Google Wallet - NFC Compatibility Update? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I was wondering if there are any updates in regards to activating Google Wallet's NFC capabilities in the LG G2.
For a phone that has been released for a while it's a little surprising that there are little to no updates for this feature.
Any updates or news would be much appreciated.

Youd think for a company that works with google theyd have it by now but unfortunatly there is no news on it :/ google wallet isnt that big yet anyhow pretty much everybody and their mothers dont know what it is when i explain it to them, i dont think enough people use it to be updated on every device keep an eye out tho! but for now no luck

currently, i think the only way is to root your phone and flash a rom. an aosp rom allows google wallet to work. the stock rom does not.

Fair enough. However since the Sprint version of the G2 supports Google Wallet and the Sprint system dump has been uploaded isn't it possible to make it so Tap and Pay can work on other variants?

according to kitkat leaks, the new version of google wallet will not require a secure element. so it could possibly run on any phone

Froyo features - some doubts

Hi,
There are are few features that were announced at I/O but I haven't seen so far:
- being able to install apps from the market on your PC.
- being able to buy music on the market.
- being able to stream music from your PC.
Were these features even announced for froyo, or are they scheduled for gingerbread? Do you guys know?
I say give it a week or two. Maybe Google is still working on getting the features out.
They said "these are some of the things they are working on for the next release" so we likely won't see these fully implemented until Gingerbread.

Those aren't features of FroYo only, but of www.android.com as well which is obviously not yet re-launched.
Gingerbread features or a mid update. Not in this release for sure. They said that loud and clear in the keynote.

That's what I meant, they depend on the market webpage but is froyo equipped to take advantage of these possible changes in the market? I mean, if it happened tomorrow; would froyo benefit from it?

Only the first one. The other 2 need an additional software plus an updated music player. I'm sure they wanna get this service up and running as fast as possible and we will probably get an OTA with this in the future. My best guess is that it will happen when the new market web site is released.
Thanks mate, that made it clearer. What about...?
- The application data backup. Is our apps' data being backed up now? Do developers have to change their apps to take advantage of the feature? What if we uninstall an app? Where -and how- does the user notice the feature?
- Searching within the apps' data. Does this mean that the global search will be able to find stuff inside your apps, that is, as if you hit the search button while using an app? Same as you can search something in the music app and the youtube app, even while not using them? If so, again; do developers have to modify their apps to take advantage of this feature? How does the user notice it?
Both of those require developers to use the feature in code
As for the original features, in the keynote they said "something we are working on for beyond Froyo" Which to mean could mean that its for between Froyo and Gingerbread, after all the code needed has all been added in Froyo

So, supposing a developer uses that specific feature in a certain app: would that mean that the app could only be used in 2.2 onwards? Or would older Android versions still be able to run it, albeit not using the feature?
A friend is developing a couple apps and he could use that information

Yep. Before every one of these they clearly mentioned it.

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm assuming that since it uses new APIs, that it could only be run on 2.2, but the features just seem not important enough to justify losing a ton of potential users.

Google wallet and AT&T S3

Is there, or will there be a way to use google wallet on the non sprint S3s? With or without root or rom?
There has to be some info on this out there. Is Google Wallet just a gimmick or will this really take off? If so I would think AT$T and Verizon being bigger providers than Sprint, there would have to be the ability to get these to work with it.

there is info on this, if you search.
wallet is only support officially by sprint. the rest of the carriers you will have to find the modded apk for wallet.
(also, i hit the thanks button accidentally instead of 'quote' on your post, so free thanks for you!)
I searched, but anything that comes up is about Sprint having it and AT&T not...But at least I know that it will be possible at some point.
The question is if the At&t version has a secure element. If it doesn't, then there is no chance.

How do we go about finding something like that out? If they are wanting their version of the s3 to work with some other "google wallet" type system, it would seem it would have all the same requirements. I dont see them killing the ability completely, just had the software side removed. But who knows what these guys will do these days.
Att is developing their own system with some other carriers called ISIS. Probably not a chance to get Google wallet working on the att version.

I would try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1365360
EDIT: That only works on rooted devices, my bad
Having to root it is not a big deal, I just wanted to know it was possible to use it if the need came up. Right now I dont think NFC payments are big enough to consider a must have, but if the day comes that 8 of 10 shops use some sort of nfc payment system it will change my mind for sure. I just like to know that I can do something. Im sorta waiting to root as well Its running like a champ and everything that i use daily is working without a root. Once a nice easy one click is out that will not trip the counter I will go for it, or if some app or ability that I just have to use requires it. But just enjoying the phone for now as is
I am rooted still doesn't work on i747 just hangs on activating

Maybe now that so many are getting this phone we will see some work being done to figure this out.
to get it to work you will need to fudge the phone into thinking it's connected with Sprint using Market Enabler or equivalent. That's I had to do on my G Nexus in canada.
so, for some reason, i installed it, it loads but i get this message, and just stopps.
"Initializing your device. this make take a few min...... blahh blahh.. "
thats it..
Worked for me on Canadian sgs3...
I'll try post instructions for it tomorrow evening.

Google Wallet?

Hi, I'm new to the LG brand of phones, but I've had just about ever other brand. I wanted to know if LG phones have been able to use Google Wallet, and if someone can test Google Wallet on a VZW G2. I'm thinking about picking it up as my upgrade soon, but also was considering the GS4 since I know I can get wallet to function on that easily. Obviously I know information on this at this point is going to be scarce, but I hope someone can shed some light on this for me!

I tried to load google wallet yesterday with no success. ISIS wallet installed fine but would not work with my older SIM w/o NFC security element
So it would not install for you ?

I understand this. Its the same story for all other VZW phones. Except the GS4 can use it just fine so long as you have root and the MoDaCo Toolkit. Granted the GS4 has a secure element which Google Wallet requires. My main question is I guess.... does the G2 have an onboard secure element? ISIS require a secure element Sim card to use. Google Wallet only looks for an internal one.
Now that we have root for all variants of the G2, can someone test this out? The directions from this thread should help out a bit. Although this is all assuming that the G2's firmware has the required Libs as well.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could test this!
How about At&T version of G2 ? Anybody tryed yet?
Google wallet says not compatible on at&t, and Isis will not run if u are rooted...

The G2 is designed for ISIS and not supported by Google Wallet in the US.

Google needs to end the block. It's eliminating competition by blocking Google wallet.
ISIS can actually run on rooted roms now. Search it up. People have been running it on the Droid DNA for a bit now. Google isn't the one who is blocking Wallet by choice. Verizon, AT&T, & T-mobile are all on the ISIS bandwagon, and do not allow Google Wallet to run on their network officially . Normally you should be able to use any legal software on your carrier according to the FCC, but Verizon is actually getting around this by not including secure elements in phones but instead moving the secure element to the SIM card which Google Wallet does not check at the moment.
Since I don't have a G2 yet, I can't test the things I would like to. The thread I linked to previously here should give some instructions on how to install Google Wallet from the Play Store and see if it functions. Like i said we may need some lib files though from a Sprint variant. Usually Sprint is the only carrier to support Google Wallet on their devices. Ultimately the VZW G2 may not have an on-board secure element, and we may just be stuck using ISIS unless Google codes Wallet to look for an external SIM SE.

Nope, Google wallet would not install and ISIS would not activate since my SIM did not have the NFC security element.
I tried closed framework and every module I could find, but couldn't get Google wallet to install, nor Isis to get past the root block. any ideas?

Try this module with xposed framework. It's worked for me in the past to get Wallet installed from the market on my Droid DNA. You need to edit your build.prop though to match a supported device like the Nexus 4/Galaxy Nexus. MoDaCo Toolkit module has a nice build.prop edit section you can use.
Once you get it installed, don't change the build.prop back until you go through the wallet setup (if it even launches)
From what I'm reading from you guys here, it seems that even installing wallet is a challenge! I always thought that was the easy part lol. The hard part is dealing with if it actually functions or not :/

Nah the Google wallet installer will not run on unsupported devices (a la the build.prop changes) with or without the module. Same deal on most other phones that aren't explicitly a nexus. Do you have a list of what I need to change the build.prop to to allow install? I'll give it another try. But I bet the "secure element" being in the Sim will put the kabosh on all of this anyways. ****ing Verizon.. man.

Google is releasing the Wallet app to all devices 4.2 and up. Not sure what this means for evryone, but it is a hopeful sign.

Where does the APK go after an install and what permissions? I'm going to try to sideload.

I can see the wallet app but it 'isnt compatible with my device' from the store.
I did, however, order an NFC Secure Element SIM and got it today, and set up my ISIS... but it only accepts American Express and Chase (not VISA) so I can't test it out.
It does work though (loads at least).

The new APK does install and work, aside from Tap to Pay. Says "Not available". So we still need some new method of getting out Secure Element Sims supported. if that's possible. My SE sim should be here on thursday. I'll do some digging.

[Q] Google wallet Tap and Pay Tmobile 4.2 and 4.4

Did anyone ever get this working. I think it's absolutely terrible that it is disabled by default. I know that custom roms allow this, but love the stock with Wifi calling.
Can anyone confirm if Tap to Pay with Google wallet works on the new 4.4 update?
Since no one has the official T-Mobile update yet (if it even exists at this point), it can't be 100% confirmed. However, one of the major features of 4.4 is that it allows for NFC payments regardless of carrier. So it should work once we get the OTA.

It's my understanding that the Sprint phone doesn't have this limitation and that Tap and Pay is functional. Here's to hoping that these geniuses here get it working correctly.

Googless ROM

Ive tried searching, but cannot find if there is a ROM for the S5 that blocks all google back ground services from reporting on you, whatever info it may be. Ive seen the rumor of the company selling their refurb phones with a custom ROM on it, but at ludicrous prices, and cant even find them at all. Im going to be getting an S5 from a friend soon and want to start stripping it of the fluff and google services if at all possible.
I don't know of any custom ROMs that include Google services by default. Just don't install GApps.
OK, thanks.

Pardon the stupid questions, im a Windows user and having to investigate the possibility of being forced to move if they dont fix Cortana's voice command (she only does searches when you give her a command) and Interests have been turned off for a while with no warning or reason, but there is a message on a 8.1 phone as to why.
Anywho, how do you load apps if you dont have Gapps/google services? Can you side load them, but where do you get up to date ones if not from the Play store? Is it worth using a free S5 or plunking for a One Plus 6T or 7 or Nokia 8?
