[Q] update from SD card - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I just tried to update my Nexus 10 to 4.4 without much success.
I placed the .zip file in the root of my SD Card and followed the usual steps into recovery mode (Turn Off, Volume Up and Down + Power Button, Recovery Mode, Volume UP and Power Button).
I expected to see a update from SD Card option here but it is not available.
Any ideas where I could have made a mistake?
Cheers

I think you've got the first part right, the second part is that you need to hook your tab up to our PC to run update, see link.
KitKat 4.4 installation

Ah, thanks.
I was under the impression I could install an update from the sdcard without having my device connected to the PC. I guess I got that wrong.

Can't pass HTC welcome screen

Hi, Guys
I was trying to root the phone by using the hack-ace.cmd and when I get into the final step - updating the ROM from SD card...I accidentally pull out the cable and then the screen stays on the welcome HTC logo forever.
I have tried the volume down button + power or home + power or even re-root the phone. It came back HTC logo again. But the screen will change to something else when I trying to re-root the phone. The process acually successful, but it still report errors in the very end saying "USB connection fail" or "Golden Card fail".
Here are the steps I followed,
Steps for this process:
1. Download the Advanced Ace Hack Kit
2. Extract the files
3. Install Desire HD drivers in /tools/windrivers/
4. Connect the device via USB and turn on USB Debugging in Settings-Applications-Development
5. Run the hack-ace.cmd as Administrator and start the process by typing "1" and "Enter"
6. The process will run and will take about 5-6 minutes to complete
7. Download your ROM of choice, do not extract it, and copy the .zip to the device SD card
8. Rename the file to "update.zip"
9. Power off your device
10. To boot in the bootloader, perform a battery pull, reinstate the battery, and hold the volume down and power buttons
11. Using the volume buttons to navigate, and power button to make selections, boot into Recovery, clear the cache, and select 'install update from sdcard'.
12. When the flashing process has completed, reboot your device and wait about 3-4 minutes for it to boot fully
13. You device is now rooted and has a custom ROM installed
I strongly believe, I forgot to power off the device and go straight to the bootloader and pressed the install update.zip from SD card.
Then I also believe that I used a corrupted ROM from a crap website, which is about 75Mb...Not normal, right?
The screen turn into HTC logo and I waited for 2mins and seen no changes, hence I pulled the cable out....
The final result is that I always get the HTC logo even if I tried to install new ROM file downloaded from a valid site.
Now the problem solved. Love your guys

Dude here is the rooted stock ATT ROM it includes the radio. Just download place in root of gold card then go to bootloader with power - volume button. it will recognize the PD98IMG file, will ask to load volume up for yes then let it do its thing. Please search and read before you attempt anything with phone. AS ADVICED ON XDA FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK.

This is the rooted ATT updated ROM with radio do not rename file just place in root of SD (Not in any folder) Good Luck.
Hello, please look at my original post. I have edited and provide more history. Cheers
Hi mate, I am still little bit confused. You said "place in root of gold card" then "do not rename file just place in root of SD"........I am not professional, but I heard the Goldencard before.. Should I just download the PD98IMG.zip then send it to SD card then go to the bootloader see how it goes?

Yes, u need to flash PD98IMG.ZIP to have your device working back. If your phone is branded , it will require gold card which u should create it one for your device to recognize it or u may download the above mentioned zip file to ur pc then copy to ur sd card first, and get the phone into bootloader mode to see If it could recognize in case ur phone is not branded, If it is so, then u can save time for not creating goldcard and progress to flash the rom from as card.
Remember no need to rename the file. Ur responding in this thread is on & off, users here could not help u when u urge to get ur phone working back.

[HELP] Restoring of brick Huawei U8800

Restoring of brick Huawei U8800.
All do at your own risk! I am not responsible for your machines!
Today I was able to magically (just wonderful, because it found the time at which there is a chance to run the update) to recovery from a brick Huawei U8800 (corrupted bootloader + recovery not run + in a pink screen not mounted hard drive + when trying to update the written Update failed! I spoke to a service center, they said the warranty is not the case and we must change the motherboard (the cost of 3-4 million BYR, new at the MTS salon cost 2.9 million BYR )
What and how I did:
1) To restore I'am using the firmware B162 Android.
2) Format the micro SD card that was clean (I was 8 gb, 2 class and be sure to FAT 32) and unpack "dload" folder and ".txt" file(with a strange name) from the downloaded archive to sdcard.
P.S. I say that not all flash drives can operate restore, I have like three went, normally only one.
3) Insert the micro SD into the phone and pull out the battery.
4) Hold down the Volume (+) and power up, hold and connect the phone via cable to your PC, your phone will be switched on and the logo appear, then turned off my phone (missing logo). So, when the logo will disappear (ie the phone will turn off) and immediately hold down the volume (-) the volume (+) and power up.Main that the updating process can start only one time after the logo was gone, if after a few times in a row press both the volume keys and power up, updating does not start, it is necessary to re-clamp the volume (+) and the power up, after the disappearance of the logo, both the volume and the power up of ... I have to go to the upgrade process if you wrote "Update failed!", try again (I went with 2 times).
5) After a successful update, the phone will reboot, on reboot he should loaded the standard blue recovery.
6) Turn off the phone from the computer, insert the battery, hold down the volume (-) the volume (+) and turn on, wait until you get a pink screen, release the button and connect it to your computer. You should see a new device and to define a disk drive with a folder "image". If we define - rejoice!) If not, then you need to install the driver on the internet enough to the driver, as well as the wood in my going to the Android SDK, not sure ...
7) Thus, we can assume the phone repaired) Download recovery 4.0.0.5 and unpack the archive and copy the file "recovery.img" to a folder "image" with the replacement. A man does not 4.0.0.5 recovery loaded, it is strange, but recovery 5.0.2.7 normally loaded
8.) Disconnect the phone from the computer, pull out / insert the battery and try to enter the recovery (volume (+) and power up).
9) If set, then everything is OK and can now be sewing. I still put 2.2 Geno v8.4 + software package from Google, but I recommend again read all instructions on the firmware, to avoid problems!
Good luck, hope that helped someone, he sat on the forums more than one day, but have not found a solution.
If someone has turned out, a sign of gratitude you can throw money on my phone +375297176005 (MTS, Belarus), would be very grateful
P.S.
Instructions is my and it's my first, that do not copy and paste, you can search the Internet. Do not judge strictly, if something is not designed ...
If there are people who helped, I think you can throw his hat in the description. My message is also present in our 4pda.
Hope springs eternal
Sorry for my english, I'm from Belarus and bad know it

Just thought I would mention it, if you connect the pink screen to Ubuntu/Linux, it will most likely mount.
Just tried this recovery method on a bricked U8800. Didn't do anything at all. Must admit that it was bricked in a way that i didn't see anything at all on the screen. Neither did i notice anything in dmesg on a linux machine.

[GUIDE] Upgrade stock 4.0.3 ICS to CyanogenMod 10.2 JB 4.3

I have decided to upgrade my Huawei U8800Pro stock ICS 4.0.3 to CyanogenMod 10.2 JB 4.3.
Quickly I realized that this is easily said than done. Tutorials I have found on the Internet are not good. They lead me to brick my phone twice during this process, so I've decided to share my experience with community. Here are step by step instructions:
Prerequisites:
I didn't bother to write any hyper-links, because they will probably be dead by the time you read this. Instead I wrote name of the files you can search in google.
Root_u8800pro.zip containing unlockbootloader_u8800pro.exe
AndroidHandsetUsbDriver_v1.zip containing DriverSetup.exe
gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
cm-10.2-20130929-U8800pro-VIDEOPLAYBACK.zip (here the ROM thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2409681)
recovery6.0.3.3.img (I recomend non touch version)
HUAWEI_U8800P_Android_2.3_V100R001C00B521_Oversea_Normal_05010TXB.zip, containing dload folder (link)
404029_4.0_BasebandCWM.zip
When you have all those in place, you can start with procedure:
Install USB drivers for your phone. Run DriverSetup.exe
Connect your phone to USB and wait to get detected. Then run unlockbootloader_u8800pro.exe (chose first button and wait).
Optionaly download Root Checker from Google Play to see if your phone was rooted. You can skip this step.
Copy dload folder to root of your SD card
Unplug USB cable and turn phone off
Press Volume up + Volume down + Power on at the same time. Hold them till you see that your phone started with firmware update procedure. Wait for procedure to finish. Now you should have stock GB 2.3 rom on your phone.
Turn off your phone
Press Volume up + Volume down + Power on at the same time, and wait till you see pink screen
Connect USB cable and wait till Windows detect your phone and show you image folder. Go to that folder and backup original recovery.img.
Copy recovery6.0.3.3.img to image folder and rename it to recovery.img
Turn off your phone
Press Volume up + Power on at the same time and hold till you see recovery console
Chose factory reset
Chose clear cache
Chose advanced/clear dalvik cache
Flash 404029_4.0_BasebandCWM.zip
Flash cm-10.2-20130929-U8800pro-VIDEOPLAYBACK.zip
Flash gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Reboot your phone
Wait till setup wizard of CynogenMod apears
If all went well you should have CyanogenMod upp and running on your phone.
I'm not responsible If you brick your phone. I did it twice before I finally succeeded .
How to unbrick u8800pro:
You can always get back to good old Android 2.3 folowing this procedure:
Copy dload folder from HUAWEI_U8800P_Android_2.3_V100R001C00B521_Oversea_ Normal_05010TXB.zip to the root of your SD card
Turn off your phone
Hold down Volume up + Volume down + Power on and let firmware update do it's job
List of useful key combinations:
Assuming your phone is turned off.
Go to pink screen Volume up + Volume down + Power on
Go to recovery console Volume up + Power on

Software Update

Well, there's an update. But the download is stuck, paused. I don't have enough space, it tells me. But the update is 300 some MB and I have more than 500 MB free on internal, as well as many GB of free space on my SD card (formatted as internal).
What gives?
I was able to preform the update on two devices. Both had a few games taking up internal storage, so I had to add an SD card. However, once formatted as internal storage, I did not have any issue.
On one, I used a 2GB SD card, and the other an 8GB.
You can download the latest OTA from the OTA thread and then apply it manually from your SD card in recovery.
Yeah, I got it to download anyway. I have no idea why it decided to work.
In the software update menu, there's an option to update from file. I'm assuming you would use that file?
How do you access the recovery? I tried pressing the power and volume down for 10 seconds but it booted normally. I also tried power + volume up and power + both volume keys, but nothing worked.

You have to...
1) Plug the device into a power source.
2) Hold down both volume buttons (and NOT the power button)
or
adb reboot recovery
Oh. OK, thanks.
Hello XDA,
I know this is ridiculous, but I'm having the same problem with the Google OTA. It's really exasperating because the notification won't go away, and I just can't update. I have plenty of space. For a 10 MB file, anyway.
What should I do?
My Nook will not completely boot it hangs on the nook screen. So I was going to applying the update in hopes of a fix. My current version seems to be 0.0.9 according to the recovery menu. I downloaded the OTA from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-7/help/ota-captured-manufacturer-info-t3527202 I copied it to an sdcard and attempted to apply the update from the sdcard from the recovery menu. I get an error saying "system partition has unexpected contents". Any ideas?
Probably dug the hole deeper I flashed the 1.0.2 boot.img and the recovery.img from fastboot. Still cannot apply the OTA because now it thinks it is already done. Tried to edit the updater script but now it complains about failing key check. It will boot to the nook screen with the 3 dots moving underneath. Any one able to pull a system.img that I could try and flash?

Bricked :(

I think I may have bricked by M3 . Willing to paypal someone for a solution. Am unable to get into fastboot and it hangs at "your device is booting now...." no matter what button combo I press.
Have tried battery drain trick as well.
Have you tried creating a dload folder on your internal storage or sd card? Put the update.app for your model in there and then press power and up and down volume buttons at the same time.
Probably the only solution is to use an older version of ROM even if for Europe or whatever. Put in dload folder. Follow regular directions for that (two files). Get that older version working. Then unlock bootloader, install TWRP, then try upgrade again. I think I had to install TWRP 5 before it could be used for the upgrade to current ROM (EMUI 5).
I'm having the same problem as OP. The dload folder in the sd card method is apparently not an option as volume up + down + power doesn't enter the recovery mode. It either will just hang at "your device is booting now...." or it will flash the red charging symbol.

I have unfortunally exactly same problem.
When trying the button combo to enter recovery have you got the usb cable plugged in to your tablet?
Are you trying a non 5.0 build? Mine did what yours did and won't build with a 5.0 build. Try a 4.1(?) build and it should eventually boot (after a good while).
I have the same symptoms.
How did you solve it?

yes.
If the cable is not connected, the power will not turn on because it is discharged..
Is there a way to solve this problem?
Try connecting it to a PC and use ADB to get into fastboot.

Probably a stupid question but have you tried the button combo to get it into recovery whilst it's connected to the PC? Your PC probably isn't recognising it because it's stuck on device is booting now.
