Ultimate Battery Tweak - think I've cracked it! - Galaxy S III General

Just finished my latest raft of battery saving tweaks for my rooted s3 and here are the results.
I consider myself a medium user and managed to get 54 hours off my last charge. Interested to see how other people's experiences match up to mine.

Look at your Awake and Screen on times.
Might as well leave your mobile untouched for 2.5 days.

What matters is screen on time, not how long between charges, if you only use your phone for 5 mins a day you will wait a long time between charges. I can get 4 hours screen time which is decent (That's 4 hours in one day) So in theory if I use my phone for 1 hour a day I should get 4 days usage out of it.
All it shows is you don't use your phone much, show me a screen time of more than 6 hours and I will check out the battery tweak in use (as long as I can still use my phone)

Ok will post my screen on time stats from my next charge, pretty sure it's more than six hours.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

What's the point of having these devices if you'll use them like regular phones. I see no apps in your battery details. Obviously you're unlocking your device only for phone calls and swiping between screens and app drawer because of boredom.
Better to get a nokia 3310 and never care about battery again...

There you go Delsus just got home from a day out onsite plus the commute back & forth - 8 hours screen on time.

Cool, so what exactly is your "tweak"?

The second image is "screen on time" though
later edit:
one more,but not mine.
when i will have time i will try to see how much "screen on" i can reach (although i can reach 8 hours of text reading, i doubt that i will reach that playing NOVA.)

then share with us ur tweak

i am currently using Null 15.1 with siyah kernel
i used to let my Wifi on the whole time to test it and with screen on + downloads time to time..
Max time :8hrs
Min time : 7hrs.

A bit of background I use my phone for work & spend alot of time away from a power supplier (either a plug socket or my car charger) & was finding my battery was fried within about 4 hours of constant use.
By researching & implementing battery tweaks (which don't affect the performance of my phone) and I've managed to get it up to 8 hours.
I'd be happy to post my battery tweaks for others to use, what I'm interested in is other user's experiences to benchmark against.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app

The problem is a lot of noobs post junk or badly researched / bench marked stuff .or even exact same battery life posts week after week . We have three identical topics in the first three pages of General as it is .
Hence regular users are cynics after all it is a developers forum not some childish fix my phone look at my quadrant forum .
Well researched logical topics don't get attacked .

Completely normal. Looks exactly how mine (and my other 4 Galaxy S2's) battery consumption looked.
There's threads open regarding battery issues already pal
You had your screen on for most of that 7-8 hour period, and the phone was awake, doing something. This is totally normal.
How come some say their battery lasts 15 - 20 hours and mine bearly 8 ?
Does yours always hit on the back like mine does ?

Becuase your phone was in use for a lot of that time.
Normally I get 7-10 hours battery life with my semi-heavy usage.
But yesterday I tested to see if I could get more, I only used the phone for four 5 minute phone calls, tonnes of texts, a little bit of web browsing and a little bit of youtube on 3G and wifi. No games or anything, and the battery still had 40% left after 20 1/2 hours.
But with my normal usage as i said, I get 7 - 10 hours.

wow that is exactly what I am doing now too
was charging twice a day for a week and finally got tired. limited my heavy-graphics gaming from 2-3 hours a day to half hour, now 16 and a half hours past charge, I have 5% left and I am starting to think "how the heck do I discharge to 1% quicker so I have time to charge before I leave work tonight"
I have gmail and exchange in push autosync, plus 2 screens of widgets that refresh (weather, news, calendar and mail), 15 minutes of calls, some texts, news reading, picture taking and viewing. Screen was on for 3 hours in this 16.5 hour period.

Unless you are chilling around all day a foot away from a fireplace, this is not normal. It means something is constantly running on the phone and is using the CPU heavily. If you screen is on, it also heats up. Lower screen brightness if you have the screen on for long periods of time.
and if it is rogue apps running in the background, eating CPU cycles - do a factory reset as someone already suggested, and then set up your phone anew, carefully avoiding CRAPWARE and BLOATWARE services and apps.
Started with a fresh load this morning at 5.30 am, working continously with my SGSII, downloaded apps etc., twice clearing with android booster still half batt left when typing this.....

Astounding Battery Life

I can't believe just how good this battery is on this phone. Last night I couldn't be bothered putting it on charge, I was too tired. This is not light usage, I've been texting a lot and been on the phone for about 30 minutes, I just made sure I closed applications I didn't need and cleared the RAM a few times. I could probably get longer than this without Wi-Fi and Mobile Data!

here are the following things that will improve battery life
1. mobile data and wifi all off. turn it on only when you use it.
2. dark wallpaper background.
3. turn on powersaving. < let's take his word for it,he said he doesn't use power-saving mode. imagine if he'd use it, he says.
4. 15sec screen timeout.
5. sync off
6. freeze non-essential apps that are running in background.
7. silent mode all the time.
8. brightness set to the really lowest setting that you are comfortable with.
9. turn off all motion
10. turn off s-voice and voice command for apps
11. disable vibrate
12. disable smart stay. this runs @ 1.4ghz everytime it checks.
13 fast dormancy on/off depending on your network
other things you can also do and like the rest can't be seen with screenshot
both of these possible using custom kernels. < don't worry he says he's using stock.
14. underclock and undervolt cpu and gpu. may not be that much but if you have the impulse to brag and crush us with your knowledge then every percent of battery saved is important no matter how minute.
15. force single core
16. sgs3 that has snapdragon instead of intl version. < don't worry he said he's using intl version.
AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST:
17. DISABLE AIRPLANE MODE WHEN TAKING SCREENSHOT TO BRAG AND CRUSH US WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT NOBODY WILL NOTICE YOU REALLY ARE USING AIRPLANE MODE ALL THE TIME AND ONLY TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU WANT TO CALL OR TEXT SOMEONE OR RECEIVE CALL AND TEXT FROM EVERYONE.
YOU CAN ALL SEE IT FROM HIS SCREENSHOT MOBILE NETWORK SIGNAL MORE THAN HALF OF IT IS BLANK MEANING NO SIGNAL.
EVEN ON THE LAST PART OF THE MOBILE NETWORK SIGNAL WHERE IT'S STILL BLANK MEANING HE JUST INDEED JUST TURNED OFF AIRPLANE MODE TO TAKE THE SCREENSHOT TO HIDE WHAT HE'S REALLY DOING TO CONFUSE OTHERS.
HE DID MENTION ON HIS TIP THE AIRPLANE MODE, BUT HIS BEING MUM ABOUT AIRPLANE MODE WHEN ASKED BY PEOPLE HOW HE DOES HIS "CRUSHING KNOWLEDGE" OF BATTERY LIFE AND NOT MENTIONING ON ALL HIS POSTS BRAGGING HIS BATTERY LIFE THAT HE'S ALWAYS ON AIRPLANE MODE AND THE FACT HE TURNED OFF AIRPLANE MODE DURING THE SCREENSHOT JUST SHOWS HE'S AN ATTENTION WHORL.
:victory:
http://s8.postimage.org/e8asy2cn9/CRUSHYOUWITHMYKNOWLEDGE.jpg
normal people use phones like that.yeah right, if they do mobile network signal should be green most of the time not full of blanks like that wherein we are crushed by his knowledge.
people buy phones to use them as phones TO HAVE MOBILE NETWORK SIGNAL so that they can be called and messaged also, they don't buy phones so they can brag about on screen time and calling it crushing them with your knowledge at the same time.
if you all want real battery life using a phone as a phone meaning mobile network signal is always green thus no airplane mode,
the real honest results for stock rom international s3 no underclock/undervolt no power-saving
basing on many honest posters feedback is about:
1 day + 1to5hrs on battery
with
on screen time of 4hours30mins to 5hours
with at least 10% battery remaining.
pushing it to 5% battery remaining or even to the point you can already see exclamation point on the battery icon you could reach 6hours+
blah blah blah no Air plane mode either. blah blah blah
see?
yeah right!no airplane mode my az. your screenshot having no mobile network signal almost 100% of the time shows otherwise.
if you didn't use airplane mode in your school where you have bad reception, the phone constantly trying to find network signal will drain its battery more we know it won't last.

1. a thread about battery life showed up, he was the first respondent.
2. he was first respondent because he was very very eager to "crush with his knowledge" any op with battery life topic and claim another victory for him.
3. he sacrificed 4 days and 16hours of his life so he can "crush us all with his knowledge"
4. screen on time is 15%. so 4days16hours or 112 hours, 15percent of that is 16hours. so you buy a phone that you only use not even for a day in a span of 4 days.
omfg we are so crushed by that kind of knowledge.we're not worthy.

Regarding battery life

Hello
Long time Hero user who switched to blackberry and now back to android. I've had note 2 for 3 months now and I'm actually disappointed from its battery level. Not that its not enough. .it just didnt live up to its expectations
Through constant whatsapp messaging only (today) 40% drained in 7-8 hours. . I know its a long time but shouldn't it last longer or is 3g that much of a battery usage?
Also does charging with a 2a non official charger might affect my battery? And with the time frames I have available for charging I can never get a full charge. .does that matter?
And is pile stocking on applications and games affecting my battery? Even if they are not open? (Currently using go power master for that)

You can click on that little chart to see a more detailed view of your battery consumption. Your battery life is a bit on the short side (compared to mine at least), Im guessing the screen is the culprit. Do you have brightness all the way down? How much screen time does the phone get?
@Shei77
For me is battery consumption pretty fine. It depends of course what I am doing with the phone through the day. For example yesterday after whole day "playing" with phone from time to time I had around 70%. I am chargin it when I go to sleep because still if I have in the morning 30-50% it wont make it through day when I dont have option to charge it. Just to add, I have Wifi and GPS always on.
If constant messaging for 7-8 hours means the screen being on for 7ish hours, you have ridiculously good battery life at 40 percent..

As shown from your screenshot your phone signals are really bad. That might be contributing to the drain of the battery.
I think your battery life is fine :good: Usually with my note 2 i can do 4 display hours and 1 day or more of battery life. 3g/h+ always on, lumi 50% all sync on, calls, gaming and web.
This is the current on screen which is a few hours after the first screenshots
What can I do about signals? And if I have a lot of apps do they consume battery through background?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Really, your battery life isn't that bad. The 7 or so screen time hours you'll get if that continues, is pretty good!
And to your other questions, charger type doesn't affect battery performance. Charging time should take around 2,5 hours from 0 to 100, if you're far away from that, the charger might be at fault.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Charging usually takes 3 hours for a full charge and according to my charging current its using 1698mah

^No offence, but without screen on time a battery stats is just meaningless!
So kindly post your 'Screen on' time.
@shei77: You're on H+ and you're having almost three hours screen on time, with 60 odd percent left. That is very good battery life.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
Maybe a bit OT, but what I have noticed is that when the phone reports fully charged, Elixir widget still displays 1600mA being charged into the device? Also, when the battery is full at 100%, the phone is still pretty warm! I don;t remember my HTC did that? It was warm, but when it reached 100% it cooled down and was not hot anymore... I tend to keep phone in charger in the evening because I use wifi hotspot....
My battery life is awesome I'm on cm 10.1 rom with uneak kernel, cm 10.1 is smooth and great performance and great on battery life,
I have attached a screen shot of battery stats...

Battery problems...

Hi I have searched all over for a solution. Most point to 3rd party apps and wakelocks but I don't think these are the case because I am not losing battery while it is turned off. Today the only thing I used my phone for was browsing the internet and I still only got 2 hours of screen on, which is still better than usual. When I use my phone regularly I only get around 1 hour. I am on PAC ROM and Faux's kernel. And also sometimes it gets hot but not as much as it used to.
Here is some pictures of my battery.

wow, chrome is a HUGE drain!
im a heavy browser user, heavy user user generally too. the aosp browser never drains(ed) that much, ever, no matter how much i used it. on average, i get about 3.5-5 hours screen on time, depending how i used the phone for that day. maybe its time for you to use a different browser or try a different rom/kernel.
Try using greenify , your battery stats look normal to me. If your using your phone in a bright area its going to kill your battery faster, and if your screen is doing that its going to make your phone hot. Using it in direct sunlight will kill your battery very fast.

Thanks I did not know that. I was in the sun quite a bit, even though I kept the brightness as low as I could. And also I do use greenify which does help.

Man get back to stock rom and kernel. Give it a day. Still if it doesnt...then set for safe mode and try. I must solve the problems.
