What's wroing with LG? - G Pad 8.3 General

In the Atlanta area, where I live, I can't find a single B&M store that has the G Pad on display. At one of the local Best Buy stores, they had a couple of units in stock, but the batteries weren't charged and they were not on display.
There are only 2 authorized dealers in the US, Best Buy and Newegg. Neither of the two is actively pushing the G Pad.
I have to guess that LG has spent a lot of money developing this product . People are not going to buy a product like this if they can't see it in stores and try it out. Black Friday is little more than a week away and we are moving into the major season for electronics sales. I can't understand why LG is making such a feeble marketing attempt. They seem to be setting themselves up for a massive failure.
I think this product is very good and could be a big winner with good marketing, but the window is closing for LG. They need to get this into B&M stores, get more online vendors, and lower the price.
The only possible explanation that I can think of for the current state of affairs is that LG really is about to produce a Nexus 8 version of the G Pad. In that scenario, they may have made a deal with Google to divert production in that direction. They may also have decided that they can sell more of the devices under the Nexus name and benefit by letting Google pay for the advertising and marketing. This would be a smart move.
Time will tell!

I'm having the same problem here in Charlotte. Out of about 20 stores in the area, only two show as having them in stock and that's only the white model. I visited two different Best Buys last weekend and neither of the associates there had even heard of it.

Just left a BB store. The store employee had never heard of the G Pad. He looked it up and was surprised to find that they had 2 in stock. Of course they were not on display. If the BB employees have never heard of it, how many people in the general public are going to find out about it? This is a massive marketing failure.

this is part of the reason i returned mine. If a company doesn't care enough to market a device, then they sure as hell aren't going to support it. It's sounding more and more like that blue line problem on the screen is a hardware design issue on every unit and with so little attention being given to this device by LG, I'd be shocked if they did anything to resolve the issue in future units (if they even plan on producing more beyond their initial batches).

I am in the Atlanta area too and could not find it in the stores. I went to Kennesaw and Alpharetta stores with no luck, let me know if you find one! I'm dying to get my hands on one
I agree they have 5 samsung devices on display (some are repeats of the same device) but no LG? The LG looks SO much better IMO

There is no way we can get it in Canada either. No stores have it in stock online or in store, or have made any mention of ever getting it. Pretty disappointing because I was strongly considering getting it, but wanted to play with it for a few minutes to be sure of my decision.

The blue line issue doesn't really sound like a big deal to me. My concern is how few of these devices are being sold, at least in the US. I would guess that very few people in the US own one of these, possibly just a few hundred. Based on the inept marketing, the G Pad is shaping up to be an orphaned product.
Right now, I'm deeply disappointed and a little pissed off. I've been watching the developments around the G Pad for a month with plans to buy one.
My strategy now is to wait until either:
A: the G Pad morphs into the Nexus 8 (that would be great)
or
B: They unload however many they have manufactured and start dumping them after the holidays at closeout prices (say $150)
I don't see where else this is going to go.

"LG Restructures Smartphone Division"
I just saw this article about LG "restructuring" it's mobile division to focus more on TVs. This report says that they have dumped 10% of their workforce in the smartphone division. Sounds like LG has decided that phones and tablets are not where they are going to be putting their efforts.

That's how I feel. But I'm not stooping to an iPad. Maybe I'll get an N7 and wait for somebody else to make a good 8 inch tablet.

I can't even return mine at this point, and selling it probably wouldn't net much interest. I really like the 8" form factor, though, so the N7 is out of the question.

Looks like no money will be spent for marketing. Although they are making tons off the nexus 4 and 5 and Do not have to spend a dime on marketing since Google will. Seems like the gpad is just extra pocket change for them. And I still want a G2 since they won't be putting much effort into future devices lol.

But I've seem plenty of LG G2 commercials on TV. A whole heck of a lot more for it than the HTC One. Btw, you may already know this but Best Buy has a deal where you can save $200 if you buy both the G2 and G-Pad (if you haven't bought the G-Pad yet).

I've seen the one about taking action shots only. And didn't know about that promo. But I'm still on contract until November 2014, and mine was paid for by work as I recommended it for some of my duties

honestly even if LG focus will shift I am still interested in this tablet. That article sounded like they are just focusing on TV to get more money for their smartphones so maybe it will be a good thing.

I don't think they're making any "extra pocket money" on the Gpad. I would think that they will not even be able to recoup their investment if they don't make some effort to sell more. I would bet that the number sold in the US, so far, must be in the hundreds. No way that can be profitable.

They put G Pro internals, bigger battery and better screen and possibly make it in the same assembly line as the G pro and g2 and sell it for $329 to $349 in just the US. There is also Korea. Others sell their no name brand tablets for $100 and still profit.
I'm sure LG is making money off each sale as opposed to needing to sell a certain amount to recoup the cost to make it.
But hey, I don't have any evidence of this lol

I'm surprised so many people are having trouble finding it. Here in St. Louis the BB closest to me had at least 6. When I went to check it out first they had it on display, but when I went back to buy it a few days later it wasn't on display anymore. Also I can sort of understand only selling in BB if LG wasn't expecting to sell a ton as it would have the best chance for exposure, however that only works if it's on display.

The lack of G Pad in Best Buy is all Best Buy. LG wants it on display side by side the G2 but Best Buy has been lacking in displaying the Tablet.
LG isn't leaving the Smartphone/Tablet market, rather they are going to focus on a streamlined product line, no flooding the market with 10 variations of high and low end devices like Samsung. You might instead see LG come out with 3-4 handsets for the entire year.

Thats a ton of complaints coming out for only 20k sales.
Not being available in T-Mo stores really hurt sales. I think being able to see this screen and hold it in person would move a hell of alot more units.

Agree with this though. Ive been saying I hope a ton of people want it but few get it. That way Google is pressed to resolve there customer service and HW issues and early adopters dont look like bandwagon jumpers for the latest fashion device.
On the flip side... I hope Google doesnt turn around and blame Tmobile. Tmo and Google have been continually bringing out Android sets I hope that relationship doesnt sour because of this.
Actually 20k in sales for a phone that has reportedly had the vast majority of users buy the unlocked version is pretty damn good (Leo Laporte mentioned it on TWiT on Sunday)

As much as I give credit to Apple for what they've done with the iPhone, the iPhone has become the "razr" of phones.....the "Wal-Mart" of phones....
The bad press on this phone is silly. It takes nothing into consideration, bends around the truth, and just sounds misinformed. This phone had a soft launch, wasn't available in stores, no television ads, and wasn't really advertised by Google until the day of it's launch.
These soft launches make an impact. Word will spread and then it will pop up and explode on Verizon. I'm not even trying to defend the device, it just makes me angry seeing so much misinformed crap popping up on the web.

Mixed reviews meaning angry fanboys? I don't get it. The thing runs Android really well, is fast as hell, looks great, has a good camera, etc. I have no idea what people were expecting. Android has been out, and this was stated to be an Android device.

To be honest, and trying to be unbiased, I think these numbers are ok for Google. Here's why I say that... given the marketing channel used here (online only sales and advertising), I suspect that Google is banking on a moderate rate of sales early on, with an increase a little later. Most people like to see and touch something prior to dropping hundreds of dollars on it. I think Google is counting on the early adopters to buy the phones, and then once we have them and others start seeing and playing with them, they will start buying. In theory, this should work the same as if the N1 would have been sold in stores, except the initial sales would be lighter and the rate of sales would be steeper after the first few weeks.

#1. It's hard for someone to drop that much cash on a phone unseen. Like others have pointed out, it's hard to sell a mobile phone without being able to "touch" it and play with it at a retail store.
#2. The N1 is one of the first handsets relatively available for purchase which has the Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. I honestly think the "hacking" community for the N1 will be similar of what the G1 (HTC Dream) has seen... In other words, the HTC Passion is basically the next great hacking platform as the HTC Dream experienced.

Also, to add onto this...I don't think the price is steep at all. In fact it is cheaper than many other unlocked devices with lesser hardware. Also, it has been pointed out in many places that getting the unlocked version is cheaper than going with the subsidized version and mandatory plan.
When a phone can be purchased only from one location and one URL only gadget freaks like us know about it's existence. Some of my friends who think they are gadget freaks were shocked to see my phone over the weekend. They didn't even know about it yet. Forget the common man. Unless, the phone is sold in T-mobile, and B&M stores, it will be hard to sell like Driod.
Except for lousy T-mobile 3G inside buildings, I love this phone. But I am seriously thinking about returning just to go back to AT&T as I would like to stay with the best GSM carrier who gets most unlocked 3G phones so I can keep changing my phones every few months.

I agree. This seems similar to Gmail when it was in Beta....and Gvoice. Only certain people had it and it was invite only. This seems to make a launch more manageable (less volume) and the inital adopters are the ones who typically want it the most and spread the word to others for free.
I want one... I just don't want to pay $530 to be a beta tester. I think once the 3g issues are solved we'll see alot more people pay for the phone
once Verizon and vodaphone get this phone. Sales will SKY rocket.
Instore sales
The only way for a big change in sales would be to sell the Nexus One in stores, mainstream buyers are not going to spend premium money on a handset that they can not handle first.
There are not enough early adopters and tech heads like most of us on this site to make a major impact on sales. Plus many of us are holding off to see how the 3G issue gets handled before buying.
since they didnt really air commercial for the phone and it is only available online. the numbers are pretty good.

Yeah... Putting the parts together... probably costs more than the parts themselves, including labor.
Sure, I could get the "parts" for my car too for less than a quarter of what it sells for... I wouldn't want to try to assemble it though!

Can you send me a link to where you found out the hardware only cost $175 for the nexus one. I would like to see how much the snapdragon proc costs, and the 512mb of ram, and all the other components in the phone, and just the cost of putting it together.
And I am not referring to licensing, manufacturing, advertising, shipping, Government Taxes, etc.
Just the hardware and the costs to put the phone together. I call bull**** on the $175 dollars.
That is how much it might cost to put together the iphone 3gs with much cheaper hardware. But the Nexus One hardware is another story.

At $800 I still think I'll be picking it up pending a couple of confirmations.
The first being that the HDMI outputs the entire screen like on the Notion Ink Adam, and not like my EVO with only outputting from 2 specific applications.
Second is that they won't require a charge/service to activate WiFi. I have no interest in mobile data. If I need access where I don't usually have it I can tether it to my phone.
I want honeycomb, and I want the higher resolution screen over the Adam, so I'm willing to pay more for them. Until it's released or an official price (rather than a leaked possibly faked/mocked up ad) I'll have to wait and see.
same. my nexus one tethers very well. With unlimited 3g plan from tmobile, im all set on data.
I voted that the Xoom is too expensive for my taste.To be honest, the Toshiba tablet is actually better spec'd than the Xoom. I think I'm going to wait for that one. It's rumored to be $500 wifi only.
I'm getting it regardless. My verizon account is under a military suspension until I re-activate it at no charge, and I currently have a $160 credit on it lol. I just found out, so it's almost like I'm getting it for $640. Hopefully it gets subsidized by vzw for 300, then I can just get it and cancel, then really get it for $650.
I'm not worried about price, it will get worked out... all this talk about the price should show motorola there is a huge consumer demand for their tablet.
I'm a no but with a caveiat. I don't need a 32 gig tablet. If Moto comes out with a 16 gig version that would fall more in line with my price point.

I'm on board with existing conditions. Notion Ink Adam is still vapor to me. As much as I applaud their David and Goliath struggle that is increasing rare, I must face facts. There is no guarantee that they will be around in 2 years, hell they could be hemorrhaging funds and be under in the next 6 months.
I also don't think the 1.2" smaller screen on the LG G-Slate will make up for the extra 5mp camera, and 120hz capable screen. Plus, who the hell asked for 3D in a tablet. It's as bad as Sprint's stupid kyocera dual screen phone. It's an industry first AND LAST.
Toshiba Tablet seems like a botched job. How does a tablet get a fancy photoshop/flash website before a name . I don't suspect there will be many cheap tablets this year without sacrifices in quality. Example the semi-crappy screen in the Viewsonic G-Tablet I returned.
It's XOOM XOOM XOOM for me. I just hope I can hold back the tears when I charge 963$ for the XOOM and the Folio case.

How much do you think it would drop? I don't think there is much difference between the 16/32gb memory anymore. I highly doubt that the difference is more the $50 and that is probably a high estimate!
16 is standard on almost all new/upcoming devices. I think all the vendors are just depleting their stocks.
I think Toshiba has learned from the Folio 100 tablet disaster, and the will come with a much better product. Not too many companies get a second chance in such a short period of time.

One possible issue I have with the G-Slate is lack of an SD card slot. I've been looking at images and reading through descriptions, and not only is there no sign of a slot, but it looks like they're marketing it as a device with 32GB storage... period. Also, I agree that the 3D is pointless and unnecessary, but I'm still willing to give the tablet a fair shake.
If all reports are wrong, and the Xoom is closer to $650, I'll buy it on day one. If it's between $700 and $800, I'm waiting for another month. After all, we know that HTC and Asus are in the mix as well.
I think we need the option of "I will when the price comes down".
I told myself i would cringe and jump for the 700 price point. 800 - that is hard to justify. Yes, people, i know it's comprable to the ipad (with those specs), which is why i bought an iPad off craigslist for under 400 bucks - because it met my price point. I could literally take a weeklong cruise for the same price.
As for the contract - no thanks, this will be on wifi unless I am on a road trip or something. Even then - the Evo does wifi hotspot.

Looking around the market, I don't see much room for the XOOM to drop. After owning a Viewsonic G-Tablet, I think I see the shape of 500$ tablets. That tablet was good, except that it skimped on pretty much everything. It had a substandard screen(bad viewing angles), substandard touch sensitivity, a finicky wifi adapter(possibly software), and it seems that they installed the accelerometer wrong. Apps that only ran in portrait were always upside down.
I am not sure, but I think the Toshiba Folio 100 was only marginally less of a train wreck. A $650 XOOM would be fantastic, but maybe impossible. I think the iPad is only as cheap as it is because of some unique and smart investments by Apple, and their extremely iterative process of baby steps forward. This cheapens their process. Also they can, not saying they are, take a loss on the tablet, or use a razer thin profit margin and make it up in apps. Motorola has to make their money on the XOOM itself, Apple can play a different game. Then again there is a company with no buying power, Notion Ink, that confounds me. Perhaps the industry has me brainwashed.
I want to just go to sleep and wake up on the 24th.
DCVIPERBOY. There is no contract. Just Verizon forcing you to pay for one month of service to ensure they make some money on this.
Anyone see the FCC report on engadget? Looks like the wifi version is passing through. Hoping it'll launch the same day as the 3g/4g version. 650 could put moto back in the game.

I dont need a 3g plan with a tablet - I can use my phone as a hotspot for that if need be.... why would I want to pay twice monthly?

i will be getting it regardless of the price. my wife and i are getting an very good return and we figured that we can spend money on something that we really want but probably wont be able to get later. Is that I have not seen a review of the Xoom anywhere. Has anybody else? Somehow Motorola was able to get a Xoom in Chad Ochocinco's hands a month ago but I haven't seen any evidence that Motorola has shipped review units to media members. Will we have to wait until after release on Thursday to see any reviews? This release has been so shady that I'm waiting until after I see a credible reviewer verify all of Motorola's claims before I consider purchasing.

There have been countless reviews. You mean you want an in-depth detailed review from someone who gets to use the device "in the wild". That is not out yet, and that is normal for a new device of this sort. The devices we have seen so far aren't ready for primetime, and we can only hope that the XOOM I pick up in 4 days is ready.
The release isn't shady, it's just a little rushed. They are trying to bring the device to market ASAP. Would you rather they push the release by a month and send out samples to reviewers? I think the review I put on YouTube will be better than most professional reviews, except for the methodical, if anecdotal, reviews Engadget and other upper echelon tech blogs post.

I disagree. It is shady in the way they are forcing people to pay an extra $35 activation fee plus $20 min service just to activate WiFi. Yes, it is stated in the small print but still, bad business and shady in my mind.

If you consider that Verizon has put money into this project, it's fair to expect them to make a profit on each unit. I think that they should have worked something out with Best Buy that allowed them to take a cut from the 800$, but the result would have been the tablet costing 850$.
Hasn't a rumor been floating around that buying direct from Verizon would require no activation? As counter-intuitive as that may sound, it tracks as Motorola is selling the XOOM 3G wholesale for 550$. So if BB sells it, they keep the 250$ difference, if Verizon sells it, they don't need you to pay for a month of service because they have already made 250$.
It's not shady, but arguably bad business from a consumer image angle. People who don't understand what is going on, or people who simply don't care will look poorly upon the policy. Knowing that there is a WiFi Only version for 200$ less down the road should assuage any issues. But you still have the right to be mad, even if it just gives you heartburn

You sound like a lawyer It is bad business and consumers will speak with their wallets. This price point will not ultimately work. And we still do not know actual issues with the device including what is going on with the SD support. I was all excited about this before but now, I cannot see paying $900 without a single accessory.

Yup. I am planning to go to law school . I agree with you. I just have a habit of playing devil's advocate, and trying to inform other consumers so they don't get enraged and end up hurting themselves by getting angry and making sweeping statements they can't take back. Like when Steve Jobs got angry and committed to never having flash, and forever people like me who need flash can't buy an iPad.

I haven't seen a single review, just a few hands-on impressions in a controlled environment. I want something that validates the 10 hour battery life and that tells me if the OS is buggy, etc.
I consider it a shady release for the reasons already covered in this thread. The $800 price tag is high, but reasonable, until you consider that it's a $200 premium for 3g/4g, you have to activate data to unlock wifi, and they'll charge you an activation fee of $35 any time you turn on the data. That last part is the biggest kick in the nuts. Motorola, Verizon, and the retailers are all trying to get their cut of the device and the consumers are the ones being punished.

Agreed. The last part is indeed a true roshambo kick in the nards. I am quite cross about that particular detail as it sort of defeats the purpose of month to month, and makes no sense given my admittedly limited knowledge of how CDMA works. AFAIK all that should be necessary is an OTA provisioning of the tablet when you want to enable service. Something I do on a regular basis for my dad who goes through a new phone every 6 months. He buys crappy flip phones on ebay for 20$ and I activate them using a combination of the Verizon website and a # code on the phone. Easy Peasy, no cost. This makes it clear that they are trying to get you to just keep a minimal data plan month to month, because without a gap of 2 months or more, you will be paying more in the grand scheme if you pay an activation fee each time you lapse. It's almost like a late fee.

It's up the the manufacturer to release the reviewers from the NDA and let them post reviews. The sheer number of developers that have the Xoom is proof that reviewers have had them for a while. Usually reviews don't come out until the device is actually for sale.

There have been Atrix reviews out for a while, but so far, it's been mum on the Xoom. It doesn't make much sense to me either.
That said, I think "shady" is the wrong word. I would use "bizarre". Everything about this has been bizarre, and the fact that nobody even knows when the thing is being released just flabbergasts me. Most launches include things like, you know, release dates, prices, venues, etc.... Right now, the only thing we know for certain is that it will be available at Best Buy in late February for $800, and we haven't known that stuff for very long.
However much I dislike Apple, Steve Jobs would never have let something like this happen... unless we're talking about the mythical white iPhone 4.

It's just an amazing failure of a launch. It boggles my mind that they can come off of their "Best of CES" performance and get nothing but bad press thereafter. How can they not effectively communicate the price and release dates across media and retailers? Even after Sanjay Jha confirmed the price, the price still isn't listed on the official Xoom website! So much potential wasted. I'm an Apple hater, but nobody can deny that they know how to run a product launch and these other companies need to take notes every June.

I am sure they are aware of what is going on with their competition. They already have a UK WiFi only model about to be released and there were even leaked ads with pre-order info. They also already announced a WiFi only for US around $600 coming. We all want things now. I waited over a year to get a Honeycomb tablet and it was worth the wait. Google should have anticipated this earlier and had this out last year. I think their mistake was spending too much time and resources on ChromeOS which I have zero interest in. But here we are, the beginning of an exciting year of Android tablets and Honeycomb.

The UK announcement is 499 pounds (aka 800 USD)..so thats useless
and ya we heard theres a US one around 600, but NOTHING official or no report from them, just saying, if ur gonna release a tablet ONLY to verizon for 800$..and google wants to get Gingerbread out there, why the hell not make it available to everyone.

I am sure we will have a wifi only version of the Xoom next month. But what we really need is for some of these other companies to get their stuff out as well so their are more choices and competition. It seems like Google decided to give Motorola all the love for the first honeycomb tablet which is why we are not seeing any others release now. This may have been to fine tune the OS before making it more widely available to others, I don't know for sure. But the bottom line is, Honeycomb tablets are not going away and I suspect we will see so many by the end of the year it will be difficult to decide which to buy.

Don't take too much profit, break even is OK, even lost!
Just take a lot of users whatever the cost is!

About loosing money, if I remember correctly, Microsoft did not make any profit on the earlier Xbox/360. And they are now very competitive.
PRICE IS EVERYTHING for this LEVEL of device. Remember, PRICE is the key for users to buy tablet.
With less money, people can buy iPad 2 which is more or less the same "experience" to use AND has tons of very good quality of apps.
Set aside that SD Card slot (iPad has 64GB model) and OS customization. Those are nice, but for majority they are less important. They dont stare for hours in the home screen!
Come on Google, you can do it.

Moto CEO has said that wifi-only Xoom will be around $600. That's pretty reliable, but by no means cast in stone. Another pricing signal is the the UK pre-order peep, which was for £500, or close to $600 US once the 20% VAT is removed.
That said, iPad2 is the undisputed tablet leader, and with the Xoom's dearth of software support (and missing features, like SD slot and Flash), having a price higher than the base iPad price is a death knell, especially with other cheaper Honeycomb alternatives on tap.
Come April, I'd expect the wifi Xoom to be toeing the $500 price point, as will many of the so-called premium vendors (HTC, Samsung, et al). Other vendors like Acer & Dell, who don't have smartphone offerings to protect their pricing, will be cheaper, and with the same specs.

Sorry to correct you, but you can't just do a straight conversion in price from GBP to USD and call it a day. There is a VAT etc. in the UK and the prices are inflated. Take about 20%-25% off the price and you'll be more in the ballpark of what the US will pay for the WiFi version. $600USD sounds about right, $200 less than the 3G version. I would not be surprised at all (well, maybe a little) if the WiFi version also coincides with a 3G/4G price drop.
I agree with what you're saying and I don't think you're alone. Motorola will notice (or has noticed already) that they're gonna get slaughtered if they don't have a WiFi version, and dont lower the prices to be AT LEAST competitive, if not undercutting, the competition. And they gotta do it like yesterday.
I want to be positive and say that Motorola know what they're doing, but the way that they launched only the 3G version with no word on the WiFi one is just sad. My theory, which I don't think is any secret, is that Verizon has Motorola by the balls, and is trying to get as much out of the 3G version as possible before the WiFi comes out. They wanna ride the wave and the early adopters and then let the WiFi out. There is no single manufacturing reason why the WiFi model isn't ready right now. Its on their freaking product webpage ffs (along with the GSM variant I might add) lol.

I really hope so, for Motorola's sake. That $499 price point is one that gives you way more exposure than anything. Like I said I think they're trying to ride the "first honeycomb tablet" wave until they get shafted by iPad 2 and the other 3.0 tablets coming out, then they'll play ball and maybe get some decent sales numbers.
I've said before that I'm 100% willing to hand Motorola (or Samsung/LG, for that matter) $600 right now for the WiFi version of this type of tablet, but I'm not gonna overpay for the 3G version I'm not gonna use. The $500 point just has to happen for general consumers to put it next to the iPad though.

The one thing that Apple gets right is they don't late carriers push them around with the iPad. They sell it directly from Apple.com either the WiFi version or 3G with no strings attached and if u wanna activate later you can. No carrier BS. Not to mention that the 3G and WiFi versions go on sale the same exact day lol.
Motorola is getting blown up hard over their pricing and availability of different models/versions. I think they probably would've started selling the WiFi now if it weren't for other pressures/commitments.

Motorola just lost me. I'm returning my xoom and I'll wait for whatever WiFi options come later down the road. I won't buy Apple. Motorola needs to get their [email protected] straight. Too pricey and lack of options will be their demise. Give people what they want.

With the 32GB iPad 2 releasing at $599 Moto has to match or beat that price. You can guarantee they will do that. $550 would be a big win for Moto and the customers.
Even at the lower price and added hardware specs the device still will not even come close to what Apple will see in sales. One thing Apple has done well and continues to do well is advertise. This unfortunately is where Moto is lacking with the Xoom. Superbowl commercial was nice and money well spent. But what have we seen since then? If you stopped 30 random people on the street and asked them what a Motorola Xoom was, maybe 15 of 30 would know. You would be hard pressed to find someone who did not know what an iPad was. Every night when I am watching the tube, I see that damn iPad commercial with the annoying piano in the background. Moto needs to take a risk and pour some funds in to advertisement. They now have a solid piece of hardware to compete with Apple. Let the rest of the world know that and get aggressive with your attack.

Are you going to keep or cancel your 6P pre-order?

I'm sure many were like me, and after the announcement the 6P sounded amazing and you knew that if you didn't order it right away it would likely be sold out for months. Now that some time has past and we've seen some hands on, are you still going to keep your pre-order or cancel and wait for more reviews or a price drop?
I have the G4 currently and I keep going back and forth. If I was in the market for either the 6P would be the clear winner, but the fact that I have to sell my G4 and likely take a ~$200 hit on the swap, it makes me think twice.
I don't mean this to sound rude, but I fear it might come off a bit rude, but this is kind of a dumb question, if you ordered it, you should have only ordered it if you wanted it. Nothing has happened since it was released that makes it any less desirable, so why would people cancel? I saw the announcement live and watched hands on before I ordered, I knew what I was getting when I clicked order.

If you read my post, you'll see that's exactly what I said. During the announcement they talk up all these features to make you really want the device, and then when pre-orders opened up right afterwards you had to make a choice whether to buy it then or potentially wait months if the previous Nexus launches followed the same path this time.
The leaks on this device were more geysers than drips. In other words, everyone already knew everything, and the presentation was just confirmation. Even then, you had nearly an hour (from the time they stopped talking about Nexus) before you could really pre-order, giving everyone plenty of time to think about it first. Emotional impulse-buys were probably very minimal.
Op, not a bad question. I made an educated decision before I pulled the trigger on my pre order. I watched every Hands on video on YouTube, read as much as I could. I knew before hand that there was no wireless charging (metal body?) , no OSI and fast charging is questionable. So I know what I'm getting into and the n6p still sounds compelling!

The features they "talked" up at the presentation seem to be panning out nicely in the hands on reviews. No foreseeable reason to cancel.
I buy and sell phones quite often, I actually am returning the iPhone 6s that I got to see what it was like (it was horrible haha). I was just curious if anyone else was like me where they buy phones on impulse and if any had already cancelled their orders.
Im giving the MS 950XL a chance to win my business, but pretty sure I'll keep the 6P at this point.

I think cancelling a pre-order is very different from buying a phone only to see how it works. The former does not really impact the selling cost and margin manufacturers have to add to recoup that cost. The latter does.
In the specific case of the 6P I don't think a person is "ignorant" for canceling a pre-order. Yes, Google provided quite a bit of information about the 6P. But, since release there have been legitimate questions about the quality of the panel, the quality of the camera, etc. Also, between release and when it starts shipping, other phones have and will come out.
Definitely, the 6P is the way to go for most of the people who've pre-ordered. Great for them. But that does not mean people who end up canceling are demonstrating their ignorance.
i hope all the 64gb graphite users cancel so I get mine sooner

What's your opinion on the 3d touch feature? I haven't been able to find an unbiased opinion on it. Most people over at /r/Apple think it's the greatest thing ever.

I have the G4 currently and I keep going back and forth. If I was in the market for either the 6P would be the clear winner, but the fact that I have to sell my G4 and likely take a ~$200 hit on the swap, it makes me think twice.

I get what you meant when you said that you had to order it right away.
I thought it was going to sell out in like 30 seconds so I said buy now and think about it later. Which I have done now and decided to stick with my decision. So far the initial impressions look good. Waiting for a full review from MHBHD, Android Authority and Pocket now which will probably take another month I'm guessing.

I got it from Amazon with prime so I can keep returning it until I get the N6P

I bought a 6s Plus to give it a trial run, since my Nexus 6 busted and needed a device. I like to float between android and iOS.
The 3D Touch is actually kind of fun. Once it becomes more used in apps by developers, I can see it having a lot of power. It does feel very intuitive and gives a good flow to using the device. I will give it to Apple on the 3D Touch and A9 chip. The "Live Photos" thing is okay, doesn't work as fully advertised. If you have kids or pets you always photograph, then I can see it being useful, but Google introduced their version during the 6p launch with Burst Photos. Hope this helps.

I did the same thing. Buy it now and think more later.
For reasons like my previous bad experience with another Nexus device , including becoming a flashing whore. Thirsty for ROMs and spend way too much time doing non meaningful stuff. Sometimes a little curb on playing toys aint a bad thing
Plus 128GB 6p is quite expensive, after I saw closer my current credit card bill.

3d touch is nothing new.... Android has had this feature for years. The difference is Apple's is hardware based, and Android is software. Most developers don't take advantage of it but it's there...

Just cancelled my 6p 128gb graphite w/ Nexus Protect. The biggest reasons were 6p's band 12 would need T-Mobile's certification, and even if certified band 12 might not give the improvements that I hoped for. I pre-ordered b/c I was afraid that 6p would get sold out. But then I found it hard to justify $800 when my OPO is still plenty fast and a new N6 64gb can be had for $370.
