Hi proxuser
what are the key unique features of this ROM ?
i already tried carbon rom

@proxuser
Hi, topic, im a noob so i cant yet post in the developement section, I tested your latest kernel, flashed:
Kartal-JB4.3-AOSP-eur_3g-10.29.2013.zip
and my device didnt want to start up. It hung on the samsung startup screen.
I'm using using cm10.2 official nightlies 25 October rom. I have previously flashed your 1.9ghz overclocking kernel, it worked fine.
Had to restore my backup
Ive got the 3g handset

Thanks! I'm really thrilled about this one. Hands down best Rom on my Nexus 7. Downloading now.
Hope you get BLN working. Have you considered Active Notifications alternatively? Might even be the better solution.

Don't see the benefit in that. You could just use Apps like NoLED or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greatbytes.activenotifications&hl=de
benefit of BLN is less battery drain

Thanks for the advice. I already gave them a try. Knock2 ist too far removed from a stock like appearance, NoLED has a hughe battery drain and DN has had a known issue with low res icons for several versions on the S4 mini, which is still not fixed.
Besides, the big advantage would be a tighter integration of the functionality with the rom hence potentially lowering battery consumption even further and resolving problems with unlocking the phone, those apps tend to run into.

I am using: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ledblinker.pro&hl=en
I compared it to NoLED and it drains less battery.
Try it

Turns out, we had Active Notifications all along. It can be found in the display settings.

I spent an hour or two a month ago trying to find out why Netflix doesn't work. What other folks were saying in various non-Glacier threads is that Netflix support depends on a specific type of HD graphics hardware support in the kernel. None of the kernels we have for the Glacier currently provide that support. Hopefully that will change when (if) a 3.0 kernel is successfully ported.

Thats NOT what he meant buddy. If you have ever been in this forum, you would note that question threads go in the QUESTION forum. People get pissed if you get messed up so consider this your ONLY warning because others probably won't be so "kind". Next time, ask your question in the right forum and i promise it will be properly answered.
I love this forum. Also, how did the OP think this was developement of any sorts?

What are benefits of CyanogenMod?

I am new to Android (been an iPhone user for years), and am loving the Nexus 4 so far. I'm rooted the phone and installed a custom kernel (franco), and I've been thinking of possibly putting a custom ROM on my device. I see a lot of people using CyanogenMod but I don't see much info on what the benefits of this mod are.
I checked out http://www.cyanogenmod.org/ but it looks like there's only a few addons that are in there (theme support, dsp equalizer). Are there other benefits of this that I'm missing?
Check out the features of the ROM. Their website isn't very informative because it isn't updated to date with what's in the ROM nowadays.
When switching to another Rom I recommend using titanium back up to back up your apps so you can restore them afterwards and keep your settings.
Some highlight features,
- battery percentage
- notification tiles are more beneficial rather than shortcuts it actually toggles them on and off
- navigation bar changes. Customizable to your liking
- quiet hours
- wake phone using volume rocker
- lock screen tweaks. Add shortcuts, show battery percentage.
Etc etc. I recommend downloading the unofficial version of cm named jellybro found in android development as it contains commits not in the official build just yet.
Just download it you won't be dosappointed. Plus in older phones, cm is faster than stock and most of the times their manufacturer hasn't updated their stock Rom to Android 4.2 where cm has. That's why it's popular because of its maintenance of the project
Note: you need to flash gapps with cm. It contains Google apps. Can't be packaged with roms, is illegal.
Flash Franco kernel as well as cm

Where can I find the Jellybro? I assume it's more risky going with this rom seeing how those commits aren't in the nightly build version? The normal nightly build has an updater in it to pull down the most recent build right? Does Jellybro have the same?
Thanks again for your help, some people on here haven't been quite as kind

Most people assume that it's more risky. But it really isn't, it's a very stable Rom and is pretty much what it is. It's cm + early commits aka cherry picks. These early commits are not yet approved or merged by cm but they are pending.
Jellybro does not have it. It updates every day or every couple of day, when I used my galaxy Nexus it updated everyday. It all depends on who compiles it and when he does. You have to check for it using goo manager (not sure if still supported) or by the website. I just do it from the site and follow the guy on twitter and it's posted when it's up.
The kangers don't put random early commits either, they assure its working before it's uploaded. Not saying it's 100% perfect but I'd say it's perfect all the time. Never have any problems using it for a year and more.

I would really recommend Cyanogenmod with faux's kernel. I would also use system tuner or faux's app to tweak the kernel settings. I've tried a lot of ROMs/kernels and this is by far the best set up for me

[Q] Some questions about installing a custom ROM on my Nexus 4

I know there might be so many threads asking questions about Custom ROMs and mine is going to be no different.
I have few questions about Custom ROMs & Moreover, one of my good friends has been trying to convince me to install a Custom ROM on my Nexus 4. He has done the same on his Nexus 4 and is really happy with it.
First of all, what advantages does a custom ROM has over stock ROM? (a little bit of details would be really really appreciated)
Second, if I am going to install one, I would really love to know what options I have & how much good & bad they are.
At last, I would welcome any other suggestions or tips.
Hope you will have a good day!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2180999
That will help.
Basically all of the ROMs, except that Optimus G port, will be fully functional. Your task will be to try a few, figure out which options you want and decide on the one you want. We cannot tell you what is good for you.
Start with Paranoid Android, CM and AOKP if you want loads of features.
My approach towards custom ROM is more about getting better software on my phone. With Nexus4, you can be assured that you will get the latest software always, but Better? Not always. CustomROM follow non-traditional approach avoiding bloatwares (not any for nexus I believe), optimizing for the performance and/or battery life, providing more functions and S/W upgrades.
I haven't flashed custom ROM yet on my Nexus 4, because simply I don't have any reason for it. I am happy with stock android, with battery life & with the performance of my handset.
Apart from all this, there is one more aspect,'Personal interest'. If you have that, go ahead, there are plenty of good options waiting for your attention on XDA
This will help as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2284384&highlight=rom+advantage
2-3 features I absolutely love which will probably never make into stock roms are -
Sweep2wake - buttons have limited life, and because this Nexus 4 doesn't have warranty in India, it matters a lot. I just sweep on the screen to activate it. And tap on a notification to lock it.
Pie Controls (I have completely disabled the navigation bar. I have a full 4.7 inch content screen)
CM Profiles - can't appreciate this enough. Very useful to filter out notifications during night when you want minimal distribution.
Keeping features aside, I have over clocked the cpu to 1.7 Ghz.
And Linaro patches for tool chain with which the rom is compiled, improves smoothness and battery life.

If you decide to install ParanoidAndroid you get customizable navbar and notification bar. You can set the heigh of the navbar and also the backgroundcolor and iconcolor for both bars. PA have HybridSettings. You can display the calendar app on your smartphone like it would be on a tablet.
I tried CM and PA and i'm now on PA because of the customisations and the better implemented pie. Both are very stable and the battery is for me like with stock.
But there are a lot of ROMs and like already said you have to find "your" ROM
First of all, I apologize for replying late. Secondly, thanks for your answers, they helped me a lot. I actually have one more question,
I want as much as customization and little bit more battery life, which ROM is really good for that?
Moreover, is there any comprehensive list of custom ROMs for Nexus 4?
Once you go custom rom, you will never return to stock rom. Go for it. You won't regret it.

Battery life is similar between most roms. Custom kernels play a larger role in battery.
ROMs based on AOKP generally have the most customization settings. These include liquid smooth, carbon, etc...
Heres a directory of roms for the n4, but its best to just go through the Android Development/Original Android Development section and look for one you like.

few mods for stock rom

So yes, i,ve stated it in the title.
I'm using Frosty Jelly bean from past 2 weeks.
and trust me by far the BEST STOCK ROM ever you can even think of.
it is way toooooo quick and smooth.
After the first update, i,ve requested the dev to add few tweaks for the the update but Unfortunately, the dev thinks that no one, else than me and him using his rom.
And he has kinda abandoned the work.
So the reason why i am writing this post is to ask you guys that is there any way that i can add these few mods to that rom without an update from the dev's side.
1- enter instead of smiley face in keyboard
2- navigation bar customization
P.s i,ve already searched the forum :$ but couldn't find any thing similar to what i'm asking for here :$
Else trust me guys the ROM is way more quicker than the STOCK it self.

OK here's what you do buy swift key that will fix the keyboard to what you want
Search play store for nav bar customization it's for root phones and only cost. 99 cents but allows you to change size and things like that. No reason for the developer to add these things if you can with out any coding

Thanks for your reply mate, but if i wanted to install applications, i wouldn't be asking here.
The thing is i actually want to keep it stock :/
I know installing applications will keep it stock but you know things implemented by default play safe role in the smoothness of the rom :/
And the mods i guess once installed get sick to the rom.
But anyways thanks for your reply and still if anyone has the mods do help me :$
Because I'm truly in love with the speed of this rom.

1 - If I'm not mistaken the enter key is a .png inside /system/app/systemui.apk or /system/framework/framework-res.apk. Replace the png with whatever you want.
2 - Get frosty's source code, compile it and make sure it runs first. Next, get AOKP's github and cherry pick their navigation bar changes. Rebuilt, and see if it runs
Also, it's NOT A STOCK ROM anymore. It's still considered a custom rom. It DID NOT SHIP with the phone.
Well in this case it may be your only option as many of us just use the apps so we can have the option on all rom but at least the more you and I hat back and forth the longer this topic will be at the top I have stock non rooted but rooting it probably next week so I can flash an older base band and will be changing my nav bar with that app.

While a novel idea and a good way to separate, xda trends say this isn't going to get much use and everyone who is able to post in the development threads will post about anything related to the rom including installations. 45 pages in a few days is just too much to go through. Not everyone can read that much quickly. I'm sure skimming will probably skip a lot of the repeated questions.
Also, last I recall the OP of the ROM thread didn't include his build manifest.

Hey guys, I have been running the 20151018 build for a day or so now and it is amazing. I have only ran into one problem.
Facebook constantly crashes (even when I do not have it open) - I uninstalled it for the time being until this gets resolved.
I do not see the battery drain that the Dev was talking about. The standby is pretty amazing!

Hey guys, I have been running the 20151018 build for a day or so now and it is amazing. I have only ran into one problem.
Facebook constantly crashes (even when I do not have it open) - I uninstalled it for the time being until this gets resolved.

No it didn't. I normally do not use Titanium Backup for anything other than SMS ad Call Log. Both SMS and Call Log worked because I had them backed up as XML files that I manually restored but as far as restoring Apps, i couldn't. There wasn't even an option.

Try to clear cache, that might work if not -
Maybe try NextCameraMod! It supports everything! Haven't ran into an issue thus far!
