My LED Flash bulb went out... - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Disappointed in the quality. I'm 90% sure it's physically out, but let's see if there's any way to troubleshoot.
Basically, was working fine initially, but it is not something I often use camera/camera flash. I found a thread about the hidden "torchlight" setting so that holding up on the volume when the screen is off turns on the light of X amount of seconds. It was working fine, but then yesterday I saw that it wasn't working.
I didn't think much of it, maybe some app I downloaded caused a conflict. But I just tried it with the camera flash and other flashlight apps and I get no light at all.
Any suggestions? Or am I going to have to deal with VZW.

Had the same problem. Camera flash and flashlight app stopped working. Tried different apps no help. Rebooted the phone and all is working now. Mine is still stock, not rooted

That did it, thanks. Still wonder why this happened though

Idk but don't get me wrong I came from a Note2 to the Note 3 and I absolutely love this phone but there's quite a few little bugs I've noticed. We definitely need a software update! Idk if u guys experienced it yet but a few times now I had all my apps that were in folders I made just get completely thrown out of them. At first I thought it was just with 3rd party launchers but then it happened once with TW too. I am not rooted either.

I believe there has been a small software update to the Canadian and European note 3's. We should get that soon enough. Overall though a great phone

Weird graphics corruption.

Hi. I have had this Nexus 4 for about a month and it has does some strange things with the graphics on the bottom bar of buttons. Please see the screenshots attached. It can happen every few minutes and as soon as I touch the screen it will revert to normal again.
Is this something that is likely to get fixed with an update or a hardware issue?
I can't find anything on the internet referring to the same problem but the sales guy in the local carphone warehouse has a nexus 4 as well and said his does the same :-/
Anybody know what is causing it.
Completely stock BTW oh and as you can see. Pressing the hardware buttons for a screenshot does not fix it. Only touching the screen.

Wow.. thats not normal! I would look into RMA'ing that sucker!
You could try using a toolkit to reflash stock to see if that helps, however you will have to unlock the bootloader, flash stock rom and then relock bootloader, then you just go into settings and do a full reset to hide the developer options then you will be stock. The toolkit I use is this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2015469 and its awesome just follow the on screen prompts.
I'm quite sure that this is a software issue, since hardware issues can't be captured by screenshots obviously. I'd recommend flashing it with whatever you like and do a factory reset. You can restore all apps afterwards ofc (use Titanium Backup for example).
Best regards!

OP, did you try checking "Disable HW Overlay" in the Developer's Options????

That only means that it isn't an issue with the physical screen. It could still be an issue with the GPU or other hardware, since various hardware is used to create that software image in the first place.
I have seen exactly this sort of picture posted in at least one thread before on here before, though that might be hard to find on a search.
I would also recommend reinstalling the ROM and if it still happens then it must be hardware. I strongly suspect that it is the hardware.

Thanks for all the replies
I have now disabled HW overlays and it does seem to have fixed the issue (or at least made it far better, I have not noticed it since but it has only been an hour)
I will keep in eye on it for a bit and if it lasts cone back and change the title of the thread to solved.
Thanks for all the help guys.

hmmm, and the gpu just decides to screw up down there in a perfectly aligned rectangular shape that happens to resemble the navigationbar? i think thats unlikely.
gimpor, can you play gpu accelerated games? try please.
its probably googles weird 4 layer stuff. thats why disabling hw overlays fixes it. same guy that screwed up the kernel colors that merged it into 4.2.2 btw. : P
gimpor again,
hwoverlay is not permanent, a reboot unchecks it. try this
replace persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=true
with debug.mdpcomp.maxlayer=3
in your build.prop
or in the worst case persist.hwc.mdpcomp.enable=false
Its much better but still not fixed. Only done it once in about 8 hours whilst playing a solitaire game. I will try the other suggestions when I have decoded them into English :-/
I have not found any games that don't work yet, bad piggies etc. Seem to work okay. Would they be GPU accelerated?
Once again thanks for the assistance with this, it does get rather annoying when you show someone your phone and it's all garbled.
It still does this though :-/

I haven't found out anything further and it's still doing it but not as bad. It doesn't seem to happen to every stock phone so I'm guessing its hardware related, or at least something in software not playing well with this specific hardware. Mine is a 212 so they may have changed something on the later ones. I got it from Carphone warehouse on the UK as they were the only ones with stock. I had it changed already as the first one I got was DOA. I think it's going to have to go back if I can't get it fixed soon.

Camera not working?

So I have had this phone for 5 days now. Everything has been fine but today the camera has randomly stopped working.
When I load the camera app it just shows a black screen with all the usual camera logos.
I have tried accessing the camera from facebook app and its the same. I have also tried from snapchat and in snapchat the front camera works but when I switch to back the app almost locks up.
I have tried restarting the phone several times. I have force closed the camera apk and wiped the cache.
Does this sound like a hardware fault?

Sounds like it, yes. If you are getting no picture from the camera with multiple apps, it must be a hardware fault. Instead of trying to fix the problem yourself, just return the phone under warranty and let Samsung fix it. I'll assume you're still stock? You didn't specify this.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yes it is still stock.
I phoned up phones4u coz thats where I got the phone from. I have insurance with them so if the phone is ever faulty I get a brand new sealed unit instead of it being repaired.
They advised me first to try a factory reset incase there is a corrupt driver. If not I take it back this afternoon and they will give me a brand new one

Speaker stopped working

Hi,
I've had my S4 for about 3 days now and today all of a sudden the rear speaker has stopped working. No sound comes out of it at all, including notifications, screen lock sounds, touch sounds and any other sound. I have restarted multiple times but there is still no sound. If I plug in some headphones then I can hear the sound through them, so the problem seems to be related just to the main speaker.
Please help me
Is it brand new. Can you take it back?
Are you rooted? Flash another ROM?

I wouldn't say a lot, but I do use them for an hour or two every night before I go to bed. I used them briefly for about 10 minutes earlier today but the speaker randomly stopped working a few hours after that.
I think I even heard when the speaker malfunctioned because as I touched the screen the touch sound cut out about half way through, though I thought nothing of it. Only now do I realize that there hasn't been any sound out the speaker since then.
Oh because i had that problem lots of times but its because i had headphones in while i switched the phones off or if it went dead while they were plugged in. Then when i restart the phone without them plugged in the phone still thinks there connected when there not so how i fixed it is that i plugged them in and out really fast. Its worth a try but i doubt it will work in your case

Well nothing I tried worked, so I'm guessing it was a hardware malfunction (my guess is that the speaker blew somehow).
I went back to the store today and they gave me a new S4 with no hassle. Just a little disappointed that I spent all weekend setting it up and customising it and now I have to do it all again.
Heres hoping this one lasts more than 4 days lol.

Two issues that are honestly quite annoying

Firstly I love my Note 3 and if not for these issues it would be a 10/10.
My first issue is that occasionally the phone will freeze up for a few seconds regardless of the app I'm in and will tell me essentially that Samsung Watchon has forceclosed. Happens all the time and I have no idea why.
Secondly when in a call if I put it on speakerphone and leave the phone app to perform other tasks while on the phone the proximity sensor still acts as if it is not on speaker. The screen shuts off if i try to slide down the status bar or something which is quite irritating.
If you guys have any idea what could cause this or how to fix it it would be much appreciated. Gratzi
I have that force close of watchon also

An update????? Nooooooooo! I hope not cause I have my phone just perfect. It is running smoothly and so far the call quality is decent enough for me. I use bluetooth most of the time or my gear.

Well that blows haha. Cmon samsung I expected perfection at that price. Anyways is anyone else experiencing the proximity sensor doing that? It's only once I leave the phone app it starts interfering.

#1 i just setup WatchOn and it stopped because i was having this issue as well. no other apps are causing me issues
#2 i have same problem and its the same with my S4 and also my RAZR HD
as far as an update coming i have frozen SDM.apk and will definitely not be taking any updates until it looks safe for root and possible unlock. i saw a lot of people take the S4 update shortly after release and they were not happy campers
Not only is watchon a buggy POS, it runs in the BG all the time.
That was one of the first things I disabled.
WatchON is kind of useful, I think. I used to get the FC warnings a lot at the beginning, but after running the app and setting it up and adding my TV to the remote devices, I haven't had a problem since.
I had problems with watchON crashing when I opened news stand. But I've since turned it off.
As for the speaker phone I've never had that problem.

1.WatchOn pop up errors stopped after it was set up.
2. You can turn off the proximity sensor during calls if you want in the call settings menu.

ive got the same problem. i believe it is a blue tooth problem.
only happens when i have my bluetooth on. very strange
and yes screen mirroring is off.
Youtube grayed out
I've disabled screen mirroring several times but it activates on its on for whatever reason.
I simply uninstalled the youtube updates and the issue has ceased.
I'll wait for a new youtube update before updating again and hopefully they will have fixed the nagging issue.
What I did was, first turn off bluetooth then open the Youtube App. Finally, turn on bluetooth and use as normal.
