OTG USB. Reads fine, however folder contents shows empty. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Using my OTG cable, along with StickMount, I've been able to view files on my USB stick. However, after formatting (exFAT) my USB device, and trying to view files off it once again (using ES file explorer), the folder for the USB Storage now shows up empty. Even when files are present on the USB stick.
I have tried different files on the device, to see if my Nexus 7 will read, but to no avail, it just shows an empty folder.
Anyone got any ideas?

so I probably won't be able to help, but just out of curiosity, does StickMount launch when you plug in your usb stick?

It does, yes

Got it fixed!
When formatting my USB drive through windows I only had exFAT & NTFS file system options. What I did was download "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8" - and it gave me the option to use FAT32.
Problem solved, USB device seems to be working now.

USB OTG Question

Hi all, I have the EOS nightlies installed on my Xoom. My OTG cable just arrived - the Xoom recognises and mounts it - but im having trouble finding the location in File Manager HD and ES File Explorer.
Am I missing something some extra software perhaps? If not where does the Xoom mount the USB drives?
i'm running BuglessBeast rom I use an app called Drive Mount, that is the only way I can get my drives to appear (ntfs)
Have to do it certain order, load Drive mount , plug in drive, hit refresh on drive mount and then drive should appear and then mount the drive, it should appear in file explorer apps from there.
Look for your USB drive in /media/USB.

How do I mount an external USB stick in OmniROM?

How do I mount an external USB stick? I thought it was under /mnt/usbdisk0, but it's apparently not. I can access this folder and create folders in it fine, but it's still there, and I can manipulate files on it even after I unplug the drive. Also, accessing this directory does not power on the USB light. How do I access external USB drives in OmniROM?
StickMount is one mounting tool that seems to work well.

I tried StickMount, but it didn't do anything on my device. I have the drive formatted in FAT32, so it should be readable on anything. I tried plugging it into my wife's tablet, and it works fine there. I just can't seem to get it to work on my phone.

USB OTG - Is USB storage Read-only?

So I've got the Google USB-C OTG cable to go with my Nexus 6 and have connected a 32GB USB Flash Drive. It gets recognised by my phone and I can read all of the contents that I put on there using my PC, however if I attempt to write to the USB at all from my phone, either by creating a folder or copying files/folders onto it, using ES File Explorer, I just get an error, "The operation is not supported".
I also get the same error on my Pixel C.
Is this an issue with ES File Explorer? Or do I have to root my devices to write to external USB storage? (Both are currently un-rooted and I don't wish to root them)
You can try Nexus Media Importer. It works with my 6P. If it doesn't work for you, you can get the refund.
Looks like ES File Explorer was the problem. I tried USB OTG File Manager for Nexus and that worked.
I suppose ES needs a few updates for proper OTG Support

Fire tv 3 USB OTG

I've had the AFTV 3 for a couple of months but only just tried hooking up a usb flash drive. I tried through the OTG + ethernet usb hub and I tried it with just a OTG cable. It doesn't mount the usb drive.
I'm sure I have it hooked up right. I formatted Fat 32 (even though it should do that automatically). It's getting power because the light on the Flash drive turns on.
I'm wondering if the update I got on May 15th removed the USB storage option?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
The Fire TV 3 has never mounted USB drives in a way that all apps can access files on the drive. Your only option is to use an app that can mount the drive itself. Two such apps are ES File Explorer and Total Commander with a mounting addon. Once those apps mount the drive, you'll then be able to select a file and choose a different app to open the file. For now is there still no way to mount usb drive permanently?
Looks like Gen 3 is more protected then older versions, but maybe we can execute commands like "mount" in some way? (just my naive guess)

Sadly not, a Fire TV 3 is only suitable for "paying" apps (Prime, Netflix, etc.), and is much more limited than its predecessors (similar to Apple TV). That's why neither the 3-series nor the Cube is an option for me. I don't like closed systems!
Why is a NAS not an option?

(Help) My Android TV Box has got problems after I unmounted my USB Drive through ES Explorer.

After unmounting, all the device storage folders vanished. I tried restarting but it got stuck so I plugged out the power cable. I plugged it back in and I was able to see them again BUT my USB Drive was being detected as a memory card in FX File Manager. Even Xplore and Solid show it with the SD card symbol. FX shows a USB option, but when I click on I get this error (

).
When I plug the drive in, I get a message saying "SanDisk Cruzer Blade safely ejected" and then in a few seconds later, the drive shows up like it would normally do. I did a complete FAT32 format of my USB Drive but still no change. I even used a different USB port. Nothing worked.
I have a Mi Box S/4K which doesn't have any problem with the same operations so I am sure there is some problem with my TV Box.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try installing ES File explorer. Then plug the drive in and see if it shows as a USB.
Then try use it through it.Uninstall then restart the box.
If that dosent work.
Restart to recovery through adb or the button combination for your box.
Clear cache and reboot. See if it works without issues after that.

I tried both, but it didn't work.
It would suck but you could reset the box to factory and reformat the drive. But you would lose everything.

I am sorry, I should have updated this post. I managed to fix the problem by a method I found on the Shield forums (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforc...no-only-shows-as-safely-ejected-cann/2217355/). But I have ran into a similar problem again.
I installed Aiden's ROM. After opening my USB Drive through the file manager pre installed on the ROM, the USB drive started to be recognized as a media card. I cleared defaults and data and it seemed to fix the problem but when I installed the original firmware of the box, the box can't write to the USB drive anymore. Same with my external hard drive.

I would try and reinstall the factory firmware.
