Note 10.1 vs iPad Air - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) General

I'm reading opinions on the internet, watching reviews, tests, comparisons between new Note tablet and iPad Air but I still cant decide which device choose. I'm android user, Id rather buy android tablet than iOS but many many opinions on youtube and xda also says that Note has lags and device is very slow.. I know that there is S pen and its unique functionality on tablets market but it's not important thing to me, even if i would fall in love with stylus. For me most important is smoothness. So iPad is great because of smooth experience, and great tablet-optimized apps (design also is great but it doesn't matter). Note has SD slot and android so there would be easy to share files between my devices (i'm using Galaxy S4). I would stand every inconvenience of android if the tablet wasn't laggy and slow. There is many people who has Air and returned it to get Note and it would be great if they join discussion.

Hello Patroy,
I have been an apple fan for a long time but when I got my iPhone 5S I was really angry at how crap the phone and OS was. I'm giving my girlfriend my iPad 4 and staying with android now. I looked on youtube and there wasn't too many videos relating to the note 10.1 2014, so I decided to make some.
iPhone 5S(IOS7) and why I am switching to Android:
TL;DR: iPhone 5S was a huge letdown and IOS7 is baaaad.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 First impressions:
TL;DR: Note 10.1 2014 is pretty lag free and performs better than the iPhone 5S/iPad4.
I'm also recording some new videos relating to Touchwiz, Optimizations, IOS7vsAndroid,Apps, Games, etc. If there is a video you would like me to make, feel free to ask.
edit: Benchmarks are done. 10.1 = 2x better than iPad 4 and equal to iPad air. 10.1 wins overall. Video will be up in an hour or 2.

But i cant see if something runs smooth or not, because of low FPS rate in your video camera..

After performing all of the updates, the only lag I experience is the wakeup lag in the lock screen. I'm sure this can be fixed by installing some custom Roms that will come available soon.everything else is extremly smooth unlike other galaxy devices I have used in the past

l don t want to ruin Surprise , but the Galaxy 10.1 has the least lag. Far less laggy than the A7 in iPhone 5 (same specs as ipad air). This 10.1 is literallhnearly completely lag free, unlike ios7. Looking forward to showing the benchmark video whe its finished rendering.

But what benchmarks means? Nothing... There was thread, where someones couldn't turn high quality textures in some racing game on 10.1, because of the app which is not optimized for that tablet and that resolution. I would be pleased if someone will show me video with software tour where there won't be any lags or slowdowns

Im not talking about just benchmarks. The UI and everything is more fluid. Higher FPS and definitely smoother than ios7. The reason that racing game couldn't go high was because the developer didnt know such a bigh resolution device existed and is being sorted now so we can play highest in the next update. I have played Dead Trigger 2 and Real Racing 3 and they both look better o tbis tabket because of the higher resolution and some ga es have better effects. I wish my camera wasnt so bad because there is no lag or slowdowns.
On the ipad we saw a game benchmark where the game was getting 7fps at times on the ipad 4 (iphone 5s/ipad air around 13fps) and o the tab the lowest fps it got to was 17fps and that was very very rare. The lag was noticable on my iphone 5s and very rareoy happened on this tab.

That's interesting, i REALLY want an android tablet.. its so hard to decide without touching it in real

I have a 3rd gen I pad because back then everything offered by Android was pretty much beta. Went and bought an I pad air few weeks ago played with but it bored me to hell.. no innovation on apples part. Went and bought a note 10.1 and wow the device actually feels like a step forward. I haven't been able to put it down. Learning all the little tips/tricks is actually enjoyable. The spen really comes in handy and the multi tasking windows beats all. Sure it has a little lag here in there but nothing that keeps you from doing some thing. The Air would just crash the app and i think it has something to do with the 1 gig of memory off loading. Anyways yes the air has better battery life but note can still do 10 hours np. My air is going back.

Go into a electronic shop and play with the Note 10.1 for 10mins then go do the same with the Ipad Air. I bet you will get bored of the Air straightaway...Apple is just soo boring now.
I used to love Apple ages ago because they truely kicked started Smartphones and Tablets and they were the best in my eyes. But now I find them soo boring and android phones and tablets have not only caught uo but passed Apple. Each to their own i guess...If you still prefer the Air after playing with both well then you know which one to buy.
My Note hasnt been laggy once and I havent had issues that some claim. And I'm like you, i didnt really care for the spen much but i find myself using it more and more...Truley awesome.
Eitherway they are both great products when you really think about it, just the Note is Miles Miles better

I was searching for note in electronic shop but i couldn't find them anywhere, I was playing with the Air and I agree with you its booring and after 15 mins of using it i figured out that I know everything about this os but i was thinking there is nothing better than the ipad now. My first plan was buying nexus 10 2013 but id turned out that N10 2013 doesn't exist...

Turns out after slme customizations, my note 10.1 has 14 hour battery life. Beats my ipad by a few hours. Awesome.

Here's a pretty good review comparing the two...
http://pocketnow.com/2013/11/11/ipad-air-vs-galaxy-note-10-1

The only time I really experienced lag with my Note 10.1 2014 edition was when I first got mine, but I had pre-ordered so I got it the day of release. . The lag was definitely a software issue but all new products have some sorts of issues but they get fixed fairly quickly. After about a week give or take Samsung released an update which helped speed things up. Later after that they released another update to smooth things out further. Currently, my Note runs perfectly; very smooth and fast. I can't really speak on the Ipad's part, as I have not owned one.

The iPad Air does a fraction of what the N10.1-14 does functionally. Strip out simple multitasking, multiview, S Pen, and all the other creation features and the N10.1-14 would be equally fluid. Android as an OS is just as fluid as iOS in AOSP form. That is until you start adding in tons of apps and syncs that create open threads and consume resources which the N10.1-14 has tons of to power its features. So people have a choice - limited functionality and completely smooth transitions or tons of functionality, true multitasking, and, in the N10.1-14's case, the best creation and productivity tool on the planet and deal with the occasional millisecond long stutter. I choose the latter and don't feel the N10.1-14 lags in any noticeable or chronic way. People looking for a pretty display to read, browse, and consume media probably should buy an iPad; that's who they are made for.

Just go into best buy or frys and play with it for a while. Nobody here is going to have the same opinion as you will on how "laggy" the tablet is.
Not that i dont enjoy the discussion but at this point, we have given you our opinion, so all that's left is to try it.
Another option is to just buy it on Amazon, if you dont like it, then return it.

I have both, got my note 10.1 yesterday. Both have their pros and cons and I honestly enjoy using both. My note is the Wi-Fi octa core version, I wish it had the Snapdragon 800 instead.
I'd say the screens are almost equal, maybe a slight edge to the iPad. Audio quality threw headphones is pretty much even, the iPad speakers are better.
Hopefully the dev support will pick up for the note. I'd love to have cm 11 on this.

iLagPad Air is a POS. Don't listen to people and the hype but actually try one yourself. This is what I notice right away within the first 5 minutes:
- Two types of Safari browser lag.
- First type is jello, flag or wave effect. Hold the iLagPad in portrait orientation, browse to The Verge (just as an example although I don't recommend that site as they lick Apple sponsor's nuts and will filter any negative facts) in full desktop mode, scroll up and down casually, look at the horizontal edges of the big page wide blocks where it suffers from the wavy flaggy jello effect because the GPU can't keep up with the resolution.
- Second type appears to be vsync which makes vertical scrolling look consistent but slow at about 20fps. For example, vertically flick scroll through The Verge's main page in full desktop mode as quickly as you can from top to bottom. It takes about 3 seconds. Do the same on a Note 3 with the current version of Chrome and it's about one second.
With extended use you'll run into more serious issues like blue screen of death and low memory crashes:

Those links were interesting; especially the low memory one. I don't follow Apple products and just assume from reviews they are "utopianly perfect." I guess the grass really isn't greener on the other side, just "different."

bench Mark of 3422 in quadrant - but G.Note is so laggy

Quadrant benchmark must be flawed.
Is there a LAG fix available for the Galaxy Note similar to the one that was available for the Galaxy Tab?
Or maybe the resolution is the issue and Gingerbread doesn't have proper 2d hardware acceleration...
Seriously the Note is exceptionally Laggy in general usage and I am coming from a Firstgen Single cpu core Galaxy Tab 7. That hardware is over a year old and way faster in general operation than the Note which I find really surprising. Also the screen Res on that device is 1024x600 which isn't far off from the Note.
Granted my galaxy tab 7 is running overcome gingerbread variant but it is note overclocked or anything. In fact even on Stock it was faster than the Note.
Also is it me or is the touchscreen sometimes unresponsive?
Please share your experiences.
It's just you.
I've had my Note for about 3 days now and haven't noticed any significant lag or touchscreen responsiveness issue of any sort, even after restoring a bunch of apps from my SGS2 -> Note.
I also have the old Galaxy Tab (see my sig) and the Note is noticably faster in all tasks.
My Note is running the stock KJ4 (rooted now) with the (polish) Plus.pl carrier apps removed.
Hmmm...
I'm not so sure.
This Note definitely isn't as responsive as my Tab and stutter considerably more.
I've also tried different Launchers. Performance across the board in my opinion isn't as consistent as the GS2 either.
I am looking forward to when they are released over here in the UK so I can compare performance to demo units in shops.
At some stage when I have some time I will post a Video.
I am convinced it is an optimisation issue as some Apps respond quickly - but again it's inconsistent.
I have a European Note like you - how did you remove the Carrier Apps?
No lag here on my note what I noticed alternative launchers were laggy so I am still on touchwiz till some optimizations come for other launchers maybe the high resolution is the reason.

The reviews like Engadget etc...have made a point of noticing the opposite...very fast responsiveness.
Hope they're right.
Coming off this Epic 4G Touch...which is blazing, a laggy Note will be a major dissapointment.
Get mine tomorrow.
Mine is laggy still awesome but laggy compared to my sgs2. Its not all laggy just in some areas and I clocked a 3948
I broke 3920 on stock. That's a pretty nice score, but yeah I noticed a bit of lag too.
When drawing the content quickly it noticeably drags behind the pen pointer. It's not enough to make drawing/writing unnatural, but it is definitely visible.
On the other hand I tossed on a 1920x1080 mp4 at 25fps and > 5,000kbps bitrate and it played flawlessly and looked beautiful.

Apparently there are some demo units at Oxford Streets carphone warehouse so I will compare and report back.
I get fast response apart from scrolling screens. Thats so laggy compared to my s2

It's probably worth noting that the demo ones will probably have been played with a lot, having multiple apps running in the ram etc, so they may seem more slugish than a device of your own where you haven't been jumping in and out of multiple apps all day. I'm hoping to find a Galaxy Note in my local store tomorrow but I'll be getting one either way.
My galaxy note is painfully laggy. It's very obvious when I play games, especially air hockey games. That's when I lament having splurged so much cash into this mediocre device. This thing lags so bad, even after reboot or clearing the memory. And it almost always hovers around 600 plus memory usage. Even when I clear memory, I get less than half of the 800 megabytes of RAM freed. This thing, compared to my former galaxy S2 has been a disappointment.
Mines smooth as ****, no lag at all. Must be some issues with certain apps I reckon!
For flashing a custom rocket ROM and tweak setcpu
I get t4600-5100 score.
Watching YouTube 1080p in Web browser has no lag at all.
Mine very smooth also... No lag.
I use launcher pro with the transition and scrolling speeds set to max.
Sometimes I think people just talking much...
Do you have Galaxy note? ?? Or u just trollling
Mine is smooth as butter with deodexed stock rom, no lag anywhere
I check most of people from this thread....your are from galaxy s II forum lol....come on people....I got Samsung galaxy s II and Note.....galaxy s II its a same **** just galaxy note much more sexy...dont forget

i scored 4500 on mine, stock KKA OTA update, no root, no customs.
did you clear ram or reboot after swapping launchers? if not, the old one will remain in the ram and slow things down.
so far, the galaxy note is the only portable device ive tried that is capable of playing 720p videos encoded at 60fps without frame dropping, so i'd say the quadrant score is to be believed, even though quadrant sucks as a benchmark.
ditch any widgets you dont use and then reset the device just to clear them out of ram.

I think we're talking different lags.
My Galaxy Note operates fine as far as looking at youtube or running apps is concerned. Although I haven't gone out of my way to test video playback at any given resolution, or any such rigorous testing.
What I'm talking about is the input delay that's not as responsive as it ought to be.
The most obvious example is when I try to play games -especially Air Hockey. The delay between my touching the screen and the actual response is so great that the phone itself at times just hangs. That is to say, I have to remove my finger from the screen and do a few check-taps, until the phone is ready to receive input. It's reminiscent of resting a book on top of your computer's keyboard and it enters the same letter so much that the PC starts to ignore entry, and just beeps (typematic rate overwhelming). This is disappointingly equally true with the pen -which was a little surprising but I suppose expected.
This is my current version and kernel.

Generally speaking, I personally think the Galaxy Note is an unfulfilled promise.

Samsung Galaxy Note - I tried to like it :-(

I tried to like the Galaxy Note. I really did. However, the size is just to overpowering for me. Plus, I couldn't shake the fact that the GS3 has come out as a more feature-proof device.
When I first got the phone, I was in LOVE, LUST, whatever! However, pulling it out of my purse begin to feel like a chore and the noticeable lag was not something I felt I had to deal with on a $600.00 phone. Now, I know you say, well stall a new launcher/rom. But guys, these treats should ADD to a phone not mask faults/shortcomings.
I have to say, after hearing that the Note II may be a bigger size, I have to wonder what brave soul would carry it? Soon, will be putting Ipads up to our ears!
All in all, I want to say that I have enjoyed the Note forums and have learned soo much. Kudos, to those who LOVE their phones and I wish you a smooth free experience going forward.
P.S. Not looking for a fight, please don't start one. We are entitled to our opinions. That's what makes the world go round
Any Note owners considering the move to the GS3? I'd love to hear from you.
Im sad you feel like that but i guess its personal preference,
For me Ive adapted to the size, at first it was overwhelming but now it feels normal, All other phones feel miniature lol !!
Im also considering the SGS3, but not to replace my Note ! I have 2 lines with my provider and ones almost up, So I think I may get the S3 or hold out for the note2
that being said, Phones are getting bigger and bigger now, The HTC One X is big, Hell even the SGS3 is big !!
I dont make a lot of calls, and when i do i have my head phones / bluetooth headset in, So i rarely need to hold it to my ear.
I love my ''Phablet'' !!!
I could have bought an S3, but I chose the note instead. The S3 has a very slightly better camera sensor and two more cores on a slightly better CPU.
I see the Note's size as a plus, but that's entirely subjective. Both are great devices, and either will serve you well. Sometimes it takes a day or two to really know if you really like a device enough to keep it.
Today I asked a retailer if I could swap my SGN for S3.
I consider moving to S3 because of superbrick bug and screen issues.
But I'm still holding ..... isn't S3 another Samsung phone ?
Little confusion but I'll follow S3 forums and decide.
I was on the.original 5" bandwagon with the sell streak, I have had my note since November and I won't consider anything other than a note 2 for my next device.
There really is no going back from the.functionality of a 5" screen, for me at least.

You are not masking anything..bad choice of words.
Using a better ROM makes the phone faster and a lot smoother. There is no masking involved is all too real and proves that is not a hardware fault.
I do it with every phone and in the case of the NOTE. I am not changing unless it is for a NOTE 2 or similar.

Ever heard of these little battery-powered race cars from some years ago?
You buy one, Car A, and it goes like say, just for the sake of an example, 20mph. You buy another one, Car B, and it goes for 15mph.
Then you get yourself some aftermarket parts - engines, wheels, or whatever, and modified both Car A and Car B and now you're sure they are both in their fastest. After doing that, Car A now goes at 30mph, while Car B goes at 40mph. Car B is faster now even if it was slower to begin with. It had more potential than Car A - but that won't be realized without some effort on your part. Also, it's also useful to note that the manufacturers of these two cars may be different from each other and may also not be expecting what you intend to do modify their cars as well.
Heck, why am I even using toy cars as a comparison? Should've went straight to phone comparisons and the text would've been much shorter. XD
Anyway, I'm assuming you have a Note. Try not to throw it away and just play with it. Maybe you'll find time to like it some day.
This is the best phone i ever had and i don`t feel the need to buy the Galaxy S3.
I`am not realy fond of touchwizz so i am running CM9, the phone is super fast, has no lags and does work as it is supposed to be.
I love the big screen for browsing, games, video`s and photo`s.
I will probably only change for the Note 2 :victory:

Difference of opinion. I stand by my original statement. I even upgraded to ICS and while it made some difference in smoothness, the results were negligible plus it added some problems.
Adding to my original post. I also think the Note is going to become the red-headed step-child now that the GS3 is out. May not be true, but that is my gut feeling. Besides, I bought my note, last week -- Technically, I'm already using outdated equipment. For those who are passed their return windows, the Note is great, but for those who still have time to AT LEAST play with the SG3, I would.

The only my 1 BIG reason getting the Note is S-pen. It really saves my work days apart from other BIG cool features.
If the S-pen means a lots to you then all other smartphones, out there, are being nothing nowadays.
do you really need it?
I'm sensing that you don't need a Note or the S3.
The note is all about utility and function, not form or fashion.
Are you just uncomfortable with not having the latest?
Just how fast/smooth do you need it to be?
If UI speed is your main concern, you need Windows Phone 7.
Looks like you want a WP7 phone like a Lumia 900.

Interesting discussion, and I'd like to post my opinion as well.
What clearly differentiates the Note from other phones is the size. And the pen. I almost forgot about the pen, as I hardly use it. For me, a Note would be equally fine if it came without the pen. Some will disagree here, as they have other usage requirements.
I deliberately chose the Note due to the screen size. I had iphone and other phones, and I use the phone frequently to watch movies and to browse the web during my frequent travels. Having used iphone and others previously, I got more and more depressed with the small screens. I can say that I appreciate the Note's larger screen and its great resultion. It makes these tasks simply more fun.
If someone performs tasks such as phone calls and SMS, the larger screen size does not benefit (much). So appreciation with the phone is releated to its use.
So I believe the phone serves people with certain specific requirements, and other features/functions are then simply less important.
Unfortunately for me, watching movies is somewhat affected by the bad screen gamma as reported at many several in the forum. But I still would not want to change back to a smaller size, as I am not much disturbed by it and I can live with the issue (also because my screen is by far not as bad as what some guys report here).
If I ever (have to) change the phone, I wish it would have the following characteristics:
1. Approx. same screen size, but certainly not smaller
2. No gamma issue / better gamma calibration
3. Better back camera (better sharpness, less distortion, better light sensitivity)
4. Provide root access out of the box (no jailbreak/rooting required)
5. Better battery life of Android OS (probably requires better software programming skills)
Performance-wise, I am totally happy with what I have now, and I am not requiring more CPU cores or higher frequency. My phone has been totally responsive all the time out of the box since November 2011.
I had GB 2.3.5, 2.3.6 and ICS 4.0.3, am now on Paranoid Android 0.4 as I totally disliked the email app in ICS. So the operating system still matters somewhat. So it is good to have a choice here.
The only time I feel that the Note is too big is when I am in "dangerous" zones in the city where people could snatch your phone anytime! I mean if you take out a smaller phone, it would probably go unnoticed at 60% of times, but with the Note out in your hands, this huge beast will surely attracts everyone's attention in 99% rate!
Otherwise, I never encountered any so called problems that many people are complaining about!
Some adapt to Note's size, some don't. Good thing is that we have a choice. I'm really against Apple-like "one size fits all" philosophy.
from a gamer's perspective i say : f*ck all other phones, the screen is just perfect for my taste.

Reviews, Feedback & Opinions on Note 10.1

The idea behind this thread is to have all reviews, opinions and feedback of note users collated under one roof.
This would make things simple for everyone easy to post opinions updates feedback, for those who look upon us before making a purchasing decision easier to find them.
I hope this is not take in a wrong way the whole idea is to get things organize so information is easier to find and not scattered around but not boss around or offend anyone.
I just got my note yesterday and I have to say that it's a pretty amazing and fast piece of tech. I'll come back to edit this review more as I use it (and receive my case so I can use it a little more roughly like I normally do).
So far:
Pros-
Amazingly fast.
No stutters (I had the original Transformer TF101.. which had lags sometimes).
Sound is amazing (why don't other tablets have front speakers?).
Wacom stylus is streets ahead of capacitive crap / sorry adonit jot just doesn't cut it).
Multi-tasking is awesome!
Cons-
S-note is.. underwhelming. (But lecture notes was great!) Seriously wished s-note was better because I kind of like it.
Multi-tasking is limited.. (although we get the Galaxy Note 2's multitasking abilities after we get jb right?)
EDIT:
Just used this for class.. and doodling, amazing! It's like taking notes on paper, without the weight and fuss and ink and ****, and I can copy and paste stuff. Also, I used it in the crapper, and it's amazing for reddit and stuff because it won't crash from loading too many images. But the stylus is freaking fantastic! AHHHh! (BTW, LectureNotes is definitely worth it. I like Papyrus more than it in the beginning because Papyrus was easier to use, but LectureNotes' customizability is waaaaay worth the learning curve.)
This is a general trend because of the aprehensions created by biased reviews people have doubts before purchasing a note but ones they have got one they are happy I have yet to see any one regretting purchasing a note
It is a great devices there is no doubt about it
I do not use S notes so no positive or negative feedback but yes those on JB say there are some improvements on Snote
The multiapps feature is limited and with JB some more apps have been added but again no google native apps have been added but the reason for the limitation is due to the reason that for every app code needs to be added and apps needs to be recompiled the problem is that Samsung cannot control the updates of google apps they are push directly and hence it will be difficult but I think in future as time goes by more and more developers will adapt the feature and so the number of apps with multiview will grow

I still love using my Note 10.1. Its never given me any problems. Its worked well out the box since day one. So much so that I stayed stock and feel no need to root it. Can't wait till we get JB update. I am very tempted to get a Nexus 10 also. Bit I have too many devices as it is. This device performing so well makes it hard to justify getting another android tab. Aside from screen resolution increase and newer/more powerful processor. And HDMI port built onto device..lol
The only improvements that I would make hardware wise, would be screen resolution and more memory. Software changes would be more apps available to be used in multi screen.
Other than that everything else is spot on.
Another victory for Galaxy note 10.1
http://www.designntrend.com/article...ng-galaxy-note-apple-microsoft-surface-rt.htm
Here’s yet another blow for Apple, which is embroiled in a multi-billion dollar battle with Samsung.
Consumer Reports, a magazine that reviews consumer products, recently pitched Samsung Galaxy Note, and not the market-dominating iPad, as the most groundbreaking tablet of 2012.
Based on performance and innovation, the magazine noted that “the 10-inch Galaxy Note adds capabilities that no other tablet, not even the Apple iPad, currently offers. An excellent performer overall, it almost matches the superb battery life of the iPad and adds a memory-card slot that its rival lacks.”
Like Us on Facebook
On the design front too, many reviewers feel that the Galaxy Note scores over the third generation of iPad. For instance, the Apple iPad 3 has an all aluminum back and glass front, which makes the device heavy. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note has gone for a plastic construction, which makes it easy to hold for long hours.
But if its style over substance, the iPad 3 is the best choice as it “looks and feels like the premium option,” according to an IBTimes

Until the note 10.1 is used as the reference tablet, or reviewed without comparison to other tablets will be the day. Until that day arrive the iPad is still top dog for most.

Very true. But it's hard because the iPad has been cemented in people's heads as THE tablet. Honestly, most people I know (who aren't tech people, but aren't "stupid, tech-phobes" just refer to all tablets as "iPads" in the same way people refer to tissue as kleenex. I'm not sure how any tablet can get away with not being compared to the iPad unless Apple bankrupts or keeps getting bad publicity (and still, not that much honestly) for suing everyone for everything.
Its a brand preception which was generated we can say the same for Iphone but yet S3 has over taken it, yes all people are not techsavy but most of them understand a difference between Ipad and Note the only reason they buy an Ipad is because of the hype surrounding it again it is a brand which has generated over time and it is a good product there is no denying that
Overtime like things have changed for Iphone it will change of Ipad because Apple has reached its peak and now it will slide down like Apple Samsung is looking towards reaching its peak and after it enjoys its stay over there someone else will do that.
After using the note 10.1 for 3 months, I feel that if you are looking for a generic tablet for media and content consumption, a tablet like iPad or the nexus 10 will be more suitable for you, with higher resolution screen on paper and either same price or cheaper. However if you're looking for true productivity, multitasking and content creation (taking notes, replacing pen and paper for a student), note 10.1 is definitely the best option. Well if you're reading this you're definitely not a generic user or average consumer so you know what to choose I personally have no regrets buying it as a student. Have not touched a pen or paper for very long and my laptopis collecting slightly more dust than ever.
i used my note for like 1 month , i really loved it so much , good screen res , very good smooth , no lag at all
u can hold ur pen and type what u want , multitasking are very poweful
i can play all games , i can play with photoshop
finally all i can say u will hold tablet that makes u dont need a PC
Best Tablet I Have Ever Used
Coming from the Asus Transformer Prime TF201, I have to say, this tablet is amazing. My prime suffered from WiFi, Bluetooth, gps light bleed, and I/O issues, even with sending it to Asus. This tablet fixes all of that and still adds more. I was worried about the screen being small, but I looked at the specs of my Prime to find out they both have the same resolution. This tablet is fast, sleek, and does everything I wanted in a tablet. I would highly recommend this tablet to anyone who wants a productivity device or creative device.
I had to make the hard decision between the Nexus 10 & the Note 10.1. I watch a lot of videos & I love great looking picture quality. The Nexus 10 was the best choice in that department, but it didn't offer much else to me personally right out of the box. The Note 10.1 on the other hand did (especially since I'm a student). After looking at the reviews, I was kind of down on the screen, but I was quite impressed when I actually saw it in the store. The screen is not top of the line, but it's actually quite good. Coming from a long line of AMOLED products, the colours look fantastic. Highly recommend this for students & those who just want their tablets to do more.

This was my deciding factor(along with the fact I had a newegg gift card). The "reviewers" harp on it for having a 1200 x 800 screen, instead of looking at what it offers. I decided to look at amazon reviews which praised the tablet. I also went into the store to check it out to find the screen really beautiful. I would highly recommend someone go into the store and check out tablets instead of reading paid reviewers.
The reviewers have only one major so called flaw by them to work with thats the display so all they do is use it to critized the note and create an impression that it is a bad peice of hardware what is surprising is that for a so called bad device there is only praises from the actual users

They have to find something to grab on to make the device seem worse then the iPad. It is amazing what they say sometimes.
My opinion about note 10.1
I have the impression there is two distinct opinions about the note, i don't know why.
Before i buy the note 10.1 i read a lot of reviews from sites and magazines and so on, and most of all don't give me a good impression of the note 10.1. In general it was a regular tablet.
But in other way when reading the opinion of the users, all of them said wonderful things, some of them already use other tablets like Ipad. And the most important was that they talk about things that i didn't read on the reviews.
One of that things was the S-Pen, yes they talk about it, but, just superficial. I use the pen to do almost everything, write mails, documents, notes, internet.
I can edit photos and videos using software that came installed by root, don't need to buy it. I can make art with it (abstract art because my drawings....). I have real multitask.
I use this tablet for working, not just for read, or using the internet, thats the big diference. Everything i do on a computer i do it here, with a litle bit of practice, but I can do it.
About the display, have anyone already put the note 10.1 side by side with a full HD, my laptop is 17" full hd and i didn't found any diference. Perhaps brightness and colors, but even the same display could appaer different on this aspects, but in the pixels I cannot find.
As you can see i like very much my note 10.1 :good:

Is it worth the updgrade?

Hi Guys. Looking for honest opinions on the Nexus 7 (2013) as I have the Nexus 7 (2012) 32Gb and am looking to upgrade. Want to know if it's worth it? I know the spec is better, but wanted some opinions of people who have used it to advise how it feels, have the touchscreen issues been fixed, and other reported issues with first batches. Many Thanks in advanced
Is an upgrade in every aspect of the first. The screen is sooooo much better and with the new processor there is zero lag. Those were my main two issues with the first and I'm extremely happy with the second one.
>^.^< Sent From Meow HTC One
I'm coming from the ASUS TF300T (10" tablet). Granted, I never used the OG N7, but the TF300T also has a Tegra 3 processor, just clocked a little slower.
Physical differences:
While the change in size was a little bit of an adjustment for me (took like 20mins of use), it quickly grew on to me. I can easily hold it with one hand, as opposed to resting the 10" across my upper arm/wrist. It also fits into the pocket of just about any of my pants, and you would never tell.
Speed vs. Lag:
I can tell you that the difference between the two is night and day. You barely notice the tab slow down if you are installing/updating apps. There were times where the browser would not respond to my pinches, but the navigation bar would still respond as normal. I'm not sure if that's a problem with the tablet, or with Chrome. Might be Chrome, but I haven't used ugh of the other browsers (except for Dolphin, which allows me to save my downloads where I want to before it begins).
Multitasking is awesome. You sometimes forget which apps were running in the background, but 8 different apps later, and the old ones still reload instantly, without any redraw.
Conclusion:
This was my short review of the N7.2. I know that I left out a lot of topics, but I listed the reasons why I switched. Yes, the OG N7 isn't slow, but going forward, you will begin to see where its older hardware begins to lag behind.
The upgrade isn't necessary, in my opinion, but it's worth the money. If it's too much of a sacrifice, then simply wait for something that's way better.

Big upgrade for me. The screen is much better, imo, and I don't have any touchscreen issues.
I like the slightly slimmer form factor, and the speed bump is noticeable to me.
No regrets upgrading from the original N7 here.
Look at it like this:
I am speaking from experience I own both models 2012 and 2013
Tegra 3 still kicks the adreno GPU's butt at games no matter what people try to tell me.Consider this....on the TEGRA N7 you can O.C you GPU to over 600 MHZ...its not the safest but its wayhigher and performs better than the 2013 model which tops out at UNDER 500MHZ.
I have both tablets on the same ROM with the same kernel running at their stock frequencies and tegra delivers better gaming despite the 2012 N7 screen being crappy.
Now... as far as overall smooth performance and usage the new N7 is the clear winner since it runs at higher frequencies and has a better CPU, better screen with higher ppi. You also have more RAM, dual speakers, two cameras, and less bezzel.
They are both great I own N7 2012 32GB wifi and N7 2013 32GB LTE.
I use my old one only for games so memory is full now and use my new one mainly for every thing from emails for work, apps, surfing and even voice calls with groove ip. you can still play games and they look great but I feel tegra is always going to deliver slightly and maybe even better gaming performance with future tegra chips.
hope it helps this is just my take on it
Edit: Don't get me wrong it is deffinitely an upgrade in every sense of the word, and I would say go and upgrade but it really depends what you use it for and if it makes sense to spend the money as well. The new N7 is a great device and I waited for it very much until the ATT version came out on GOOGLE PLAY.. just depends what you want it for that's all

You must get a lot of people trying to tell you otherwise. Come on, the Adreno 320 dumps all over the Tegra 3's GPU both on paper and in benchmarks and pretty sure I've seen some actual game results too. It's also a widely known fact that that NVIDIA has always sucked for mobile GPU's, even still with the Tegra 4.

i have a tegra 3 device and an Xperia Z (adreno 320-1080p).
on the z every game works lagfree on highest graphics, on tegra there are a lot of lags and stutters.
Xperia Z-Vanir AOSP
Whether to upgrade or not is going to come down to personal wants and needs, I think.
My personal experience:
I've spent a total of probably an hour, over the course of a couple visits, playing with the 2013 model at a local store. That was enough device time for me to decide that the upgrade wasn't worth it....for me. I did everything I normally do (or as much as possible with a display model) on the 2013 and came away underwhelmed. For my needs (reading, email, news, calendar) I really couldn't tell the difference between the two (the screen included).
Anyway, my needs are obviously simple, so mileage will vary.
I have upgraded and can say: A huge improvement!
On the 2012 model, display contrast was poor, and text was not completely sharp - so you could read web sites with small text on it, but it was straining for the eyes, especially when the text was not black (e.g grey like in the Play Store or Youtube app).
On the 2013 model, all is very easily readable and eye-friendly (although my Tablet Z has even better contrast).
This alone is worth an upgrade.
I like my new Nexus 7, just as much as I enjoyed the 1st gen I had.
As the old model is an awesome tablet, I managed to sell it easily, and the price to upgrade was minimal, so that was a great incentive to upgrade. The new model has these improvements that I think is worth the upgrade:
A) the faster speed/processor plus the 2MB ram... everything is just slightly less laggy, most notably when multitasking many RAM-heavy apps at once, and switching back and forth between them
B) the dual/stereo speakers is a nice upgrade
C) the lack of any noticible pixels in the screen due to the massive resolution bump-up
D) the form factor of both models is excellent, but the new one is a bit lighter (quite a bit) plus thinner and all around better to handle
E) I don't have a cellphone, so the rear camera is a nice addition
Really though, both are excellent in all regards... I don't play GPU intensive games, so maybe there is a reason to upgrade as well, but I doubt it... If you can sell your 1st one easily, do it... Whoever gets your old one will be getting a killer tablet, and you will be (slightly) future-proofing yourself by having the latest and greatest.

Tegra 4 GPU isn't that bad. It's just a bit better than Adreno 320 but behind 330.
I have the tf300 and now the n7 2013, I think for browsing and other small things they are equally smooth (provided you run 4.3 on the tf300, otherwise it's laggy as hell) but I have to say this screen is beautiful, as good as the HTC one x (which is pretty damn good, just not as good as the HTC one), font in portrait are crisp and easy to read, unlike for instance the tf300 which could really only be used in landscape. Viewing angles are good too unlike for instance the tablet z.

I don't go by benchmarks benchmarks are useless... I play the same game on both and I notice the tegra 3 will play them way better regardless what a piece paper says. I don't wanna try to convince you because it really doesn't do anything for me lol but having both I can see the differences and where one beats the other.
Its very funny you bring up benchmark results though and amusing....I guess you haven't read all the recent stuff about how most OEMS cheat benchmarks but then again some people will believe whatever they're told. I guess if I tell u apples are blue you'd believe it.

Well most of those benchmarks have the exact same workload as playing a game, thus it is impossible for a GPU 3x faster in such benchmarks to be slower in a game, unless there are serious issues with the game itself.
Also, you must be too slow to comprehend what you read, otherwise you'd know that stock Android devices (Nexuses) don't cheat in any way. Therefore how could OEMs cheating in benchmarks affect comparing a Nexus 7 2012 to 2013 in any way whatsoever? Lol you should probably just stop posting you obviously have no idea what you are on about.

agreed.

think twice when you choose this device

Did you know the s6 doesnt suport HDMI to TV as it is possible with s3,s4,s5 even 3d, note 3, note 4. so you need chromecast also the s5,note 3 and note 4 have longer battery on same usage.
Another fact is that the 32 bit CPU in note 4 has a slightly higher score in futuremark benchmarks as the s6 means its GPU performs worse while both devices have the same screen resolution. The antutu score is just higher because its CPU performs better. The new tegra x1 has even twice the gpu performance as the s6 and will be in some devices this year.
Its not waterproof. Supports no SD card. U cant replace its battery. People report even Rotation issues after wireless Charing. Tw gets laggy as hell. & im pretty sure nobody noticed it that the only reason note 4 had no official lollipop update to make people buy the s6. Even s4 hat the update so dont claim.
It looks good. And is well built. But you dont build a fast car that cant fit its fuel Inside. So this devices is more a test, overpower experiment of samsung. This fall we will see the note 5 with redicilous 4k resolution. And its overpower again just to show that they "can", f(_)cks not given about the consumer & shots been fired from apple. Iphone 6 still almost the same performance with 1/3 of the ram s6 has.
By the way the new TV box by nvidea tegra x1 is already 4k. And it does handle doom3, crysis 3 and unreal engine4 easily. And yes its Android and we will see it on smartphones too.
At the moment note 4 is the better choice because the images will look sharper on it/ due larger screen, you will have more fun with it.
Yeah. I've been thinking double twice before bought the s6, love it. My s5 still rock steady as my backup if my s6 runs out of juice

Normally I don't reply on these idiotic posts.
But your slanter and crying about the S6 makes me more think like you want one but can't afford it? Correct me if I'm wrong but I seriously can't find a legitimate reason why you should qq so much about something you supposedly not like.
None of the 'downsides' you listed are concerns to me. It's really up to each buyer.
What kind of archaic world do we live in that we have to do HDMI out still? Man buy a chromecast or any miracast dongle on amazon.
S6 owner here, S3 as previous devices, my wife using I9505(search it if u dont know).
my aunty and uncle use N3, my best friends N4, this listed phone are all phone that i serviced phone consistancely, regarding what i know so far, N3 had quite less lag on default TW, only lag in gallery as everyone know(only whn its a lot of photo inside) and i dont see N4 having higher score in any benchmark app comparing to my S6, yet S6 TW rom really have the light apps vs N4...
i already installed a lot apps on my phone and i still running smooth, no heat up issues, battery last long enough as only 2550mAh vs S4 2600, SoT 5hrs vs 2.3hrs, 14nm vs 28nm, 50fps(1440p) vs 38fps(1080p) on antutu benchmark test.
Yet.. google officially claim that bug on android 5.0 will be solve in android 5.1. Im living in Malaysia, S4 i9500 already on Lollipop (no doubt), N3 also already got its Lollipop update last week.
ram vs performance, did anyone say that ram mean performance, what do you mean by almost the same performance with 1/3ram they got. Comparing different platform is quite not fair as u should know its different in many point, take a window mobile n compare then?
android can play in many ways, its not like old time, 3GB of ram, multitasking is not a problem in S6. i dont think apple can do it... (jail breaken ipad can use split screen, try it and u will know why ram so big in S6). even my S3 got better ram vs ipad2.
In short, that up to everyone's point of view. i love S6 camera, the design of the phone. even i lost adcard support, but usb otg available for all android phone, i lost change able battery, but i just need to charge below 1Hour, because 1Hour give 90% Battery. With minimum 5Hours of SoT daily usage is good enough for me, including 2hours on CC or SW(both online Games).
the s6 is stop gap phone for me, waiting for the note5 because i broke my previous phone. The S6 is a very nice phone though, nicest one I ever had
could please some mod close this idiot topic that steals space to other ppl n devs, thanks
One thing you can't level at this phone is lag. TW is still perfectly snappy on mine since I ditched Nova again for it. Apps reload but as long as you have animations on default, by the time the app is on screen it's reloaded.
The screen issues I have were present on Note 4 anyway.
As for using it with a TV, not interested.

The 2 things I put in bold in your message just kill your credibility.
My S6 is full of apps, rooted and customized like hell, yet I've never seen it lag (not even a bit, so the "like hell" seems completely bias).
About the benchmark, you really want to chose the single benchmark that suits what you want to say to prove your point?
What about the fact that every single other GPU benchmark (GFXBench,...) give is completely in favor of the S6 (by far)? Yeah I guess you don't really want to talk about those
What is OP trying to achieve here? Theres already a thread about things like that.

What kind of archaic world do we live in that we have to do HDMI out still? Man buy a chromecast or any miracast dongle on amazon.

I am absolutely not taking sides with the OP here, but I have to say that I was a bit annoyed that Samsung removed the HDMI out for the S6.
Serious question: I often go on holiday to a house which has no wifi, can I somehow still use chromecast to stream films from the S6 to the TV in the house (the TV has HDMI ports)? I used to to this all the time with the MHL cable on my other android phones and it worked incredibly well.
Move along folks, nothing to see here. Just upping my post count before this thread gets locked.
