Buy now or wait? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I want to get the note 3. But should i buy it now or wait for sale? Does anybody know or expect a sale to happen in the near future?

Im sure there will be sales on black friday and close to Christmas. The risk of waiting though is that if you are interested in rooting/safe strap, there may be an ota between now and then that could block the current exploits.

I'd wait for the developer edition.

Logically speaking it's like a stock...reading through the thread it's just a matter of time to get the bootloader unlocked. .it's been done before it's gonna be done again. ..why wait to pay a higher price for pretty much the same device that's likely going to be unlocked in no time..

I would put the odds of a bootloader unlock on this device at extremely slim to none.

You can get it price matched at Best Buy on Newegg.com's price ($229 for new lines/$259 for upgrades). That's a pretty good discount.
Go ahead and buy it now if you want Root. If you're not planning on Rooting your phone then you can afford to wait a little. Remember this though, the longer you wait, the longer you delay from experiencing all this Note 3 goodness!!!

I am waiting for prices to come down.

What's the dev count looking like on Vzw version versus dev now that SS has been confirmed? I'm still in my 14 days and am contemplating a return.

Thanks for all the input. I decided to take the plunge. I MUST have root, so I will buy now and see what happens. So Wednesday I should have my new phone!

The price won't come down for awhile, since it was just released. Amazon may do a Black Friday/holiday deal, but I wouldn't expect the price to change much.

So you will get your phone two to three months later or not just to save like 100 bucks? If you're buying on contract, the difference between 200 dollars and 300 dollars is 4 dollars a month. Might add well have it sooner instead of later

Well, I am still on unlimited data so I cannot buy on contract. And yes, I will wait two months to save $100. When, I say secondary market, I am talking about ebay.

Yes I know, I just want some information about the stock ROM that it ships with. I maintain pages for stock Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, and Xoom firmware on my website http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com and I just want to make sure this US GSM version doesn't come with some unique build of 4.0.4 that we haven't seen yet. That's all. Just send me a PM when you get the phone and it'll take 5 minutes of your time, I promise!

I know how you feel - I paid $720 in December. It's still an awesome phone, but I can't believe how quickly it lost value. Then again, I guess that's what we get when we pay inflated grey market prices!

Yeah, it didn't lose value; you just paid inflated prices, because it wasn't available in the US.
I paid a little more ($15 more, after shipping+taxes) than this a month ago for the NTT Docomo version, and I'm OK with this. I still have a warranty through Negri, and now that it's officially available from Google, I'm hoping getting it repaired will be met with little-to-no resistance.

So... What now?

So I'm one of the unlucky people who could not get a Nexus 4. So what now?
When are we waiting till? When will it come back in stock? What's going to happen now? Should I kill myself?
I am in the same boat. I don't have my own credit card (Use paypal for everything) and was getting the info sent to me at 11:50, which was SUPPOSED to be before the sale. Someone jumped the gun *cough*Google*cough*
Saw the sale start, I had a 16GB N4 in my cart, at the final order process, but couldn't fill out CC info and watched them all sell before my eyes. It has been a sad day.
Oh well, best we can do now is wait it out and see when they start stocking more. I am curious to see how people review it once they start getting it tomorrow, and am looking to see if battery life meets Optimus G levels. Also this gives us time to buy accessories / wait for more to come out (Anyone else hoping for an OTG Micro SD integrated case)
I couldn't buy an N4 this morning. I have my GNex listed on ebay, sale is ending any second now. Maybe I should cancel it. Pretty frustrating.
Gonna look at trying again. Don't know why but I've not been getting any luck with the website.

By restocking do you mean the 'restocking fee'.
The only reason why I am waiting for the phone is because of the restocking fee.
As soon as it goes away, I will order the nexus 4. I cant risk that might make me pay $50.
I think it will go away in 2 weeks. If it goes away in a week or this friday, it will be the best thing.

The restocking fee is part of their standard policy, and it applies to all the devices that google sells, provided you don't live in the EU or Australia. If you're in the US, its not going away.

Wait, what? The restocking fee is applied to opened and returned that aren't defective. It's nominally a charge for the repackaging they have to do. It has nothing to do with them having the phone in stock or not.

Swapping a note 1, for 2, in the uk

The only reason to do this is keeping up with the smiths. EE have stated their 4g network will be round 10-15mb/s. The same as I get now on 3.
The world is full of people getting phones and 2 months in they feel they are missing out, due to blogs & engadget, etc who are paid to make you feel this.
You only really need to update every other model.
Start thinking rationally on this,NOT how those who are paid to make you feel.

Stateside here, phones are subsidized by the carriers which means the monthly bill is higher. When i was with sprint ild get a new phone every year amd could sell my "old" phone, the one year old one for more than the $200usd sprint was asking. I think this really what drives the phone markets.
Lucky for me i got off the phone treadmill, sold my S2 and bought a note for only about $150 difference. No more $90 monthly bills. I spend about $10 on prepaid a month and use voip for most of my talking.

Its a conspiracy. The phone manufacturers only release a new phone to make us buy it. Someone call the press how could they not have noticed!
Sarcasm aside what really is the point your getting at? Do you actually want to start a movement of people no buying new phones every year? What's wrong with wanting the newest handset every year? If you can afford it then why not. Or is your point that you feel the media is playing you and manipulating you into wanting a new phone and you feel this is somehow unjust?
I was going to edit this and delete most of it but decided to leave it and just say after reading your post a few more times and reading my own I think mine sounds like I am being a real ass to you. Didn't mean it to be. Was meant to sound more playful than it does. Sorry if its not.

Advice Please: Changing Carrier / Phone

I am currently changing my family over to T-Mobile and had ordered an HTC One for both my wife and I and we received them yesterday. I activated my wife's phone as well as my daughter's phone but I have not done my phone yet. Honestly, I have said for awhile that I want a Nexus Phone, and since the phone is almost half the cost of the HTC One it helps saving money to be able to get a Nexus 5 when it comes out.
Now here are my questions and hoping you all could help guide me: With Google I/O starting tomorrow should I get the phone now or wait to see what is announced at Google I/O (Though it sounds like the Nexus 5 won't be announced until October / November)? I ordered these phones via phone so can I return this HTC to the T-Mobile store? And since I want to return this and I they already requested my phone number to be transferred should I get the Nexus 4 from T-Mobile or order from Google Play (I have NO IDEA why the same phone is $130 more on T-Mobile but I will look that one up).
Any advice would be very helpful! Thanks!

The reason why it's cheaper on the Play store because Google sells them at a loss. More precisely they don't make any profit off the phones at such a low price tag. That's why T-Mobile and perhaps some other retailers will sell them for a higher price to make a few bucks off of it.
Since all Nexus 4 are the same you might as well get one from the Play Store. If anything goes wrong, Google can get you a replacement. It's also much cheaper. It comes unlocked so feel free to use it on any GSM carrier.
I think you should wait and see what happens tomorrow at the I/O conference. It seems though a new Nexus smartphone won't be released until the very end of the year.

Lol. They don't need the money. I'm not really sure why they do it. When the new Nexus 7 tablet comes out this summer they're gonna lose $5-$10 for each device sold.
Another interesting thing is that the Galaxy S4 costs about $237 to make. Buying it without a contract will cost you over $600-$700. Crazy, huh?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
They are trying to introduce more people to the play store and android experience, that's why the price is lower. Wait a day and see what happens. But if it comes down to your question about should you return HTC one for the nexus 4, I would. You'll have extra $200 to buy accessories or maybe donate some $$ to charity.

Wait until tomorrow just to see if there will be a storage bump. You can return to tmobile within 14days (30 in CA) as long as you are a new customer, for renewals tmobile no longer has a "cooling off" period so I'm not sure what the process on returns is. Buy from Google. The Samsung S4's BOM (cost of materials) is <$250 now the cost to research/market the phone I find hard to believe would come in at $500 (assuming a $750 unlocked selling price) and yet that is what they want you to believe...my point is Tmo sells the N4 for $130 more because they can and that is what people are used to paying.

So the first article has conjecture and rumor from "analysts". The last 2 are about the nexus 7, a different device, but also say that google is making very little money or selling at cost (which means they aren't losing money and is believable.)
None of the articles have anything to do with you contradicting yourself nor do they have any info from google concerning the cost of the device so...you still contradicted yourself and you still don't know how much money they are/aren't making.

Yep, "we" have known for awhile that these devices only have $200-$300 worth of parts in them and google is using their size to push down prices for devs. Unfortunately it isn't doing anything for the general price of phones, in the US at least, since most people are still on contracts
Google is an advertising company at heart, everything they do is geared towards getting people online 24/7. Hardware is a loss leader
