Poor LG Product Support/Customer Service - G Pad 8.3 General

I figured I would post this as it directly affects our tablets, as well as the LG G2. I had been writing to LG trying to get a response about updates from them. Of course the chimps they have working their email support don't know how to read, nor will they forward.
Does anyone else find their social media attempts infuriating especially since they never speak about their products or support for them? They post garbage like "+1 if you ever text your ex", "+1 if you've lost your phone before" or other wasteful messages. Why devote time to that?
I think more of us need to push LG to properly support their products and offer updates/news about when to expect them. Anyone else pressuring them and getting nowhere?

Good afternoon,
I am contemplating ordering a LG G Pad 8.3 tablet which is due November 3rd at my local Best Buy USA. I note you have announced said tablet and that it runs on Android 4.2.2.
Given Android 4.3 is already out, and 4.4 is announced (Kit Kat) I wanted to confirm your intentions to update this tablet to the latest Android 4.4, Kit Kat.
Can you kindly confirm it will be updated (and preferably make an announcement to appease other customers)? Given LG's history on phones and tablets I am reluctant to pay for this new tablet without confirmation it will be supported with new software as tablets by Sony and Samsung etc are.
Your response would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.
We cannot confirm that the tablet will be updated to the latest Android version, most likely it will be, but I wouldn't able to tell you when. I do apologize for the inconvenience.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again either via live chat, email, or by calling our customer service division at 800-243-0000 at your convenience.

Good afternoon,
Can you please forward my formal complaint to the appropriate department for a response. I would like to complain about the constant SILLY and IRRELEVANT postings your company makes on Google Plus. They are a waste of time and only agitate your customers. You don't even interact or review comments evidently, as all of the comments on every post is about your piss poor support for your products.
As a customer who (perhaps stupidly) bought your tablet, and is considering a G2 (not anymore), I would ask for a more appropriate approach to updates. Every other manufacturer supports their products and releases updates, but it seems you guys are cruising and enjoying your Google hardware sales, and neglecting your brand name.
Do you care about customers? Just remember who pays your salaries.
Thank you for contacting LG Electronics,
We are more than happy to assist you. I apologize for any inconvenience that you are having . We appreciate you for taking the time to communicate to us why our Cell phone did not meet your expectations.
LG Electronics constantly strives for ways to improve overall customer experiences. It is only through communicating with our customers, such as yourself, that we can offer innovative, high-quality products with the excellent customer service you deserve. With that reason, we are very grateful for your feedback.
It has been a pleasure assisting you today. At the bottom, you will be able to see a survey and score your experience with me. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us again via Email, Live Chat or by calling 800-793-8896. Thank you very much for your kindness and patience. Please enjoy the rest of your day and I wish you the best!
Respectfully,

I have emailed Wayne Park to have the concerns about updates for the Gpad and G2, so hopefully a reasonable response will be forthcoming. I have also directed them to this posting as well as their social media (ie Google Plus) where users are either trash talking LG, or posting begging for updates. Has anyone else heard anything or tried contacting LG for update information without success?

Respons! Lucky you
Hi!
At least you got a respons. In Denmark LG do not offer support... only a noisy answer machine, no one ever picks up. The connection get disconnected after 3-5 min.
Lucky for me, I'm still happy about my G Pad, but I really want a better software/rom. So much default good has been kept out. Anyone know a working custom rom?
Thanks

I wouldn't worry about LG. Pretty soon Google is going to buy South Korea, saw it off from the peninsula, float it out to sea, and anchor it off Marin County on giant Android shaped pontoons.

Thank you, thank you very much....I'll be here all week..don't forget to tip your server.

You got the response from LG and still saying "poor"?
I bought the Surface tablet which running Windows 8.1, I called Microsoft and demand them to release Windows 8.2 and pressed them to support this device when they release Windows 9 in the future and they didn't even respond.
I called Apple and told them that i would buy their iPad Air if and only if they would tell me when they gonna push iOS 8 onto this device, otherwise I wouldn't buy it.
Are Android users too spoil?
I've seen too many xda members saying "I'm not gonna buy it since poor support, late update, ......." So many excuses.
Just don't buy it.

You actually sent them an email saying “remember who pays your salaries"? Wow

I don't feel it is unreasonable to hold them to the same standards other manufactures are providing.
I also feel that if they can find time to post useless things all day on social media they can invest time in product updates for the people who pay for their products.

Hi!
Not yet. Bilka might get it in the store next year, but for now no... I took the chance, and even through the software would be better of with some Samsung adjustments, I really like it. Long battery time, great size, fast and the Knock on feature is used daily.

Maybe I should just order it.

This tab is just fine, even with android 4.2.2. They should to fine tune it a bit more instead of get claiming android system updates.
I own a S4 and to tell you the true 4.3 don´t brings much over 4.2, and somehow battery is draining faster in 4.3 as in 4.2. Same happened with my N7 from 4.2 to 4.3.
I know it´s legit to claim updates, but better LG take time and bring stable updates as the tab know is. LG software and the tab itself are awesomwe.

I have a S4 as well, and it's able to run for 2 days +, if I don't use is all the time. I think the 4.3 update gave more speed, fixed some bugs and gave better battery.
The LG G Pad is great. But I miss many features from Samsung. I hope a 4.4 will come in Q1 2014, it could be great, if they focused on optimization and everyday features. 4.4 is self should be a lot faster than 4.3.

As the saying goes, vote with your wallet. That'll get their attention quick or they just quit this segment of the business...

I never managed 4+ h screen time on s4, with s3 you get more then 5 hours screen time. Two days you can manage with no use or soft usage. Its known in many devices that 4.3 heats more juice then 4.2. I saw it first on n7 then on s4. And now on s3 too. Faster ok but more juice.
What you miss from samsung? Knox? Warranty bit? Secure bootloaders? Touchwiz full of crap? LG is touchwiz like UI and with less crrp...

Just started this page, like it if you do. I will update tomorrow. I know it wont do much, but it makes me feel better. If anyone wants to help, PM me here or on Facebook.
Why worry about this when you see things progressing? You're wasting your time, watch development and you will be happier than you would be with stock froyo anyway.
I see things progressing because off our devs, not because of verizon or samsung. I'm tired of big business getting away with anything they want. I get your point, but I'm still trying to get answers.

Quite frankly, no one will care about a Facebook page. Even if everyone on XDA with a Fascinate liked it, it still wouldn't be anywhere near an impressive number.
And Verizon/Samsung haven't really 'lied' to us (not counting their lower level reps, but no one should be trusting them anyways), they've never officially promised any sort of release date AFAIK... meaning long as they eventually release it, they'll have kept their promise (things like 'soon' are totally subjective, which is why they say them).
Verizon/Samsung have, simply put, just given us terrible support. We're low priority for them- we're basically an offbrand (i.e. not a Droid) phone, with a relatively small userbase. We're small fish in a big sea. Taken on top of Verizon & Samsungs already poor support, it really shouldn't be a surprise to us that we're still waiting for Froyo (unfortunately that's a lot easier to realize in retrospect... if I'd realized it back then, I'd have likely gone with the Incredible).
It is so sad that we are considered "not a droid". The one thing that attracted me to my Fascinate was the nice hardware, sweet screen, and the Android OS. I don't know what I would do without the devs around here. It's a shame that we have been swept under the rug by Samsung and VZW.

Agreed, but if we never take any action, the corportations will continue as usual and we will get even less actions. Corporations already run this country. Its not we the people anymore, its whatever corporate america buys in our congress.
Just like it! Is that a lot to ask?
Just vote with your wallet and don't buy samsung phones anymore.
Also, always make it a habite to tell anyone shopping for a phone about how bad samsung is and why they shouldn't buy a samsung phone.
It's amazing how many people are complaining about froyo, yet they get really excited when they hear about the Galaxy S 2 that's coming out soon!!!!

I will NEVER buy another samsung phone, Eff the Galaxy S2. It's too bad, the fascinate has some great qualities, but I refuse to give money to someone who doesn't care. I was burnt once, not gonna get me again. I'm debating if I leave Verizon, quite honestly.
I completely agree with you about voting with your wallet!
I will always argue that you should make your decisions based on the hardware. Not the software, not the manufacturer, not the carrier. Hardware will always win out, and Samsung makes great hardware.

I used to say the same thing, based upon past experience with numerous WinMo phones.
I no longer agree. Not in the least. I had a Samsung WinMo, but my last two WinMo phones were HTC. Compared to this Samsung.....
a) The Samsung pulls 300ma max from the PC USB port. That is fine. It only pulls 650ma max from a 5 volt adapter. The phone can consume well over 650ma to operate as a car GPS (screen bright, downloading map data, etc). So, the battery can rather quickly die even plugged into a high rate charger in the car. I have never seen an HTC phone do that. If the operating current goes up, the HTC pulls more current from the charger. Usually up to about 1 amp. So if it is plugged into a high rate charger, the HTC phones will never drain the battery even in the worst conditions. Charge rate FAIL.
b) In total darkness, it is too bright. In bright sun, it is too dim. You can go to manual mode, and adjust to a good level, but that misses the point of having the AUTO sensor... Auto brightness adjust FAIL.
c) On my phone, when used for a long while on charge at high brightness (car again), the four bottom buttons appear to be pressed randomly. The phone becomes a worthless brick. According to Verizon, this is fairly normal for the generated heat and there isn't anything I can do but not use it when it is charging. FAIL button sensor sensitivity. (though I believe this is just my phone being defective, and I can't get it fixed)
d) Charge plug. Who designed that piece of garbage. Pretty much every plug I have, and I have a lot of them, had to be cut up in the front side to allow it to fully seat in the Samsung jack. FAIL plug placement.
e) No notification LED. What??? FAIL.
f) Minor items like the mediocre loudspeaker placement, no camera button, and slippery back cover add up to another FAIL IMHO.
I used to think highly of Samsung devices from my past experience. This device has tarnished that image. I would only recommend this phone to someone because I thought they might want to buy this one that I have.
So, I sent an email to verizon, and this is what I got....
Good afternoon Mr. ****,
Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless through our website. My name is Nicholas and resolving your issue is my top priority. I sincerely apologize that you are dissatisfied with the new froyo software update not being available for the Samsung Fascinate. I can recognize the importance in having the newest, most sophisticated software when purchasing new equipment. Despite all, I'm eager to assist with all of your concerns today.
Mr. *****, I can understand your urgency in regards to this matter. However, before new software is released, it must be approved by the manufacturer ( Samsung ) and Verizon Wireless. Therefore, based on this process I'm unable to provide a definitive answer as to when the froyo software update will be available for the Fascinate. This information is not readily available for the public. Nonetheless, if or when it becomes available you will receive a text on the handset prompting you to update your phone.
Additionally, based on your inconvenience I've issued a $ 50.00 courtesy credit on the account. The total credit amount of ( $ 50.00) , will appear on your next billing statement, ( Apr. 26, 2011 ), and will include an additional adjustment for taxes if applicable. You can check your revised balance immediately by dialing from you wireless device, # BAL and the SEND button. You will be connected with an automated system which will relay your account balance as a free text message to your wireless phone. You may also continue to listen and follow the voice prompts to receive the information airtime-free. You will be provided with the amount and date of your most recent payment, as well as your current balance due.
Lastly, I am also pleased to offer you the option of obtaining a new device with the software update currently, if it doesn't become available for the Fascinate. This offer will not extend your contract nor upgrade date. If you wish to take advantage of this option, you may contact me directly at ( 803 ) 231 - 1825 / Mon - Fri / 2:30pm. - 11:00pm. For your added convenience, below I've listed a link that includes our available device line - up. I hope you find this information to be beneficial:
So it does pay to continue to fight the good fight! I suggest you ALL email verizon and let them know your unhappy!!!
My old Samsung dumb-phone was wonderful. I took crap care of it, and it took a beating (I'd frequently toss it), I'd never give a single concern for maintaining the battery, it got great signal pretty much everywhere (when I went to the woods with a bunch of people, the people on AT&T would have a paper weight, the other people on Verizon would have occasional signal, and I'd have consistent, albeit poor, signal), and I'd easily go a week on a charge.
Occasionally I'd get hit by a software bug, like once ever several months, but over the several years I had the phone (5+ I think?), those were quite few in number.
My Fascinate, on the other hand, other than the screen the hardware seems moderate at best. The processor/GPU don't matter a lot long as they're at least as good as what 'most people' have, since generally programs are designed to be used on the more common phones. Now the GPU could have been leveraged on Gingerbread, but, we don't really have Gingerbread, although people like PK are working on it.
There's also 'only' 384 MBs of usable RAM in the phone, meaning less apps can be kept asleep in the background, causing apps to have to save their state & be restarted more often (IIRC, all the other Galaxy S phones have 512 usable!).
Then there's the GPS. It was flat out broken when Samsung released this phone, and I still have a horrible GPS- the other day it took ~25 minutes for the GPS to lock (even after downloading AGPS data, and getting the no help that cellular triangulation and wifi location services provides), just in time for us to miss the turn to our destination! (resulting in everyone agreeing that my phone "sucked").
No notification LED... we've had to work around that with 'No LED' and BLN- hardly ideal solutions... more like clever hacks. 802.11N also doesn't support the 5Ghz band, apparently... lovely. The battery life is also nothing to write home about. And there's quite a number of other shortcomings with this phone's hardware.
Is the Fascinate's hardware horrible? No, with the exception of the screen (which is quite good), most of it's around par, some above, some below. But the Fascinate's problem is it's crippled by horrible software! Our Devs will fix that, you say? So how's that CM7 working for you? MIUI? AOSP? Your options, at this point, are either use a hacked up Samsung ROM, or lose various hardware support. Is it because our devs suck? Hell no, they've long since shown they're damn good at what they do- but even so they can only do so much at a time. Take the best hardware in the world, but put **** software on it, and you've got ****. Bad software will ruin any hardware.
Good software on bad hardware, though, can at least make the hardware bearable. Next time, I'm picking my phone based off which actually has a fully custom ROMs ported to it, like MIUI or CyanogenMod- that should be a good indicator of how good the software support should be- then I'll go by hardware.
Edit: New post while I was writing... Does "obtaining a new device" mean, "trade in for a phone with Froyo"? If so... that's quite surprising, and it'd be interesting exactly what phones are available for that. Although, at this point, I just feel like taking it until my renewal comes around- all the phones are going to be far superior by then, and, with any luck, this sort of BS will have been reined in by Google.
Im going to call tomorrow and see what that means....but its a start. 50 bucks off my bill is nice!

Why am I still waiting for my fascinate to be updated to froyo? All the other galaxy S phones have received it, Samsung has given you the code, now I am curious as to why we still don't have it. I was told when I purchased the phone that it would be 'soon'. I did a lot of research and am tired of being lied to by your company. Your contract states that I can't lie to you, but your are not held responsible for what an agent tells me. WTF is that?? You will probably loose my business when my contract is up, and maybe even before if I can sell this phone. Why won't you take care of your existing customers? Too busy trying to sell 4G when its not even in my area. I was told 'soon' about that too! I understand that the email I will get will say Im sorry for the delay, but we are working hard at it....BLAH BLAH BLAH!!!!

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. While it's very true that our devs are to be applauded for their efforts, the very reason that we have working Froyo roms like SuperClean (aside from jt's AOSP, which still is lacking a few features) is because of leaked builds from Samsung/Verizon. Our devs did not make those, only released them and cleaned them up a bit. We have three leaked builds total now, so there is no longer any basis upon which to claim that the official update will not be released. They would not be putting that much work into builds for this phone if they did not intend to release it once it's complete. Also, I think we should be grateful that they are taking the time to properly fix issues like GPS, which the new radio does, instead of rushing a new release with more bugs.
I too am disappointed at the time it's taking for them to get this release out, but it is clearly coming, and soon, if the last leak is any evidence at all, so I think we all just need to remain patient for a little bit longer. However, I do have one question. We have had working Froyo roms here for quite some time now. If you're posting here on XDA, I can only assume you're interested in modifying your phone, as opposed to leaving it stock, since that is, after all, what XDA is all about. If that is true, why are you still complaining about the lack of official release? Just install SuperClean or your rom of choice and move on.

Goodbye Moto, you suck & I hope we never meet again

I took delivery of my UK Xoom 3G on 2 May 2011 and fell in love with it. I knew it had bugs but I still loved it because love is blind.
I knew updates would come....I had a Google Experience Device so I just knew I wouldn't be left with a crippled device, so I kept on loving it.
Then 3.1 was released in the US. EXCELLENT I thought, in a couple of weeks we in the UK would also be shown some love by the mighty Motorola. It never came.
Other devices came late to the party and were given these mysterious software updates, my friends mocked me and my wife pleaded with me to get an iPad which would show me the same amount of love as I would give it, but I kept faith...I loved my Xoom you see.
Its now June 19th and Motorola have abandoned me, they refuse to talk to me and refuse to love me back, my poor beautifully built Xoom sits there happily force closing at every opportunity and I sit here pondering how my investment so full of promise has become a mere missed opportunity. How sad....Some relationships aren't meant to be and I for one will now be looking for a divorce. Bye Moto, I hope you can live with yourself

I have a bit the same feelings like you...! I like my xoom really, but it piss me off that the NEW update policy of google only works in US well! Thats unfair, and this is one point why i would go to apple! Yes i have a lot of rules and things what i CANT do but i get allways software updates, for the next 2years / generations. And everyone gets the updates at the same time...!
And to Moto, Motorola should push google to deliver more update or make it like samsung to update apps over the market!!
For me at the moment, it was my first Moto device and the last one, maybee the last android...
I hoped you signed the petition floating around in here!!
Hay can you send it too me I would love to have a second Xoom. I see your selling it, oh well. Sounded like you should throw it in the garbage as bad as it is.
Edit:
My device works perfect I rarely if ever get FCs. My ***** is LTE. I understand that I am one of the very, very few whos device works perfectly. I don't know maybe its the user.

You're also in the US. Where we got the 3.1 update. So ours is working better than theirs.

Yes mate spot on its me the user who is at fault, I also take responsibility for the unfinished OS Google allowed to be released and the lack of any updates outside of the US ruining my experience with this device! All my fault

I knew you were going to take it that way because that's how people think. I was referring to me overclocking, unlocking and rooting. Having a device that I can play with and not one locked down. Thats what I mean by the user.
Let me ask you this:
Do you have an Android phone?
Let me also add this:
If you would have said that you were going to a Transformer or a HTC View then I would have thought it was the device. Instead you said a iPad which means its the operating system and using the device that you don't like. Maybe your Xoom is defective. Did you try getting it replaced?

Yes I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and its amazing. I also had a Dell Streak 5 and a Galaxy Tab (original) so am very used to the Android OS. I did not say I was getting an Ipad, I said my missus wants me to get one because she feels its the best available 10" finished tablet solution at the moment....
I have considered the Asus Transformer but I need 3G and a 3G version is not available yet. The Galaxy 10.1 is also not yet available in the UK. I do not feel confident rooting and installing custom ROM's and to be honest I shouldn't have to go down this route to get a working product, especially one which cost me £580

Ya it sucks that other country versions of the Xoom suck so bad that is lame. We don't do apple in our house as a matter of fact we don't even speak of it. Also I did not root to fix problems I root so I can overclock and backup my device. So basically you bring that baby home turn it on and its FC city, wow.
If you like your Xoom so much why havent you done what lots of others have done, Root it and Load the US Version, I have to say though its still not perfect.. There are no good Office apps out there so its far from being capable of being used for business. Facebook App force closes quite regularly, the mail app looks a bit mickey mouse and basic. What I wouldnt give for Thunderbird and Open Office on it!!!..
Non-US Xoom is not Google Experience device, thats what I read in many Xoom forum posts. So, thats why you dont get update directly from Google. I read from Moto forums that it will be updated in couple of months.
Granted, thats not good enough. Couple of months is way too long.

If i'd known on the 2nd May that it's wasn't a GED and updates would be this slow, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. I don't think anyone knew at that point!
People keep telling me to root and flash US ROM, but as well as losing my 3g and voiding my warranty, I'm not sure I want to risk it and why should I?

I'd be tempted to mention your dissatisfaction on the Motorola Facebook page too. Perhaps a little naming and shaming will push them a little harder, other than that, it may give other prospective European customers a little insight into the current support situation?
http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope
hey you guys I just popped in here from the transformer forum, I would think that google is not at fault with OTA updates only the state of 3.1 at the moment. my transformer was on 3.0 when it arrived on the first of June, and an update was available straight away. Ordered in the UK and shipped to spain. Same with my desire HD quickly updated to gingerbread. Its a Moto Thing.
Just glad Asus have gone down the same route as HTC, Great design and features just need the bugs in honeycomb ironing out now.
Just done mine this afternoon. Now on 3.1 with SD card support and 3G. Like you say though, shame I had to void my warranty in order to get a working device....
It really is a shame that moto has gone down this route of misleading its customers. I have owned a few android devices over the past 2 years from different manufacturers ; however the Xoom is my first device from moto and will most definitely be the last one from them.
The only reason that the US Xoom has gotten the 3.1 update (which isn't perfect, but addresses many of the 3.0 glitches) is because its backed by Google (GED)
Many many people outside the US have bought the Xoom fully expecting it to be a GED and rightfully so. Seems that once moto got their money the relationship was promptly ended.
I'm not sure if this applies to you, but over here, the Xoom does NOT come with the Google logo on the back.. this seems to be the indicator as to whether or not its a GE.

Kitkat 4.4 coming to the G Pad 8.3 and G2 - eventually.

So, I had started a thread here about the poor responses and feedback I received by phone and then in writing from LG about updates to their products, specifically the G Pad 8.3, but also the G2. I then decided to escalate it to the President's office which yielded the below response in relation to anticipated updates.
I figure since they are still not the best at communicating their intentions this post will at least serve to show people they do have plans to release 4.4 to the G Pad 8.3 and Kitkat at some point, which is great news especially for those who were on the fence due to the uncertainty of update support. Hopefully they do follow through.
EDIT - new update below re: timeframe. Q2.

Hi,
I pinged our mobile HQ to inquire about your questions. KitKat is scheduled for the Gpad, but “2nd quarter 2014” is the closest I could get them to narrow down. I’ll set a reminder to follow up with them and attempt to get a more clear timetable as we enter 2nd quarter.
Thanks

Hi Sean,
As you pointed out, LG hasn’t been the fastest in providing updates in the past, and we’re trying hard to fix that. We appreciate you sharing your compliments regarding our product and your concern with us about post-purchase software support. I have registered your feedback for review internally by relevant teams and have escalated the matter to our headquarters. Since we’re making progress, I believe you’ll begin to see the results of these efforts.
The G Pad is expected to be updated to KitKat, but unfortunately it does not seem that it will be until 2014. Regarding the G2, it is coming but the final build will also have to be tested and vetted by our carriers so a precise timeline is hard to determine.
I know that this answer likely falls short the clear details & timelines you were looking for, but your feedback has been shared with the right teams to begin making improvements in this aspect of our post-purchase support.
Thanks again for your candid & constructive feedback,

Thanks for your effort. I really hope the "2014" doesn't equate to Q2 or Q3 like I have a feeling it will. This is basically LG's only tablet at the moment and it's WiFi only. What takes them so long?

Hopefully it will be Q1, or at least in line with other brands when they begin to launch it. I wasn't expecting miracles, but it'd at least be nice if they announce intentions such as this officially. I wouldn't expect the updates any faster than Samsung, Sony, HTC etc, so at least they have now told us they plan to do it. Now it's just a matter of them following through.
Hopefully if enough people inquire and push for it they will learn to become more vocal about their intentions. At the very least it'll generate more sales for them.

Well at least they're not like HTC and make false promises. I'd rather them be quiet about it than tell us a date they won't keep. HTC went from September to end of 2013 to Q1 2014 on my DROID DNA update.
Oh no. Last time when I heard this "next year update", the device didn't get any update at all. But it was ZTE, not LG. I trust LG. I like them. I like their hardware and software too. They might be a bit slower than the other's when it comes to updates, but they always update their devices.
But anyway, getting newer and newer updates (defacto Android) is cool and stuff, but actually I'm pretty satisfied with this 4.2.2 too. It's not that smooth as an iPad (I bet even the 5.0 Android won't be that smooth...), but at least it's stable, without major bugs and stuff.
The only thing I'm afraid of is if they won't announce the Nexus 8, making the G Pad dead.

I'm guessing their top priority is the G2 which is of course more complicated b/c of the network radios and different carriers to support. They'll probably finish the G2 first before they even bother with trying to port their Kit Kat-updated rom to the G Pad. Which is kind of stupid, b/c it would probably be easier to start with the G Pad and then move to the G2.
I hope they can keep their words and release a KitKat update for G2 in Q1 2014.

Good to hear it will be getting KitKat at some point, nice bonus
I bought this tablet for its features, even if it didn't get an update i wouldn't be fussed as it is a class device

I have the blue line I took my first back because of it and light bleed my 2nd one has the blue line as well. It really depends on the person some people can't live with it some can. I would not let it stop you from trying this tablet The G Pad is by far the best tablet I have had I love the size and weight the blue line on mine only shows up when watching a movie after about 20 minutes sometimes it shows up you only see it when there is black at the edge of the screen any other colors at the edge of the screen look normal. The line is one pixel thick very thin line. The way I use my tablet it is very rare I see the line to be honest I am not on my tablet for more then 30 minutes at a time unless I am ready on my Kindle app. If I am going to watch a movie I have a 60 inch HD TV for that. I recently was on a train and did watch a movie the line never bothered me it was there but my movie was wider aspect then the screen so I had black bars at the top and bottom of the screen my eyes never looked bast the movie to the top of the screen where the blue line is. You will have to decide for yourself if it bothers you or not.
Yes, looks like it's a "feature" of all the G Pads. But honestly, it's a really really thin line, I gues it's just a 1px. line

I have just returned my G2 (here in Denmark) with massive backlighting issues and and a dim auto light.
Question: wouldn't that be something that i.e. an upgrade to 4.4 could solve by setting/correcting the auto settings in the light sensor or?
About bleeding light, is there a poll where the percentage of units have been added up.. - I could find one on N7 2 .
I have doubts about buying a 2nd unit.. and would like to know have many have received a "perfect" unit - the return proces here is about 10 days..
i've not noticed any blue line anywhere. Where and when does it appear?

A harsh reminder of why I abandoned Samsung years ago...

My wife recently upgraded her phone contract to get the new Galaxy S5, and for a relatively small cost extra, they threw in the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition LTE (SM-P605) which I quickly claimed for myself.
However, it was not long before I was reminded why I abandoned Samsung devices years ago in favour of the Nexus range. The first thing I did when I got home was check for a software update. Nothing at all. Very disappointing for two reasons.
1.) It was still running a 4.3 build from August 2013.
2.) There was no multi-user support; something I was relying on so that my wife and I could share the tablet. This was especially strange considering this feature is available in vanilla 4.3.
So after some searching, I was briefly excited to see that the Kitkat update for the 2014 Edition had landed mere days ago. I began scouring the Internet... Turns out, this update is only for the SM-P600!!! ARGH!
A bit more scouring... Verizon have the tablet on their network right? And they are LTE... And I read something about a Kitkat update for their device! Nooooope! That devices is the SM-P605V.
So here I sit, back in the Samsung camp, completely at the mercy of their erratic update-rollout schedules whilst all of their other tablets EXCEPT mine are enjoying the Kitkat goodness.
God only knows when or if I'll even see a 4.4 update on this device - I'm not holding my breath.
Edit: I'm starting to wonder where I could flash the SM-605V ROM on my device. Seems like the only difference is the LTE band support. I only use Wifi at the moment, so if the worst that can happen is that I lose mobile data, I'd be okay with that.
Yes, that is Samsung for you. It feels very annoying but the feeling is soon forgotten after the update is finally released (at least that's the way it went with the old Note). I am also eagerly waiting for Kitkat for my SM-P605..
As it is now, there really is no alternative for Note 2014 edition if you want an Android tablet with high end specs and also want to draw with the tablet. If Google released a 10 inch Nexus tablet with Wacom pen I would probably buy that instead.

Wait..... so your wife upgraded her phone - and they gave you a Note 10.1 2014 LTE for a small cost.... and now you are having a whinge?
Perhaps you could have gone out and bought a 4.4 loaded KitKat tablet instead?
Yes, you will see KK on the device, in the not too distant future.. Its been released on the Verizon version, so the rest of us are not too far behind. And no, as I understand it, the 605v version rom will not boot on the standard 605 device.
If you needed KK for multi-user, perhaps you should have bought a Nexus 7?
In actual fact, the most recent versions of p605 roms (stock) are from November 2013. What build number is the device reporting?

Thanks for the reply.
The reason I didn't "go out and buy a 4.4 tablet" is because I wasn't actually in the market for a tablet at all, least of all a 7 incher. When we walked into the store, I had no idea I'd be walking out with a tablet; it was an impulse purchase. By getting it alongside my wife's new phone, the tablet basically cost about half of what it would have if I'd bought it cash, so it was a bit of a no-brainer. I made the mistake of ASSUMING that a premium tablet with such impressive hardware specs would have already been updated to Kitkat, and at the very least, include multi-user support. This is the crux of my argument really; when you have been using something like a Nexus for so long, you forget how things lag behind in the world of Samsung.
But lets just put things into perspective for a second... Yes, I am upset that there's no Kitkat ROM yet for this device, when other models (of the SAME device) already have it. It is frustrating. Does that mean I am about to throw it in the bin? Of course not. There's nothing wrong with "having a whinge" about Samsung's policies. I'm certainly not the first to do so. It doesn't mean I think that the tablet is junk, or that I regret buying it. On the contrary, I'm still very impressed and happy with the purchase, and I'm hopeful that Samsung will bring out the Kitkat update sooner rather than later, but the lack of reliable information or time-frames is certainly annoying.
And thank you for the heads-up re. the SM-605V ROM; probably best to scratch that idea.
So you buy your devices solely to update them? I've been using the N10.1-14 since October when it came out and have been quite happy with it. 4.4 introduces some improvements I'm looking forward to but it's not like they're required to make the N10.1-14 work. The only thing in your post that seems like a real requirement for you is multi user. So either put it on a shelf and wait for 4.4 or use it yourself until the update comes. I'm not defending Samsung's update process; it's cumbersome and slow. But it's not like their products are unusable or cow dung simply because updates bring a smattering of new features. And updates to Android aren't always beneficial. Google totally borked external SD card access in 4.4 to the point people are staying on or reverting to 4.3.
You bought a device you had no prior intention of doing so on a whim at a reduced price and are upset because the latest updates are not currently available to you...? 1st world problems are terrible ain't they...
You bought it as it is, it works 100% as intended. You have no legal right and should have no expectations to any sort of updates - stop whinging and worry about real issues in the world instead.
@kempas well said sir. Honestly what is up with people it's just an update it makes it look better and makes it faster and blah blah it doesnt exactly change it into a flying machine.
Sent from Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition via Tapatalk.
As I said, I don't want the KitKat update to "make it look pretty or go faster". I want multi-user accounts which is core functionality that was introduced in Android 4.2. It is not unreasonable to expect that it is available in a premium tablet running Android 4.3.
I'm pretty surprised by the direction this thread took...
It seemed to be a pretty reasonable post with concerns and questions about the ROM, posted here in a ROM community, and the response has pretty much been "Shut up and stop whinging"

I'm not. 4.4 started rolling out 10 days ago. The SM-P600 owners in Colombia, the U.S., and Canada that won the "got it first" lottery are ecstatic. Everyone else is pissed, envious, and impatient. Posting their dissatisfaction here isn't going to get them their update any faster and no one here can help them. Logically, Samsung would roll out a few regions and watch the feedback to make sure there wasn't anything they missed in testing that needed correction before the global roll out began in earnest. From past experience, it can take two months for the majority of Samsung devices to receive an update once it begins rolling out. Does that mean we need to endure two months of "where's my update?" and "Samsung sucks!" threads from the unfortunate at the latter end of the roll out?
This really has nothing to do with Samsung. The updates for LTE models are usually sent to their providers before the wifi only updates are pushed [hence the reason Verizon already has it]. It's up to your LTE provider to issue the update.
Same with Nexus. A Nexus device purchased directly from Google will get an update before one purchased from Sprint or T-Mobile.

I don't know why people are getting on the ops back about it. He's absolutely right. Yeah the device still works but it is annoying that you see Ipads and Nexus devices getting timely updates. The most annoying thing about it all is that I can say as a long time Samsung customer that yes its because of the number of devices but mostly it's because they don't care as much about their customers once they've paid for a device.

You kind of hit the nail on the head. People for whom updates are a critical feature shouldn't buy Samsung products. The sheer scale of the number of devices they offer, types of devices (Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G), and overly complex system of different s/w by region makes them notoriously slow at updates. Knowing that I buy their products anyway because I like the quantity and quality of their unique features; most of which aren't available elsewhere. Am I happy about it? No. Did I expect it? Yes. Do I think *****ing about it is going to help? No. Want fast updates? Buy a Nexus or GPe device. It's that simple.
For the life of me I don't understand people that realize that they made a poor personal choice and then want to tell the world how bad of a decision they made. Is this just a way to get sympathy? I see it as a way to publicize poor decision making skills.

I am not sure if this will help you, op. Please do not flame me if it doesn't, but I came across and thought it would be useful...if you have rooted your device:

Bwah! I've successfully managed to avoid replying to the majority of these idiotic comments, but this is probably the most hilarious case of the pot calling the kettle black that I've ever seen and I just could not resist.
The very first post of yours that I find is one in which you are bemoaning a bad decision you made. Even the title itself describes your regret over the decision.

Seriously, thank you.

On that subject, what did you hope starting this thread would accomplish? And what's the value you see to the XDA community we're all part of?

Touche'
Stop whining and go buy a 10 Nexus tablet with LTE then.
Go ahead.
I'll wait here.

help us [SM-P900] get a firmware update

I've already gave Samsung a piece of my mind on the topic, but one or a few persons isn't going to do it.
here's some facts to know beforehand:
SM-P600: Note 10.1 2014 Edition WIFI-ONLY (much older than Note Pro) received 5.1.1 update for various regions between early December 9th and January 16th
SM-T900: Tab Pro 12.2 WIFI-ONLY (same release date, cheaper product / lower paying customers) also received 5.1.1 updates Dec. 9 - Jan 16th
first, download the Samsung+ app if you don't have it already. go to the Support or Help Section, and start a Video Chat call (yes it works on Wi-Fi only). by default, the camera on your tab is off, if you wish for them to see you, you'll have to manually toggle it on during the call so don't worry about that. the video chat is U.S. based and almost always gets you a fluent English speaking agent capable of an intelligent conversation. the regular phone line is more likely to land you in India or Mexico and no speak ingles thank you for choose Samsung business appreciate come again byebye! or tangle you up in departments that either have no involvement in software support or have no way to pass along your thoughts.
next, proceed to complain either politely or passionately, whichever fits your fancy, about the lack of updates for (give the exact model number SM-P900) our tab.
be prepared, they will try in many ways to tell you there's nothing they can do or redirect the conversation to have you go check for newer software / how to check for newer software so they can get you off the call. we already know what the newest is and how to check. we're not stupid! ROUND TWO, FIGHT!
tell them how (use the model numbers and names) the older/cheaper devices already got 5.1.1 almost half a year ago. they will try to tell you that the carriers or some other entity are responsible for handling updates. WIFI ONLY devices get their updates from Samsung, not a 3rd party. don't let them end the call so easily! they may also try telling you that a 3rd party updated the other tabs. reassure them you're comparing apples-to-apples, Wi-Fi tabs to Wi-Fi tabs.
ROUND THREE! expect to hear something about their update support being designed to end at a time that encourages customers to purchase a new device. every new Wi-Fi tab Samsung has released after the Note Pro (and is planning to release through the end of the year 2016 http://tabletmonkeys.com/new-tablets/) are either 1. budget devices with lesser hardware in one category or another (which are for a different kind of customer), or 2. run different operating systems (windows, also for different kinds of customers), or 3. both
make it known how despicable it is to try and force us to new devices "even if the specs were better, which isn't the case" and that you insist your feedback gets noted and passed on to Relations and all other involved departments.
feel free to share if you have done this, you will have my thanks and that of many others
This won't work. The device is probably going to hit eol soon. But I tried anyway. I did a video call with Samsung support the through the Samsung+ app. The support agent was polite and gave me the same answers and I gave my response.
He also suggested to leave a bad review on the Samsung product page but that won't do anything. I'm pretty sure we are stuck with 5.0.1 or hopefully the developers can port other versions of Android to this device.
working or not, it's one of few avenues we got

We have unofficial Marshmallow builds. This one is works well if you don't care about the camera (which I've always found pointless on a giant tablet): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-cyanogenmod-13-0-android-6-0-1-t3366834

Yes I saw that. However most of the time when I use CM I've always noticed that there are some issues. I might give this a try at some point.

What are the issues that you see? They can't be fixed unless the dev knows it is an issue.
Not particularly with this device but on other devices I've seen random reboots.

You know, I was looking for official updates for our SM-P900. And I came across this. My opinion is that we always have the best option: learn from our mistakes, never do it again and move on. With that said, we all paid good money for that "premium" tablet. And since day one I felt I was going to pay dearly for having to buy another Samsung product. And sure s**t, I did. Which happens to be my last Samsung device. I forced myself to look for other products and was actually pleasantly surprised to find others. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, maybe the market is more mature, maybe I spent my money more wisely.
Note 5 for my wife and this SM-P900 were last Samsung devices we bought so it was a while back. Without realizing it, we went with 2 Sony android TVs when we could have bought Samsung TVs. We bought Rokus for older TVs. I bought a Nexus 6P to replace my Note 3 last year. We bought LG washer and dryer. Also LG fridge. And it feels good to not give them any more money.
And every dog has its day: Note 7.
Don't get me wrong Sterist, I truly admire your enthusiasm. I have been there. I am an IT Director with 20 years of experience so I came across very expensive pieces of hardware for a very long time. But it's good that we start growing a spine and start to really stick to them and mean it. I'm not a fan of anything. I don't discriminate. And today I recommend people to buy what's reliable. Usually Apple. When you have employees who constantly ask you personal questions about what to buy and you don't want to hear they complain weeks later after they bought what you recommended, well, you get smart and recommend whatever is going to help so they don't come back to haunt you.
(deep inside I am pissed like you and others about the SM-P900 and lack of support or for Samsung to just sit around like they always do for the EOL of this device)
Except for maybe security updates, this device doesn't need updating. Updates usually screw something up like the last update that borked the external keyboard until they released another update to fix. It's is still a great product and does everything I want it to do. If you think apple stuff may be better then go ahead and buy their stuff but expect to pay more. Recommending apple products on a samsung tablet forum is not cool.

Not necessarily. There are some more tweaks and updates that this tablet could use. Or at least thats what I think.
I have to say that buying this tablet when I did I though it would at least get upgraded to v6. The device is capable of so much more. I am using the unofficial CM 14.1 and mostly its very good. But as previous people have mentioned there are a few things that don't seem to work. The Microphone is one of them. The screen resolution is awesome using CM14.1!!
The hardware was ahead of the capability of the OS so updates should of been worked on.
It was good value but without the updates the timescale of that value is too short, If I had shelled out a bit more for something else I would have an updated OS which could make better use of the hardware underneath and the value would have applied over a longer period in reality making it cheaper. This experience has change my view on Samsung products. When I can finally put down money for a new tablet, I will be definitively be looking elsewhere for a brand that supports their products for longer.
I recently bought this tablet second hand because I wanted a premium tablet with the S Pen but I wasn't willing to wait/spend on the Tab S3. At the time, I didn't realize how old the Note Pro actually was so I was disappointed to find out that it's stuck on Lollipop (granted, my fault for not researching this first). Like dstote above, I figured Samsung would at least support it until Marshmallow considering the hardware specs. What a shame.
Of course, this then brought me to xda. I immediately flashed Lineage 14 but realized I really wanted TouchWiz back (never thought I'd say that). Next I tried Carbon which is a modified stock ROM. It worked well and was much faster than stock but I lost 5GHz wifi access--presumably because it was intended for the P901. I then settled on the Bussybox build which has been working great. The only issue is the occasional random reboot which I'm hoping gets ironed out in future builds. Here's hoping someone puts together a TouchWiz Nougat build because I'm not holding my breath for Samsung to do it.
In my case I bought the SM-P900 because I travel a lot and wanted something to work on (including sketching/ drawing), watch movies on, keep in touch with family and friends on and something that, being a premium product, Samsung would support.
The hardware is far more capable than the OS and the unfortunate thing is the lack of S Pen support in most of the custom builds. Until this device I'd had a Galaxy S2,3,4 & 5 and a couple of Samsung TV's. I now have an LG phone, 2 LG TV's and LG fridge - Not because they are any better (you've only got to look at their track record with updates) but because they offer better value for money - We also have 2 Motorola and an Oppo phone in the house - All of the samsungs are stuck in a drawer with various flavours of lineage or CM on them as back ups. Apple - not for me - it's too locked down - but at least it's well supported.
Vote with your wallets, it's clearly the only thing Samsung understand.
