How much and quick should G2 deep sleep when off - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am pretty impressed with the G2 battery especially while in use. I originally got the phone and was in awe how it would go 3 hours from full charge with still 100%. So last 2 nights wanted to see what it was like all night. It looses about 2% per hour. Not terrible but Gsam shows the phone is awake for like 7 hours. I have messed with some setting and such and I will turn off for an hour then recheck. Right now it shows it was awake for 42 minutes and off the charger for 43 minutes. Woke device 8 times with 127 wakelocks. Cache update service for 42 minutes. 2% in 45 minutes battery. So the question is, how quick does the phone go into deep sleep.

it sounds like you have the 'wakelock' problem. is it google services or android system thats taking up all the power? i have that problem on my wifi at work, for whatever reason. when im on that wifi, NLPwakelock is constantly waking my phone and keeping it from going to sleep so my battery drains quickly. if im on my wifi at home or on 4G LTE then i dont have that problem.
trying turning off wifi. if you are still having the problem, you might need to turn off location reporting and location history under google settings -> location, and access to my location under settings-> location access. see if that helps.

Horrible Battery?

I had my phone charged last night and it died before i woke up in the morning. Now i just finished my charge almost 1 hour and 20 minutes ago, and its already 90 percent. And i have nothing but gtalk running, and a fresh install. Is this possible its a battery problem?
Did you check your battery use in the settings menu under phone status? It breaks down what used all your charge. If you already hooked it up and charged it full, it might be too late to tell since it wipes the last charge's results off.
Keep an eye on that and see if there is something in that list killing your battery more than normal. If everything in there looks ok, it's possible your battery is bad.

That seems normal.
Maybe you have the problem where an SMS is received and the screen stay on? Some people were reporting that problem in another thread. That would definitely kill your battery if you received a message sometime during the night.
I'm at:
Display: 52% 37min
Cell Standby 15% 3hr
Beautiful Widgets 13%
Phone Idle 13% 2hr20min
Bah that sucks, is there a fix for that sms thing? I havent seem it once yet. So basically 10 percent in 2 hours of no use is normal? I thought this phone could be on idle for days. eh.

Sorry, I missed the part where you stated the battery is at 89%...
My phone, on the first charge, lasted 28 hours with moderate to heavy usage. It should last a lot longer if it's just in standby.
Do you think i should go tomorrow to get my battery replaced?

How long have you had your phone? I'd give it a few days of fully charging/discharging to break in the battery and go from there. But the phone should definitely last you at least all day with moderate use.
I have had it since the night of the 18th. Well i mean i can try that, but it feels like its not the case. I dont know... bah

Of course it doesn't talk about the 30minutes of Wifi, the 30 or so minutes of watching some videos. Nor does it address surfing the net for around 60minutes and various emails through out the day.
Uptime 17:26:38
Battery 32%
Last night around this same time I had around 20%.
So it does seem to be improving a bit. Of course I wont know until tomorrow's usage.
I unplugged it around 6am and now its 11:37pm. So its lasting as long as I have so far. When I hit the sack I'll plug it in and go for it again tomorrow. As long as it has power when I go to bed then we will get a long just fine.

Remove widgets, lower your brightness, turn off GPS, turn off WiFi, set your notifications to a later time, and close unused running programs and see if that helps.
Personally if I'm below 75% and I have access to a charger, I just keep it plugged in to charge.
I had a fresh reinstall last night, and i lost 32 percent battery from 11pm to 10am without using the phone but for maybe 5 text messages.
I dont think this is normal...

+1.... Welcome to the inconsistencies of Android.
- Widgets off
- GPS in the task bar on. It only fires it up when it needs it anyways
- Screen Brightness I don't know I think its set to around 17-25% or so
- I turn off all that haptic feedback nonsense
- 3G off
- Wifi off
- Regular background
- I'm not running exchange or anything fancy that constantly looks for email, good old Gmail.
At least thats what I have my phone set up for. "What do you mean you don't have 3G on. Edge is so slow" Yeah its so useful when your phone is laying there doing nothing.
Same i have all that crap turned off. But i get bad battery times. Im thinking of returning and getting my battery replaced today. It wont hurt
Install Battery Graph and see how fast your battery drains at certain time intervals. You can probably tell if it's an app or not causing the problem if you see a big drop in a short time interval.
I was having the same issues for the first three day however I spent A LOT of time playing and tweaking as this is my first Andriod... I would unplug it at 6am and by 8am (with little to no use) I was down to about 65% but I was still thinking about replacing it.
I did the GPS Update and it seems to have helped a TON... Dunno what the coloration is (maybe the bad GPS signal was constantly looking and draining the battery) but it seems to really help.
Hope this helps some.
What is the GPS Update? You mean the fix in the Development section?

[Q] Open Tasks & Battery Issue

Hi.
So I had the battery issues since I got the phone and it's still going on so I'll ask it again.
I've got the Android OS task on 13% battery usage and the Android System on 19%.
I'll go on and describe how I used my phone in the past 3 days for you guys to decide if the battery drain was normal:
I've had my phone on for 72 hours - 2 hours screen turned on, 50 min voice calls. 10 min WIFI. The rest it was idle.
At the end of those 72 hours my phone was on 30%.
I've noticed that at night the phone consumes 0%-1% of battery, but 30 min browsing on WIFI consumes 20% or so.
Another thing, I've read somewhere that the Wifi Sharing Manager and Wifi Sharing tasks have to do with tethering. I haven't tethered even once and it's not turned on, but those 2 tasks keep opening and draining my battery as well. What can I do?
please help. I'll add more info if I find anything else
Thank you

My battery is crazy.

Howdy!
I think my battery is fooling me around.
Quick context:
- It's a Galaxy Tab 4, 10.1", model SM-T530.
- Android version 5.0.2.
- I received it at Chirstmas in December 2014. I barely used it until June (by that I mean maybe used it 5 times for 20 minutes). The point I'm making: I did not overwhelm or overuse it.
The problem:
I've just opened my eyes and realised some oddities... And since yesterday, I'm "actively investigating" my battery, reading a lot and "gathering data".
First thing, battery strangely draining:
Today when I switched on my Tablet, it was a 65%. I used it from 12:51 to 12:59 and it was then at 52%. I was just playing a game called "Final Fantasy Record Keeper" which does not seem to be too heavy (regarding the graphics). I put the Tablet to sleep by pressing the power button as usual.
Then I had to leave, 30 minutes after, I'm at my desk, I take out the Tablet and it's now at 42%. The tablet was in sleep mode all the time (I have a password so it wasn't possible to switch on and stay on).
I play some more and decide to use a stop watch. The battery drained from 42% to 15% really quickly, with on average around 30 seconds between each percent.
I put the Tablet to sleep again.
A couple of minutes after, I check and it's at 11%.
It takes me 30 seconds to get the cable and plug the charger. Before I plug the Tablet to the charger, I can see the battery percentage plummeting 9%... 5%... 4%... 3%... In a couple of seconds...
I plug the Tablet in.
3% to 5% in a glimpse, 8%, 9%...
Second thing, battery strangely charging:
After 1h09min, it's at 66%
After 1h44min, it's at 72%
After 2h15min, it's at 78%
After 2h46min, it's at 81%
After 3h20min, it's at 84%
After 3h39min, it's at 87%
After 4h09min, it's at 90%
After 4h21min, it's at 92%
After 5h10min, it's at 94%
After 5h18min, it's at 100%
As I don't use my Tablet often, just for hobbies, I generally just put to charge overnight and I never really checked the charging speed.
This is the first "set of data" I can provide, I will definitely look cautiously into that in the following days, hopefully under some insight from you.
Note:
I was all day with Wifi on. Even when it was charging. Everything else is off. And when I use it, the brightness of the screen is always on the lowest possible level.
Thank you very much for your first diagnosis!
Have a good day/night,
I also have that tablet but the 530nu variant and i have similar issues and even weirder i just shut it off as it was at 5% plugged it in and it said 0% charger on the powered down battery screen. Turned it back on not 2 minutes later and magically it was at 93%. Just to summarize it went from 0-93% in ,literally , 2 minutes of charging and while writting this and a few othet things, about 10 minutes since powered on its only dropped one percent. How do i access the system battery files? I am rooted so i can get into any file i want.
Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk
I have SM-335 and I have been trying to charge it for the last two days and all what I managed to achieve is 56% I have not been using it, mostly trying to get it fully charged. I noticed when checking the battery usage that WiFi was draining the battery, even when switched off to charge!!!! The other functions, like mobile network signal is constant and off when the tablet is off but WiFi bar is solid, even when the device was off. Charging is intermittent too although the cable was connected most of the time.... Next step I try is hard reset but this can't be the only solution
I had that problem on my t535. From 100 to 0 in 2-3 hours. Then when i turn it on after some time, it shows 1% but tablet works for about 5 hours on that 1%, or if i connect charger without turning on it shows 0% but when i turn tablet on it shows about 90%. I asked Samsung for new device, and i got it. Now is different story, my 6800mah battery charges in about 3:40-4 hours, and lasts about 9-10 hours(screen on time). I think thats hardware problem, because they wouldnt gave me new device if it was software problem.

Verizon S7 Edge Battery Life Terrible

And there's nothing I can do about it. I only have a gear s2 connected at all times and wifi and mobile data off whenever possible. Before I leave to the gym battery is at 44%. After the car ride there it drops one percent. I unlock the phone, connect my powerbeats, and open youtube and there go another 5%. After a YouTube video there is 7% drain. About a 10 minute video too. Leaving the gym and hour later and I see a maybe 20% battery loss. I don't know how people with regular S7s get 4-5 hours SOT because I get only 3.5 maximum. I bought the edge looking for better battery life but it's practically no different than my S5. If anyone knows a magic trick to this, I need to know now because this is extremely annoying.
IF you got the device from an official retailer, just return and get a new replacement. Losing 7% watching a 10' video is not right even with max brightness. You can fix the standby drain by using Forcedoze (which helped reduce my standby drain by 50% to about 1% every 2 hours). 3.5 hours SOT is terrible even with max brightness. Just get a replacement please. It's not worth the time and frustration.
IF you don't have the option of getting a replacement. Forcedoze can help with the standby drain. Factory reset, set up normally (personally, I just turn off bluetooth NFC location and turn them on when needed), and hope that your terrible screen on time is software related.

Do you think it might be my location by any chance? Maybe the service in my area causes this drain. I also have gps on because of my gear s2 but I can turn that off and see what happens. GSAM tells me the in the past 30 minutes the drain rate is 15% per hour. I browsed the Internet a bit and have been using it the whole time. I'll try to also do a full battery drain test on geekbench with full brightness and see what it tells me.

It's a good possibility. I have a fairly weak signal where I am most of the day and only get about 4-5 hours of SOT. I have all radios off except WiFi and data when needed. Still with my usage I only charge every 2 to 3 days. I don't get the drain like you do from watching youtube though.
My battery life also sucks. I barely use my phone during the day and it almost dead when I go to sleep. Most of the day I am connected to wifi between my work or home. My old htc m8 one could last 40 hours. I think part of the problem is because I do not have root on this phone. I kind of regret switching because I cannot get root. I cannot use applications to adjust cpu or control my wifi, data and to turn off apps from starting automatically. I think tonight I am going to try and calibrate my battery.
I had horrible battery life after taking the 2 OTAs. BetterBatteryStats would not report the device going into deep sleep at all and I was losing about 10% per hour on standby. I did a Factory Data Reset and all the problems cleared away. BBS is reporting deep sleep after about 5 minutes of the display going dark. I have Wifi, data, Bluetooth, and high-accuracy Location services turned on at all times. I lose about 2.5% per hour now with AOD turned on on standby.
Guess my advice would be to due a FDR after every OTA....
Guys, I had terrible battery life when I first got the phone. Off the charger at 6am, under 20% by 5pm... Follow my steps below and I bet your battery will do a 180 and be very nice. Mine gets me 35-40+ hours on a charge.
Disable the bloat apps you don't want in app manager.
Turn off Google usage and diagnostics reporting for the Google app, and if you use the Google keyboard, there too. This and the next one were the biggest improvements by far.
Turn off Samsung "Send Security Reports," and in the same place, turn off auto-update Samsung security updates.
Turn off device/Bluetooth/WiFi scanning.
Set keep WiFi on during sleep to while charging.
In permissions, I turned off location for any app I didn't think needed it. I went from 30+ to about 15. If an app requires location to work, you will get a popup warning when disabling location for it.
Lastly, I did a Restrict Background Data on several apps I didn't think needed it.
My phone started dozing and the battery drain dropped way out.
I keep AOD and Bluetooth on at all times and connected to my smartwatch all day, and my car about an hours a day.
Hope this helps! Apparently out of the box the S7/Edge battery life is terrible...

I installed forcedoze and did the adb non-root command and now my phone's battery is holding up better. I think the phone was just sleeping.
It's ridiculous one has to do all this to get closer to acceptable battery life.
Google and SEC should be ashamed of themselves!
It's not just VZW devices either. AT&T are just as bad.
I've given up on trying to get acceptable standby drain and just let the device live on a wireless charger.

You need to turn off all radios when you go to sleep for the device to enter deep sleep. I had the same problem and when I started turning off wifi and mobile data for the night GSAM reported deep sleep and I was only losing 3% per night.

Huge battery drain: Awake screen off

Hi
Brand new phone here, not rooted and fully stock.
During last three days I noticed a huge battery drain overnight, so I installed Better Battery Stats. Being not rooted I don't see many info but one thing is clear: after 6h being idle, I have lost 17% and BBS shows one single line as per attached screenshot.
Any idea what's going on?
Thanks
try turning off wifi and anything that syncs constantly. go into settings, battery and see what it shows. no need for an extra app.
????
I don't want to turn off wifi at night.
With my edge+ all was remaining on and I would use only 4% overnight
I have the same problem. Go to sleep at night and wake up 7 hours later with 40% drain during the night. I don't use wifi.

I've had this phone for a week, and the first 3 days all was ok, but during the last 3 nights I am experiencing this huge drain overnight.
Problem is I am not rooted (and am not willing to root right now, till Android N comes) so I cannot really use wakelock detectors to see what's going on.
Phone is set up exactly like my Samsung S6 Edge+ and this one drain max 5% overnight.
Again go into settings and battery and see what is being used
Ok tonight I'll check
Here it is.
Unplugged and left 6h idle overnight with wifi on.
Lost 12℅
I cannot understand what's going on

Tonight lost 20%
Please note this happens only at night while phone is idle.
During day battery seems OK and wifi or idle do not show up in battery usage.
Also from the screenshot I see only 1% and a very low mA usage, so I don't understand why I lose so much battery when nothing is going on.
Is this really a problem? Your phone is losing between 2% and 3.3% per hour. That doesn't seem that bad. Mine is around 6% during the day (I have it plugged in during the night).
2% per hour in doze at night is a huge problem

Yeah, that kind of drain is an issue. I lose like 1% every 6 or 7 hours overnight with phone in doze with 2 maint. cycles
