few mods for stock rom - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yes, i,ve stated it in the title.
I'm using Frosty Jelly bean from past 2 weeks.
and trust me by far the BEST STOCK ROM ever you can even think of.
it is way toooooo quick and smooth.
After the first update, i,ve requested the dev to add few tweaks for the the update but Unfortunately, the dev thinks that no one, else than me and him using his rom.
And he has kinda abandoned the work.
So the reason why i am writing this post is to ask you guys that is there any way that i can add these few mods to that rom without an update from the dev's side.
1- enter instead of smiley face in keyboard
2- navigation bar customization
P.s i,ve already searched the forum :$ but couldn't find any thing similar to what i'm asking for here :$
Else trust me guys the ROM is way more quicker than the STOCK it self.

OK here's what you do buy swift key that will fix the keyboard to what you want
Search play store for nav bar customization it's for root phones and only cost. 99 cents but allows you to change size and things like that. No reason for the developer to add these things if you can with out any coding

Thanks for your reply mate, but if i wanted to install applications, i wouldn't be asking here.
The thing is i actually want to keep it stock :/
I know installing applications will keep it stock but you know things implemented by default play safe role in the smoothness of the rom :/
And the mods i guess once installed get sick to the rom.
But anyways thanks for your reply and still if anyone has the mods do help me :$
Because I'm truly in love with the speed of this rom.

lol no worries mate.
I haven't took it serious.
I know devs got their own lives as well, basically I'm regretting not having knowledge regarding rom developing that's why being too fussy (if you want to call me): $

1 - If I'm not mistaken the enter key is a .png inside /system/app/systemui.apk or /system/framework/framework-res.apk. Replace the png with whatever you want.
2 - Get frosty's source code, compile it and make sure it runs first. Next, get AOKP's github and cherry pick their navigation bar changes. Rebuilt, and see if it runs
Also, it's NOT A STOCK ROM anymore. It's still considered a custom rom. It DID NOT SHIP with the phone.

Well in this case it may be your only option as many of us just use the apps so we can have the option on all rom but at least the more you and I hat back and forth the longer this topic will be at the top I have stock non rooted but rooting it probably next week so I can flash an older base band and will be changing my nav bar with that app.

Customize your carrier name

I am adding support for customize carrier name for CM, and almost done.
Carrier name is shown in the notification area, top-right of lock screen, and setings/about phone/status...Network
The well know names are "T-Mobile", "Version", "CMCC" and so on. some carrier name even not readable and friendly, do you know what's "CMCC" means? certainly not. But it's means "China Mobile". that's why I want to customize carrier name, I also found some guy's want to custom it for personality, such as "Bob's Evo" and so on. search 'carrier name' in this forum you'll find many people want it.
Now on my N1 with CM built by myself last night, carrier name has been update to readable and internationalization (i18n).
(newbie cann't add external link...)
Would you like this feature come into CM 6.1?
update: screen shots attached.
1. Before it's "CMCC",
2. Now it's "China Mobile",
3. i18n for Chinese:
Cool, that would make a nice little new feature to add.

Why just offer for CM?
I want the ability to put any name/text/character as the carrier name please.

I think it's a good idea but don't care about it because I have mine set to not show anything there anyway. But I would like to be able to put a shortcut to an app or two in that area.
I know you can put apps in the notification area, but I don't like them there and I have that block of blank space that isn't being used and would be a great place for launching an app without exiting the current app I'm in.
Unless, of course, this can already be done and I just haven't found it yet.
Cool idea

Samsung Galaxy II update to increase the size of icons
Even if Samsung were stupid enough to actually do this (and they aren't), you could just use an alternative boot loader (which most of us do anyway).
If you're on this forum, and still using a stock Samsung firmware, then what's wrong with you?
Number of rows on the homescreen is not hard to change, i am sure there will be a mod out within days to change it.
There will also be alternative launchers, tw4.5 etc.

Maybe its a good thing cos my grandad needs a new phone anyway and the bigger icons will be just what he needs. Now i know what Im gonna get him for xmas
Optional or not. If disliked there are multiple launchers on the market to replace the factory one..beauty of Android.
LCD Density Changer and ADW Launcher is all you need.
Just change the DPI of your screen. 240 is WAYY too high for such a big beautiful screen. It's like running 800x600 on a 24" 1080P monitor. 190 is a lot nicer and more crisp. You can use Rom Toolbox from the market to achieve this. Root required.

I spent an hour or two a month ago trying to find out why Netflix doesn't work. What other folks were saying in various non-Glacier threads is that Netflix support depends on a specific type of HD graphics hardware support in the kernel. None of the kernels we have for the Glacier currently provide that support. Hopefully that will change when (if) a 3.0 kernel is successfully ported.

pie controls

i am searching for a link for pie controls with the expanded desktop option.ive been googling and found nothing too useful.paranoid android has a nice one but i dont want the rom i just want a flashable zip for my stock set up.
You can get pie from the market. It is called LMT Launcher. As far as expanded desktop. I am not sure...

GMD gesture control (play store) can remove your navbar.
Also disables your wallpaper though.
Conclusion: Man up, and install a custom ROM.
Maybe because I don't like custom roms I like to keep it stock

If you like stock then you wouldn't like PIE controls. If you want custom stuff then you use a custom rom.
It really kills me when people say they want to stay stock but with customizations. These are nexus devices. All custom ROMs are just stock with built in options. Where do you think the source code comes from... *hint* it's stock source from Google.

I love how people intrude with their sarcasm.....no sh%$ its built off source code its also built off a persons own customizations on how they want things right? I love how people post their address on an open forum saying "come fight me bro! #swag #YOLO #blahblahblahnoonereallycares."
You were given options. Take them or leave them. But for the love of the flying spaghetti monster in the sky, don't whine, complain or try to act like an Internet bada$$ when you get butt hurt from someone's response. It is childish and moronic. Either take the advice you ask for or not. But you can gtfo and do it yourself if you got a problem with people's responses.

Ugh... this is getting ugly.
podagee... you can't have it both ways... either pure stock or custom... take your pick.
My own ROM of choice has PIE/Expanded desktop options, but is reasonably close to stock in all other regards.
If you want these features, then custom is the way to go.
Rgrds,
Ged.
There is absolutely no need to install a custom rom to enjoy pie and expanded desktop.
-> First install the most recent version of LMT Launcher http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150 . Set it up any way you like and set it to autostart on boot. (Tip: make sure there is a menu button in your pie.)
-> Second edit your build prop. You can use a build prop editor, or droid edit, or es file explorer or any other text editor that can handle root files. You can find your build prop in /system/build.prop . At the end of the file insert the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 .
-> Reboot and it's done. This is how I used pie when I was on stock.
Now I switched to cyanogenmod, which has build in expanded desktop, so editing the build prop isn't necessary anymore. I still prefere LMT over cyanogenmod's pie though.
Nobody said anything about fighting.and BTW I asked about pie controls not Roms get it?a simple question and you guys give a stupid answer **** it close this thread, cause what I wanted was help and instead some know it all asshole jumps in with idiotic remarks.
Gedblake and westervoort thanks.simple like that is how its supposed to be not nitpick at bs.I however managed to add pie controls almost exactly like paranoid android, almost.it turned out really nice so it is possible.I don't like custom cause I've been running into issues with battery and freezes. So I am just going to remain stock, but, remember it is possible to do whatever you want, even if stock.thanks guys.

Hi, podagee...
Yeah... sorry for for the slightly irascible post. Guess it's all about relative perspective's - from my point of view, the easiest way of accomplishing your desired goal was to flash a ROM... but Westervoort knew of a way that obviated that need, which I didn't know about.
As I have said elsewhere, 'not everybody can know everything'.
Anyway, glad you found a solution (whatever that might be) that you're happy with.
Good luck...
Rgrds,
Ged.
If everyone who started posted remarks before reading everything, please be sure to read all posts before adding in your 2 pennies.as I've stated in the beginning of this thread I've already found a way for pie and a way to hide the navbar.thanks

Can we assume you don't want to go all in and install TWRP and a ROM like Cleanrom 1.1? Do you want to keep it completely stock, just with root?
Since you're rooted, I would at least remove the so-called bloat apps put there by the carrier by using a script that will remove it. That would be found in the development section of the G2 forum.
Better yet would be to install TWRP and then go for CleanROM 1.1 which does the debloating and much more.
In addition, there are a few UI tweaks that are nice and can be found around the forums. I suggest poking around these forums while it's still small and seeing what might strike your fancy.
To recap:
1. Root
2. TWRP --> then good idea to backup
3. CleanROM 1.1 or at least a debloat script which will remove junky carrier apps
4. Remove softkeys
5. Tweak UI stuff ( remove brightness slider/volume slider/shrink notifications/navigations/ that sort of thing ) -- search forums for the tweaks you like
6. Turn off Carrier IQ -- there is a thread for G2 that shows how
7. Xposed Framework -- not totally necessary at this stage but why not take a look, eh?
For myself, the first six are a must. But, the first five I recommend since you already turned to the dark side by getting rooted. :highfive:
If any of this is too vague please read some basics, do some googling, then ask some questions in the appropriate sections of the forums.
Good luck and have fun!

Hi everyone,
Just got my G2, D802 today. It got released in India, the country I belong to, today. The phone is brilliant, no doubt about that. The first few things negatives I have experienced in the first couple of hours of use are:
1. The phone earpiece is not up to the standards of a flagship, its week.
2. The same has to be said about the phone speakerphone.
I'd love to hear the experience of everyone else using the device.
I'd like to root the device & get rid of the bloatware as well.

Hi Buddy,
I am from Durgapur, West Bengal. Purchased the phone from the Distributor directly who billed the phone to one of his dealers who in turn billed the phone to me. The phone is 32GB Version. I paid INR.42300.00
By Bloatware I mean the unwanted features/apps for me like the LG Smart World app, Slide Aside feature & then the QSlide feature. I want a minimal ROM on my phone so that I can enjoy maximum free RAM & system resources which are you know eaten up by these apps & features.

Problem is that when I'm using Pie Control there's a delay for when I hit something. Like just going back, and it takes like... 0.5-1 second before it respons. Is this a bug or something that everyone has?
