One-handed option greatly reduces benchmark scores - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

For those that still find benchmarking programs and scores interesting, in these days when we're all carrying supercomputers around with us, I noticed something on my Note 3 this morning.
I had accidentally left the option "Settings> Controls>One-handed operation> Use for all screens" enabled after playing around with the various One-handed operations stuff a couple of days ago.
This morning, I bought the latest version of Geekbench (3) and was running both it and Geekbench 2 and uploading my results. When I compared my GB2 results with other similar devices in Primate Labs' online results browser, my results were about 50% slower.
After a fairly exhaustive revisit to all my system settings, I was able to pinpoint the culprit as the "Use for all screens" setting in the One-handed section of Settings.
Just thought some would find this interesting.

Agreed. I was seeing mid to low 20s on antutu. Turned off that feature and I get around 35k.

Ultimate Battery Tweak - think I've cracked it!

Just finished my latest raft of battery saving tweaks for my rooted s3 and here are the results.
I consider myself a medium user and managed to get 54 hours off my last charge. Interested to see how other people's experiences match up to mine.

Look at your Awake and Screen on times.
Might as well leave your mobile untouched for 2.5 days.
What matters is screen on time, not how long between charges, if you only use your phone for 5 mins a day you will wait a long time between charges. I can get 4 hours screen time which is decent (That's 4 hours in one day) So in theory if I use my phone for 1 hour a day I should get 4 days usage out of it.
All it shows is you don't use your phone much, show me a screen time of more than 6 hours and I will check out the battery tweak in use (as long as I can still use my phone)
Ok will post my screen on time stats from my next charge, pretty sure it's more than six hours.

What's the point of having these devices if you'll use them like regular phones. I see no apps in your battery details. Obviously you're unlocking your device only for phone calls and swiping between screens and app drawer because of boredom.
Better to get a nokia 3310 and never care about battery again...
There you go Delsus just got home from a day out onsite plus the commute back & forth - 8 hours screen on time.

Cool, so what exactly is your "tweak"?
The second image is "screen on time" though
later edit:
one more,but not mine.
when i will have time i will try to see how much "screen on" i can reach (although i can reach 8 hours of text reading, i doubt that i will reach that playing NOVA.)

there is also another topic where we have shared our tweaks using Stweaks.

then share with us ur tweak
i am currently using Null 15.1 with siyah kernel
i used to let my Wifi on the whole time to test it and with screen on + downloads time to time..
Max time :8hrs
Min time : 7hrs.
A bit of background I use my phone for work & spend alot of time away from a power supplier (either a plug socket or my car charger) & was finding my battery was fried within about 4 hours of constant use.
By researching & implementing battery tweaks (which don't affect the performance of my phone) and I've managed to get it up to 8 hours.
I'd be happy to post my battery tweaks for others to use, what I'm interested in is other user's experiences to benchmark against.

The problem is a lot of noobs post junk or badly researched / bench marked stuff .or even exact same battery life posts week after week . We have three identical topics in the first three pages of General as it is .
Hence regular users are cynics after all it is a developers forum not some childish fix my phone look at my quadrant forum .
Well researched logical topics don't get attacked .

Finally some members with a modicum of common sense. Yes will post a full list of apps & settings when I get home this evening.
FYI although my background is in Linux based sysadmin I've not gone seriously 'under the hood' merely used apps that are properly configured & applied system tweaks via root.

i can get up to 9 hours screen on time while reading e-books (wattpad) and a few texts using whatsapp though with wifi on and still have 10% juice left with 11-12 hours of battery usage:silly: is that count as having a superb battery life? just curious though

Left side getting warm?

I've had my Tab 7.7 a day now, and i've noticed that the left hand side gets warm just sat there in sleep mode? Is ths due to the wifi being on all the time? Any fixes?
This is most often due to high cpu load. Go to settings, battery and check if some program is hogging your cpu.

I just ran an Antutu test which does thrash the cpu I expect... And afterward it was warm on the left side. Weird if it does it in sleep mode though. Tell us what u found out..

[Q] Nexus 4 Heating and Battery Issues

Hello so I bought my N4 on the Dec 3 batch and got it around Feb, the works fine and all but I have 2 main questions
1. The phone gets hot doing simple tasks like browsing the web or watching a youtube video. I am running the CM 10.1 Nightlies and Franco's Kernel r110. Sometimes the phone can get really hot which I then stop using it to prevent any damage. Does this have anything to do with the Custom ROM or kernel because my friend's N4 is stock and unrooted and hes doesn't have any heat issues.
2. The battery on the phone is not what I expected. I hear people who get 4-5 hours on screen time, but I get around 2-2.5. Also I am on a Canadian provider which is Mobilicity if that has anything to do with it. I leave 3G on mostly and just surf the web when the screen is on.
Thanks for any input you guys leave.
If you can take it back to stock and don't root because that is why your friend's N4 is normal besides what more do you want that the N4 doesn't have?

I like the root features and also cm 10.1 if its the ROM that's making it overheat then I know to change or find a better one

Hi,
As always "overheating" is very subjective, it depends on how you feel the heat.
CPU / battery temperature?
In any case there is a protection, a thermal throttling. At certain CPU / battery temperatures the CPU frequence is automatically lowered to help reduce the temperature. In extreme temperature the phone shutdown to avoid damages so no worries.
In 3G the phone heated a little more, no problem here that the phone heats up when you re browsing or you're watching a video on Youtube.
You can try to undervolt a little to see if that helps.
As for battery life it depends on too many factors... CPU settings, screen brightness, signal quality, etc...
Search about your questions in this section or in the General section, there are lots of threads about it.
What temperature does your phone actually get? When running stock it would be impossible to see my phone get other 43c and that was only under very heavy gaming but would usually be at 32-36c ive noticed my phone does get hotter when using mobile data instead of wifi. Now running rasbean with franco m1 and temps abit lower gaming has improved greatly but i dont think there is any difference in battery life compared to stock but your 2-2.5 screen time does seem abit low as i get with just web browsing maybe few youtube vids and few minutes of games around 4 hours screen time but i also envy those who are getting 5+ hours
---------- Post added at 11:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:30 AM ----------
Forgot to mention thats 4 hours on wifi on mobile internet i should be able 2 get over 3 hours
The phone gets hot very easily in my opinion idk the exact temp but I have the ringke slim on it and its definitely noticeable from the top of the phone to the bottom. Also does my carrier have anything to do with it because brightness on my phone is pretty low and simple stuff tends to drain my battery.

When i was using a case on my phone it was getting hot from top to bottom but now i don't use case it doesn't get as hot and usually stays cooler at bottom half. I have found most accurate way to check your battery temp is by going on call and dialling *#*#4636#*#* and a hidden menu will come up and tap battery information you will see temp, there was an app that had same info but cant remember name so when you think its hot dial that code and let me know what temp it shows. Also are you using mobile internet or wifi when its getting hot?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I think it usually gets hot when using 3G so I'm assuming mobilicity isn't that good for this phone? Also I can clearly tell its the top part that is hot when the case is on
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yep mine also gets noticeably hotter on 3g and yeah it gets hot at the top but after a while will spread to bottom to thats normal. I am currently running rasbean rom with franco milestone 1 and also downloaded pimp my rom from play it has various tweaks and mods so i just flashed battery saving which supposed to help with battery not sure what it does though lol but i managed to get 3 hours 40 mins screen time half of time it was on minimum brightness and other half on 40% was just internet browsing and im sure you will agree that is very good considering i was using 3g the whole time
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Just an update you should try undervolting on franco as i have now done it and it definitely helps with heating and i am pretty sure it has vastly improved my battery life if your interested i will post the values i have used which seems to be perfectly stable so far
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Yes please, do I need any app for this or can I just do it in the settings?
do you have the franco app? As that was what i used to change my setting if yes just go on frequencies/voltages go down to voltages and change from there i have attached screenshot of my setting and make you do not set voltages on boot as if it is unstable your phone is not going to boot up if that is ticked, you will have to change that everytime you reboot until you are sure its stable then u can set on boot
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Do you have a bad signal? Because if so then that will drain your battery a lot more quickly and also possibly make the phone heat up more.

Swype accuracy on S4

Anyone noticed this or is it my fingers? I have been using Swype on my last 3 phones since the alpha was first released. I can't say that I had 100% accuracy but compared to my s3 which I abandoned 1,5 months ago, I can say that word recognition accuracy dropped to 50% if it was on s3 around 80%.
Here are some examples:
Word - Weird
Other - Otter
Worse - Wise
For - fur , fir
That - tat
Plus many otter cases. I know that if I try several times at much slower speed, I will succeed but I have to do it reeerally slow.

I agree...

I reported it to them and they said they see no issue at all and that I should uninstall/reinstall.
However I believe it has to do with the new HD display of s4. I think they have to tweak their algorithm in regards to hd display but they should know better. Sometimes I'm about to abandon it but something tells me to give some more time

Benchmark Issue

I just got my new phone today. It seems to be working ok, but I ran a couple of benchmarks on it and they're WAY below what I've seen on reviews, so I'm concerned that there's something wrong with my phone.
Geekbench 714/2810
Antutu 41961
Does anyone have benchmarks to compare these to? Thoughts on why they're so low? I tried a factory reset, but no help.
Maybe you could try to upgrade to the latest version (if you haven't done yet).
In my knowledge, I remember that when i ran a test on my Nexus 5, sometimes it got around 23000 and other 33000. It depends on what software i were running.
Run benchmark when phone is totally cold
Put it to the fridge for 10mins and then try

Your timing is perfect. I just did that and the scores are more of what I'd expect. 58000 in Antutu for instance. So there's definitely thermal throttling going on.

I'm still hoping mine isn't defective. A heat sync not attached right in there or something.
I wouldn't worry.
Mine benchmarks quite low as well.
Although we all got the same cpus, they vary. One throttles quicker than another.
Nothing to notice in everyday usage
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Free mobile app
That's really interesting! I got 46000, a couple of times, then put it in the fridge as suggested. Ended up being 20mins as I forgot it was in there..!! Then it did a 61000. Definitely prefers being cold and not throttling.
