Not able to root galaxy s4 i9500(india) - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys

I have followed most of them (Cofface and PhilZ Touch) but none of these seem to work for me .
I used odin and flased the CWM and i get PASS . The phone reboots , but i do not have root/su.
Please help.
I read somewhere that it is not possible to root the galaxy S4 with the latest firmware .

Hi
I did reboot into CWM but i do not have the option root my phone .
@ jaiDev if i use Autoroot by chainfire , will this install a custom recovery . I want to flash a custom rom later on .
So i need a recovery along with root

U have cwm and I guess u have root just check with root checker
Sent from my GT-I9500

No CF root will not install a custom recovery. It will only root your phone. Just go ahead and use it.

Ok ill try being more clear .
I used CWM and philz touch , to falsh a custom recovery (This also roots your phone) as Per the post .
So i get root + recovery (To back up my rom / flash a new rom).
When i used ODIN to acheive this i get a PASS message . and as per the tutorial i should boot into recovery ( volUp + home + power) and here i should find a option ROOT MY PHONE .( I Do not have this option)
I did use titaniumBackup / root checker to check if root was successful , but it shows that my phone is not rooted .
Basically i want to ROOT and have a custom recovery .
I read the post by chainFire it looks like by using CF-AutoRoot i will only be able to root my phone .
I will have to flash a custom recovery using ODIN Again ( For me to get CWM )
For now i will try ChainFire to root and let you guys know Please let me know if i am still not clear.

I would suggest u post this problem from where u downloaded rooting ur device more than once or just rooting for no reason can harm it.Do not flash anything until someone from that thread tells u.Sometimes its a glitch so wait for the author of that thread or someone else to reply to ur question.

Hey guys , Good News
My phone is finally rooted , used chainFire . Simple and quick
Next step is flashing a CWM . Can some one help me out .
For GT-I9500 after rooting using chainFire , how can i install CWM ?
Thanks A lot

Without ODIN you can't root your phone, unfortunately.
Just flash CF - Root for JVR via ODIN...
thanks buddy .. but this procedure is also ODIn
any particular reason you don't want to use ODIN? I was also warry of using it, but using CF-Root or fuguroot seems to be the 'cleanest' method of rooting your phone currently. There was an APK created by CF, iirc, but that method no longer works on newer builds.
The only solid method of doing it currently is flashing a rooted kernel using Heimdall or Odin. adb exploits like superoneclick don't work anymore...
Not much will go wrong using Odin for just the kernel. Chances of something going wrong are usually when flashing bootloaders and what not.
You could use an insecure kernel if you can find one then superoneclick but that requires flashing too.

Like norbarb said, you can't install a custome recovery follow this:
To root, install Safetrap and flash your rom:
a.If you've used the rootable version to upgrade your firmware you can boot into your device and use towelroot to root it. Towelroot by @geohot can be found here. https://towelroot.com
b.Now download and install chainfire’s supersu apk from the play store, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en
c.Use Safestrap 3.72 as your custom recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925
d.Before installing safestrap go to the play store and install SELinux Mode Changer, grant it root access and change mode to “permissive”, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrbimc.selinux&hl=en
e.Flash your rom and the nc1 module, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=17227 Thanks to guut13
Thanks buds well i used towelroot and know i will see if it works
i will let yall know how it all went down. thanks.

[Q] As a first timer on samsung what do i need to do ?

Hey guys i just bought this international exynos note 3 (N900) and i have some questions about it ;
1. I want to install all the roms kernels and mods i could find but in order to do that (I'm %100 stock btw) ,do i need to first unlock the device ( i dont know how i couldnt find it), then root it with CF- Auto root( my warranty is over so i dont need to think about KNOX i think??) Then use the dd method to flash a recovery and flash whatever i want. Am i right about the things i said on all above ? Is there an easier way to do it ?
2. Do KNOX ever prevents me from flashing things in ODIN if something gets triggered ?
3. If i am not right about the first question starting from %100 stock what do i need to do to get this baby rockin ? I'm thinking about flashing a stock lollipop rom with a custom kernel and root ofc. Any suggestions ?
4. Do we need to flash modems from odin ? Because when reading the AryaMods thread i saw something about updating the modem. I'm on 4.4.2 right now. Can we flash modems or even kernels from recovery ?
Thanks already!!

There is no much of roms to choose for this one. 9005 is most supported here.
Root using cf auto root.
Make back up of ta partion/imei.
Flash recovery with odin. Then flash roms in twrp (watch the ere about how to use twrp or YT).
flash stock roms using odin.
Can't i just flash recovery from odin then flash a custom rom after that without rooting ? Thanks!

If you are going to flash roms based on lollipop, update your phone to latest stock rom for your model using odin so you get latest bootloader.
Dude, you need root access to access system and write to it. Don't custom roms require root, if you take a look? (don't answer to this [emoji61] )
If you want that way, flash twrp with ? odin. Then flash supersu for your model using twrp. That way too you get root. Then flash roms after (read rom instructions).
Ask if all wondering. ?

No my question was; not rooting the device in the first place before flashing the recovery and the rom. The roms already comes with the root in it. So just to be clear first upgrade the base to lollipop from odin then flash a recovery and lastly flash a lollipop rom. Would this be your sequence when you just bought a new note 3 ?

Flash latest firmware then custom recovery then flash the custom rom of your choice. No need to root after flash official firmware but it's good to root first as you may want to backup efs before you start messing the phone. I backed up the efs for the past 1.5years but so far never need it.

did you check whether its properly Rooted using SU or Root checker?
Also not all Kitkat compatible Xposed modules are working with Lollipop (esp in Touchwiz)
And what recovery have you installed to flash ROM?
i checked it with root checker app get it through play store... it shows my device is rooted but still i am not able to install omega rom. i rood my mobile with ( CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900) with odin BASEBAND N900DDUEBOB1. & STILL IT SHOWS STOCK RECOVERY MODE.
You need to flash recovery separately.
If you read instructions in CF Auto Root, they'd have mentioned as Outcomes as (Root + Stock Recovery)
Flash TWRP or Philz after that

If you can boot into the rom you can flash it with the TWRP manager app from the play store.
Or you can use the app Flashify to flash the recovery.img.
