Thread tile reads PHONE ARENA. but the URL is of FONE ARENA. Two different web sites.
FONE ARENA isn't a site that comes recommended very highly. This is just a people's vote. Meh. What's popular isn't always the best.
As for PHONE ARENA, the reviews of the two phones are already out.
Z1 - 9.2 & 1020 - 8.5
These scores are by the reviewers of that site.
Better comparison would be Z1 vs 1520. Same size sensor for a start.
1520 - 9.0
Nokia has the better software because WP8 allows manual focus, shutter speed selection & RAW which android still does not permit.

Because it's actually a good camera. Considering there's such a hoo-ha about how great the camera on the Z1 it actually is a joke. It's grainy and generally an all round crap camera. My galaxy s3 takes better photos.
The only reason why I had to ditch windows phone is cause the notification system doesn't work properly, everything else about it is fantastic.
Nokia made some terrible choices but they without a doubt make damn good phone-camera mash ups which is more and more important now.

Crap? lol. People are so extreme, either it's the best camera ever or the worst camera ever. The Z1's camera's no way a joke. It's not the best but it's not crap either.

FONE ARENA isn't a site that comes recommended very highly LOL Check the site's stats you will come to know is it recommended or not...Site has got extremely awesome record and one of the best Tech site startups ever made by any "individual person" on Planet Earth. ( Millions of traffic it has got daily ).
If you don't know about its Alexa Rank, Page Rank and traffic stats and reader's strength then don't pass your judgement..!!!
Rest whatever you said about Z1, I agree.

Was going to vote Nokia cause it looks and feels nice compared to Z1 but what makes a phone a phone is the UI and apps. So I choose Z1 cause of android almost limitless customization options and huge number of app selection which no other phone has.

To be really blunt, when you move to updated hardware, no matter which device you had before you should expect to excel and be better in every department than your old hardware. It technically might be there... But the fact superior auto mode is absurdly inferior to what I get off much older hardware is very very bad.

Pulls loads of fanboys and i'm going by what other people said elsewhere about it. Couldn't care less about their stats. Voting polls are such a great way to push said stats up isn't it.
So i will repeat it again. fone arena (with an F) isn't a site i'd bother with.
Only thing stopping the 1020 from being more popular is the asinine pricing of it in India. Hello Nokia! your other models were cheaper and actually offered serious competition so WTF did you price the 1020 more than the note 3.

Why Sony (Ericsson) is better than others?

Most of you have been complaining about how crap is Sony etc etc. Just because they don't give you HDMI sources or Jelly Bean or whatever, doesn't make them bad.
Just a video, what I found on YouTube, that Sony can be better than Samsung.
Feel free to post more stuff if you wish.
Sound on headphiones much loder then on any htc or apple or any other phone i think is about 20% louder
The colors look more saturated on GSII, but more real on Arc. IMO
Another thing that I like of Sony (and the reaason why I'll stick to their phones) is their UI, they take care of almost every single detail, the icons, the music player, everything.
Very nice video

I like that sony sell device cheaply. At any price point sony hardware are better than other oem.
There's plenty of other thing that i like on Sony's. And my final grip on sony suckness has been remedy by Google abandoning nexus s and xoom at 4.1.

I guess Sony is back with a vengeance. I like many things that Apple and Samsung bring to the mobile market, but I'm tired of watching this duopoly develop, so I'm glad to see more competition and a disruption to that dupoply. I don't know where all you guys live, but where I live, almost ALL of the Samsung phones are almost as expensive as the Apple ones and at that they are all black retangular boring objects with NO differentiation. I'm glad to see NEW price points, COLOUR and CHOICE. Sadly, HTC, Sharp and others seem to have been falling apart in the last couple of years so any more competition is good.
(As for the resources, if you Google the stories you'll find a resource that you may prefer, these two were more credible for me.)

apparently steve jobs took inspiration from sony devices when designing the iphone. I read about it on xperia blog a couple of months ago
Possibly, but this must've been before there were smartphones, when the closest thing were PalmOS, Samsung devices pre iPhone looked like the iPhone, funny how nobody really knows that, and obviously iOS is very similar to PalmOS. But it's easy to nit pick, I don't really know what Sony phones used to look like...

Hdmi is ``a big'' difference, without adapters.
The HDMI sources isn't a great argument to hate them, if they write it themselves, which the probably do as they specialize in different electronics that use their code, most likely at least, so it's no surprise the its closed source, as it cost them money.
Anyway on a side note of that, I'm using Xperia ultimate HD 2, which is based on stock 4.0.4, so it has HDMI on the stock, I don't know why people would want to cripple their phone by using a limited version of a ROM, missing out on Sony's added apps, like X-Loud, Bravia Engine, HDMI, and a 3rd party camera app that sometimes is lower quality. It just isn't worth it IMO, if you're buying a phone like this you want the best you can get from the hardware and software, and Sony do a pretty good job with their version of Android. Let us not forget they gave us ICS before anyone outside Google.

I started as an Ericsson fanboy with T28 (World) when I lived in Philippines many years ago but with some Nokia inbetween since then. I have now bought a new Xperia V (LT25i) here in Sweden, but still have my Arc as a router for some stuff in the house and as a long time dear friend.
Only thing is, the Xperia T forum moderator is bad. They don't want make a General Xperia V thread in the Xperia T-device section for some reason.

[Q] Which smartphone is best Xperia S, Google Nexus 4 or Samsung S2?

I want to buy cheaper smartphone so I need help to choose between Sony Xperia S, Google Nexus 4 LG, Samsung S II or HTC One S
I doubt between Sony and LG
I don't like the fact that Xperia S has not responsive buttons, bad view angle, not enough support by android updates, low quality of camera shooting at night, i hate the lg nexus because it is made of glass and easy breakable, low quality camera, low internal storage without card slot, I think that LG is not quality brand
N4.
Definitely the Nexus 4.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
wrong comparison, should be N4, GS3, Droid Dna and Note 2
Nexus 4.
if you are ever going to drop your phone and dont believe in cases... then you need the at&t or international verson of the gs2.
Nexus 4 by a long shot. The other phones can't even compete on many levels
I wouldn't be put off just because it's LG, it has easily one of the best build qualities for an android phone
The camera isn't bad by any means, it's in fact been praised by many professional photographers for producing realistic photos which you can edit yourself. Plus it's not as easy to break as you might think from reading some of the threads on here
Top of the line current generation hardware vs previous generation hardware, which I think would be the middle of the pack currently.. no contest.

I don't have the phone yet, but I digress...
Unfortunately, nothing to my knowledge besides Japanese 'super phones', as well as some other concept phones, has optical zoom, yet. Miserable, in my opinion, as the technology has been there for years (look up 'origami lens').
As for digital zoom, in my not-so-humble opinion, it is an absolute farce and one of the most misleading advertising 'perks' to ever be baked into a product. It does nothing but stretch the pixels on an existing photograph, decreasing quality and limiting what you could have caught in your shot. Post-processing (ie. cropping) can often yield higher-quality results than can on-the-fly digital zoom, so to me it is largely pointless.
So yes, to my knowledge, the N4 has digital zoom...but I strongly encourage you to avoid using it all too often, unless you need to effectively crop a picture that you will be emailing/texting or such...then it has a bit of a point.
(okay, admittedly, it does have a bit of a point on phones, but I just can't stand it when I see a camera advertised as having some ridiculous level of digital zoom, as if it is some amazing thing...far too many times have I heard people who are shopping for a lower-end camera get caught up on comparing digital zoom factors)
---
Edit: As for the bumper bit, from what I have read, the phone *does* break relatively-easily, if you were to drop it, especially on a hard surface. Having a case/bumper does, per my reading, significantly decrease the chance of this happening.
The n4 is in a different league compared to those two. Its not even comparable.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 4 is by far the newest and most powerful of the bunch you listed.
so neither of them offers optical zoom?
I can't buy the Nexus 4 from google play store, because still my country is not listed, what do you think what will be price to buy from somewhere else after December 12 ?
Which one's battery last longer, every site has different results
I just came out of the S2 to get the N4 and I have to say that the N4 beats it out of the water by far. I've flashed AOKP and CM just to try to get that stock android feel and it just doesn't compare. The endless bugs drove me insane. Go for the N4, I'm positive you won't regret it at all.

At last, the wait is over for Oppo's latest flagship device. Launched in Beijing earlier, the Find 5 comes with pretty much all the top ingredients in the current market -- many of which had been teased by the company multiple times already: 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm's quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 chip with 2GB RAM, a 2,500mAh battery and Android 4.1.2. There's also NFC, and on top of that, the Find 5 will come with two NFC tags (remember LG's Optimus LTE Tag and Sony's SmartTags?) plus a special version of Sina Weibo that uses the phone's NFC to let users instantly follow each other.
The 13-megapixel, 5fps camera on the back isn't just about numbers, as it also packs fast hardware-enabled HDR for both photos and video! Oppo claims it's the first in the mobile industry to carry this awesome feature. Additionally, the main camera can capture slow motion of up to 120fps, though it isn't clear whether the resolution is reduced to achieve this. On the other side of the device there's also a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, which beats most phones these days. Audio-wise the Find 5 features Dirac HD, a technology that's embraced by the likes of BMW, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Datasat; making Oppo the first mobile phone brand to join the party. The included earphones are fine-tuned for Dirac, naturally.
Find 5 could have been the first phone with HDR video if it had been released just a month ago... Now Sony beat Oppo to it, with a phone that's superior in other aspects as well

I'm pretty sure it was the first phone with HDR but it was only sold in China at the time. It was released in China first and has been available for a couple months now in China, I'm pretty sure. It was released a month ago in the US, They just sold one batch though in the US and it sold out in minutes, it crashed the Oppo servers from people trying to purchase, they wasn't ready for the demand, I guess and server went down, but some lucky people got in on the first batch. They are selling in the US and other countries now. I prefer the second batch personally anyways because of the button etchings, see pic below. Now they have more in stock so its easier to get at www.oppostyle.com if they don't sell out again soon, I already purchased mine so I got one coming 32GB version? the second batch in stock now ships in 1-2 weeks but people are already starting to get processed emails.

Xperia Z and Oppo Find 5, have the same Sony Exmor RS camera sensor
The display is awful on the Xperia Z IMO, if you are not looking at the screen straight on, it gets really washed out, and another thing is that it is such a fingerprint magnet. Every review that I have saw, the device has fingerprints all over it and that is one thing I can’t stand personally. The Xperia Z does not have Gorilla Glass 2 either.
I would hate to have a stand/charger/holder for at night while trying to watch a movie on the Xperia Z, you would have to have it directly in front of you to get a clear picture,. You couldn’t have any angles or the video would look washed out. The only advantage I see is that it has an SD card slot, but this may not be an advantage for everyone. I have the 32GB version of the Find 5 and with all my Cloud Storage accounts, so I’m fine with 32GB. You can’t use the SD card anyways for the use with games or apps, which Google screwed up by doing this for some reason.
The Xperia Z is a nice device but, I was just turned off by the display, and all the fingerprints it picks up. I don’t think the Z is superior in any way, both devices have the same specs, but the Z has an SD card slot. Both have the Sony Exmor RS camera sensor, so it’s a pretty close call, it comes down to which device you like better, Both phones are nice to have though.

Good bye and thanks.

I don't like long goodbyes, so I'll be brief. I got myself a Google nexus 5, and so i'm stopping with testing and flashing x10. A lot of thanks to this community which have helped me since 2009. Since 2009, my x10 has gotten three lives thanks to some great developers, and it still is running great.

Keep us/me updated about how good/bad nexus 5 feels than a sony flagship. I'm thinking to change device as well
And also good luck mate. Was pleasure reading your results...
Hi all,
You really can't compare a 2009 Somy flasgship with a 2013 Nexus.
If I'd compare the Nexus 5 with the current Sony flagships (Z1, Z2, etc.) than i would definitley choose the Nexus 5.
Reason for that is that i like the pure Android experience. This is what Google has meant. LG has made the hardware and they've used the exact samen hardware for their own LG G2. So, no difference there.
But in the software they have added their one stuff. And all the others (Sony, HTC, OPPO, etc.) are doing the same.
But Android is complete already. Google itself has all the stuff i need.
Sure, other brands have somy nifty stuff build in. But all the populair stuff they create will be ported or recreated very fast. So other devices/users can use it also.
But (IMHO) most of the stuff they build is marketing. The intended and needed functionality is already on Android.
As for performance. You can't beat this device. But should you?
The HTC One, or the LG G2 are also really fast! I sure cannot notice the difference in their performances.
And if i add up the price you pay for a Nexus..... Choice wasn't that hard for me.
Best regards,
UltimateGeppie
By flagship, i meant the Z1, Z ultra etc. I heard from a lot of people that sony devices are underpowered. Read on reviews also that the 20.3 mp of Z1 could not win over wide functionality of nxs 5 and note 3 camera. Sony has good hardware but they lag on software side. Like you see, S4 is packed with sensors. Even though they're gonna copy the idea of water resistance and finger detector in S5 but people are still gonna prefer it over Z2.
Nxs 5 outnumbers all the flagships out there and that too in a reasonable price.
Iphone is expensive sh*t. The best, but useless....

Yeah I've got a Z1 and a note 3. I've found myself using my note 3 on a daily basis. Everything seems better with it.
But the Z1 has a better feel to it. Although I'm starting the like the leather feel on the note 3 more each day.
It's a shame. Sony have a good ui and build, they just can't seem to get it right. Even with the camera. my note 3 takes faster/better pics.

Galaxy s5 looks more promising than Z2. Sony have got the potential but their ethics to keep everything ORIGNAL are letting them down. Samsung, cheating and stealing other brands' main things are growing so high. Nexus 5, being simple and cheaper yet more powerful is gonna ve my next choice.
Sony devices have low resale value. Samsung, iPhone can be sold in price comparable to brand new

Yeah I think it's the display. So much nicer on the note 3.
Although sony look like they got it right with the Z2. It'll be good to see it in person instead of reviews on YouTube. I was holding out for the Z2, but sony took too long in announcing a release date.

Yeah the Z2 is gonna be a badass walkman-cum-cybershot like the old sony quality. But s5 is still gonna outrun z2 with it's feature
P.S- i myself don't like Samsung but they have done really good job this time

iphone 6 camera vs Z2

Was just at a store and saw iphone 6 camera and i was amazed on how amazing it was so my question is how is iphone 6 8mp camera better than 20mp Z2? None of android phones have come close to iPhone 6 camera. Why is that? Not that i like apple products.

Mmmm... I'm not so sure this is true. I believe I saw that the Z2's camera was far better than the iphone 5s's camera. I don't know if there is a huge improvement with the 6, but I'm pretty sure Sony did a very good job. I love the camera on this phone. It works VERY well. It takes VERY good shots in low light, they even look like they're awesome pictures during the day. Check this one out in a low light shot.

I think it's damn fine for a camera phone and I don't know if Apple's could do any better, TBH.
Either way, both phones are very good phones, except for the bending that's happening on the 6+.

a recent photoshoot out, showed a 83 score for iphone 6 (both models) and 79 for S5 Z3 and Z2.
So it's really close, for the normal untrained eye you probably can not see the difference.
Now sony should wake up. They should start thinking how to improve their camera app. Though it is acceptable as of now but if apple can do it why can't sony to be the best in camera.

It showed that the Z3's so called camera low light improvements were not an upgrade, rather PR spin.

A 4 point difference isn't huge and as judging photos is always gonna be subjective I'd be surprised if some people didn't go the other way. TBH I'm surprised Apple haven't done better bearing in mind that, as I understand it, that the Z2 camera isn't a huge jump over the z1 camera.

Would you care to share the link for this so-called photshoot? I have failed to find an iPhone 6 (or plus) vs. Sony's Z3 and/or Z2.
Cheers,
The Z2 camera will also stay pointing straight ahead rather than slightly upwards after being in your pocket

It's not photoshoot, it's just iP6/iP6+ review and chart for comparison. But here you go:

I am sorry, but if this is the photoshoot Martinus was referring to, then I will take with a lot of caution what it says, coming from DxOmark and the fact that they have put iPhones and Sony's above the Nokia 808. I thought that Martinus was talking about real life shots comparisons between the Iphone 6 (or plus) vs. the Sony. All this benchmark test are really not meaningful IMHO, unless backed up by side-by-side comparison shoots and real life examples.
Thank you in any case,
Cheers! :good:

I referred indeed to the site mentioned, it's indeed just a numbers game. Real life has to come. sorry to disappoint.
Here's a comparison of iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S5 cameras. I couldn't find a comparison with Z2, but see the pics and videos. Don't listen what the guy is saying. Judge yourself!

Thank you ! But, I cannot see it ! ??
The Sony Z2 camera for me is pretty good in the light, terrible at night (or in low light). I would not say it is the best camera
Talk to professional photographer and ask him how to set up your camera settings...
Then try
Camera is great, you just have to know how to use it...
AutoMOD is average, not bad but when you know how to use manual mod you can get incredible results.

Any samples you want to share ? [emoji6]
I carry both the Z2 and iPhone 6 on a daily basis and I prefer the Z2's camera.

Would be possible for you to take some samples of the same canvas with both phones?
Thanks a lot !!!!
I don't know what is the problem!
What have the Mega Pixels do with the image quality?
MegaPixels is just the size of the picture... that's it! I could have a camera with 3 megapixels and shoot better pictures than a camera of 30 MP...
The quality of the sensor and the lenses are the most important thing...
I love my Z2 camera but I've seen Iphone 5/5s shoot pictures (specially at night) that would be compared to a proper camera!!!
Nice to see Apple are being innovative and giving you the option of a DIY curved screen.
