Im new to this whole rooting deal. Ive been looking on you tube videos on how but the links they put never work. Is there a step by step instructions on how to root my s4.
It depends on what firmware you're on. Stay away from you tube.
First off I would review xda rules/polices as a new member
Second, wouldn't start 2 threads 6 minutes apart in 2 different sections
That said, you need to determine your build first, under phone settings.
The build will determine how to root and what you can and can't do.
Next, read, read, read on xda, not you tube--
There are beginner threads here
Post your phone version and carrier when asking q's. There are several versions on this forum and that also impacts what you can do

Lastly make backups every step along the way, including your EFS and put them on pc also

Here is a link for the devs or whoever else might be interested in playing with it. This is NOT rooted and from what I've read no existing root exploits work.
This is only for those running Acer_A500_4.010.40_COM_GEN1, all others will fail on install.

Good luck to the devs on keeping root and hopefully some 3.2 based roms from the A500 OTA instead of the A501 base.
Don't ask me any questions on this, I'm basically supplying this as I saw some devs asking for it but no one supplying one yet.

I've got a LT15i and I want it to run faster. Some of my apps require root. I don't mind starting from fresh. I'm so confused as to what all these different things are: rooting, firmware, ROM, kernels, zwap and zram. What should I do to make my phone fast and have root?
Ok, easiest way to learn is to search the forum and google for all those key words you listed. Once you know what they are and what they mean when you search the forum or read posts it all make allot more sense.
First learn. Then do. Then make some mistakes. Then learn again
Also don't forget to check out you tube for tutorials, very handy to see how it's done.

any quick lists of apps etc i can safely freeze? i searched most are for LG. i froze a lot of apps i dont use, including touchwiz (i use go launcher).

I'm also curious since I was able to root MF3
What should I have froze in order to escape the auto update I experienced..

There are three apks which I dint remember the names of. Something like att updater, fwfota and something else.

I bought a new SD card, plugged my phone into the computer and accidently formatted my whole android phone.
I can't enter the recovery menu anymore else i would have just did a hard reset but that's no possible.
I need some help!

I couldn't find anything relevant on XDA for your device. You need the factory firmware likely and instructions on flashing it. Might be best to contact the manufacturer about that. But you can ask for help here too,

I say whatever you find off site, or even on XDA, proceed with caution and remember you flash at your own risk.
That may be your firmware, I'm not sure. I don't own your device and wouldn't know what to look for. So asking where I linked you to would be best. :good:

So I've been able to get into recovery mode, wiped everething -> no result.
I've been trying to flash with flashtools but I have 1 problem.
My phone autoboots when u plug a usb in there.
So the driver gets detected shows up in ports but then dissapears because my phone is trying to startup.
Any further help?

Have you searched the forum any? There are multiple threads with the files in it. Look in the "guides, news, discussion" section. No need to start another thread.

Funny, i uploaded it yesterday from my mega box. It's been in the forum for a few weeks now.

But you have to sideload it. No Odin version yet. I missed the Odin part.

Sideloading i think is easier than Odin. Just download the zip file, place on your sd, boot into recovery and select "load from sd card" or something along those lines, and let it to it's thing. Can take 20 or 30 min though to complete just gitta be patient.
