting to update via OTA, you'll have to unroot first.
There is no native hot spot hack for the NG2 update as of yet and Towelroot doesn't work yet either

$1 Best Buy GS5 is rootable with towelroot

Just verified after getting one about 4 hours ago.

I saw the date was before June 2014 so I gave towelroot a shot. It worked like a gem. Hands down the best root I have ever had the privilege to use. Big ups to geohot.
I installed superSU from play and verified it worked. It had no issue installing the new binary. When trying to disable knox, the first time it hung. I did a restart, and the next time it attempted it completed in about 5 seconds.
Knox counter wasn't tripped.
I'm waiting until after I go in to the Sprint store to check over my plan before I install a custom recovery.
I can confirm the above! I picked up my S5 from Best Buy mobile last night and had it rooted using towelroot in less than 5 minutes with no problems. The same thing happened to me when I installed SuperSU - the first time it tried disabling KNOX, it hung so I rebooted and it worked perfectly the second time.
I have also installed TWRP using Mobile Odin Pro by following the instructions found in THIS thread, however it DID trip the KNOX counter unfortunately but that's OK... Where I'm from, they only have Sprint affiliates and I have NEVER seen them check for tripped counters. In fact, I would tend to believe that they don't even know how. So I'm not worried about it!
All in all, I was rooted, with my custom recovery in less than 5 minutes and didn't even have to bust out the USB cable to do it. That's exactly why I stick with Sammy's and Sprint!
Now, it's time to get rid of this crappy TouchWiz and get a real ROM put on this baby! I was very happy to see that this device is supported on CarbonROM!
Awesome. I just got home with my $1 S5 & notice the same build/date info. Time to rooty toot toot.
:good: I can confirm that towel root worked on both my $1 S5 from amazon.com. Now question, if I update to the new os (4.4.4) which i've downloaded but not installed, will I still be able to use towelroot?

No you will have to root via odin by using CF auto root or odin custom recovery and flashing supersu with will trip knox. Sprint representatives dont care if they even know how to tell so you will be good. I've replaced several devices all tripped (flashaholic ?) without a problem. If you need to bring it in just flash a stock rom with odin and you're golden

Good looking out! I definitely don't care about "being caught flashing". This is my first samsung phone so I'm trying to figure things out. Thanks for the info! Got any suggestion on a good rom?

Do NOT take OTA update for the very reason you have described. OTA will put you on 4.4.4 which their is no released root for yet. All other ROMS right now are based on the 4.4.2 version that was previously on our devices.
You can NOT installed leaked Lolipop ROM as that is not for our device. We will have to wait for our carriers version or possibly a port.
Once you get your device you should be able to root using Towelroot which is just a simple .apk that you sideload and run. https://towelroot.com/
Then go to this thread and install Safestrap which is the Recovery we use for our device since our bootloader is locked. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517610
Follow those instructions and then you should be able to go into the Development section and load up a custom ROM. I also HIGHLY advise you take some time and read thru some threads before diving into this to educate yourself before you break something.

-No that ROM you linked to in the video is NOT for our device. That was for the international version. I believe Poland or something like that.
-Do not know about the Note 4. Would take that question to that forum. But OTA update on regular Note 3 for Verizon WILL remove root and bootloader was never unlocked.

Root and you can disable this or use a custom rom.
Rooted method:
Download "disable service" from Play Store
Open it
Go to System Apps
Find Google Services Framework and tap it
Uncheck "SystemUpdateService"
Restart your device.

Just got an AT&T Android 5.0 warranty replacement for my rooted 4.4.2; options?

So I just got a 5.0 Lollipop SM-G900A, Baseband G900AUCU4B0F3 warranty replacement for my old rooted 4.4.2 SM-G900A AT&T S5.
I want to get root back. I don't care about warranty since I'm technically out of warranty now and they replaced my phone past warranty (I was really nice to the friendly female CSR I got on the phone). I believe my options are:
Live without root
downgrade to 4.4.2 and root with towelroot without tripping knox
root 5.0 but trip knox
I'd like to do number 3, but I don't know what the best method is at this point. I haven't kept up on any developments in root area since I rooted my 4.4.2 and was supremely happy with it ever since. I know that flashing an already rooted ROM is one of the options but honestly I've gone down the custom ROMs road before on previous phones and I know if I start that again I'll be going through tons of ROMs looking for the one I like best and I've been so happy with rooted vanilla stock that I don't want to take the time to go down that path right now if I can help it. Is there a way to root 5.0 directly if you don't care about Knox/warranty?
I fully realize that I could RTFF and figure out what my answer is but I'm hoping someone who is current will take pity on me and point me in the right direction and cut my RTFF down from hours to minutes. TIA for any help.

I don't believe it's possible to root 0F3 at this time. Sorry bro...
If root is achieved once again, I would highly recommend sticking to Muniz_ri's rooted stock roms which can be found in the "General" section of each carrier-specific S5 Thread, then running his debloat script (and installing google now launcher) to have a very clean android.
Has there been any updates on this? the "SRSroot" site seems sketchy. Google is not showing me results that I want to hear.
