[Q] Get the most out of your 8GB Nexus 4 - upload images and only keep shrinks - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there an app for this already out somewhere? i've searched for days and didnt found any.
It should work as following:
Upload Pictures to Dropbox/GDrive/Picasa whatever.. and delete the original images on the phone and only keep small (screen sized) versions of the pictures on the phone, to save space.
also mentioned here: https://www.dropbox.com/votebox/114...keep-a-small-screen-sized-image-on-the-phone-
//EDIT:
Combined it would be perfect, but if anyone knows an app i could manually run after every upload it would be fine for the beginning
(App has to do the following: Simply 1click convert all images on the phone or in the specified folder larger than x*x pixels or MB into smaller versions and then delete the originals (as they are already saved in my dropbox account and there is no need to also keep then on the phone!)

His point is that screen size picture (1280*768 or 1184*768) take less storage space than 8MP pictures (3264*2448).
That's a genuine idea given the context.
Basically, any app capable of batch resizing pictures would do, but it's manual.
Integration of such functionality in Cloud Apps would be great.

I'm not exactly sure what you wana hear, but here's the idea again:
Dropbox upload all my pictures to my dropbox account while loading the phone and connected to wifi.
But it also leaves the exact same files on my phone. So I have every file/image TWICE.
I could just delete the photos on the phone storage after each upload. but then i would have to look it up every single time in my dropbox.
=> There should be an option to replace the picture on the phone with a much smaller one (which is of good enough quality to view it on the phone and send it with whatsapp to friends, but take much less space)

There is the Instant Upload feature in Google+. Have a look at that. I think that should fit your needs and its automatic.

As far as i know it only uploads all my pictures to my google account and that's it!
This is the same, only worse, than dropbox does. Dropbox upload the original files. G+ converts them to 2048x*
but none of them shrink the size of the remaining file on the phone Correct me if i'm wrong.

ye , ill be getting 8gb version so i am interested in this too
i guess we will be left with 6.5 free gb , because of the system.
im planing on leaving 2 gigs on apps , so that leaves us with 4gb on music and pictures. is that enough?

and one more question , is the only diference beetween 8gb and 16gb version just the memory?

Yep.
I assume at least 5,5GB free space on 8GB Nexus 4 and 13 GB free on 16GB (based on my feeling and free space of nexus 7 devices)

Internal Storage

Hey i was wonder can you like take apart the fascinate and change the internal storage? is it a second sd card inside of it? and if so how would you go about making the files work on another ? clockwork?
It would probably be embedded on to the board itself.

I would say firmly that, no, you cannot replace/increase the internal memory on the Fascinate.
well i mean has anybody taken apart the phone yet? lol i was hoping that website that takes apart everything would of so i didnt have to be the first lol

Whether it has, or hasn't been taken apart by anyone, it's not a common practice to have removable/replaceable memory with these types of devices.
I consider myself a poweruser and have no real need for more internal memory.
You should be ok. You can always App2SD if you're running out of storage space.
well i have the lagfixme.bat until they make something better..by the way does the lag fix make media scan slower or something it takes forever to scan sometimes but anyways. i thought we couldnt app 2 sd until froyo?

No, the media scan is just slow and takes forever in and of itself.
We can't really "app 2 sd" until Froyo.
I'd consider myself a power user as well and I'm only using 214MB of 1.55GB internally. Everything else (music, movies, etc.) I keep on my SD Card, so it isn't too bad.
yea im kind of a messy power user i got files everwhere...but yeah your right...thanks for the input
Once I got all my core appspot that I know ill use on a regular basis I only used about 300 MB of internal memory. Beyond that I use another 100 or so for junk (hypnotoad and the like) I can't imagine anyone needing more than 2 gig during the lifetime of this phone.

Such crappy apps.

I've been trying to find the perfect app for photos (particularly for my Flickr photostream) and what an abysmal lot of apps they are. The only one that seems like it might be good is FlickFolio but you have to pay to find out if it is. There is no free trial version or light version. I've tried nearly all of the free alternatives including Flickr's ofiicial app and that is terrible (Stuck in portrait mode on the tablet until you open a photo fullscreen and then it suddenly allows landscape mode. Exit fullscreen and it is stuck in portrait mode again). JustPics HD is sorta OK but has an issue where it makes the screen go full brightness when you show a photo fullscreen. Also it only shows sets instead of the photostream.
Don't even get me started on the inbuilt photo viewer. Complete garbage (why do I want to see every image stored in my books folder! Sheesh!).
This seems to be the way with a lot of apps on Android though. They seem to cater for either phone users or tablet users and rarely both. I don't have experience of Apple stuff but I am guessing things are a little more together over in the Apple apps camp.
EDIT: Sorry just having a bit of a moan.
Give Quick Pic a try. It's free and works nicely as a photo gallery for viewing local content on all my Android devices...you can choose which folders to include or exclude and the image rendering is very fast.
Id get flickfolio, really good app has all your stream and sets and so forth.
It stores it a set amount locally also so you can view while offline.
I've sworn by quickpic for a very long time but since the last few updates my albums sometimes take up to 90 seconds to load.

Try clearing it's cache.
I've done so. its a problem after cache clearking and reinstalls over multiple ROMs.
JustPictures works great for online albums as well as local stuff.
Flickr Viewer HD.
So far seems awesome, pics look great and a very cool layout. Still needs some interface work but my favorite Flickr App

+1
I've been using it since my RAM-challenged Archos tablet and it's always outperformed any stock photo app our anything else I've tried from the market.

Put a .nomedia file in you books folder and the images won't show up in the gallery.

Pretty sure there's a 15 minute window during which you can any app out and refund it if you don't like it.

Low storage since 4.1.2

How can this be? 16g Nexus, only 7g used. Only 3 free?
Mine did the same thing. Any clues out there ?

Install DiskUsage to quickly go through your storage by size. If you have root, you can use it for your system partitions as well.
That's a great app ! Been using it for years it seems... In the OP there's a picture. The picture shows a gray bar that's supposedly only 3 GB's. The visual representation of space available is incorrect in the picture and on my device also.

I've seen the same thing on mine, it's neglecting certain files/folders when making out what's using the storage, but the free storage number is usually correct.
I think in my case, my titanium backups weren't added in the equation. I moved them to an external mSD and since then it's been accurate.
Having the same problem since installing 4.1.2. Went from 5.5 gb free to 791 mb. Searched for a while but I can't find anything causing it. Glad you posted this, I was thinking of resetting back to stock and setting everything up again.
Ok, I hooked up to my computer and confirmed 13g and 3 free on Win 7.
The problem is I dont have 10g of files. I have one movie @ 4g and and 2g of music. I have checked the size of all folders on the sd and the numbers don't add up.
13-6=7 not 3 thats being shown. A significant difference!
I just found 2g in the clockworkmod folder. I did a backup prior to the 4.1.2 install. The blob folder is 2g. Can I delete it safely?
Yup, you could also move it over to pc just in case you'd ever need it.
Like I said, backups don't tend to get recognized by storage use, but DiskUsage shows em nice and clear

I have all my photos and vids on my memory card so no idea why its so large considering my stock mem is 16GB and the members card is 64GB I'll attach screen shot if poss.

You could try the below app to try and get an idea of what's taking up all the space, I find it a great visual help. Sometimes it can be a thumbnail folder that's hogging it.

Duplicate storage?

So I am cleaning up my phone when I notice I have these two folders that are identical.
Main question is, which one is safe to delete without making my phone go crazy?

Definitely not. Leave it alone; everyone has those folders and I assure you they do not exist twice.
What makes me scratch my head is that both folders are the exact same size with the same content so I just don't understand why my phone needs double since it shows my storage at 17GB and want to free up some more space
One is a link to the other. They are not duplicated, they are one and the same files

Alright, think about it this way. Open your file explorer and check the size of either of the folders by looking at their properties. For instance, mine both show that they add up to 10GB. I've also got about 3-4GB of space being used for backups and my system partition, and even more for apps. So my guess? Probably using at least 20GB of my storage. Keep in mind that I have a 32GB phone. Now if I go to settings > storage, it shows that I have 12GB of free space, so it all adds up. If you do the math, I couldn't possibly be using 20GB total for both of those folders, so they have to just be different paths to the same location, and yours probably is, too.
My conclusion: if you delete one of those folders, nothing good can come of it. Look elsewhere and account for your system itself (I see you are using the stock firmware, which is quite large due to LG bloatware) and the apps you use. Check Settings > Storage and see what's using so much space.
Thanks for confirming everyone. I guess I need to browse my phone system with my PC to find where the real bloat is at. Yes the LG apps do take up a bit of space.

You might consider finding an AOSP ROM that fits your needs if you're looking for a bit more space. They tend to be a lot smaller than stock roms. Also, try clearing your cache.

Knock on and the remote app have been ported and work very well. Check out Mahdi ROM, it works great on my G2. You can find the ported remote app in the Themes and Apps forum. Good luck!
