gallery bloat - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi if anyone can help me... Basically my gallery on stock no root s4 running 4.3 it showing a gallery data of 56G + that can't be right. Is there anyway to decrease it as its swallowing up all my memory. I have all my photos and vids on my memory card so no idea why its so large considering my stock mem is 16GB and the members card is 64GB I'll attach screen shot if poss.

You could try the below app to try and get an idea of what's taking up all the space, I find it a great visual help. Sometimes it can be a thumbnail folder that's hogging it.

Internal Storage

Hey i was wonder can you like take apart the fascinate and change the internal storage? is it a second sd card inside of it? and if so how would you go about making the files work on another ? clockwork?
It would probably be embedded on to the board itself.

I would say firmly that, no, you cannot replace/increase the internal memory on the Fascinate.

Whether it has, or hasn't been taken apart by anyone, it's not a common practice to have removable/replaceable memory with these types of devices.
I consider myself a poweruser and have no real need for more internal memory.
You should be ok. You can always App2SD if you're running out of storage space.
well i have the lagfixme.bat until they make something better..by the way does the lag fix make media scan slower or something it takes forever to scan sometimes but anyways. i thought we couldnt app 2 sd until froyo?

No, the media scan is just slow and takes forever in and of itself.
We can't really "app 2 sd" until Froyo.
I'd consider myself a power user as well and I'm only using 214MB of 1.55GB internally. Everything else (music, movies, etc.) I keep on my SD Card, so it isn't too bad.
yea im kind of a messy power user i got files everwhere...but yeah your right...thanks for the input
Once I got all my core appspot that I know ill use on a regular basis I only used about 300 MB of internal memory. Beyond that I use another 100 or so for junk (hypnotoad and the like) I can't imagine anyone needing more than 2 gig during the lifetime of this phone.

Slow Camera file Saving in Galaxy S II

Hi
I recently compared my galaxy s2 with my friends galaxy s2
I noticed that the camera speed is slow in my phone, i.e when i take photo it takes around 2 seconds more to save the pic and come again for a new shot!
Can anyone please throw some light ... what should i do?
Mine is rooted phone and my friend's is stock phone!
Maybe you have anti shake on..
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
No...
switching it off also does not help :-(
It needs to focus first before capturing.. Could you upload a video comparison?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
The internal memore seems to be a little quicker than my memory card, is it possible he is saving to internal memory and you are saving to sd card?
Also it could be your ROM maybe if you are on a custom rom?
i had the same problem, i used to save photos on the device
recently i bought SdCard with Class 10 speed and now i'm saving all my photos and videos on the card.
the speed is crazy! you should try this!
I am saving pics on Internal memory....
Right now i m using 2.3.3 android but with rooted kernel
Try updating to a 2.3.5 rom perhaps ? Mine works flawless, even back with stock 2.3.3

Should i reinstall the Camera APK
Where can i find original camera.apk for galaxy s2
using a class 6 sdcard here, saving in less then 1 sec.
Guess What i Reset the camera settings and clicked... I saw some improvement
Is your internal SD card full? It might be the case that there is lot of data on internal SD hence it takes time to save a new file there.

[Q] Get the most out of your 8GB Nexus 4 - upload images and only keep shrinks

Is there an app for this already out somewhere? i've searched for days and didnt found any.
It should work as following:
Upload Pictures to Dropbox/GDrive/Picasa whatever.. and delete the original images on the phone and only keep small (screen sized) versions of the pictures on the phone, to save space.
also mentioned here: https://www.dropbox.com/votebox/114...keep-a-small-screen-sized-image-on-the-phone-
//EDIT:
Combined it would be perfect, but if anyone knows an app i could manually run after every upload it would be fine for the beginning
(App has to do the following: Simply 1click convert all images on the phone or in the specified folder larger than x*x pixels or MB into smaller versions and then delete the originals (as they are already saved in my dropbox account and there is no need to also keep then on the phone!)

His point is that screen size picture (1280*768 or 1184*768) take less storage space than 8MP pictures (3264*2448).
That's a genuine idea given the context.
Basically, any app capable of batch resizing pictures would do, but it's manual.
Integration of such functionality in Cloud Apps would be great.

I'm not exactly sure what you wana hear, but here's the idea again:
Dropbox upload all my pictures to my dropbox account while loading the phone and connected to wifi.
But it also leaves the exact same files on my phone. So I have every file/image TWICE.
I could just delete the photos on the phone storage after each upload. but then i would have to look it up every single time in my dropbox.
=> There should be an option to replace the picture on the phone with a much smaller one (which is of good enough quality to view it on the phone and send it with whatsapp to friends, but take much less space)
There is the Instant Upload feature in Google+. Have a look at that. I think that should fit your needs and its automatic.

As far as i know it only uploads all my pictures to my google account and that's it!
This is the same, only worse, than dropbox does. Dropbox upload the original files. G+ converts them to 2048x*
but none of them shrink the size of the remaining file on the phone Correct me if i'm wrong.
ye , ill be getting 8gb version so i am interested in this too
i guess we will be left with 6.5 free gb , because of the system.
im planing on leaving 2 gigs on apps , so that leaves us with 4gb on music and pictures. is that enough?
and one more question , is the only diference beetween 8gb and 16gb version just the memory?

Yep.
I assume at least 5,5GB free space on 8GB Nexus 4 and 13 GB free on 16GB (based on my feeling and free space of nexus 7 devices)

thumbnails

i need more storage space so i plan on deleting some stuff and i saw the gallery thumbnails and it is pretty big, can i delete this? i mean is it safe to do so? what will happen if i do?
Yes its safe to delete. The thumbnails are cached images of all your pictures that you see in the gallery. When you delete them, the gallery will have to rebuild them.

You will most likey encounter the "No media storage available" message when opening gallery or camera app. Thats a bug the nexus has, not on my gs3

You could try the app "SD Maid", even we don't have a "real" sdcard and maybe you have no root. It cleans unneeded stuff off your sdcard and it's working great for me

Oxygen 2.1.2 Update For OP X

'We have started pushing out the 2.1.2 update to OnePlus X devices. Again this will be an incremental rollout so please be patient if you don't get it right away. This OTA will include:
UX bug fixes in the Camera app
Improvement to color offset in HDR mode
Bug fixes to System Update to improve OTA stability
System optimizations in low battery state
General bug fixes and performance improvements
Also, we've received feedback that some users have experienced issues with SD storage. Although the improvements are not included in this OTA, please be assured that we are expediting another update to fix those issues so you get a great experience on your new OPX. ''
Nice, but currently I can't use my sd. You would assume that's the number one priority for fixing..

To everyone who is using a 64 GB and above card, pop it in your computer, format it in NTFS and then put it in your phone again. It's still not visible in the storage settings, but file managers like OnePlus's Files and ES File Explorer are able to recognize, read and write on it. Wait for OnePlus to fix the exFAT support and the storage settings bug...
The phone can't directly write on the SD (for example moving apps or else..) for now.
Camera is blurr on 2.1.2
Hi guys,
The first time I started my OPX, it asked for the Oxygen 2.1.2 update and after completing it, when I started the camera for the first time, I always got blurred picture in my rear camera, the front camera seems fine and brilliant. Attached are two files to show my Software version and the blurry camera interface. What should I do now?

Many Many Thnx guys
I was trying the camera only cover, while the back cover was full back covered, now working like a charm.
Cheers and Thnx again...
I formated my Samung EVO 64gb MicroSD card as NTFS on my pc and put it back into the phone. Works fine. Will not show up in "Storage" but will show up in file manager and any other app. Also it didn't take more than a few seconds for the OS to find it this time compared to before.

No, pictures are going to the internal storage. I use the sdcard mainly for music and podcast files, this relieved the internal storage in my usecase enough.
