Annoying 4.4 Bluetooth Bug - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Bluetooth overall is working much better except for the fact that I can not control my Logitech UE Boombox volume with the nexus hardware volume keys. Or in software for that matter. I never had this issue before, and it appears to be that device only at this point. I have a HMDX Jam Plus that doesnt suffer from the same affliction.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I've found these posts, but no solution...

UE seems to have a firmware update out for the Boom, see if that fixes it for you.

Sorry I can't link you directly, anti-spam policy won't allow new accounts to posts links right away on this forum; I even have to strip your own links out.. lol

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately (for me), I have the UE Boombox, not boom. I do not think it is firmware upgaradable. Hopefully google will fix this small bug though.

3 button remote in-ear headphones with volume control

Hello
I am looking for in-ear headphones which support play/pause, microphone and volume control. Preferably this should be accomplished by 3 buttons: middle button for play/pause and left/right buttons for volume control (just like on iOS).
I do not look for one-button or bluetooth solutions.
As I already searched on xda, I found those headphones:
thelastred said:
Here are a few that all three buttons work on one s
- urbeats (htc version )
- Sony smart headset
- Nocs NS200H-00
- Nokia purity inear ( it say one only Nokia but will work on htc one s)
I tested all of them on htc Sony Nokia lumia and Samsung galaxy phones

However, I do not know if they work with the Nexus 4 or if there are more headphones available.
Could somebody help me out here please?
I gave up looking for headphones with buttons like those because the main reason you have headphones/earbuds is because of the music or podcasts, with an occasionally call here and there...well for me anyways.
And IMO, the one button is good enough which can be found on most headphones. This "universal" button usually just plays, pauses, answers calls, and now a long press will launch google now.
However, you can add an app called Jays headset app or remotecontrol for earphones app. This will enable the number or clicks to determine certain functions like volume control. GL
the 3 button headphones dont work with this phone. It is my understanding that the devices that support the 3 button controllers have a special circuit that is not present on this phone. I have a samsung 3 button and htc 3 button headset that do not work on this phone. I have tried several of the apps that allow you to program the buttons but they did not help.
Just get a nice single button headset and be happy.
Could you recommend a good single button one? My HTC earphones are screwed and I'm looking for new ones for my nexus.

If you are looking for in ear headphones, you cannot go wrong with Kipsche or Shure's with the integrated mics. If you are on a budget, Jays One + for android is an alternative you can look at for decent in ears.
For over ears, there are so many to look at. You can look at any ones that function for "i" devices and they will work for our phones. It's that ONE button or middle button that is the only thing that you are looking for it to work with your phone.

Sigh. Thanks for the information. After no USB on-to-go and a crappy battery life now this. I wonder what will come next.
I guess I will have to look for good one button headphones and an app which supports altering the function of this button. Any recommendations for such an app?
During my time googling on this very issue i came across these:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007IPKBA4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&smid=AEUMIRKFWF0IJ
supposedly made by philips precisely for android. philips says: "Personalise your sound and buttons via the Philips Headset App" so..
however, and if i 'm not mistaken, they 're 1 button headphones - but as another person before me 's said, you apparently can determine what a certain number of clicks will do, so you probably can work around the issue.
i 'm probably getting a pair (not sure if i 'm going with these cause i 'm feeling like investing seeing as i 'm out and about a good chunk of my every day and am always listening to music - being a musician and an audiophile) next month - kinda tight financially atm , so when I do i 'll get back to you guys.
currently stuck w/ the apple headphones (not the earpods). mic works, middle button answers/ends calls and plays/pauses music - volume controls just won't work.
'nyways, hope it helped!

Ah right, JAYS Headset Control, thanks
Does anyone else have a problem getting even a 1-button headset to work? It seems I can't even plug it in properly (sound is mono and without bass), and I tried really hard. I tested both an OEM headset that came with my ZTE Blade and a Sony MH650. Both used to work fine on the Blade but on the N4 - no way. Headsets without microphone (and one line less on the headphone jack) work fine.

I thought I was so smart researching this (in a non nexus 4 specific way) ahead of time, found some a 3 button headset 'made for android' by htc, and alas, only one button works. I have to go out of my way to find an apple compatible 3 button headset to work with my google branded phone? Geez.
But thanks guys for letting me know why this one won't work. :good:

No the three button headsets are far and between. I haven't seen any that work. I mean even my old N1 headsets don't work. Well the middle button works. The iPhone 3 buttons will not work either.
Just use the one button, which I actually prefer and use an app to map button presses to forward or back up. Tedious? I guess so, but I have no issues with one button headphones. I own a slew of them lol.
I can see where I misread those posts now. No 3 buttons work at all. That sucks.
But what about the people that claim that there are headphones that actually work with the three button?

up to the phonemaker..
The support for 3 buttons or not on an Android phone is up to each phonemaker. Samsung Nexus 3 works fine with 3-button headsets for Android, so does the S3, S4, and many more.. while Nexus 4 does not But the Nexus 5 does (!)
I have a Nexus 3 and 4 and I also actually think music sounds better through the Samsung made Nexus but perphaps that is just mental or the sounchip has something to do with it.
3-Button Headset for Android
I use a 3-button headset from Degauss Labs Sweden and it works and sound great (made for Android).

They also have a really well working headset app (works with any headset by the way) that makes buttoncontrol programmable, so you can choose what 2,3 or more clicks will do for U.

Headset question

I've taken a look around for info on why my headset doesn't work properly with my phone but haven't found an explanation. I've seen there are two standards for 3.5mm connectors: CTIA and OMTP. Apple and a bunch of other manufacturers use CTIA and that's what the N4 is. In theory, 'made for iPhone' headsets should work, right?
I have a pair of Urbanears with a single button and that works. The phone always uses its mic and not the headset. Any ideas why this might be?
Thanks!

Yes, if you are talking about the mic, it should work for all CTIA compatible ones. But not so for the other additional buttons such as volume up/down which might be there for the headset.
Did you get an opportunity to try any other headset with nexus 4? For me , with my Galaxy S2 , all the CTIA headsets have worked without any issues. Would be really curious if it doesn't work with N4 , when it arrives.

This has been the case for me on both stock and MCR.
I got some RHA MA450s for Christmas and the microphone works and I can pause with a single click, skip with a double click and if I hold the button down I can use Google Now voice search. The volume buttons don't work though.

I've just tested and the phone using the headset mic.

Well that's weird. Apple earpods work with the Nexus 4, so any headphone that says compatible with iPhone should also work.
I have a pair of Bowers and Wilkins C5's (built for iphone)
The centre button works
The mic works for calls and search.
The volume buttons do not work, but I think we all know this already right ???
I know a lot of people are reporting that their mic on some headphones doesnt work, which is weird.
Thanks for your replies.
This doesn't make much sense to me since I thought that the button controls were passed thru the mic contact so if my buttons work so should my mic. Does anyone think it could be the size of the plug? Maybe because of the shape of the phone the contacts aren't connecting properly?
Off the record,
could someone explain why the volume buttons don't work? Because I never understood this.
Is it a sw or a hw thing?
I use Bang and Olufsen for iPhone and the middle button only works

It shouldn't. SGS1 had tv-out functionality from the 3.5 mm jack due to which Samsung had made some modifications which made it incompatible with other handsets. [ I was using SGS1 before switching to SGS2, but not having the handset now. From what I know, the SGS1 handset wouldn't work with S2 as well ]
So I'm guessing no one else is experiencing the same issue as me? I'm thinking I should try to use one of the set that people have confirmed to be working to see if my socket is faulty.

3.5mm audio socket issue (design or manufacturing defect??)

Calling from all ZUK Z1 owners:fingers-crossed:
I bought a ZUK Z1 (international version) a short 2 week ago, and was excited. Generally, it's as good as a $400 phone I could expect EXCEPT one serious (or not at all, depending on how you want to use smart phone nowaday):
NONE of my 4 pairs of 3.5 mm headphone(/earbuds, with 4-conductor TRRS phone connector ) can be fully inserted into the socket (about 1mm left out), the result? Only inline volume up/pause/mic control of those headphone work, but not the volume down button
Since I can't get hands on another Z1, I am not sure is this just an isolated case of my Z1, or a design or manufacture defect of Z1 ?
Anyone has the same issue as I do??
bump
I've subscribed to the thread and will help you out the moment I get my hands on the Zuk Z1 (posted and waiting arrival from overseas)
May be over a week before I receive it though, but if there's no progress in this thread by then I'll be sure to plug some head phones in and post a reply here. Hopefully there's more responses by then, I'm very curious.
I don't have headphones with 4 conductors, the more I have is 3 and it seems that the socket will just arrive on the fourth black plastic ring with a 4 connectors headphones
Apparently this is the case for mine...:crying::crying::crying:

and also, isn't a major problem. the phone is in your pocket. why don't use your fingers to up/down the volume?

Agreed... whatever we call it, and yes, from an user's perspective, such an issue really is not a major problem at all, as there are solutions/workarounds for it: such as yours, or using the soft slider from the pulldown menu if the hardware buttons on the phone are not functional either.
The purpose of my post is not for finding a solution for my needs, but wanted to verify with other Zuk Z1 owners and see if it's just a rare case, or it's indeed a born defect of ZUK Z1. The latter could be a big deal for a startup company...or maybe not.

Pretty much accurate. Fyi though, "bug" refers solely to software. Defect, flaw, imperfection etc could be used to describe hardware but "bug" is a software terminology. I could explain how the term came to be but honestly.. Who can be bothered listening to that? Pretty sure you lost interest in this message the very moment you realised I was correcting you about something you didn't give two sh*ts about :good:

Tried the only cable headset that I have located at my house.
It only can control the volume (by a slide, not by buttons) and is working fine to up/down the volume.
received my zuk z1 international version (from amazon germany) couple days ago. I have beats solo 2 and I cannot change the volume using the inline buttons. I can stop, start, forward the track but no volume control. Not sure if this is specific to Zuk since I just tried on oneplus 2 and it's behaving the same way, although the pin goes all the way down on my Oneplus 2. I guess at this point we need to figure out if this issue is due to the pin not going all the way down or there is something else hampering this functionality.
Hi , my ZUK was previously ZUI with such a system ordered , after a change to the CM and previously ZUI had no problem with volume. Regards.

Thanks for the info. I will try it out on mine when I get a similar headphone set. BTW, would you mind to confirm if the plug of your headset can be inserted all way down into the Z1's audio socket, as it would do on your other phones?
Thank you!
no issues on mine either. but there is low volume bug but i just received an update maybe its fixed now, will let you know.
I've also noticed that my headphone plug doesn't go all the way to the end. Not sure if it's supposed to be like that though.
Also when I have my headphones plugged in and using the phone (basically doing anything with it that uses processor even a little) I can hear some "crackling" sound/noise from my headphones.

Bluetooth Volume uneven and jumpy?

I've had some issues with newer Bluetooth music receivers on my 6p. I've read about many Bluetooth issues but not this. The issue is that when the media volume is changed on the phone, the result is very uneven and jumpy. It can be like volume 1=low, 2=very loud, 3=slightly louder than 1, 4 and 5 continuing while 6 once again is super loud. Also sometimes changing the volume makes it immediately jump back to something else. This is super annoying and dangerous as max volume suddenly is pumped out on the next to lowest.
This happens on newer Bluetooth music receivers, assuming Bluetooth 4.0. Older receivers I've had for years belonging to a lower Bluetooth version is still problem free. This leads me to believe that the problem is related to the link between android media volume and the actual Bluetooth receiver volume.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anything be done about it or is it simply a bug that Google has to fix? Nexus 6p, v6.0.1 stock with some xposed stuff.
Yes. I have that problem. Can't imagine we're the only ones. Am looking for a google complaint page, with no luck.

This must be all 6ps, can't imagine just a few being affected. What I have noticed is that it only regards Bluetooth 4.x enabled devices. Below 4 is OK so it's just the newer stuff that screws up. Strange though you're the first noticing it.

[A2017G] Bottom speaker louder than top speaker

STILL NOT FIXED
I have rooted and unlocked my Axon 7 (A2017G) and edited the mixer_paths.xml file to make the audio output louder.
But there's a little problem (and I don't know if it's because of the mixer paths edit, I don't think so)
My top speaker sounds a lot more dull than my bottom speaker. My bottom speakers seem to be louder too.
How to check this? And are there more people experiencing this?
Thanks in advance.

Some say it's dust, but I don't know how. I haven't called with this phone much.
Bump. It's everywhere. Even on LineageOS, bottom speaker is almost twice as loud :/ It can't be dust.

This problem is getting on my nerves. The bottom speaker is twice as loud and crispy as the top speaker, which sounds dull.
Anyone else had this and possibly fixed it?
Two questions
Did you try to reset your phone and test the speakers again?
Is there the same problem on YouTube and mp3 music files?

1. Yes I switched between roms to test modems and other stuff for ZTE.
2. Ofcourse. It's obviously the same on every output.
I guess it's just a hardware fault, but I thought maybe someone would have fix (clean it or something?)
Then I would say that this is an hardware problem indeed.
Having the same issue here, thought that other ROM will provide the fix but still zilch. Rooting the phone only meant the void of guarantee so not really good move there either.
I read somewhere online that usually bottom speaker is the one to go out first and that global version has the speakers a lot different then American and Chinese version). Any other possible fixes before replacing it? And where to find the replacement too?
Update: it should be software related since the sound in earphones has the same problem - only inverted. Which means there should be a tweak in binary or something?
I'm willing to pay to whoever makes this problem disappear. I'm beyond the point of helplessness here...
Fixed!
Fixed the issue finally! ??
Go to:

- accessibility
- mono speaker output.
For the last trick to work, just try to disable it, then enable it and restart the device. Disable it again when device rebooted. Worked as a charm for me! So I'll be saving me some money ???
