Relock Sim - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Hi, my sister gave me a S4 from A&T; however, I have T-Mobile. My question is, I plan to unlock it to use with T-mobile, but just in case my sister need the phone back, it is possible to relock the sim so that AT&T doesn't know the phone is unlocked when my sister use it? One of her friends had trouble with AT&T for unlocking an iPhone. Just want to cover all ends.
Thanks for your help.

iPhail and Android's are 2 completely different things. When you unlock an iPhone, you have to jailbreak (root for idiots) it 75% of the time. SIM unlocking an Android device does not void the warranty. They cannot fault you for it.
Once it is done correctly, it is permanent.

Thanks for the reply. It's not about fault, but it is currently illegal in the U.S. to unlock phones prior to end of contract so I think that was the problem.

They can't tell unless they test it with a competitors SIM.

I see. So they can't tell if a phone is unlock but still uses AT&T sim, the company can't tell if it's unlocked based on the info they receive from the phone?

I doubt anybody is going to be arrested from unlocking the phone but the law is still there. I don't know the details but her friend was fined $500 for unlocking an iPhone.
The FCC just need to their asses to work and make everything legal again that's all. LOL.

They should not be able to see anything unless they go into the service menus on the device itself. They also don't really care.

At the moment, in the USA, sim unlocking by anyone except the carrier is technically illegal. The exemption was removed. I think they are working on taking care of that though. On that same note T-Mobile should let you sim unlock if you ask. Remember you can always ask for a supervisor.

[Q] Phone Unlocks

Hey guys
I have a question regarding the adds you see everywhere about unlocking phones.
Im here in Ireland and it always seems to be foreign people doing it.
I go through a lot of phones and have availed of there unlocking services on many occasions.
Are these guys using some software that the got hold of? One guy just asked me for the imei number and within ten minutes he text me the network unlock code. So I know that they are not rooting and unlocking.
S4's Note 2's Htc ones and basically any kind of phone they are unlocking.
Anyone got any insight into how these are doing it?
For the samsung galaxy s series + note series there is an application on google play that can do that. It cost 1 euro.

I didnt know that,, So it unlocks S4's and Note 2's? Does it have to be installed on the phone?
These guys are also unlocking iphones and everything..
The last time I used was when I bought S3. The app need root ( if I remeber well) but you can install after that an untouched firmware. The unlock remain forever.
The first phone I unlocked was an htc tytn 2... in service they asked me 50 euros and 2 weeks to do it...in the next weekend in 4 ours ( 3.5 FOR DOCUMENTATION ON THE NET) I was able to unlock it myself.
Usualy they own some programs and based from your imei they generate an unlock code. You just simply put another sim card in the phone and tipe the code when the phone ask for....and that's all. For the very fresh devices the waiting period for the unlock database is greater, and sometimes the codes comes from the manufacturer of the fone ( I guess) ( excluding apple of course)

Cheers dude.. I presumed it was some sort of program that generates the code based on your imei number.
I though if anywhere is going to know what it is and how to get it then it would be here.
I would happily pay for the program as I say I go through a lot of phones and have many friends that could benefit with me having it.
I unlocked my S4 for $14.99 from cellunlocker.net and I got the code in an hour.

[Solved] AT&T Sim Unlock

Hello, I was curious about something when it comes to doing a SIM unlock. I did some research and found that there are different ways to do sim unlocks depending on what type of phone you have (of course). In my case I'm running a GPE edition ROM on a i337. Would I use the i337 way or the GPE way? Or...would I have to flash a factory ROM to do it? Found a ton of troubleshooting for unlocking but never saw anything about using different ROMs. Thanks for your help!
I actually used this method. Read it carefully before attempting. I recommend printing it so you can have it to refer to. The *#0011# code is the one that I used. Remember that when instructed to hit the 'back' key, that doesn't mean on your device. It refers to the 'back' button you will see when you press your phone's menu button.

Just ask at&t for the code. That service menu can cause trouble in the long run. Plus theres no known method of returning settings to stock.
Will they give it to me even though I'm still under contract?

Sometimes they will come times not. Never hurts to ask. And if the first try didn't work give them a call on another day. Sometimes it depends on who you get a hold of.

Postpaid Smartphone Customers: Account has been active for at least ninety days and is in good standing (i.e., it has no past due amount or unpaid balance owed AT&T.
This doesn't apply to Apple products (not that you have one, but I thought it's good to know)
So I got the unlock codes from AT&T a few moments ago..and I'm a little unsure how to enter them into the phone..i thought you type it in the dialer but that didn't work. I just read that you need to insert a sim from another carrier...lol my intention was to sell an unlocked s4 so I could buy a different one. How do I unlock without a different carriers sim card...I have the unlock code

Some back info first... I had most of the high end AT&T androids and the iphone 5 in the past year. I tried numerous times to get unlock codes from customer service. Unlocked phones just have better resell value. Nothing works cause still under contract.
I currently have 3 smartphones with data share. $250/month is killing me. So recently traded my iPhone 5 for a S4. I didn't activate it on my line. I was looking towards the prepaid especially with Straight talk having ATT lte now and the nationwide release of Aio Wireless but T-Mobile $30 plan (100 min unlimited text and unlimited data up to 5gigs) is what I really wanted. This made me want to unlock the S4 since I live in a refarmed area. I can live with Hspa for $30.
I read on numerous forums that ppl may get a better chance of unlocking their device thru ATT international online chat. I tried so many times but they were always busy. Got lucky, finally spoke to a someone online. Gave them my ATT account info and etc. Was thinking I never got them to give me the codes before. This was just another time they would deny me. Another thing this s4 isn't even activated on my account. Gave them the imei, few minutes later I got directions and the unlock code for it. So damn excited but that's not the best part.
There's also an "Aws T-Mobile mod" for our ATT S4 to enable the Aws bands on the att s4. I'm like this is perfect. I can use the refarmed spectrum and the other hspa+ bands on the s4 and pay only $30/month. This is a no Brainer. Unfortunately. Couldn't get the Aws mod to work because you need a PC and I have a mac.
Took one of my old reg tmobile sim, using a sim template, I cut down the sim to a micro sim. Did the unlock procedure and it worked. Went to best buy to buy a tmobile prepaid kit and activated it with the $30 plan (only available to new activations). I'm thinking the 1900mHz refarmed band is reg but my phone showed 4g and was confused but I was getting 4-6mb down. Definitely could live with this. This is where I live. Driving to work, it showed full bars 4g lte. Got excited so I did a speed test. The highest I got was 12mb. I also looked it up just as I got home and one forum confirmed the same thing. Unlocked AT&T S4 works on T-Mobile Lte.

no idea but i think it would too much work for Google to do that and I highly doubt they would bother with it. Just pray the person doesnt report it. If so, be ready to move to another country to make it work .
