[Update Guide] For Sony Devices - Xperia SP General

Welcome to the update guide for Xperia SP
Updates are small packages that get installed in your phone by the official product company (in this case Sony) that improve your phones performance and fix some major and some minor bugs.
To get the latest firmware released by Sony you can use 2 methods.
1st method : Simpler method using SUS (Sony UpdateService)
Software you will need :
Sony Update Service (by Sony) (You can get it here : http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Hardware requirements :
Phone with and older or even lastest firmware
Usb to Micro b usb cable (the one included in the packaging of your phone)
Steps
Download and install Sony Update Service from the link given above
Follow the onscreen instructions
Ckeck the agreement box
Press Start
Then Select your device
Press Next
Shut down your phone
Wait about 5 seconds (its says 30 but 5 will be enough)
Connect the phone into the port WHILE holding down the volume down button
Then it should download the update file and flash it on your device
After the instalation is finished you can disconnect the device
Boot the device and enjoy your firmware
WARNING this method (1) will erase your data phone apps , contants etc
2nd method : This uses flashtool more advanced but you will not lose your data by flashing kernel but it wont work for large update (Example : it will work from .245 to .254 but not from 4.2 to 4.4 )
Software you will need :
Flashtool from here : http://www.flashtool.net/download.php
Hardware requirements :
Phone with and older or even lastest firmware
Usb to Micro b usb cable (the one included in the packaging of your phone)
Steps
Download and install Flashtool from the link above
Downllad the necessary tft files to flash to your device for example for Sony Xperia SP we are going to download the .254 version (latest)
Click flash (lightning button)
Sellect flashmode
Press ok
Sellect the location of the firmware (from" Source Folder : ")
Sellect anything you want to exclude from the installation
Then sellect flash
A window will pop up giving you instructions (follow the instructions or continue reading from here)
Power down the phone
Wait a small amount of time
Plug it in while pressing the volume up button
The led bar at the bottom of your device should turn green and flashtool should recognise your phone

[GUIDE] Recover Samsung Device from Bootloop or Back to Stock Rom

I wanna share my knowledge here
Learning from my experience using Samsung's devices, I found similarities in the way of reversing Samsung devices to stock rom.
So this guide should be practice for almost all Samsung devices
Ok, let's get started
First, download all these stuff
1. Samsung USB Driver or go to this Thread (install it)
2. Samsung Kies (install it)
3. Odin v.4xx or Odin v1-3 or go to this Thread (just open when need it)
4. And of course your stock rom
Download from here (choose the right stock rom and the newest depend on your model)
5. Extract the stock rom using winrar/7zip
-you should 3 files PDA_xx.tar.md5, Phone/Modem_xx.tar.md5 and CSC_xx.tar.md5 or more
-If you have just two files, .xxxx.tar.md5 & SS_DL.dll, i'll give it the guide too
Second, Go to download mode
- For device with Menu button : hold power button+menu button+volume down (vol -)
- For device without Menu button : hold power button+volume down (vol -)
For the 3 Files or more
- Go to download mode
- Plug your device to PC/Laptop
- Open Odin
- Choose PDA (browse it from your extracted stock rom)
- Choose phone/modem (browse it from your extracted stock rom)
- CSC (browse it from your extracted stock rom)
- If there's more files, just put it on the same box of the files names
- Check list auto reboot and f.reset time(look at the left)
- Click start and wait
- If success, should be writen "PASS" on left side
For 2 files only
- Go to download mode
- Plug your device to PC/Laptop
- Open Odin
- Just choose PDA and browse it the file(forget about SS_DL.dll or XX.dll file)
- Check list auto reboot and f.reset time(look at the left)
- Click start and wait
- If success, should be writen "PASS" on left side
If there's something miss or wrong, please tell me, I'll fix it this ASAP
And Let's helping people
Why USB drivers and then Kies as Kies installs usb drivers .
Plus we already have all this posted in the faqs and guides .
OP, thank you for putting together this guide. However, there are already a few floating around with the same information, so I will close this one to avoid having a bunch of duplicate threads.

[ALL-IN-ONE][HOW-TO][D5803] Bootloader Unlock/Relock/Flash firmware/CWM Recovery/Root

Hello
I have done this on two Xperia Z3 Compact phones this weekend in Bulgaria, bought from local mobile operator. I wanted the latest Sony firmware, so I did the following:
How to install the newest Android 4.4.4 for Sony XPERIA Z3 Compact D5803
CAUTION
There is information, that users who have unlocked the new Xperia Z3 Compact have found that low-light camera performance drops considerably. It turns out to be because of DRM in Sony's image signal processing.
When the bootloader is unlocked, the device loses certain DRM security keys. That means you can't purchase content from Sony's storefronts and a few licensed features won't work, but it apparently also means basic features of the phone are negatively affected. A Sony rep has confirmed that some advanced camera algorithms on the new generation of devices like the Z3 and Z3 Compact are protected by DRM. If you unlock the phone, those features stop working. Apparently that causes photos in low-light to be noisier and poorly balanced.
This isn't the first time Sony's bootloader unlock has come with some major drawbacks—unlocking past devices could actually break camera functionality (this was technically a bug). There have always been a few proprietary features that stop working, but the difference in image quality this time is allegedly noticeable.
Update: Sony has updated the text of the bootloader unlock warning on its website to be clear about the camera impact. It reads, "...the removal of DRM security keys may affect advanced camera functionality. For example, noise reduction algorithms might be removed, and performance when taking photos in low-light conditions might be affected."
Relocking your device bootloader will NOT get back the lost DRM Keys... Once locked, they will be lost forever! More info cant be found HERE
More detailed info and explanations can be found HERE

1. PREPARATION
1) First of all, check your firmware version (if you already have the newest one, you do not need to download it, so skip step 3) and step 4), that are below. Just proceed with step 2) -> 5) from the PREPARATIONS (this) tutorial . Steps in the other tutrials are absolutely needed! Dont skip any of them!)
2) Download and install latest Flashtool from here (Latest Flashtool for Xperia Devices)
3) Download also latest Sony Original Firmware - 23.0.A.2.105 - Android 4.4.4 ( Mega Download ) for Sony XPERIA Z3 Compact
4) Paste the .ftf file downloaded in step 3 in folder „Firmware“ in your Flashtool installation folder. (for example for me is C:/Flashtool/Firmware)
5) Go on Sony Mobile site and download the Sony PC Companion. You must install it, because it installs some important drivers for your device. Since Sony stopped the Update Service application, now all the job is done from PC Companion.
a) After you installed the PC Companion, you must launch it and download the "Support Zone" addons from the main menu.
b) After that you must go in your Flashtool installation folder and find the Drivers folder. Go in it and install the Flashtool drivers for your device.
IMPORTANT
It is important to install Flashmode and Fastboot drivers with the driver for your device! Otherwise it will cause some problems during the flash procedure.
So now we're going into the real part of the things
2. BOOLADER UNLOCK
1) Go on Sony Mobile Developers website, register, enter your device IMEI and it will generate an unlock key for your device. Write it down!!!
1) Start Flashtool application and click on BLU button on the top
2) Turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button
3) Copy the unlock key, that was given to you earlier from Sony Website to Flashtool window and than click unlock button
4) When you are prompted, disconnect your phone and connect the phone again, but this time with holding volume up button when Flashtool shows pop up window
5) Wait the unlock process to finish
6) Disconnect your phone and start it up. If it boots normaly, than all is DONE. Congratulations! You have unlocked your bootloader!
3. BOOTLOADER RELOCK
1) Download and install latest Flashtool from here (Latest Flashtool for Xperia Devices)
2) Start Flashtool and click on BLU button on the top
3) Turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button
4) Just click on relock button and your bootloader is locked again
4. Flash Sony XPERIA Z3 Compact Latest Firmware - 23.0.A.2.105 - Android 4.4.4
1) Ensure yourself that you have the .ftf. that you downloaded in the PREPARATION process into the Firmwares folder of your Flashtool
2) Do not connect the phone to the computer yet. You must first open the Flashtool application, click on flash (the thunder) and choose Flashmode, than choose the firmware that you have downloaded and click ok.
3) Now turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button
4) After few minutes of flashing, all is done!
IMPORTANT
The process is pretty slow! DO NOT DISCONNECT your phone during the proccess! Leave it still and for it to finish the flashing process! When it is DONE, Flashtool will say Disconnect and turn on your device (not a pop-up, just a line at the bottom of the other lines of words)!!!
If the device boots normaly, it should be factory reseted and it will boot slowly. Much slowly than normal.
Congratulations! You have the lates firmware from Sony!
5. Flashing ClockWorkMod Recovery
1) Download the kernel image with integrated CWM Recovery from HERE
2) Save the boot.img to folder of your choice
3) Open Flashtool, click on the Flash (thunder) and choose Fastboot. Choose "Choose file to flash" under the DooMLoRD "side" of the opened window. Then choose the folder, that you have saved the boot.img in and then choose the .img file itself.
4) Follow the instructions. There are two posibilities - the phone will reboot itself and go into Fastboot mode without you touching it OR you must turn-off the phone, hold the volume up key and connect phone to computer.
5) The flashing will finish verry fast. Wait for it and when it is done, disconnect you phone and turn it on. When Sony logo appears, start pressing the volume down button rapidly, until it enter the recovery mode. And you're ready to go!
6. ROOT
IMPORTANT
You must ensure yourself, that you have falshed the kernel boot.img WITH the CWM Recovery!
1) Once you have flashed the kernel boot.img WITH the CWM Recovery download the latest SuperSU update.zip from: HERE
2) Save the downloaded .zip file on sdcard of device
3) Reboot into recovery and choose "Install ZIP from sdcard" and then "Choose ZIP file to install" (moving thru options is vol up / volume down keys; choosing an option is power button)
4) Choose the .zip file that you have downloaded on your sdcard and the installing should begin
5) After a while the installing should be finished you the recovery will bring you into the menu, that was just before the installation begin. You must choose "Go back" and then "Reboot"
6) The recovery will say you, that the root permisions must be fixed befor rebooting - choose ok / accept or fix (don't remeber what was the opiton really...)
7) If all is OK the phone must boot normaly ( the first time it will say "Upgrading Applications") and after that in the applications menu you must have an applicaion, named SuperSU. If you have it - Congratulations! You have rooted you phone successfully!
7. Installing BusyBox
It is highly recommended to install busybox after rooting!
You must just go to andorid play store and download the busybox installer. Once the installer is downloaded start it and choose to install busybox in /system/xbin. After the installation is done, reboot the device and you're done!

Special thanks (and apologize for using their files) to:

nowhere you mention that unlocking loses DRM keys and relocking will not get it back - you really need to include this vital info!

There is a topic that compares pictures with and without an unlocked BL.
The problem is if you unlock your BL and you send your phone back for repairs, chances are very big that they will refuse to repair your device.
Hence being able to re-lock it and regaining the keys is almost a must.
Thanks!! It works a lot!

Well since you unlock your BL through Sonys website they'll know If its been unlocked...regardless If you relock it.
For a guide which details unlocking bootloader, you should probably include backing up TA partition using this tool
Do it after root, before unlocking bootloader. Then if you want DRM stuff back, you can restore the TA backup using the same tool; this automatically relocks the bootloader, then flash a stock kernel (& rom if you need) & it will be in 'factory' condition
Hi, I followed the steps exactly and everything went perfect. However, I downloaded CM nightly and when i try to install it, i get an error msg that says that the nightly zip file is for zc3, while my phone is aries (which i believe is Xiomi MI2). The model number of the phone still says d5803, so I am not sure why its recognized incorrectly.
Any ideas, anyone?
@ThunderBird891 Where did you get the boot.img from under " 2) Save the boot.img to folder of your choice" of flashing cwm ?
Also, the "choose file" option in flashtool isn't there in fastboot mode. There is "select kernel to flash" but it's looking for .sin files and not .img files, am i missing something here ?
I've flashed with cm12, but i'd like a proper recovery and root.

I believe that, by now, you got the answer to this question... Yeah, I don't know why this is happening, you won't have this issue after flashing CM12 / CM12.1 the first time since all the upgrades will be done through Cyanogen Recovery which seems to work ok for updates.
Anyway, you need to remove the first line (pretty long one, so be careful) in the updater-script. You can find the updater script in the CM12/ CM12.1 zip archive, under META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script. If you're running Windows, please, make sure you edit this script using Notepad++, not Notepad.
Hi guys, i have a problem.
I need to prepare my xperia z3 compact to be stock cause i will carry my telephone for repair my glass.
I had tried to relock the bootloader with flashtool but without success.
When i click on "BLU" button, there is the popup, i power off my z3c and then i plug the usb with the volume button down pressed. The pop up with the instructions disappear for 2 seconds and device seems connected.
But after 2 seconds apear another popup:
{

"lightbox_download": "Download",

}
I've tried to plug the usb cable when i press the menu button (power button, yes?) but device remain powered off and no changement on flashtool.
What is wrong?
Another question: after (i hope) bootloader relocked, how can i restore the drm keys and how can i have a full stock device?
Thank you so much and sorry for my bad english sometimes...
EDITED:
Guys, i am so confused, my bad: i have never unlock the bootloader, so for this i can't reblock it...
So sorry guys
Hiya, when I flash using that boot.img, my phone goes into a restart loop and I have to reflash firmware to have it functional again, losing CWM in the process. Is there another .img file I should be using? I've used both this method and the command line, both causing the same issue, so it's got to be this particular image. Or does this image only work with this firmware? I am updating to 5.1.1....26.
No way to relock bootloader on 6.0 at Z3+ Ivy
Hello guys, I tried to go back to stock today. I relocked the BL using flash tool and flashed 23.5.A.1.291 from https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/list-stock-firmwares-d5803-d5833-t2906706. After that the phone stucks in the Blue-wave starting animation.
Any hints how to get this work? I also like to patch the DRM fix. When should I do that?
Edit: Never mind: Just forgot to wipe appslog in Flashtool ^^

You don't need to disassemble your phone.
Just turn it off by holding the yellow button on the back (till you feel 3 vibrations)
I assume you didn't unlock your bootloader.

However, if you did unlock your bootloader before,
you can directly fastboot-flash the TWRP.img and get access to recovery.
Welcome.
And you can hit the thanks button instead of saying it :good:
follow this ...
first download latest flashtool , install all drivers neeeded , and then download DoomLords kernel .elf (sorry cant post link , dont have permission yet)
when you downloaded kernel (in .elf format) download costum rom file ( cynogen, candy, aicp, xenonhd, ressurection remix etc) .zip file (for starters i recomend cynogen)
then press vol up and connect usb , when it connect it in fastboot mode click on lighting icon in left-top corner and select fastboot mod
it will show you pop up window , find option under DoomLords menu "Select Kernel for Flash" and when show you pop up navigate to DoomLords kernel .elf file you downloaded in first step and click OK
it will be done in few seconds and then you can disconnect usb cable from phone......
now use other phone ( or card reader) and transfer .zip costum rom file on sd card , put sd card in phone , press power and when phone turn on click vol up all the time until you get into recovery
now make full wipe (data, chache, dalwik), go on install zip file navigate to sd card and find .zip file (use vol up and down for moving up and down , power is like "enter") ...when you find .zip file install it , wait until installation finish , then reboot phone, wait until boot system first time (need few min)....download mini gapps flash it like ROM file
hope i helped you ..... now i brick my phone couple times per day , but there is always solution for problem, just ask for help , or find it by youself

[Solved] Latest FlashTool not detecting (not showing) FTF files..

I solved the problem by manually let the FlashTool sync the devices databases from Github
1 - Connect to the internet
2- From FlashTool > Devices > Device Sync > Manual Sync
3- after it's done syncing close FlashTool and open it again..
4- it should say loaded ninety something devices (in my case 94)
5- choose flash > flashmode and choose a folder that contains any correct FTF (not corrupted FTF file) whatever the names of the files are..
you should now have your device(s) listed in the Firmwares box with the FTF files after expanding the device name..
if this method doesn't work for you simply install an older version of FlashTool
here is a link of Ver 0.9.18.6 for windows
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24562946973630873
Have a good flashing
thanks........it works

Had the same problem with my Xperia T (LT30P). Just disconnect the battery and hold power and volume up for a few seconds (dunno if it does something, just repeating what i've read somewhere). After that it should connect to your pc just fine so you can flash another kernel and/or ROM.
Please delete this.
firmware detected but it is not able to flash as the drop down is not coming after pressing sony firmware
Click on very left arrow not in content..... Working 100%......click untill the end of the arrow
View attachment flashtool_2020-08-05_05-13-41.logflashtool is not flashing my xperia z3 it just stays in connect your device and says connected with usb debbugin of 2011 devices make sure mtp is off help asap
Didn't work in my case, tried on Flashtool v0.9.34 for windows and linux and v0.9.28 for windows, it refused to read the Xperia SO-02K firmware which I needed to flash for DRM keys backup.
Flashtool v0.9.18.6 and v0.9.15 for windows were both able to read it, but threw "root : this bundle is not valid" and "Cannot open bundle. Flash operation canceled" errors during flashing. I tried four different versions of the firmware and ultimately used newflasher v20 instead.

Lenovo K8 Note (XT1902-3) - Fix Dead/Hard Bricked Phone,Downgrade to Nougat from Oreo

Revive Dead/Hard Bricked/Dead after Flash/LED doesn't light up the phone - K8 Note (XT1902-3)
If you tried to downgrade from Oreo to Nougat and your device is hard-bricked. Don't worry, follow the procedure below...
1. If your device is fully hard bricked and doesn't boot up by pressing the power button, and also the white LED light doesn't light up while u connect the charger/power on the USB to the PC. Try pressing all the 3 buttons, Volume Up+Volume Down+Power Button for about 25-30 seconds and connect your phone through USB to SP Flash Tool (install all drivers before as said in step 3) and see whether it detects your phone (If it detects, go to step 3). If this also didn't work, don't get panic - follow step 2 (Dismantling your device - the only way to recover. But be cautious while doing it, use proper tools).
2. Remove your phone back cover carefully and disconnect the battery connector as shown in the video
. Use proper tools and a screwdriver. Connect the charger and see now, the LED light will blink surely (If it doesn't blink now also, then it's a hardware problem, you should go to the service centre only).
3. If the LED light blinks properly, then go to SP Flash Tool (download the latest version here - https://androidmtk.com/smart-phone-flash-tool), and in Options->Option go to Download and check USB Checksum and Storage Checksum. Then choose the option Download Only in the drop-down list. (Dont Forget to install all Drivers before - MTK Drivers and Lenovo USB Driver, links below)
MTK (USB DA COM,Preloader USB VCOM,USB Port,USB VCOM) Drivers : https://spflashtool.com/download/Driver_Auto_Installer_v1.1236.00.zip
Lenovo USB Driver : https://lenovousbdriver.com/download/lenovo-driver-v1-1-33
(CAUTION : Don't select Format all+Download because if you mistakenly chose Format All+Download option it will delete all your IMEI no, Device Serial no, WIFI MAC address, and Bluetooth Address. But don't worry you can retrieve it through this method : https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-12328.html or
. Make sure you know all your IMEI no, and device serial no {You can get that from your device box, there will be a label in it}.
4. In the Scatter-Loading file click Choose and load MT6797_Android_scatter.txt under the extracted Oreo Rom (whichever version you prefer)

Wait for some time until it loads........
5. Now click on Download Button. Then switch off your phone and keep pressing the Volume UP button while connecting your phone to the PC through USB.
6. Now your phone will be flashed successfully and you will get a message Download OK. Close that and remove your USB and Power On your phone. Your phone will boot in Oreo, and you have unbricked your phone!!! Enjoy!!!
Downgrade to Nougat from Oreo - K8 Note
1. First Unlock your bootloader through the following steps:
(Before this take a backup of all your files, apps, and data because it will factory reset your mobile)
{Unroot your phone if you're rooted, also Uninstall any modules or Xposed or rooted apps if installed}
i) Go to Settings->About Phone and Tap on Build number for about 7 times, this will enable the Developer Options. Now go to Settings->Developer Options, switch ON it, and enable OEM unlocking & USB debugging.
ii) Next, Go to Fastboot mode manually. Switch off your phone. Press Volume UP+Power Button at the same time. While the phone vibrates release the power key and hold the Volume up button. You will see three options. Select fastboot option using the Volume UP key (for scrolling) and select it using Volume Down Key (for selecting).
iii) Extract minimal_adb_fastboot zip file on your PC -> https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=457095661767103465, and press Shift+Right Click inside the extracted folder and give open the command window here. Then Connect the mobile to your PC using a USB.
iv) Then type : fastboot oem unlock {Note: This will wipe all your phone data & make it as new, so take a backup of all before doing it} (Then press the Volume Up key in your mobile after it prompts)
vi) Type : fastboot reboot (It will boot up your phone normally)
vii) That's it now you have unlocked your bootloader successfully
2. Download Nougat Rom : (whichever version you prefer)

3. Extract the downloaded zip file and Go to Fastboot mode manually as mentioned before. (Switch off, Press Volume UP+Power button at same time. Release Power button while phone vibrates. Then Choose Fastboot option using Volume Up Key and select it using Volume Down Key)
4. Connect the USB Cable from phone to PC and Double click the flashall.bat file inside the downloaded zip. {Rename flashall.txt in the attachment to flashall.bat, if you didn't find it from the downloaded zip}. This will flash the Nougat Rom fully on your device. Sit Back for some time, and relax.
5. It will boot automatically and go to Nougat Rom. If you got some error on it or force stop apps or bootloop don't worry.
Switch off your phone by long pressing power key
6. Go to Recovery Mode manually (Switch off, Press Volume UP+Power button at same time. Release Power button while phone vibrates. Then Choose Recovery option using Volume Up Key and select it using Volume Down Key. Now you will get a Android dead kinda symbol. Press Volume UP + Volume Down +Power button, you will see Recovery Mode). Choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset and Yes--delete all user data. See this video if you have doubts how to factory reset using recovery mode :
7. Then select Restart System now in Recovery Mode (Volume Up and Volume Down to Select between options and Power Button to OK). Viola...!!! Your system will reboot and your'e on Nougat Rom...!!!
{Note : After downgraded to Nougat, you won't get OTA update to Oreo. But you can get all the OTA updates of Nougat. Main thing: Don't use "fastboot oem lock" in downgraded Nougat Rom it may brick your device. Because while you lock the oem in downgraded version, the system updates will look for Oreo Rom so it wont boot as you already downgraded. If it's bricked try flashing Oreo Stock Rom using spflash tool. So try keep the "device unlocked. Orange Status......" text that comes while you boot up, always in downgraded Nougat Rom}
Follow the procedure correctly so you can retrieve your K8 Note, don't blame me if you totally damaged/bricked your device.
Hit Like and Press Thanks...!!!!
If you have any doubts you can mail me at [email protected]

If u have installed twrp in oreo get rid of that and go for stock oreo recovery, if u have rooted already on oreo means unroot your mob, uninstall xposed/magisk manager if it's there. Then start the process with unlocked bootloader, go to fastboot mode and run flashall.bat inside the Stock Nougat Rom zip. After the process finished successfully the device will boot automatically. You may get some errors or not, no probs about it, go to recovery mode manually and factory reset your mobile. Restart the mob. This will surely work. Go for it...
Anyways, I feel good that you retrieved your phone back through Oreo Rom. :good:
