So just got home and found out the wife dropped her phone and broke the gorilla glass. It was in a Seido Active X case.
She took it to a repair center and they said no insurance, buy a new phone.
Haven't several people on here gotten this issue fixed for like $35? Contract not up for like a year, so full price not an option.

I didn't, and it cost me $35 for a replacement.
Should be free with TEP $35 w/o ...
but i believe recently sprint has changed their view on this and no longer replacing screens so cheap

Yeah the $35 is not for accidental damage. That is exactly what the insurance is for....sorry. You can find one on Ebay for about $125.

Actually, if the crack is more than an inch they dont have to touch it. I just replaced my glass and i have TEP. Charged me the $100 deductible because it was more than an inch. Trust me i went round and round trying to get it done for free.

Thanks guys. I knew somebody had gotten theirs done w/o TEP.
Wife just called her cousin's husband who works for Sprint and he said they've cracked down on replacing Epic hardware. He is gonna check to see what he can do tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers.
If nothing else, it's back to the Rumor 2 for her!!

they can give you an idea on cost vs buying a new or used phone. You can mail it to them or if you are in indy you can drop it off.

Yeah I keep saying I need insurance, but between the 2 of us, we've had 9 phones over the last 10 years and this is the first one that has ever been broken (other than warranty issues).

or you could try buying a bad ESN phone off ebay and see about switching the glass.. Maybe you could find a tutorial somewhere.. Either way.. good luck

Yes, it's $35 I believe. No way to avoid it, unless it's unopened, where you may be able to sweet talk your way out of the fee.
Since when did they start this? I returned a note 1 last year before the s3 came out and did not get charged restocking fee.

I think that legally you are under no obligation to return the device. They mailed it to you, it is now yours.
Of course, its absolutely not the right thing to do...especially with a pair of companies you are in an ongoing relationship with (who you have alerted to the problem). Would probably just get the IMEI locked out or something and be left with a useless brick and bad karma.

The rules exist more to stop companies form sending something you didn't order and then billing you for it (or sending a collections agency after you). It is designed to stop scams and fraud, but it still applies to honest mistakes and accidental shipments. Basically if you receive something in the mail that you didn't order, it is considered a gift and is yours to keep.
I'm not saying he should keep it (he absolutely shouldn't), but just pointing out the rules.
Interestingly enough, while this applies to physical goods, it is not really true for money. If your employer accidentally cuts you an extra paycheck, or your bank makes an error that leaves an extra $100 in your account, that money is not yours to keep. Your employer has a number of rights enabling them to recover the money (varying by state) and banks have a very long time to figure out that they made a mistake and take it back from your account (and come after you if there's not enough left in the account).
If you do the right thing in either situation, you can't really be harmed. I saw a story once where some woman ordered an ipad from best buy, accidentally got 5 ipads, reported it, and they opted to let her keep them all in the spirit of the holidays!
