Samsung Product Road Map - New Screens are Huge

Here's the discussion of phones...
Meanwhile, in phones, the GT-I9250 is probably the most exciting. It’s said to have a 4.65-inch 1280 x 720 resolution display and a 5-megapixel camera, and run Ice Cream Sandwich on an unspecified processor which, we’re guessing, will be a dual-core. Its sibling, the GT-I9220, is even bigger, with a MID-rivaling 5.29-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED Plus panel, a dual-core 1.4GHz processor, 8-megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The rumored 1.4GHz GT-I9200 upgrade to the Galaxy S II isn’t mentioned, but the I9210 gets a look-in, with a 4.5-inch 800 x 480 touchscreen, 4G connectivity and an 8-megapixel camera. There’s also supposedly WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, Full HD video recording support and a 1750 mAh battery, all in an Android-running 128g package.
The description of the 4.5" phone could be the Celox that was leaked a few days ago. I guess big is in.

After Careful Analysis of Trends and Rumors, here is what I think of the S3 / Note 2!

Well, after cross-referencing other sources, it is very well likely for the below specifications to appear on new models this year. Applicable to S3 and Note 2. - Cheers!
Next Month Samsung will be announcing who knows, how many new devices. One of the expected models is the Galaxy S3 and possibly, Note 2.
I can say the S3 will have the following after doing a careful analysis of trends and rumors,
4.5" SAMOLED HD Pentile or RGB/Plus Display with 3D (also known as Super AMOLED III) with 1280x720 Resolution, Lotus Glass
1.5 GHz Quad Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 4412 with Mali T604)
2gb LPDDR2, DDR2 or DDR3 Ram (Dual Channel)
16 or 12 Megapixel Lens Rear Camera (Samsung Technology)
3.2 Megapixel Front Camera with Face Detection
16gb or 32gb Built in Memory Expandable up to 64GB
Bluetooth 4.0
Built In NFC
Ice Cream Sandwich
2000mAh Battery
HzO Technology--water-proof technology
ETA--Late Spring, 2012
Who wants to bet?!
I can say the Note 2 will have the following after doing a careful analysis of trends and rumors,
5.3" SAMOLED HD Pentile Display with 3D (also known as Super AMOLED III) with 1280x800 Resolution, Lotus Glass
1.8 GHz Quad Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 4412 with Mali T604) or 2.0GHz Dual Core Processor 32nm (Exynos 5250 with Mali T604)
2gb LPDDR2, DDR2 or DDR3 Ram
16 or 12 Megapixel Lens Rear Camera (Samsung Technology)
3.2 Megapixel Front Camera with Face Detection
16gb or 32gb Built in Memory Expandable up to 64GB
Bluetooth 4.0 (or possibly 5.0)
USB 3.0
Built In NFC
Ice Cream Sandwich
2750mAh Battery
HzO Technology--water-proof technology
ETA: mid-Summer, 2012

A 4.5" inch screen is more probable. I agree.
Well, a possible release date of Jelly Bean has yet to be confirmed. And if released in August this year, this certainly will not be in the Note 2. Jelly Bean will first arrive in Nexus 4 and it will take developers a few weeks to overlay their UI's on newer models
Touchwiz 5.0 is obvious for new devices coming out with ICS, so no need to include that in the specifications. Existing S2 and and Note will have ICS soon, but with the existing Touchwiz 4.0 interface.
16MP looks promising since sensors were already introduced late last year, Oct. 2011
Battery seems to be appropriate for the S2, since the battery compartment size will be able accommodate larger batteries due to the .2" inch increase in screen size.
3D may or may not appear. What remains suspicious is how Samsung decided to refer their new AMOLED displays as SAMOLED 3. HEY, YOU NEVER KNOW!
HzO is a possibility, but seeing that Samsung has to shell extra money out of their pockets puts this feature into question.
2GB will be able to accommodate more processes to run in the background, and since the CPU will be bumped, 2GB doesn't look like too much.
The Exynos 5250 (A15) that you are referring to may be featured in Phablets and or Tablets. This we will have to wait and see.
I think a lot of these updates are obvious, so as the clock ticks, we sit down and think.
Just dreams

What analysis? Have you been tracking CPU developments and historical lead times for flagship phones? Very cool if you have been.
Upgrading S3 to Nexus size makes sense. But 2.0ghz is a big jump. Is that equivelant rank/cost of 1.2ghz when S2 was new?
Note 2 going quad... well of ALL the phones on the market this would make most sense. Note should be first with Quad.
2GB sounds nice but doesn't smell right. I hope my phone doesn't turn into a bloated POS like windows that needs 1GB RAM and 1GHz CPU just to run!
3d... who knows. If they think it will make them money then sure. They are using all their ammo on Apple and not saving stuff till later like many companies often do. Let's hope they make it as good as they can and save nothing for the S4 / Note2 ;-)

Sad, but true, I have been following the CPU development and historical lead times of flagship phones in a way that presents itself more practically.
It would sound logical to bump the speed to 2.0 GHz since Exynos 4210 can be overclocked to 1.8 GHz stable. Samsung comfortably bumped the Note to 1.4GHz--gives every reason to believe another speed bump is likely for later flagship phones from the company.
I wouldn't be surprised though, if Samsung made USB 3.0 debut on the Galaxy Note 2. There are initial reports that USB 3.0 will be introduced in mobile phones later this year. If the Note 2 releases in Early Fall, then there is time for Samsung to make changes to its PCB diagram in order to accommodate USB 3.0

I would bet, but that would be just stealing your money.
1) No 3D... Sorry Samsung hasn't committed to it and WILL NOT until 3D actually matures
2) HzO is possible... but highly IMPROBABLE. Why would Samsung cut out of its own Profits for something that isn't quite necessary in the 2012 year ??
3) Battery sizes are way off. The SGSII should be lower (~2,000mAh) and NOTE2 should be higher (~3,000mAh) from my estimates
4) Camera performance is wrong. Samsung makes the best lenses in any smartphone (besides Nokia) but they do so in small increments to just match the competition and not completely overwhelm them. 12MP is what will be released.
5) 2GB RAM is way too much. Its just a waste of resources. I am telling you now that it will still be 1GB RAM or 1.5GB, nothing more.
6) Processors. Samsung has proven this last two releases to be superior to the competition but not by a large margin. 2012 will see tricore and quadcore A9's and possibly a dual-A15 before the years end.
Quadcore makes no sense for Android.
Tricore is much better (same performance, better battery life).
But the chip makers are not making any tricores, so indeed the SIII will have a Quadcore A9.
The NOTE successor (if there's one in the works) should get a beefier Quadcore A9, otherwise it will be one of the first to get the next-gen A15 chip.
7) SGSIII won't have a 4.65in screen. That would inflate the device's body larger than the SII. I think a more modest 4.5in screen will arrive.
8) You failed to mention OS, which is just as important as those specs. Obviously the SIII and NOTE2 will come with ICS. But Samsung is making a new version of TouchWizz (v5) which may debut on the NOTE2 (if your lucky on the S3). Remember Android 5.0 JellyBean will be out around August bringing a few "Groundbreaking" features that were left out from ICS.
I like your ideas, they would make a good successor but you don't know this industry that well.
Have you noticed the shift from Nexus One to Nexus S?
-much more polished, fluid, easy experience but not really an upgrade compared to the competition (eg Galaxy S)
Or the shift from Nexus S to Galaxy Nexus?
-modest upgrade but a SII is still in the same league and the NOTE is superior to what is suppposed to be "Androids best".
I will post a more accurate description of the successors (if any) soon.

Some of your points I agree with; some I do not know enough about to comment on. This one however I disagree with. It's true that 2GB would be a waste of resources given the current demands of Android and common apps, but in the consumer electronics and computing industries they don't always go on what a device needs.
External platter-based hard drives do not need USB 3.0. LCD TVs do not need ridiculous 600Hz refresh rates. If it costs very little to increase the hardware to a level where they can market it further, that's often enough for them to do it. RAM is so cheap to manufacture right now that it wouldn't surprise me if they did start using 2GB or even more in Android phones. That's not to say it will happen; just that the fact it would be a waste doesn't mean it won't.

I'm sure if 3D is implemented, there will be an option to disable / enable it. Not a biggie, lol. I think the chances of 3D is 60/40.

Those points I agree with, you should update the OP (first post).
I also want to add:
-At 4.5in the SIII will have the same phsyical size as the SII since the Navigation buttons will be replaced with the on-screen ones
-There's new additional features for the SIII (LTE, NFC, Barometre, etc etc) which also takes up space in the phone
-Therefore, the increase in battery capacity will be limited to current technology (which is why 2,000mAh seems more plausible)
-Note: it doesn't cost much to bump 2AH to 2.3AH material wise, but it costs much more for the machines that make those batteries to properly stack the cloth of lithium.
-Apple and Samsung are direct competitors for cameras. They both try to match each others specs (not to surpass it). The difference in performance of 16MP and 12MP isn't much different but as a marketing tool it is.
Samsung has many lenses 0.3MP, 1.3MP, 2MP, 3.2MP, 5MP, 8MP, 12MP, 14.1MP, 16MP, 17.3MP for mobile devices.
So marketing wise, Samsung is more poised to choose a 12MP rear lens.
We know the SIII will be released before the NOTE2, and the fact that NOTE is supposed to be a beefier and larger version of Galaxy S.

Thing is, if the A15 performs as well as ARM claims, a dual core 2.0GHz Exynos 5250 should handily outperform a quad-core Tegra 3 (at the current 1.3GHz multicore speed) in CPU related tasks, in addition to being cheaper to manufacture and much much easier on power (28nm die size)
A15 is supposed to be 40% faster than A9 at the same clock speed, and the 5250 is being launched at 2.0GHz, which would give it TWICE the performance of the current N7000 Note (or Tab 7.7), CPU-wise.
That's not what I'd consider "low-end" for 2012.
^^^ I'd figure since Samsung plans to refresh its entire Galaxy Range of Products
5250 won't appear in devices 'till late this year--probably Q3
Unless Samsung makes an ultra-portable camera (smaller than compact) for mass market then 16MP that was introduced late last year, is reasonable for such a thing. However, since 16MP sensor is intended for mobile devices, and Samsung is already ready to put forward this to mass production-- chances are, we might see this in high-end devices this year, regardless. Just a thought...

[RUMOR] Sony to release Snapdragon 600 device in mid summer

We have received word of a new Sony Xperia C670X handset that is due to launch this summer. The information comes from a tipster who recently provided us with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean screenshot for the Xperia Z. Obviously, as with any rumour, treat all of the following with a pinch of salt.
In terms of specifications, the Sony C670X is expected to come with a slightly smaller display than the Xperia Z (C660X) at 4.8-inches but will still have a full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920. The C670X will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T) chipset with 1.8GHz quad-core processor and Adreno 320 graphics. Other features include 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a 13MP Exmor RS camera. We are told the phone is due to launch in the middle of 2013 with Android 4.2.
Along with all of this spec information, we were sent a render of the Sony C670X. We cannot tell from the picture if the C670X has a heavy glass influence like the Xperia Z or uses aluminium. Judging from the render, the ear speaker is similar in style to the Z/ZL. It looks like the top of the phone includes a front-facing camera , notification light, light sensor and proximity sensor.
Given that the expected release is still a number of months away, the design may end up changing prior to launch. This is perhaps why there are no app icons in the display area, the render only shows the latest Xperia wallpaper. Anyway, that’s all we have for now. As mentioned before, treat all of this firmly as a rumour.
Update: The image sent over is the same as used in the set up guide for the Xperia Z, despite it clearly not being a picture of the Xperia Z. So either this Sony render is a generic placeholder image used when setting up a new 2013 Sony Xperia handset or it is indeed an image of an upcoming handset that Sony has inadvertently used in the Xperia Z. [Thanks Kihoon!]

If Sony released a Xperia SP successor, how would you want it to be?

Imagine that Sony asks you, Xperia SP user, to give them ideas for the Xperia SP successor. Which features, design elements and name would you propose? Remember, Xperia SP is a mid range phone (or high-mid range), so don't lose control with your suggestions!
I would suggest: Xperia ZP.
Spec-wise, it would have:
-Snapdragon 600 with Adreno 320 GPU.
-2GBs of RAM (1.5GBs sounds more logical though)
-13mpx camera with flash, 1Mpx front camera (or 8mpx rear camera as long as it's as high quality as the one on Xperia P)
-4.6" HD IPS screen
For the design, I would like something between Xperia P (which I love) and Z1 compact, so it would be a minimalistic phone made mostly out of aluminum, but with the shape of the Z1 compact. Also, why not make it water-proof? As it seems to be the trend nowadays.
Anyways, share your thoughts. Remember, keep it real! (That means no 4K displays, 3GBs of RAM or Snapdragon 805 >_> ).
Ilumination bar must be /!/
Easy:
Like the Sony Xperia ZL but with Illumination bar and high end specs

1)It would have the same SoC just to lower the price
2)8mp camera with a better lens
3)1.2mp front camera and not that crappy vga camera we have
4)2500mAh battery
5)1.5GB ram
6)8GB internal with a sd card slot
5)5" True HD IPS screen with better viewing angles
6)A led illumination strip all around the phone(party )
And the best...
software support from Sony

Well everything can be done except the last one
- 5" 1080p display
- IPS+
- Same GPU
- Same CPU
- 2GB of RAM (A MUST)
- 2 MPx front camera
- 12 MPx rear camera
- 16GB internal memory + SD card slot
- Pure aluminium Exo skeleton rather than co-moulded (Plastic combined with aluminium)

:good: This sounds like something that can be done (minus the software ).
I personally would like them to kill the illumination bar...or at least make it smaller, it takes too much space from the phone and makes it bigger than what it should be.

This sounds great too, minus the 5" 1080p. In my opinion, this resolution will be a thing for mid rangers next year, when Quad HD become more common on high end phones. And maybe it's just me, but 5" is way too big for me...unless they make as compact as an ZL.
Also, I don't know about you guys, but despite how well it runs, don't you feel S4 Krait is getting outdated? There are 2 or 3 games that are no longer compatible with my SP.
xperia sp 2
The xperia sp should have a intel atom z3780 processor at 1.86 ghz/ tegra 4 with 4.7inch screen, kitkat or android l, illuminationbar, aluminum design with removable battery 8 megapixel camera and 1.6 mpx front camera with 16gb of storage or 8gb with ability to move apps to sd card and sd card should be up to 128gb.
xperia sp successor should have
4.8 inch 1080p screen or 720p
tegra 4 processor or Intel atom z3780 or s600 processor
illuminationbar
kitkat or android l at launch
16gb internal 64gb exteral
1.5gb ram
removable battery
frontfacing speakers
8mpx camera 1.2 front camera
2500mah battery
I think that it should be Xperia R4. It might have:
-5" 1080p IPS Screen (same as ZL2) with glove mode and 2t2w
-64bit Snapdragon 615
-Adreno 320 OC
-2GB RAM
-16GB ROM with SD card slot
-IP68
-Front-facing stereo speakers
-8Mpx 16:9 camera and 2,2Mpx 16:9 front camera
-Illumination bar
-2800mAh battery
-137 x 70 x 7,8 mm
-Aluminum Frame
It should looks like smaller Z3 with illumination bar.
It should have...
Well about 5" screen
2gb ram
16gb internal
13mp back and 2mp front camera
Most importantly REMOVABLE BATTERY ??

This would be perfect, i hope Sony launch a phone with illumination bar in a near future
good specs for the moment
- best possible battery +2600mAh
- 16GB internal memory
- 2 or 3 GB RAM
- 5" amoled screen (my girlfriend his it on her samsung galaxy s3 neo, lovely!)
- sd card extension slot !!
and certainly the Ilumination bar !!
i'm always looking for a new phone with such a Ilumination bar, so handy and beautifull !!!
ooh i would defenitly buy such a successor !!
For me:
4.4" 4K Screen(500ppi) with gorilla glass 3
New perfectly working illumination bar made of crystals!
3000mAh battery
2 or 2.5 GB RAM
Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit (8 cores per 2.4 GhZ)
Nvidia Tegra K1 or better
20.7 MPIX camera with BionZ and Cyber-Shot
USB 3.0
Android 5.0 Lollipop with Material Desing(orginal android)
Special X-Pen with special place for it in the phone (like SGN2,SGN3)
Front 8 MPIX camera
2 speakers like Xperia Z3
Slim bezels!
I would love it to keep the 4.6 inch screen because I find anything bigger to be too big. The design would be updated and it would keep the illumination bar plus the aluminium frame would be proper aluminium (as opposed to the current mixture it is). As for the specs it should remain mostly the same, only difference is that it should have an newer quad core chip at ~1.6GHz. And of course it must have better software support.
I would love to see Sony to release a newer version of Xperia SP under their sub brand or with collaboration with their sub brand "Fashion Entertainments" releasing an out of the box design and maintaining their tagline"The design connoisseur’s smartphone".
What is Fashion Entertainments ?

You don't know anything about CPUs and GPUs in a mobile device do you?
I would like to see the ZSP stay the same physical dimension, just have minimal bezels for that bit bigger 1080p screen and Sony 20mp camera.
The other must have would be illumination bars top and bottom and a circular one on the back around the camera lens. I want people to see me talking from space.
The speaker is good enough, when I'm playing music I pair it with one of my bluetooth speakers.
Also a case with a special rotating keyboard that snaps into place like a switchblade click.
I don't really care about the having the latest specs, I want a phone with flair that takes great pictures and has a long battery life.
I wouldn't even mind if it keeps the 720p screen, I'm not ripping blurays or anything for it.
According to me Xperia SP2 should have:
4.8 or 5 inch display
Screen resolution should be 1080p
Quad core Snapdragon 800 paired with Adreno 330 (definitely not the 801 or 805 as these would be considered highend chips and 810 is outta the league)
2 gigs of ram
2800mah battery
13mp rear cam and 2mp front facer
Android Lollipop 5.0
And yes ofcourse our beloved LED strip
If this is what sony makes then m sold to it
